Dem Chief Blocks Pro-Iran Deal Resolution at DNC

Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D – FL) blocked a resolution at the DNC summer meeting this weekend, which would’ve commended President Obama for helping to reach the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran.

Details are scant on what happened, but officials suggested Wasserman Schultz brought up procedural issues to prevent the matter from coming to a vote. The vast majority of members instead signed an open letter praising the deal, which was quickly circulated after the vote didn’t happen.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Major congratulations, Ms. Wasserman Schultz, for proving, yet again, to your "alleged constituents", that you do not represent concerns for their well being and future, but represent the geopolitical values of Tel Aviv in the matter of the P5+1 deal.

There are times when the the interests of the US and Israel do align; this is not one of those times, and you have done a massive disservice to this country by not giving President Obama credit on this deal.

There are many issues from this administration upon which I have been very critically vocal; the P5+1 deal is not one of them.

And one final note, Ms. Wasserman Schultz; Americans are becoming rather disenchanted with a foreign leader (Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu) attempting to control American foreign policy, and resent it mightily.

His in-your-face hubris on the issue of the Iran nuclear deal, to the point of calling out US senators in glossy US TV ads we have been seeing on Faux News, to order them to vote "Israel's way" on this may well consign him to the dustbin of history, in the next Israeli elections.

These 10 disgraced Iraq War architects are desperately trying to undo Obama’s Iran deal

There is a fierce battle going on in Washington, with progressive and pro-diplomacy organizations facing off against pro-Israel organizations to prevent a veto-proof vote to kill President Obama’s deal with Iran.

These anti-deal organizations are joined by a number of hawkish figures whose last great foreign policy foray was America’s last diplomatic catastrophe: the Iraq war. Here are 10 Iraq war supporters now trying to kill our best chance for a just peace with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF there were true justice in this country, all of these people would be cooling their heels in prison, facing charges of crimes against humanity for the Iraq war.

But because Obama swallowed the koolaid before his inauguration, and assured the American people that this country would be "looking forward and not backward", meaning these charges would never be addressed, they still walk among us, completely unrepentant for the horrors the invasion and occupation of Iraq inflicted upon that country, for absolutely no justifiable reason whatsoever.

Barak’s Tales of Israel’s Near War With Iran Conceal the Real Story

New evidence has now surfaced from former Israeli defense minister Ehud Barak that Israel came close to attacking Iran three times over the past few years – if you believe what major news media reported about the story.

But you shouldn’t believe it. The latest story is only a continuation of the clever ploy that has been carried out by Israeli administrations from Ehud Olmert to Benjamin Netanyahu to convince the world that it was seriously contemplating war against Iran in order to pressure them toward crippling sanctions against Iran, if not military confrontation with it.

Russia interested in Iran’s Drone Technology

On Wednesday, Manouchehr Manteqi, head of Iranian Aviation Industries Organization, while visiting Russian Aviation Exhibition MAKS 2015 near Moscow, said: “Islamic Republic is known as an advanced country in the field of building unmanned air-born vehicles (UAV). Russian counterparts showed their interests in the transfer of Iranian drone technology.”

In October 2013, Brig-General Farzad Esmayeeli, Commander of Iran’s Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base, presented an Iranian-made model of American ScanEagle, to Lt. General Viktor Bondarev, Russian Air Force Commander.

In November 2014, Iran carried out test run of the American version of the RQ-170 drone with the capability of bombing and reconnaissance missions. One of the RQ-170, America’s top unmanned surveillance aircraft, was brought-down by Iranian military engineers by jamming its control while taking-off from US military base in Afghanistan in December 2011.

‘A better relationship with Iran’ is the deal’s secret promise, but supporters can’t say so

President Obama is still out front of his supporters on message. Three days ago he called his opponents on the Iran Deal “the crazies.” Will someone please give the president some support on this idea? No; political insiders are all afraid of the neoconservatives and the Israel lobby. So Obama is spending all his own political capital in what time he has left.

Though Chris Matthews also went after the crazies last night without calling them that. I’ve never seen him so emphatic in support of the Iran Deal. He pronounced Netanyahu like an epithet.

Israeli Minister Agrees Ahmadinejad Never Said Israel ‘Must Be Wiped Off the Map’

In a reminder that Persian rhetoric is not always easy for English-speakers to interpret, a senior Israeli official has acknowledged that Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, never actually said that Israel “must be wiped off the map.”

Those words were attributed to Mr. Ahmadinejad in 2005, in English translations of his speech to a “World Without Zionism” conference that October. As my colleague Ethan Bronner reported the next year, one problem was translating a metaphorical turn of phrase in Persian that has no exact English equivalent — there was, for instance, no mention of a map — and there was a heated debate about whether the original statement was a threat or a prediction.

FLASHBACK - Dehumanization of a country and its people -Target: Iran

Dehumanization is a process by which a person, or a group of people, or a country as a whole is subjected to constant (but subtle and overt) statements of asserted demonization, for instance being called 'evil' or being compared to a historic figure (like Hitler) which most people despise.

Dehumanization may be directed by an organization (such as a state) or may be the composite of individual sentiments and actions, as with some types of de facto racism. State-organized dehumanization has been directed against perceived racial or ethnic groups, nationalities (or "foreigners" in general), religious groups, genders (against women and men), minorities of various sexual orientations (e.g. homosexuals), disabled people as a class, economic ( for instance, the homeless), and social classes, and many other groups.

Again and again I see references made regarding Iran that resembles that of Hitler's Germany and Stalin's Soviet Union.

Netanyahu Sidelined As UK Re-Opens British Embassy in Teheran

Binyamin Netanyahu has been left sidelined as UK re-opens its embassy in Teheran in anticipation of renewed diplomatic and commercial ties between these two major world economies and as European firms race for Iranian oil projects worth up to $185 billion.

In the meantime, however, the Israeli government, with zero oil and dependent on imports, has instructed AIPAC, its foreign affairs agency in Washington, to make every effort – including the spending of $20 million – to try to persuade members of the American House of Representatives to overturn the agreed deal between the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany, with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, regarding a US-led war to "neutralize" Iran for you: thank you, sir, but ABSOLUTELY NOT.

The American people are war-weary, and war-skeptical, to say nothing of having had to shoulder the enormous financial burdens on this country which have been undertaken to fund those debacles which are, and were, Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq, Libya, and Somalia.

IF Israel feels that Iran MUST be neutralized, American citizens strongly suggest that Israel, which has one of the finest, most modern militaries on the planet (paid for with American tax dollars and nuclear armed) can do the job perfectly well. If Tel Aviv believes that Iran should be attacked, it should be Israelis who fight, die, and are maimed for life; not American military.

We'll just sit back and eat popcorn while you and Iran fight, and see just what Vlad Putin will do at that point; it ought to be a very interesting response, sir, because Russian civilian and military personnel have stated, unequivocally, that if Iran is attacked, Russia will come to its aid militarily.

And were I you, sir, I would not bet against that.

The Iran agreement and Israel’s claim to speak for the Jews

Be it in Europe or the Arab world, the myth is growing and shaping people’s thinking. As a consequence, to the extent that a person is hostile to Israel’s policies and practices they run the risk of becoming hostile to “Jews”, which opens the way to stark anti-Semitism. This process can only aid and abet the ambitions of the Zionists. So let us strive for clear thinking on this matter and popularise the fact that Jews are quite diverse in their views and a growing number of them are not supporters of Israel or its practices. In this way we can undercut the myth that falsely connects them to Israel.

Netanyahu was on verge of Attacking Iran 3 Times (Why Listening to him on Iran Diplomacy is Daft)

In a radio interview, former Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak revealed that the government of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was on the verge of attacking Iran on 3 separate occasions in 2010-2012, but was consistently blocked by other (even far right wing) cabinet ministers or by the military chief of staff.

Although Netanyahu consistently depicts Iran as a military aggressor, that country hasn’t attacked another in a conventional war in modern history, whereas Israel has repeatedly launched wars of aggression, including 1956, 1967, 1982, 2009 and 2014.

Despite Deal, US Officials Still Talk Up Attacking Iran

Through years of diplomatic efforts, US officials have threatened to attack Iran on a regular basis. Exactly how often they should threaten Iran has often been a matter of contention, but there appeared to be bipartisan agreement that threatening Iran made some sort of sense.

Since all the threats at the time were based nominally on disputes over Iran’s nuclear program, one would think the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran, of which the US is a party and which the administration is championing, would stop the loose talk of war. That’s not the case, however.

If anything, in the weeks since the deal was reached, US officials have threatened Iran even more often, with the latest being a USA Today article quoting two “senior” military officials, described as being involved in the planning of attacks against Iran, describing the “comprehensive attack” on the nation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

In 2012, Barak said, the timing did not work because of a joint American-Israel military exercise and the visit of the American secretary of defence to Israel.

“Israeli military responded by launching airstrikes and artillery attacks against 14 targets in the Syrian Golan Heights. Israel said the rocket attack was launched by a group calling itself Islamic Jihad, which it said was an Iranian proxy force commanded by Saed Izadi, an Iranian. “For us this is a clear act of aggression and was meant by the Iranians to use the chaos inside Syria to escalate tensions in the region,” an Israeli security source said.”

Israel Bombs Syria. Is This A Prelude towards a Full Scale War?

Israel said the IDF “targeted 14 Syrian military posts in the Syrian Golan Heights” – without further explanation. Israeli media reported artillery batteries, army outposts and communications antennae struck.

The attack was perhaps the largest one since the 1967 Six Day War. Is it a possible prelude to US/Israeli/Turkish full-scale war on Assad? Things have been heading toward it for many months.

Israel has multiple objectives – eliminating Syria as a rival regional state, balkanizing the country for easier control, blocking the Iran nuclear deal, blaming nonexistent Tehran-orchestrated rocket fire on northern Israel to influence Congress, and ultimately replace Islamic State sovereignty with pro-Western governance.

Hawkish Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon claimed Thursday’s incident was a “coming attraction” of more to come – from “a richer and more murderous Iran” aided by sanctions relief.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think that one of the things both Israel and the US government need to consider, if they are looking at a larger attack to oust Assad, is the following question; what will Russia do, in response to such an action?!?

Putin's response will most probably be asymmetric, but nonetheless effective.

What the Latest Currency ‘War’ is All About

When the US embarks on perennial quantitative easing, that’s OK. When the EU does QE as well, that’s OK. But when the Bank of China decides it’s in the best interest of the nation to let the yuan go down a bit instead of infinitely up, that’s Armageddon.

An internationalized yuan established as a global reserve currency implies a "market-determined" exchange rate policy.

It took the Bank of China to devaluate the yuan on two consecutive days — moving within the 2 percent band that it’s allowed to — for the proverbial global financial banshees to go completely bonkers.

Forget the hysteria. The heart of the matter is that Beijing has stepped on the gas in a quite complex long game; to liberalize the yuan exchange rate; allow it to free float against the US dollar; and establish the yuan as a global reserve currency.

The Social Costs of Capitalism

The public subsidies provided to miners, loggers, and ranchers are as extravagant and as harmful to the public interest as the subsidies that the Federal Reserve and Treasury provide to the "banks too big to fail."

Few, if any, corporations absorb the full cost of their operations. Corporations shove many of their costs onto the environment, the public sector, and distant third parties.

Economists call these costs “external costs” or “social costs.” The mine made its profits by creating pollutants, the cost of which is borne by those who had no share in the profits.

British petition calls for Netanyahu to be arrested for war crimes

The petition, filed on the U.K. parliament petition website, was apparently inspired by an upcoming visit to London by Netanyahu for meetings with the government.

Given the large scale of support and attention, the U.K. government may be forced to publicly respond in the near future.

DM: Iran Needs No Unconventional Weapons

"Today, we are facing transforming threats and our experts should identify these threats and equip themselves proportionate to these threats," Dehqan said, addressing a meeting at the defense ministry in Tehran on Monday.

Voicing the defense ministry's opposition to aggressive views, he said, "Our view is based on defense and deterrence in a way that the enemies don’t dare to act or if they act, we will make them regret their deeds and desist from repeating or continuing their actions."

"We consider one principle in all our plans which is people-reliant defense and therefore, we don’t need unconventional and atomic weapons while Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) has also issued a fatwa (religious decree) against such weapons," Dehqan said.

General Dehqan had also warned on Saturday that threats against Iran were changing, but the country's armed forces enjoy the needed power and readiness to deter and defuse such threats.

How Congress could kill the Iran deal, and why it probably won't

Republicans in Congress will get a chance to kill President Obama's new nuclear deal with Iran. But they'd have to win over a sizable chunk of Democrats to do it.

The deal doesn't need to be affirmatively approved by Congress. But a law passed earlier this year allows Congress to vote to disapprove it and therefore block the relief of sanctions on Iran that's crucial to it.

However, this resolution of disapproval would need to be passed by both the House and Senate over President Obama's veto.

‘Deal or war’: Is doomed dollar really behind Obama’s Iran warning?

This is not just about Iran. It is about other major world economies moving away from holding the US dollar as a means of doing business.

In his drastic prediction of war, one might assume that Obama is referring to Israel launching a preemptive military strike on Iran with the backing of US Republicans. Or that he is insinuating that Iran will walk from self-imposed restraints on its nuclear program to build a bomb, thus triggering a war.

But what could really be behind Obama’s dire warning of “deal or war” is another scenario – the collapse of the US dollar, and with that the implosion of the US economy.

That scenario was hinted at this week by US Secretary of State John Kerry. Speaking in New York on August 11, Kerry made the candid admission that failure to seal the nuclear deal could result in the US dollar losing its status as the top international reserve currency.

When someone suggests that perhaps United States aid to Israel, greater than that given to all other countries combined, could fantinapossibly go to better use serving the taxpayers whose pockets it is being extracted from, Israel interprets such ideas as anti-Semitic, clear evidence that another Holocaust is around the corner, and needing the support of the U.S. Congress to quash such destructive thoughts. If one mentions the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, suffering caused by the illegal Israeli blockade, Israeli spokespeople accuse the speaker of denying Israel its right to defend itself. If one is not to risk being accused of hating Jews or even hating oneself if one is Jewish, one must by this perforation and shredding of logic, by this muddling of distinct ideas, support Israel and all of its genocidal and expansionist policies in all important respects. Congressional Democrats visiting Israel get earful about 'bad' Iran deal

Leaders of the pro-Israel lobby group The American Israel Public Affairs Committee could go home from Jerusalem to Washington this week with a deep sense of satisfaction that the visit they had arranged for a delegation of congressional Democrats was worth every cent. They noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the Likud, opposition leaders Isaac Herzog and former prime ministerial candidate Tzipi Livni, both from the Zionist Camp, all told the Americans in no uncertain terms that this is a bad agreement. In particular, by lifting the ban on precious metal trade with the organs of the Iranian government, on trade in petrochemical products, transport of Iranian oil and related insurance conditions, reported dpa.
The Swiss authorities have reserved the right to renew the sanctions, if Tehran does not comply with the agreement on the national nuclear program. While Bern has kept most of the restrictive measures against Iran. The EU and the US took a more cautious stance: they are ready to lift economic sanctions only if Iran will fulfill all the obligations of the agreements.

Iran Deal: Will Israel and Republican America Force the US to Back Out?

While not exactly the same, the framework of this agreement is fairly similar to the recent (July 2015) deal that the P5+1 agreed with Iran (the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPA). In essence both agreements placed a restriction on nuclear activity in return for relief from trade sanctions. However while the DPRK accepted and adhered to their side of the agreement, the US never successfully completed any of the promises that were made, failing to construct a single LWR (construction did not begin until August of 2002 and was halted indefinitely by late-2002, even though the scheduled completion date was 2003), failing to deliver fuel as promised and failing to ease any of the trade sanctions that had been in place since the Korean War.

Analysis: Satellite imagery undermines claims that Iran is 'sanitising' Parchin facility

The US intelligence community has leaked fresh claims that Iran is attempting to 'sanitise' its Parchin weapons production facility ahead of inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). However, satellite imagery published by a US think tank shows there has been no work at the building that it previously identified as the alleged location of an explosives containment chamber used to conduct tests related to nuclear weapons.

The IAEA published a report in November 2011 that cited intelligence submitted by an unidentified member state as saying that Iran "constructed a large explosives containment vessel in which to conduct hydrodynamic experiments" there in 2000.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iran has become a world leader in the creation of synthetic industrial diamonds, and the "hydrodynamic experiments" were reported to be part of that process, something Iran would want to keep out of the hands of potential competitors for purely commercial reasons.

Schumer: If US quits deal, US sanctions will still put 'meaningful pressure' on Tehran

The lone Democratic senator to publicly oppose President Barack Obama's nuclear agreement with Iran said Tuesday that even if the U.S. backs away and other countries lift their sanctions, Iran still will feel "meaningful pressure" from the U.S. penalties.

The deal between would curb Iran's nuclear program in exchange for billions of dollars in relief from crippling sanctions.

New York Sen. Chuck Schumer's view sharply contrasts with European leaders who have told U.S. lawmakers that if Congress were to reject the deal, the international sanctions would unravel, undermining global pressure on Iran.

Schumer also said that sanctions aimed at companies that do business with Iran could force U.S. allies and trade partners back to the negotiating table.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A memo to Senator Schumer; in opposing this deal, you have made it painfully obvious to your "alleged" constituents that your are an unregistered representative of a foreign country.

That country is Israel, and you are only here to do Netanyahu's bidding in this issue, treating your constituents with absolute, utter contempt.

I am a vocal critic of many of President Obama's policy decisions, but this is not one of them.

The deal will neutralize Iran's capabilities to build a nuclear bomb. Many scientists and American military have come out in favor of this deal.

But you oppose it because your real allegiance is to Tel Aviv, NOT TO THE AMERICAN PEOPLE, and Tel Aviv is doing, and will do, anything possible to derail the deal.

No man can serve two masters, Senator; and you have demonstrated, clearly, with whom your allegiance lies, and that is neither to this government, nor to the people your allegedly represent, nor the rest of We the People.

The Centerpiece of US Foreign Policy Struggle

The basic question for all Americans is whether we will act as an independent, sovereign country pursuing peace through diplomacy, as we currently see unfolding with Iran and Cuba, or a submissive military instrument, directed by Israel’s proxies hell-bent on destroying America for Israel.

While many US intellectuals, liberals, progressives and leftists support the US-Iran agreement (see the Scientists’ Letter to Obama on Iran Nuclear Deal, Aug. 8, 2015 with 29 top scholars and Nobel laureates support diplomacy), few would dare to identify and attack Israel’s US proxies as they promote Tel Aviv’s agenda pushing the US to war with Iran. A brief glance through the sectarian left press, for example, The Socialist Register, New Politics, New Left Review, finds no discussion of the powerful, well-financed, highly organized, elite-driven Israeli proxies and their role in determining US wars in the Middle East, and more specifically the war agenda toward Iran.

Obama Isolates Netanyahu as Head of Warmongers

The most worrisome part of Obama’s address was his reference to the Israeli government’s opposition to the nuclear agreement. What he said is liable to be seen in the not-so-distant future as a real turning point in the strategic relations between Jerusalem and Washington.
Obama marked Netanyahu not as a major ally, but as his greatest political rival. While he noted that he understands Netanyahu’s concerns and believes his intentions are sincere, this expression of empathy was merely an introduction to a sharp attack on the prime minister. At times you could hear Obama’s disdain for Netanyahu, as when he unconsciously imitated the latter’s baritone from his speeches against the nuclear agreement. “It’s a bad deal, we need a better deal,” he said, as he deepened his voice.

Obama: Arab neighbors spend eight times more on military than Iran

US President Barack Obama says Iran’s Arab neighbors spend at least eight times more on their military, but they are not as “strategically effective” as the Islamic Republic, which uses military funds for defense.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why is Obama trying to make it look like Iran is a huge threat despite low military spending? He is not making much sense while he tries. However, if that is true, then maybe we need some Iranian leadership in the Pentagon to get the bloated US defense budget under control!

Netanyahu and His Marionettes

Benjamin Netanyahu is laying siege to the Congress of the United States, not for the first time. He has thrown his voice and channeled his influence into the arena of American legislative politics, to abort the P5+1 nuclear settlement with Iran, which was signed on July 14 by the US, Britain, France, Germany, China, and Russia. The Israeli strong man's latest intervention is in keeping with the rest of his political career. Netanyahu owes all his importance and his success to actions that have been purely destructive.

Webmaster's Commentary:

All Netanyahu can do is keep the US out of the Iran deal. The other nations are already moving ahead making deals with Tehran for oil and export markets. Israel's meddling will harm US companies, and not Iran. Netanyahu needs another 9-11 to get war with Iran going.

US Should Bring Israel Down a Peg – Buchanan

Netanyahu is not giving up on his goal to sabotage the deal even though undermining Israel's close ties with the US could be a far greater threat than anything the nuclear agreement could bring along.

For a state that is often seen as an outsider at international forums, consistent backing from the US is essential… And $3 billion a year in military aid doesn't hurt either. Despite all that, Netanyahu keeps seeking ways to mobilize Congress against the White House to destroy the ultimate achievement in Obama's career, and it's not as if his manipulations are in vain thus far.

Webmaster's Commentary:

At this point Netanyahu appears to be totally wrapped up in his ego. He is going to wreck the Iran deal because HE wants it, and it doesn't matter what damage he causes to the images of the US and Israeli governments in the process.

Noam Chomsky: "What exactly is the threat of Iran?"

Webmaster's Commentary:

The real threat of Iran...

1. They refuse private central banking.

2. They sell their oil for currencies other than the US dollar.

3. Iran refuses to live under US puppet rule.

Greece – A Dramatic Appeal by Mikis Theodorakis

MikisTheodorakis, the Greek world famous music composer and Resistance figure, called upon the Greek people – and the peoples of the world – to respect Democracy – the very Democracy, born in Greece some 2500 years ago and given to the world as a set of values for respect for each other, for humanity – for equal rights and for free expression.

He referred in particular to the Greek referendum in which the Greek people on 5 July 2015 voted with an overwhelming 61% against the continuation of the economic and financial strangulation of Greece by the infamous troika – the European Central Bank (ECB), the European Commission (EC) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

A Cold Summer for Europe

In the whole modern history of Europe, there was not such a shameful surrender, or even treason. ‘Alexis Tsipras’ is a Greek translation of ‘Vidkun Quisling’ or of ‘Maréchal Pétain’.

After the Syriza debacle of Greece, there is a very little trust for left-wing rhetoric. In the whole modern history of Europe, there was not such a shameful surrender, or even treason. ‘Alexis Tsipras’ is a Greek translation of ‘Vidkun Quisling’ or of ‘Maréchal Pétain’. The man received the full support of his people, and chickened out. (The first step of Syriza after the fiasco was to enter into military cooperation with Israel.) Now only the far-right Golden Dawn speaks loudly against surrender to the bankers, but this is a party in opposition, and it risks nothing by speaking out.

Obama ushers in the crisis of the Israel lobby

In his new book on the US and Israel, former Israeli ambassador Michael Oren says that all the young Ivy Leaguers who went to work for President Obama had read The Israel Lobby, by Stephen Walt and John Mearsheimer, and that it was their playbook for understanding the Middle East. (Along with Edward Said’s Orientalism).
