Jeb Bush, James Baker, and the Pro-Israel Mega-Donors

What is the issue, that gets little attention in the mainstream, is that the presidential candidates find it necessary to pay obeisance to ultra-powerful individuals who represent the interests of Israel, not the United States.

What exists now is a “passionate attachment” to a foreign country on steroids that undercuts American security.

For while the mainstream media is analyzing in microscopic detail Jeb’s stumbling over his Iraq war response, it naturally ignores that third rail in contemporary American politics, the power of the Israel lobby.

Iran’s top leaders to take part in SCO summit in Russia — ambassador

Iran’s top leaders will take part in a Shanghai Cooperation Organization’s (SCO) summit in Ufa on July 9-10, Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Mehdi Sanaei said on Friday.
"Iran will take part at a top level," he said. "However, it is not yet known who will take part."
Russia’s and Iran’s leaders, according to the Iranian diplomat, "have very good communication." They have had a number of meetings and telephone conversations, he noted.
"Relations between our regions have been given a serious impetus in the recent years," Sanaei said. "In 2014, eight Russian governors visited Iran, our governors visited Russia. The program for 2015 includes a visit by top officials of Russia’s Chelyabinsk region, the cities of St. Petersburg and Yekaterinburg. In general, relations between our countries are expanding," he said.

OBAMA’S STRATEGIC SHIFT

President Obama has belatedly detected the looming catastrophe in Syria and Iraq as Sunni terrorists gain ground. He also grasps the need for Russian and Iranian help. But his administration remains infested with neocons and liberal war hawks who could sabotage the needed deals, reports Robert Parry.

t’s finally dawning on President Barack Obama the grave dangers that have been created for the American Republic by decades of neoconservative dominance of U.S. foreign policy, but his moves in response to this dire threat remain hesitant and indecisive.

The only game-saving play open to Obama now – in response to recent Saudi-backed escalation of Sunni extremism in Syria and Iraq as well the new right-wing racist government in Israel – may be to forge an alliance with Iran and Russia as a counterforce in the Middle East that could save Syria’s relatively secular regime and reverse gains by the Islamic State inside Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I would like to believe that the above is possible. But unfortunately, this President is way too hubristic and narcissistic to make the necessary changes to bring about a possible lasting peace.

I frankly think Obama is trying, by deploying ISIS, to get Americans to go along with a 3rd invasion of Iraq; an overthrow of Al-Assad in Damascus; and a re-invasion of Libya.

A short memo, based on a statement of the character Tony Soprano, to President Obama: FURGETTABOUTIT!!! There will be no support for US troops on the ground, and the equipment you are sending to Iraq is absolutely no good without skilled operators to make them do what they are supposed to do.

How the Uncertain Outcome of Nuclear Talks With Iran Has Taken Its Economy Hostage

I recently returned from a six-week trip to Iran. While the primary purpose of my trip was to visit family and friends, I also made some general enquiries into the state of the country’s stagnant economy. These included informal discussions with various strata of economic agents or market players: manufacturers, bankers, shopkeepers, miners, farmers, livestock breeders, workers, teachers, and more.

US, Israel duplicity over the Iran nuclear deal

As the US intensifies its efforts to conclude a nuclear deal with Iran, it is also seeking to appease Israel by promising further military assistance to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government in return for a retreat from the vociferous opposition to the framework.

According to the Times of Israel, Israel and the US are holding preliminary discussions for a "compensation package" that would include an increase in the number of F-35 fighter jets supplied by the US to Israel, as well as additional batteries for the Iron Dome, assistance for the Arrow 3 missile system and the purchasing of technology for intelligence gathering.

Last Sunday, Netanyahu declared: "It is both necessary and possible to achieve a better deal because extremists cannot be allowed to achieve their aims, not in Iran, not in Yemen and not in Jerusalem."

Hope – versus Neoliberalism – an Ode to Solidarity

The new apparent Hope – is it what my friend Finian Cunningham says – the first ‘eye blinking’ by Washington facing Russia?

We are so thirsty for hope, hope for another, more just, more equitable world, we see hope in the first ‘blinking of an eye’. Hope is good. Hope is the basis for action. And action must be the consequence of hope – hope that not all is lost. Action to break that impasse of neoliberal all-engulfing greed must be simple. We have become strangers to ourselves. We must return to our roots, recognizing where and why we failed to diagnose the beast. Our awakened, re-kindled sense of consciousness may lead us to what we have lost – our inherent sense of solidarity.

Let’s hope together for that to happen – to happen soon, for the suffering is too great to endure much longer. We, the 99.99 % have it in our power to stop this misery and save our planet.

The truth must be told from the outset: I hope Israel is suspended from FIFA.

Now its turn has come.

Song for Yemen (Lyrics)

What’s it coming to?
What’s it coming to?
When they’re killing children every day
And the whole world looks away

What’s it coming to?
What’s it coming to?
When kings and presidents say they’re right
To bomb the poor day and night

And the whole damn world just stays quiet
And the whole damn world bows to might is right

What’s it coming to?
What’s it coming to?
When they’re killing children every day
And the whole world looks away

And the whole world looks away
And the whole world looks away

US Threatens ‘Military Option’ as Iran Aid Ship Nears Yemen

Though Iran’s Shahed cargo ship was much to slow to actually get its cargo of humanitarian aid to the Yemeni port of Hodeida during the five-day ceasefire, the ship is still heading in that general direction, riling the Pentagon.

US officials are now openly talking about the possibility of “military options” against the ship, and expressing surprise and alarm that the cargo ship has a naval escort.

This is in spite of Iran being very open, when the ship departed last week, about the fact that it was going to have a naval escort. Since the ship left in the wake of Saudi Arabia destroying the Sanaa airport to prevent aid delivery by cargo plane, it’s unsurprising they didn’t want to leave the aid ship vulnerable. Two Iranian warships are escorting it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to President Obama: please do NOT go "Netanyahu" on this aid convoy. And do NOT for one second, allow the Saudis to think we support a military intervention on their part.

It is a short step from seizing this ship to a full-on, military confrontation with Russia. Interdiction here is neither warranted nor strategically useful.

Double plus ungood, Mr. President: double plus ungood.

Losing the American Republic

Decades of letting neocons dictate a hawkish foreign policy have put the American Republic in profound danger, just as presidents from George Washington to Dwight Eisenhower predicted, warnings that Americans must finally take to heart...

We may lament our poverty of leadership, but there are ways to make it function. “Princes,” since long before Machiavelli have always used advisers; some even listened to them. Surely the capable people among us — like the “wise men” who whispered in the ears of those earlier leaders — can guide today’s leaders toward more viable policies and away from the chaos that engulfs us.

Report: Saudi Arabia in talks to purchase Pakistani nuclear weapons

Saudi Arabia has reportedly held talks with Pakistan for the purchase of nuclear weapons amid the ongoing nuclear negotiations between world powers and Iran, according to a US senior official who spoke with The Sunday Times.

BEX ALERT - It’s time to give Israel the means to take out Iranian nukes

The negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program have engendered furious debate in Washington and in capitals across the world. But there are steps outside of the nuclear talks that President Obama can take to help ensure that the United States and its allies are stronger and more secure the day after a deal than they were the day before. One such step would be to provide Israel with GBU-57 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs (known as the Massive Ordnance Penetrators, or MOPs) and the means to carry them, in a quantity sufficient to destroy Iran’s most deeply buried nuclear sites.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There is no guarantee that Israel will not go ahead and use those weapons against Iran's civilian infrastructure, even in the absence of actual nuclear weapons. Iran has not initiated a war of conquest against another country in over 200 years. These days Israel cannot seem to go 3 months without attacking someone else. Neither can the US.

It should be remembered that Israel was at the forefront of claims that Iraq had nuclear weapons, and bombed Iraq's nuclear power plant at Osirak in 1981, then cheered the US on for the invasion of 2003. Today even the staunchest warhawk has had to admit that Iraq did not have nuclear weapons nor were they building any, and post-invasion inspections of the ruins at Osirak found nothing but a power station.

So now you want to give Israel the ability to repeat the Osirak mistake at Bushehr and shower yet another innocent civilian population with radioactivity?

US Blinks in Face-Off with Russia

After staring Russia in the face for the best part of a year, the poker-faced Americans finally realized they are holding a bunch of worthless cards. And the Americans blinked.

Last week started with US Secretary of State John Kerry coming to Russia to lay a wreath for the millions of Soviet soldiers who gave their lives in the historic defeat of Nazi Germany. Then the week ended with Kerry’s deputy at the State Department, Victoria Nuland, flying to Moscow to meet Russian officials to discuss implementation of the Minsk ceasefire in Ukraine.

That’s what you might call «America blinking first» in its high-stakes and reckless face-off with Russia over the Ukraine crisis.

Saudi Arabia to buy nuclear bombs from Pakistan: report

Iranians say Obama deceiving Americans and Arabs about nuclear inspections

While President Barack Obama on Thursday hosted a summit of Arab nations at the presidential retreat, it was considered by many to be an exercise in futility due to the highly visible absence of several leaders including those from the Saudi Arabian Kingdom. In the Middle East, the Obama word-fest was overshadowed by a steady stream of messages depicting the U.S. Commander in Chief as basically an empty-suit and someone lacking in strength. The gist of the Iranian message was that Obama is attempting to deceive his own people about a nuclear treaty that contains none of what is claimed by the White House.

Congress isn't interested in oversight regarding trade deals such as TPP and TTIP which are being put on fast track. Obama vows to 'stand by' Gulf allies amid concern over Iran threat

President Barack Obama vowed on Thursday to back Gulf allies against any "external attack," seeking to reassure them of Washington's iron-clad commitment to their security amid Arab anxiety over U.S.-led efforts to reach a nuclear deal with Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is starting to look like Obama settling down the confrontation over the P5+1 deal by agreeing to arm Iran's neighbors against Iran's imaginary nuclear weapons. It is a fraud, but publicly the Middle Eastern nations, Israel included, cannot refuse the offer without admitting that they know Iran's nukes were a fabrication!

I am going to have to take back some of the bad things I said about Obama. It does appear my prognostication about his being his own man in his second term might actually be happening! Obama has to know the US cannot complete the PNAC war plan, and appears to be seeking exit strategies with Russia and Iran, possibly even China.

If Wall Street can be made to accept a multi-currancy global economy, then the prime motive for WW3 evaporates! I don't want to be prematurely optimistic, and the economy is still in dire trouble, but I think we can back that Doomsday Clock down by a couple minutes!

Media obfuscation and the Khadr controversy

The story of Omar Khadr unveils the sickening depravity of the Western/Zionist/Neocon warmongers and their bought-and-paid-for presstitutes.

For just shy of a decade, the Americans tortured the Canadian-born Khadr in the Guantanamo Bay concentration camp before relinquishing him to Canada where he has been held in Canadian jails since 2012.

Upon his release on bail on May 7, Canadian neocons began screeching from the hilltops about the ‘travesty’ of temporarily freeing a ‘convicted terrorist.’ Meanwhile, the neo-liberal crypto-militarists who occupy Canada’s mainstream media engaged in stereotypical faux debates consisting of highly constrained babble about the ‘rights and wrongs’ of the treatment of Khadr by the Canadian and American governments.

The issue is never framed properly and is in fact intentionally obfuscated.

At this moment, Turkish forces are reportedly gathering at the nation’s southern border and Syria’s northern border in a fashion that can signify little except the posturing for military action.

While this article is in no way attempting to make predictions regarding possible military action, to provide dates, or even the hint that these possible attacks will definitively take place, the stage has clearly been set for some time for us to contemplate the possibility of such an attack.

Webmaster's Commentary:

My best guess on the timing of such an invasion is that it will be engineered to happen sooner rather than later, in order to "persuade" Iran to go for the current P5+1 agreement, in light of the fact that the current Syrian government will most likely have been dissolved by that point. As happened in Libyan, we may well see Al-Assad assassinated outright, or cooling his heels in jail, waiting for a kangaroo court to convict and sentence him.

But in either scenario, he will have been "neutralized" in terms of being able to help Iran militarily, should it not decide to go with the P%+1 deal (IF the US Congress doesn't outright scotch the deal themselves.)

V-DAY: Russia’s Perpetual Fight Against Fascism

70 years since the great Victory! 70 years since Soviet people saved the world by smashing Nazism.

All accords with Russia were broken, whenever it suited invaders. The Scandinavians wiped out countless Russian lives, and so did the Germans, French, Poles, Brits, North Americans and Czechs, to name just a few. Russians never really ‘punished’ anybody, in the Protestant, Anglo-Saxon way. Punishment is mainly puritan, Protestant rubbish; the Russian way of thinking is too quixotic for that.

The West lied to Lenin, to Stalin, to Khrushchev and finally to Gorbachev. The West has been lying to Putin and about Putin.

Who's Playing "Hide and Cheat"?

The estimable McClatchy News Service says President Obama "scored a decisive win" by negotiating an agreement that "will prevent Iran from ever obtaining a nuclear weapon" and termed it "a personal triumph for the President."

Not surprisingly, the painfully negotiated pact was denounced by Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu, who has repeatedly, (and illegally,) threatened Iran over its alleged desire to build an atomic bomb. But Obama's rebuff of Netanyahu's position was well deserved, given Israel's record of stealing American military secrets and spying on private American talks with its European allies.

IRGC: Military option against Iran a mockery

“The military option, which the Westerners are constantly talking about, is no more than a mockery, as they know that if the military option against the Islamic Republic of Iran could be effective, they would use it time and again,” Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari added on Thursday, Press TV reported.

Jafari was reacting to US Secretary of State John Kerry and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Martin Dempsey, who said recently that military option is still on the table in dealing with Iran.

The high-profile Iranian commander said the Western powers resorted to "soft war" against Iran because of the futility of military threats.

Senate votes overwhelmingly to pass Iran nuclear bill

The US Senate on Thursday advanced legislation that would allow Congress to review a nuclear deal between world powers and Iran, clearing a major hurdle after weeks of Republican infighting threatened the bill’s passage.

Senators overwhelmingly voted 98-1 in favor of the bill, with only Tom Cotton against its passage. Under the compromise, Congress would have 30 days to both review any nuclear accord with Iran and pass a resolution of disapproval. In the event that lawmakers passed such a resolution, Barack Obama would be unable to lift some of the congressional sanctions on Tehran.

Senate Sets Test Vote on Iran Sanctions Bill

As expected, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R – KY) has cut off debate on the compromise bill aimed at giving Congress the power to veto a P5+1 nuclear agreement with Iran.

Sen. McConnell’s move cuts off debate on further amendments to the bill, which have predominantly aimed to add more onerous restrictions to a nuclear deal that would almost certainly kill the talks outright.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Congress does not have any authority over the United Nations Security Council, which is the "P5" in "P5+1." Odd how a Congress totally uninterested in oversight when the White House wants to start a war suddenly demands they be heard when the White House wants to work towards peace! But I digress.

Congress, in inserting itself into a foreign policy issue, is in violation of the Logan Act. All they can do is order Obama not to agree to the P5+1 at which point the other nations will just move forward with their own agreement to end the sanctions, and the US will be the one who is economically isolated.

That’s the way (i) to control people, nations and their resources; (ii) to assure the west is in continuous need for military – troops and equipment – remember more than 50% of the US GDP depends on the military industrial complex, related industries and services; and (iii) finally, a country in disarray or chaos, is broke and needs money – money with hardship conditions, ‘austerity’ money from the notorious IMF, World Bank and other associated nefarious ‘development institutions’ and money lenders; money that equals enslavement, especially with corrupt leaders that do not care for their people.

As Israel Lobby Pushes Full-Access Inspections, US Makes False Claims on Iran Nuclear Deal

Senior US officials have been claiming that Iranian negotiators had agreed in Lausanne to accept a demand that Iran allow the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to inspect any site it considered suspicious anywhere in the country, including military bases. Such a provision would have given Israel license to make an endless series of bogus intelligence claims such as the ones that had been labeled "possible military dimensions" aimed at preventing the lifting of sanctions against Iran.

Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei repudiated the claims that Iran had agreed in Lausanne to such inspections on demand. He declared in a speech on April 9 that the IAEA would not be allowed to inspect the country's military sites "under the excuse of nuclear supervision." Khamenei's speech came the day after the Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan had made it clear that no international inspections of Iranian military sites would be allowed under the nuclear agreement.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel wants a war to be fought between the US and Iran, and their purchased representatives in the US Congress are leaving no stone unturned to insure that this will happen.

There is only one teensy, tiny problem, however, and is the 6,000 lb bear, draped over the Bluthner piano: that problem is Russia.

Russian officials, both political and military, have gone on record that they will come to Iran's aid militarily if it is attacked; perhaps, at first, with logistics and weapons.

If things look dicey for Iran, we may next see Russian troops aiding the Iranians.

Russia and Iran have already signed a military pact this year, and will be doing joint military exercises to increase their interoperational capabilities.

I would strongly caution President Obama not to let this scenario unfold; the US military doesn't have the troop strength; the manufacturing; or the money to insure a positive outcome to a conventional war against Russia.

And if China joins the fray on Iran's side, all bets are off.

France, Saudi Arabia: Iran nuclear deal must be verifiable, no threat to region

* Hollande first Western leader to address Gulf summit

* France aims to reassure leaders over Iran nuclear deal

* Saudi FM says historical ally, has common vision (Adds Hollande speech, Saudi FM, context)

France and Saudi Arabia believe that any future nuclear accord between Iran and six major powers must be robust, verifiable and no threat to Tehran's neighbours, the two countries said ahead of a summit in Riyadh on Tuesday.

Saudi Arabia invited French President Francois Hollande, whose country is deemed to have the toughest stance among the six world powers negotiating with Iran, to Riyadh to discuss regional issues with Gulf Arab leaders who fear a rapprochement with Tehran could further inflame the region.

"France and Saudi Arabia confirmed the necessity to reach a robust, lasting, verifiable, undisputed and binding deal with Iran," Hollande and the new Saudi King Salman said in a statement after meeting on Monday.

"This agreement must not destabilise the security and stability of the region nor threaten the security and stability of Iran's neighbours," the statement said.

Sens. Cotton, Rubio Fail in Push for Anti-Iran Amendments

Starting Thursday, Sens. Tom Cotton (R – AK) and Marco Rubio (R – FL) stalled the compromise Iran nuclear talks bill, trying to force votes on a series of amendments to the bill that would impose a series of new demands on Iran, none of which were nuclear-related.

Some of the amendments, including a demand that Iran publicly endorse Israel as a “Jewish state,” were opposed even by many hawks, who saw the language as so divisive it might imperil the bill outright.

The Senate’s Republican leadership has announced they are going to “wrap up” consideration of amendments to the bill on Monday, spurning further pushes by Cotton and Rubio, and will try to have a vote on the bill itself this week. The bill aims to give the US Congress the power to veto a deal between the P5+1 and Iran.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Good!

There are many logical, and deep, disagreements I have with this Administration, but the potential for the P5+1 agreement with Iran is not one of them.

The wild card in all of this, of course, is Israel, which may simply decide to cork off militarily against Iran, while the ink is barely dry on the agreement.

And Secretary of State Kerry is naive in the extreme when he makes the following remarks, as noted in antiwar.com, yesterday:

Speaking today on Israel’s Channel 10, Secretary of State John Kerry urged Israel to tone down its hysteria over the possible P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran, saying the US can guarantee to Israel that Iran will never acquire a nuclear weapon. At the same time, Kerry said he didn’t believe there was a serious risk of a “surprise” Israeli attack on Iran, saying he couldn’t imagine Israel would attack Iran without consulting the US government first.

Mr. Secretary, were I you, I would not bet against that possibility at all.

Planning Chaos in the Middle East: Destruction of Societies for Foreign Money Control

If one wonders how a desert-crawling line of Japanese open-back trucks gifted by the US filled with countless irregular fighters in plain view could ever have ever made it overnight to the point where Western military and political leaders are saying “the war against ISIL may be interminable”, one begins to see through the game. ISIL is a construction financed and trained by covert US and oil-king allies that ruins every place it enters, like Syria once the regime began to win the civil war. Al-Nusra/Al Qaeda was not enough. ISIL is a step up in the US-led control of the Middle East by terror, chaos and social devastation. “The Salvador option” was the first name for the post-war death squads in Iraq, but “Islamic State” stirs much more apocalyptic passions pro and con. Best of all, the ruling foreign war machines of the US, Israel, Saudi Arabia and NATO are now far better justified to “fight the barbaric terrorists”. Saudi Arabia with US support is now even projecting the “terrorist” and sectarian “Shiite” labels on the popular uprising of the poor in Yemen against a corrupt US-Saudi puppet government. One object alone is achieved. Peoples and resources of the region can be predated without sovereign social defences or unity of collective life purpose, the ultimate target of every US-led aggression. As long as all evils can be blamed on an ever-shifting Enemy, there is no overcoming recognition.

Suicide Mission: Why a War With Iran Will End in Another Defeat for the U.S. Military Machine

On Hardball with Chris Matthews, a U.S. mainstream media program interviewed President Barack Obama and was asked about Russia’s decision on lifting a ban on the sale of S-300 air-defense missile systems to Iran. According to the Jerusalem Post, Obama said “Our defense budget is somewhere just a little under $600 billion. Theirs is a little over $17 billion. Even if they’ve got some air defense systems, if we had to, we could penetrate them.” Obama declares that the U.S. military would penetrate Iran’s defenses while ignoring the fact that the Iranian forces would respond decisively to such an attack. Let’s talk about facts concerning Iran and how it would defend its territory from an invading force.

Sayed Ali Khamenei about police brutality against Blacks in the USA

Khamenei's comments are accurate and indeed not too far removed from the ones I have been making about the police brutality issue and its corrosive effect on society. For the public to trust the system, punishment must be seen to be inflicted on the guilty and only on the guilty. When the public sees punishment inflicted at random in the innocent while politically connected guilty go free, the public soon understands that the police are not about justice or law enforcement but merely a tool of oppression by the haves against the have-nots.

The apparent betrayal of German national interests by Chancellor Angela Merkel is not only evident over the recent industrial spying scandal on behalf of America, the slavish pursuit by Merkel of Washington’s anti-Russian policy over Ukraine — in contradistinction to her country’s national interests — also cogently suggests that the chancellor is serving a foreign master.

Iran Bill in Peril as Hawks Push Deal-Killing Amendments

The bill to give the US Congress “veto power” over the P5+1 nuclear deal with Iran was already a recipe for killing the negotiations. A flurry of amendments aimed at making the bill even more hostile toward diplomacy, however, is setting off a fight and threatens to derail the entire bill.

Senate hawks Tom Cotton (R – AK) and Marco Rubio (R – FL) are driving a series of efforts to force immediate votes on some of those most contentious amendments, including Rubio’s demand that Iran endorse Israel as a Jewish state, and Cotton’s demand that Iran agree to give inspectors unrestricted access to the entire country, and not just its nuclear program, as conditions for the deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

There have been many criticisms I have had about President Obama's policies , as well as those of his predecessor; having said that, the potential for a lasting P5+1 agreement on Iran is an area of agreement between us. It MAY well be the only area on which we agree during his 2nd term of office (BUT - I digress).

But I sincerely wish Tom Cotton and Marco Rubio would retire from their Senate legislative careers, and more to Israel to run for the Knesset.

The fabrication and construction of this bill was, if any legislation ever was, made in Israel, plain and simple.

The Israeli government doesn't want the US and the UN to enter into a peace treaty with Iran regarding its nuclear energy program: the Israeli government wants war, but not a war THEY are willing to have their kids fight. They would highly prefer it to be our kids, American kids, doing the fighting, getting maimed for life, and dying. That is what the Israeli government wants to have happen.

And with this legislation, Senators Cotton and Rubio are putting the needs and concerns of a foreign power over and above the needs and concerns of the Americans they ALLEGEDLY represent.

And to those in Cotton's and Rubio's Senatorial districts; next time, how about finding candidates who will put YOUR needs first, second, and third, and NOT THOSE OF A FOREIGN POWER? With AIPAC money supporting those candidates pledging unwavering fealty to Israel, no matter what the cost to THIS country, I know that will be hard; but it is high time that when American and Israeli geopolitical objectives do NOT converge, that the US government has the right, and the responsibility to "just say no", and go its own way.

Sabre-rattling much? For the first time in history, Chinese and Russian navies will begin a significant joint naval exercise in The Mediterranean Sea in mid-May. Against a background of this week's "upgraded Japan-American military relationship" following Abe's visit to Obama, as one analyst notes, "the geopolitical significance of its exercising alongside Russia will not be lost on the U.S. and NATO."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US dysfunctional foreign policy on both Iran and Russia has pushed Russia and China into an infinitely more cooperative spirit than ever before.

Sometimes, I look at the outcomes of US foreign and domestic policies and wonder: is a prerequisite for working for the US government the absolute, consistent, and nearly pathological inability to think a scenario through to its logical conclusion?!?!?

Because it sure as heck appears to be!!

Last week, the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Terrorism, Nonproliferation, and Trade announced that a controversial Iranian exile opposition figure would be testifying via video uplink at a hearing on the Islamic State, known as ISIS. What does the witness, Maryam Rajavi, a co-leader of the Mojahedin-e Khalq (MEK), have to say about the subject at hand?

Webmaster's Commentary:

MEK has a history of cooperation with Mossad. When Mossad cooked up the "Laptop of death", a since-discredited attempt to show that Iran was working on nuclear weapons, it was "data laundered" through MEK, which presented it to the west with the cover story that it had been stolen from an Iranian scientist.

US ready to take risk of war with Iran for Israeli regime's sake: Biden

As the White House tries to mend fences with the Zionist Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu who is upset about nuclear talks with Iran, Vice President Joe Biden says the US is ready to risk a military confrontation in support of the Israeli regime.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Okay, Joe, if you really feel that way about it... Here's your rifle. Here's your parachute. We ran out of the desert camo but here's a bright da-glo orange jumpsuit from the CIA's torture centers. Watch your head climbing into that transport aircraft, and we will call Tehran and tell them you are on your way to kick their butts all by yourself.

But We The People remember the lies about stolen incubators that tricked us into the first invasion of Iraq.

We The People remember the lies about Saddam's nuclear weapons that tricked us into the second invasion of Iraq.

We The People remember how only a year ago you tried to trick us into war with Syria with more lies about poison gas.

We The People remember how there weren't really torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin or a Spanish mine in Havana Harbor, but how there really WERE weapons on board the Lusitania.

In short, We The People remember all the lies, frauds, and deceptions used to trick us into wars of conquest, to send our young people out to die in wars created out of thin air by and for the money-junkies. I think it is time that we have a new rule in America; that those who want war are the first to the front lines. You are all splendidly brave with the lives of other peoples' children. Let's see the true measure of your courage and commitment to war.

You first!

And just to keep you honest, please recall that Iran has not initiated a war of conquest against another nation in over 200 years; a sharp contrast to the US and Israel, which these days cannot seem to go two months without invading, drone-striking, or overthrowing someone else's nation!

U.S. Navy escorting American ships in Strait of Hormuz amid Iran tension

A Senior Defense Department official confirms to CBS News that U.S. Naval forces have begun accompanying American-flagged maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

The move is in response to what Washington views as provocative Iranian behavior in the Persian Gulf. Earlier this week Iranian naval vessels reportedly fired warning shots near Maersk Tigris, a Marshall Islands-flagged cargo ship, and detained it and its crew. Iranian officials say the Maersk shipping line owes it money.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So all Israel needs to do is sneak one of their submarines into Iranian waters and fire a shot at one of the US ships (the way Israel attacked USS Liberty) and blame Iran for it (the way Israel initially blamed Egypt for the USS Liberty attack).

Inching Toward Conflict: US Navy To Escort Cargo Ships In Persian Gulf; Iran Refuses To Back Down

Moments ago there was yet another step up in the Persian Gulf naval escalation when CNN reported that the U.S. Navy will escort U.S.-flagged cargo ships through Strait of Hormuz in wake of Iran seizure this week, a US official says. Specifically, the Navy will henceforth accompany ships on concern that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard may seize them, CNN’s Jim Sciutto says in Twitter post, citing CNN’s Barbara Starr. It is unclear what happens if either the accompanied cargo ship, or the US Navy warship leaves international waters, and enters Iran territory, which as the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is virtually assured: a strait which as the following US Naval update map has become as busy for US traffic as the 405 Freeway during rush hour.

Poison pill: Rubio floats amendment to Corker’s Iran bill requiring Iran to recognize Israel’s right to exist

Is there any strategy behind this apart from generating a nice pro-Israel credential for Rubio’s resume that he can show off to GOP primary voters this summer? What I mean is, is there any chance that this somehow improves — or kills — the final deal between the U.S. and Iran or at least puts Obama and the Democrats in a verrrry tough spot in defending it?

Russia impinges on Israel's right to bomb Iran

American neocons are in a lather over Russia’s decision to go ahead with the sale of anti-aircraft missiles to Iran. The apparent outrage is that Iran thinks it has a right to protect its citizens from Israel’s right to launch airstrikes into Iran’s territory, as ex-CIA analyst Ray McGovern explains.

Rubio Amendment Set to Kill Iran Nuclear Deal

While the Senate’s upcoming Iran bill, aiming to give Congress veto power over any pact negotiated by the P5+1, already put the deal in serious jeopardy, a new amendment to it proposed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R – FL) seems to be the silver bullet that will kill any chance of the deal.

The Rubio Amendment would require that any nuclear deal with Iran include an explicit public endorsement from Iran of Israel’s status as a “Jewish state.”

Jets of a Saudi Arabian-led coalition bombed Sanaa airport on Tuesday to prevent an Iranian plane from landing in the war-torn country, Yemeni officials and Iranian state media reported.

A runway, a civilian aircraft and part of a terminal building at Sanaa international airport were destroyed after being struck by missiles.

The attack forced two Iranian planes that had flown into Yemen over neighboring Oman to turn back, according to a Yemeni official.

"The planes were carrying medical aid and entered Yemeni airspace this morning," the official told Middle East Eye via Skype.

Splitting Iraq: US Military Bill Would Redefine Kurds, Sunni Militias as Separate Country

In an attempt to limit the prospects for overseas meddling, US law requires foreign military aid to be delivered direct to host countries, as opposed to just any old armed faction the US wants to throw weapons at.

That might seem like a straightforward rule, but House Republicans are seeing a pretty straightforward way to circumvent it, announcing their intention to declare Iraqi Kurdistan, as well as some Iraqi Sunni Arab militias, as “countries” of their own for the sake of aid shipments.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This makes those smaller countries easier to "manage" which has been on both the US agenda for Iraq and Iran all along.

Iran seizes commercial ship, U.S. forces respond

The ship, a Marshall Islands flagged vessel, was transiting the Strait into the Persian Gulf on an internationally recognized maritime route when the the Iranian military contacted the vessel and directed the ship master to "divert further into Iranian Waters," according to Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This stinks of a deliberate provocation to derail the P5+1.

The above is the tracking map for the vessel, M/V Maersk Tigris. The little squiggle is where it was intercepted by the Iranian patrol boat.

Click for larger image

This is the same tracking map, but with the shipping channels and Iranian territorial waters overlaid. From this it is obvious that the M/V Maersk Tigris was following the normal shipping route, but then did indeed alter course to starboard and into Iranian territorial waters. The only question is why? The tracking system indicates accurate GPS data was being received by the ship, so spoofing is out. There are no geographic features justifying a turn to starboard. Was the Captain of the M/V Maersk Tigris "persuaded" by the US Government to trigger a confrontation?

Reports claim Iran 'seized' US cargo ship, Pentagon says it's Marshall Islands-flagged

The Iranian Navy has reportedly seized a US ship with 34 crew members on board, for violating Iran's waters in the Persian Gulf. The Pentagon denies the vessel belongs to the US, claiming it is registered in the Marshall Islands.

A Pentagon spokesman has confirmed that Iranian forces boarded the Marshall Island-flagged Maersk Tigris vessel after patrol boats fired warning shots across its bow and ordered it deeper into Iranian waters, Reuters reports.

The vessel initially ignored the warning but complied after the shots were fired, U.S. Army Colonel Steve Warren said.

The worse kept secret is the joint plans of Israel and their American stooges for a sneak attack on Iran. Another Idiotic Plan to Hurt Russia

So, is this the plan, to provide “energy security” to Europe by replacing Russian gas with Iranian gas?

It sure looks like it. But that suggests that the sanctions really had nothing to do with Iran’s fictitious nuclear weapons program but were merely used to humiliate Iran while keeping as much of its oil and gas offline until western-backed multinationals could get their greasy mitts on it.

Indeed, that’s exactly how the sanctions were used even though the nuclear issue was a transparent fake from the get go. Get a load of this from the New York Times:

“Recent assessments by American spy agencies are broadly consistent with a 2007 intelligence finding that concluded that Iran had abandoned its nuclear weapons program years earlier, according to current and former American officials. The officials said that assessment was largely reaffirmed in a 2010 National Intelligence Estimate, and that it remains the consensus view of America’s 16 intelligence agencies.” (U.S. Agencies See No Move by Iran to Build a Bomb, James Risen, New York Times, February 24, 2012)

Mexicans well remember the mass killing of 43 Ayotzinapa students of last September, unarmed students of a college that caters to the rural poor, who were protesting the government’s education reform which would make school unaffordable for the poor. UK election: What the parties say about Palestine

“Law” and “justice” are words that seldom if ever pass the lips of our politicians when discussing the ‘Palestine Question’ — or shouldn’t that be properly called the ‘Israel Question’? In the UK there is still no rush, it seems, to deliver law or justice to the situation after 100 years of betrayal.

Britain’s ferocious warmongering in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, and efforts to destabilize Syria, caused havoc in those countries and earned us a reputation for human misery making. This week our misbegotten chickens came home to roost in an unbearably distressing way as desperate refugee-migrants drowned at sea hundreds at a time.

Galeano Died — Revolution Goes On!

In Latin America, Eduardo Galeano was revered as a giant of letters, as a symbol of rebellion, of revolution, and of the fight for justice.

“Utopia is on the horizon,” Galeano once wrote. “I move two steps closer; it moves two steps further away. I walk another ten steps and the horizon runs ten steps further away. As much as I may walk, I’ll never reach it. So what’s the point of utopia? The point is this: to keep walking.”

Galeano told me that he was in love with two ladies, both splendid, both fragile, both tremendously desirable. One was called Utopia, the other, Reality.

Both are dangerous to the masters of the world, to Empire, because one gathers dreams, including dreams for a better world, while the other one bravely tells the truth.

Will Washington Kill Us All? — Paul Craig Roberts

The demonization of Russia and its leader by the New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, Fox News, and the rest of the American Propaganda Ministry, by almost the entirety of the House and Senate, and by the White House makes reducing the threat of nuclear war impossible.

How much confidence do you have in Washington? How many times has Washington–especially the crazed neocons–been wrong?

Did you know that Washington keeps 450 nuclear ICBMs on “hair-trigger alert”? Washington thinks that this makes us “safe.” The reasoning, if it can be called reason, is that by being able to launch in a few minutes, no one will try to attack the US with nuclear weapons. US missiles are able to get on their way before the enemy’s missiles can reach the US to destroy ours.

If this makes you feel safe, you need to read Eric Schlosser’s book, Command and Control.

Israeli Air Force Chief Confident He Can ‘Get Job Done’ Attacking Iran

Last week’s announcement by the Russian government that they are cancelling a ban on selling S-300 defensive missiles to Iran seems to be sparking a flurry of comments from US and Israeli officials insisting they can attack Iran whenever they want, with or without the S-300.

Yesterday it was President Obama, but today was Israeli Air Force commander Major General Amir Eshel’s turn, insisting he is confident he can “get the job done” if ordered to attack Iran.

Eshel confirmed the S-300 is a “very sophisticated system,” but said he had no doubts that Israel, which had invested “immense resources” in preparing to attack Iran, could get around it in a strike.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is extremely regrettable that Israel has invested "...immense resources into preparing to attack Iran...", rather than investing those resources in figuring out how to live with an Iran using nuclear energy for power.

I would like to politely suggest to Major General Eshel that an attack against Iran would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly wrong move the Israeli government and military could make right now, just as the technical framework for a nuclear deal has been established, and the P5+1 is working to agree on the technical ramifications of how this agreement is going to work.

I would like to suggest that the US government may well decide NOT to participate against such a strike, as Obama has committed himself to the potential success of such a deal, but Russia may very well, ultimately, join the fray on the side of Iran.

Hezbollah could attack Israel from the North, and the potential for Israeli casualties is far greater than the MOD will ever state.

Oh, and one last thing, Major General Eshel; by bombing Iran, you will also be bombing one of the oldest, continually practicing Jewish communities in the world, which have chosen to stay in their homeland, Iran, rather than immigrate to Israel.

How you, and the other war-hawks in Israel consider your Jewish brothers and sisters here as merely "collateral damage" in such a potential strike, just confounds me to the depth of my soul.

US INTELLIGENCE: HOUTHIS ARE NOT IRAN PROXY

“It remains our assessment that Iran does not exert command and control over the Houthis in Yemen,” Bernadette Meehan, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council, told The Huffington Post.

Instead of rescuing US citizens trapped in Yemen, the US has been rescuing Saudi bombers, refueling Saudi bombers, directing Saudi bomb-attacks from within and outside of Saudi Arabia, and re-arming Saudi Arabia with bombs and ammunition – all openly announced by US officials in public statements. Such behavior is standard operating procedure and unsurprising to people who seriously follow US actions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if the Americans have been left stranded to provide more bloody shirts to wave in an attempt to get the American people on board with a US ground invasion of Yemen (as though that has not already most probably begun).

Iranian Warships Arrive Near Yemen

A fleet of Iranian warships arrived near the southern coast of Yemen on Wednesday in a move likely to add greater tension in a developing U.S.-Iranian standoff in the region, according Iranian military leaders.

Just days after the United States announced it would send its own warships to Yemen in order to prevent Iran from smuggling weapons to terror forces fighting there, a flotilla of Iranian destroyers docked in the same area.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes, I can see the warships featured in the image on the left hand side of the article, and the date of the photo is 7 April.

But are these the same ships which have actually arrived near Yemen, or are they actually cargo ships, bringing humanitarian aid which we are NOT seeing in this image, and were these warships actually going to somewhere else rather than to Yemen?!?

The Iranian military and civilian leadership may be many things, but stupid is definitely not one of them.

I seriously doubt that they are out for a confrontation of either American or Saudi forces; that does not mean, however, that the US and Saudi governments are not salivating at the possibility of ginning up a false flag to be blamed on Iran, and throw the region, and the world, into further turmoil.

To make sense of the events that have led to the current negotiations over Iran’s so-called nuclear ambitions, certain elemental realities should be highlighted:

Israel: We Can Target Russian-Made Weapons

Infuriated by Moscow's decision last week to revive a long-shelved S-300 missile deal to Tehran, officials here reiterated Israel's right to target those batteries or any other high-end Russian arms transferred to regional terrorist organizations via Iran or Syria.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Go ahead Israel; try to bomb an anti-air missile system!

Moscow says S-300 supplies to Iran will force those willing to attack it to ‘think twice’

However, according to the minister, neither Moscow, nor Tehran need a Russian-Iranian military alliance.
"We have received no [such] proposals from the Iranian side. This is unrealistic and unnecessary," Lavrov said.
According to him, Russia, Iran, as well as India and China are members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). "SCO members and observers actively interact within the framework of this antiterrorist structure, at regular military exercises, which are primarily of antiterrorist nature or are aimed at emergency response preparation," said the Russian foreign minister. "This is quite enough for promoting these ideas," Lavrov said. "As for the attitude towards Russia in Iran, I think the people fairly assess our interaction."

Iranian airline buys Boeing 757

In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he said this is the first Boeing 757 aircraft which joins the commercial fleet of the country and the second Boeing will be added to the Taban Air fleet by next month.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I guess Boeing is above those US sanctions!

SAUDIS DECLARE END OF ONE YEMEN OPERATION, THEN ANNOUNCE A SECOND

Iranian officials began Tuesday hopeful a ceasefire would bring an end to the relentless air campaign Saudi Arabia and its Arab allies have conducted in Yemen for nearly a month now. In the following hours Saudi Arabia announced on television that Operation Decisive Storm was over, that “all the goals had been met” and declared the beginning of a new operation: “Restoring Hope.” In its statement, the kingdom said the new operation would have more of a political focus, would spend time dealing with helping civilians and counter terrorism.

Nuke Deal Fallout: Iran Becomes Major Battleground for Arms Deals

With the framework for an agreement to lift international sanctions against Iran finally in place, Tehran is poised to become a battleground for international arms sales, which has neighboring Arab countries watching closely.

Iranian support for Yemen's Houthis goes back years

If the U.S. ships intercept the Iranian convoy, they may find it is carrying humanitarian supplies to Yemen to relieve a populace facing massive shortages, Schenker said. Iran for years has provided humanitarian and military assistance to Shiite militias in Iraq and Lebanon, and in the past it has provided similar assistance to Sunni militias fighting Israel in the Gaza Strip.

"There is the possibility of a humanitarian crisis of immense proportions," he said. "Nobody wants to go into Yemen to do this kind of work. But one thing we've learned over the past few years is that the Iranians always stand by their friends."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I did a Google search for the Iranian "warships" on their way to Yemen and all Google showed were photos of the US warships heading for a confrontation. From this I conclude that the Iranian ships are not warships but cargo ships full of humanitarian aid, but Google doesn't think you need to know that.

US Navy Confirms Aircraft Carrier, Warships To Intercept Iranian Weapons Shipments In Yemeni Waters

The 'proxy' war is escalating very rapidly. As AP reports, Navy officials confirm that the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt is headed to Yemeni waters to intercept an Iranian weapons shipments. Just as we warned 10 days ago, the probability of a major escalation over the latest proxy Middle Eastern civil war escalated substantially when Iran parked two warships off the Yemeni coast.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is only an assumption that the Iranian ships contain weapons. Given that Iran made no effort to conceal the sailing, I would not be surprised to find out it is actually humanitarian aid as 50% of the people of Yemen are now starving due to the US/Saudi war to re-impose US puppet rule. If the US sinks the Iranian ships and nothing but food parcels are seen floating in the wreckage, it will be as huge an embarrassment to the US as when the USS Vincennes shot down the Iranian Airbus.

Did NBC Cover Up Role of U.S.-Backed Free Syrian Army in 2012 Kidnapping of Richard Engel?

American MSM Faking Stories Again?

IDF Censor Seeks Possible Phantom Leaker

Haaretz’s managing editor, Aluf Benn, published a series of articles (this is the main one) about an ill-fated Israel-Iran oil venture, the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Company (EAPC), that began in 1968 and ended in 1979, just after the Iranian Revolution. The most criticial part of the project was a pipeline running from Eilat to the major Israeli port of Ashdod. The Shah agreed to ship his oil via the pipeline, thus avoiding the Suez Canal, and then transport it, via tankers jointly owned by the venture, to Europe. Israel received approximately $200-million in oil from Iran before the Shah’s regime collapsed and Iran withdrew from the venture.

Kristol frets that he walked into Obama’s ‘trap,’ and Rubio says he’ll demand Iran recognize ‘Israel’s right to exist’

President Obama appears to have won another round in the high-stakes domestic battle that is the Iran deal. The Bob Corker-Ben Cardin bill that passed Senate Foreign Relations the other day giving Congress the ability to review the deal once it’s cut seemed like a victory for opponents of the deal; but by the end of the weeks neoconservatives were scrambling, because they sensed the legislation doesn’t give opponents much power to stop a deal.

Iran urges India, China & Russia to counter NATO missile system

Iran has announced its readiness to cooperate with Russia, China and India on the issue of NATO’s missile shield and related threats from the military bloc, the head of its defense ministry said in Moscow.

“I’d like to support the idea of developing multifaceted defense cooperation between China, Iran, India and Russia to counter NATO eastwards expansion and installing a missile shield in Europe,” Hossein Dehghan said on Thursday, at an international security conference in Moscow.

Hours later Dehghan was cited by RIA Novosti as saying that Russia, China and Iran may hold tri-party defense talks.

“We discussed certain aspects of regional security. It was proposed to hold a trilateral meeting of Russia, Iran and China,” Dehghan said after meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

Conference on the Israel Lobby—Press Blackout at the Press Club

So, where were the reporters of the mainstream media? Where was C-SPAN during a week when Congress was on a holiday and their cameras were not preoccupied by Capitol Hill activities—its foremost priority? Apparently, the American people were only to see and hear the extreme views of AIPAC that do not even command the support of a majority of American Jews who do favor a two-state solution, along with a majority of Arab-Americans.

Organized by the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, which was launched about thirty years ago by a British Army Officer who served in World War II and two retired U.S. Ambassadors to countries in the Middle East (wrmea.org), the day-long program at the prestigious National Press Club should have been intriguing to reporters. After all, are they not interested in important, taboo-challenging presentations on a critical dimension of U.S. foreign and military policy?

UK General Elections: Breakaway SNP strikes fear into Westminster parties

… but notions of independence are flawed

The SNP (Scottish National Party), under feisty new leader Nicola Sturgeon, is scaring the daylights out of Labour and Conservatives with the prospect of a strong squad of MPs marching south headed by fearsome former leader and political bruiser Alex Salmond.

Cameron or Miliband for prime minister – warmongering toff or socialist nonentity? And with whose coalition help? That’s the bleak choice for British voters.
