‘We got lucky with Russia’: US citizen’s family to RT after Yemen evacuation

The lack of clarity over the evacuation of US citizens from Yemen continues, as more Americans are lifted from the warzone by Russian planes. A relieved family of 10 spoke to RT amid Washington’s continuing inaction.

While it continues to say it’s too risky to evacuate its own, one American told RT of his disbelief at his government’s lack of effort to get his family to safety. A Russian rescue plane on Friday reunited them at New York’s JFK Airport.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I think the US Government wanted Americans to be killed in Yemen, to build support for a direct US ground invasion!

Al-Qaeda's Air Force: United States And Saudi Arabia

By Brandon Turbeville

It was evident early on that the US bombing of alleged ISIS targets inside Syria was, in reality, an attempt to support the terrorist organization backed by NATO and the US as opposed to an attempt to defeat it. While such a suggestion has been repeatedly labeled as a “conspiracy theory” by the mainstream media and other gatekeepers in the “independent” media, the fruits of America’s labor in terms of the bombing campaign cannot be ignored. Likewise, neither can the world ignore the results of Saudi Arabia’s bombing of Yemen.

The truth is that the United States, NATO, and the GCC/Arab League are bombing in couched support of ISIS, increasing its gains and hold on power with every sortie fired. With this fact recognized, the NATO/GCC network of national governments can now officially be labeled as the Air Force of Al-Qaeda...

Houthi Arms Bonanza Came From Saleh, Not Iran

And in their eagerness to conform to the general theme of an Iran vs. US-Saudi proxy war in Yemen, the media’s treatment of alleged Iranian arms to the Houthis has ignored the fact that the Houthis had forged an alliance by early 2014 with a far larger source of arms: former President Ali Abdullah Saleh. It was that alliance that propelled the Houthis into power last September, not their ties with Iran.

After Saleh was forced to step down as president in 2012, the government supposedly reorganized the military and Saleh’s son Ahmed Ali Saleh was ousted as commander of the Republican Guard. But in fact Saleh continued to control the military through his allies in most of the command positions. When the Houthi advanced on Sanaa last September, it was all carefully choreographed by Saleh. The Houthis were able to take one Yemeni military facility after another without a fight and enter the capital easily.

Houthi Weapon Bonanza - a Gift From USA

"Information Clearing House" - "MEE" - As the Saudi bombing campaign against Houthi targets in Yemen continues, notwithstanding a temporary pause, the corporate media narrative about the conflict in Yemen is organised decisively around the idea that it is a proxy war between Iran on one side and the Saudis and United States on the other.

USA Today responded like Pavlov’s dog this week to a leak by Pentagon officials that it was sending the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt to the waters off Yemen, supposedly to intercept Iranian vessels carrying weapons to the Houthis. It turned out that the warship was being sent primarily to symbolise US support for the Saudis, and the Pentagon made no mention of Iranian arms when it announced the move. But the story of the US navy intercepting Iranian arms was irresistible, because it fit so neatly into the larger theme of Iran arming and training the Houthis as its proxy military force in Yemen.

Armenians mark 100 years since Ottoman massacres

Armenians Friday marked the centenary of the massacre of up to 1.5 million of their kin by Ottoman forces as France called on Turkey to recognise the 1915 slaughter as genocide.

At an emotional ceremony in the capital Yerevan, the French leader called on Turkey to use "other words," referring to Ankara's refusal to recognise as genocide the Ottoman Empire's massacre of Armenians.

"Important words have already been said in Turkey, but others are still expected, so that shared grief can become shared destiny," Hollande told an audience that included Russian President Vladimir Putin, the leaders of Cyprus and Serbia and delegations from some 60 countries.

Why Is Yemen Our War?

The Saudis have hit airfields, armor and arms depots, and caused a humanitarian catastrophe. Nearly 1,000 dead, 3,500 wounded and tens of thousands homeless. The poorest nation in the Arab world is near collapse. Dependent upon imported food, Yemen faces malnutrition and starvation.

And the United States has been an accomplice in the Saudi bombing of Yemen.

Why? Why is Yemen’s civil war America’s war?

What did the Houthis ever do to us?

Webmaster's Commentary:

It is really quite simple, Pat. back in 2012, the US "intervened" in Yemen to kick out the legitimate government of Yemen that wanted to rule Yemen for the benefit of Yemen and installed a US puppet that ruled Yemen for the benefit of American corporations. This is something the US has attempted against the governments of more than fifty other nations since the end of WW2, succeeding about half the time. The successes include Cuba in 1952, Iran in 1953, Chile in 1973, and Egypt in 2013. Obama bragged about the Yemen success in 2012! But the old model is starting to fall apart. The US plan of covert overthrow only works when the people of a nation follow the new Junta as they followed the previous leaders. But that has started to break down. The people of Cuba kicked out their US puppet in 1959. Iran kicked out their US puppet, the Shah, in 1979. The people of Eastern Ukraine responded to the US backed coup in Kiev by simply breaking off and trying to go their own way.

so now in Yemen, their people are tired of the US puppet Hadi and want their own President Saleh back. The American Empire, alarmed at how the pesky conquered provinces are refusing to stay conquered, is going to make an example of Yemen, one of the poorest nations in the Middle East, that you accept and love your US puppet rules or bad things will happen to you such as starvation blockades and the bombing of civilians and civilian infrastructure.

That clear it up for you?

US INTELLIGENCE: HOUTHIS ARE NOT IRAN PROXY

“It remains our assessment that Iran does not exert command and control over the Houthis in Yemen,” Bernadette Meehan, a spokeswoman for the National Security Council, told The Huffington Post.

Instead of rescuing US citizens trapped in Yemen, the US has been rescuing Saudi bombers, refueling Saudi bombers, directing Saudi bomb-attacks from within and outside of Saudi Arabia, and re-arming Saudi Arabia with bombs and ammunition – all openly announced by US officials in public statements. Such behavior is standard operating procedure and unsurprising to people who seriously follow US actions.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder if the Americans have been left stranded to provide more bloody shirts to wave in an attempt to get the American people on board with a US ground invasion of Yemen (as though that has not already most probably begun).

And I have a short memo to President Obama: you're selling us war; but we're just not buying, thank you very much!!

EU Allies Pay for America’s Global Conflict and Refugees

Europe’s refugee crisis is just another American bill for the latter’s legacy of global conflict – a bill that is being dumped at the European allies’ door to pay. Years of US-led wars waged in Central Asia, through the Middle East and across North Africa are arguably the major factor in the droves of migrants now straining the European Union, as they seek refuge from raging conflicts and deprivation. The nationalities of the refugees mirror the trail of countries that America has pulverised over the past decade.

Iranian Warships Arrive Near Yemen

A fleet of Iranian warships arrived near the southern coast of Yemen on Wednesday in a move likely to add greater tension in a developing U.S.-Iranian standoff in the region, according Iranian military leaders.

Just days after the United States announced it would send its own warships to Yemen in order to prevent Iran from smuggling weapons to terror forces fighting there, a flotilla of Iranian destroyers docked in the same area.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Yes, I can see the warships featured in the image on the left hand side of the article, and the date of the photo is 7 April.

But are these the same ships which have actually arrived near Yemen, or are they actually cargo ships, bringing humanitarian aid which we are NOT seeing in this image, and were these warships actually going to somewhere else rather than to Yemen?!?

The Iranian military and civilian leadership may be many things, but stupid is definitely not one of them.

I seriously doubt that they are out for a confrontation of either American or Saudi forces; that does not mean, however, that the US and Saudi governments are not salivating at the possibility of ginning up a false flag to be blamed on Iran, and throw the region, and the world, into further turmoil.

Ex-CIA chief will be sentenced for leaking military secrets

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Former CIA Director David Petraeus, whose career was destroyed by an extramarital affair with his biographer, was expected to be sentenced Thursday in federal court in Charlotte for giving her classified material while she was working on the book.

Petraeus will appear at the sentencing, which comes two months after he agreed to plead guilty to a misdemeanor count of unauthorized removal and retention of classified material.

The plea agreement carries a possible sentence of up to a year in prison. In court papers, prosecutors recommended two years of probation and a $40,000 fine. But the judge is not bound by that and could still impose a prison sentence.

The agreement was filed in Charlotte, where Paula Broadwell, the general's biographer and former lover, lives with her husband and children.

Saudi Arabia’s Disastrous War in Yemen

In what has been three decades of ill-advised wars in the Middle East, Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen may be the most ill-advised of them all. “Operation Decisive Storm,” the ironic name for Saudi Arabia’s aerial campaign in Yemen, has led to nothing decisive in Yemen beyond ensuring that the country remains a failed state and fertile ground for organizations like al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). Long before the commencement of “Operation Decisive Storm,” Yemen, the poorest country in the Middle East, was grappling with a host of problems ranging from severe water shortages, food insecurity, and a moribund economy, to a long running multi-front insurgency. Saudi Arabia’s war in Yemen has exacerbated all of these problems and could well be the coup de grace for a unified and relatively stable Yemen.

Time to Wake up to some Realities on the Iran Deal

Too many cooks spoil the broth, and that appears to be precisely what the Senate had in mind.

Evidently Obama has concluded that a veto-proof majority in both Houses stood behind the Foreign Relations Committee bill, and reluctantly conceded. But that wrests control of the process out of the hands of the Administration. The Iran deal may have died this afternoon.

To make sense of the events that have led to the current negotiations over Iran’s so-called nuclear ambitions, certain elemental realities should be highlighted:

Yemen ex-president Saleh 'hopes for return to dialogue'

Yemen's pro-rebel ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh voiced hope Wednesday that a halt to a Saudi-led air campaign in support of his exiled successor would open the way for renewed dialogue.

"While the decision to start the attacks and the aggression was rejected, the decision to stop the attacks and end the aggression is welcome," Saleh said in a Facebook post carried by his party's website al-motamar.net.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is the real issue in Yemen. In 2012 the US intervened and kicked Yemen's legitimate leader out and replaced him with a puppet ruler, just as the US has done to Chile, Iraq, Iran, Libya, Kiev, and some twenty other nations since the end of WW2. The people of Yemen, like the people of Iran, Iraq, Libya, etc. do not like having their nation ruled by a government that serves a foreign power. Who does? Here in America this is growing awareness of how the US Government has become a puppet for Israel, and that angers us. Hence the people of Iraq, Libya, Yemen, eastern Ukraine, are trying to take their country back from foreign rule, just as Iran succeeded in doing in 1979. Saleh wants his legitimate job back. The people of Yemen want him back. But the US, using Saudi Arabia as a proxy, are going to starve and bomb the people of Yemen until they realize that once under US puppet rule, they are expected to stay there, just as the US is doing in Iraq, Libya, Eastern Ukraine, and as soon as possible, Iran.

The leaders of nations will gladly kill each other over who gets to rule what region, but can be counted on to unite against any people that dares think they should rule their own country!

Russia sending two more evacuation planes to Yemen — embassy

"If Saudi Arabia opens airspace, two Russian aircraft are expected to arrive in Sana’a to evacuate citizens," the Russian diplomatic mission in the country said on Tuesday.
More than 400 people, both the citizens of Russia, the United States and the former Soviet states, are expected to be evacuated, according to the embassy. "If everything is fine, the Russian aircraft will evacuate everyone," it said.
Since early April, Moscow has evacuated more than 1,000 citizens of Russia, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and other countries. Around 900 people were evacuated from Sana’a and the seaport city of Aden on April 2 and April 4 to an airbase outside Moscow.
On April 12, the Priazovye vessel of Russia’s Navy brought another 320 people, including 18 US citizens, from Aden to Djibouti. All the Russian citizens were flown from Djibouti to Moscow by two Il-62 aircraft on April 12-13.

Saudi Arabia Orders Its National Guard To Enter Yemen War

Over the better part of the past month, the only entities actively involved in the proxy war in Yemen against the local Houthi rebel force have been air force units, mostly under Saudi command as part of Operation "Decisive Storm." Which probably explains why there has been little if any progress to note in pushing back said rebellion which, armed heavily thanks to the US government, has successfully managed to push the current president into an indefinite exile.

That changed hours ago, when Saudi Arabia's King Salman ordered the Saudi Arabian National Guard, widely regarded as the kingdom's best equipped military ground force, to take part in Riyadh's campaign against Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen.

As Reuters notes, "military operations in the campaign have so far been carried out by the Royal Saudi Air Force and the Royal Saudi Land Forces, which answer to the Defense Ministry. The national guard is a separate military structure run by its own ministry."

Pakistan faces dilemma as Saudi bills come due

When the Saudi appeal first came, it seemed that the dispatch of Pakistani soldiers to the Gulf was imminent: "Any threat to the territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia will be met with a firm response," read a communique from Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.

But soon thereafter, Pakistan's foreign ministry issued a denial that any of the country's military was engaged in Yemen, though the Pakistani flag continued to fly alongside that of Arab nations at the Saudi-based headquarters of Yemen operations.

This "now-you-see-it, now-you-don't" game ended only when Pakistan's Parliament voted against the dispatch of troops. Still, the episode shed light on the murky world of Pakistani-Saudi relations, a link which looks destined to shape the security map of the Middle East for years to come.

Israeli Fighter Jets Join Saudi Arabia in War on Yemen

Israel’s fighter jets have taken part in the Thursday Saudi-led airstrikes on Yemen, sources in Sanaa disclosed on Friday.

“This is for the first time that the Zionists are conducting a joint operation in coalition with Arabs,” Secretary General of Yemen’s Al-Haq Political Party Hassan Zayd wrote on his facebook page.

He noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had issued direct orders for the Israeli air force to send fighter jets to the Saudi-led air raid on Yemen.

Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes against Yemen and killed, at least, 25 civilians early Thursday, one day after the US-backed Yemeni president fled the country.

46 Civilians Killed as Saudi Warplanes Attack Yemen Capital

At least 46 people are dead tonight and several hundred others wounded after Saudi warplanes launched attacks on the outskirts of a missile depot in the Yemeni capital city of Sanaa.

No military casualties were reported in the strikes, which set off a string of explosions around residential neighborhoods in Sanaa. Many of the casualties were from explosions blowing out windows in people’s homes.

Saudi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Ahmed Asseri went on to say that today’s strikes were part of a “new phase” of war against the Houthis, one which he insisted would include “protection of civilians.” So far, the phase seems not to be off to a great start.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have two words for Saudi military spokesman Brig. Gen. Ahmed Asseri, and those are: WAR CRIMES!!!

And, sir, would someone from the Saudi military please inform me about how one wins what is essentially a ground war from the air?!?

The short answer is, you can't!

The indiscriminate killing of civilians here appears to be quite deliberate, from the Saudi military perspective, and with heavy US military enabling.

The only ways here to restore peace and sanity to Yemen is a negotiated settlement, coupled with some VERY brave Sunni and Shiite clerics having a conversation about cooperating with each other, and becoming examples of what it means to treat the other with tolerance and compassion.

Oxfam Condemns Coalition Airstrike on Humanitarian Aid Warehouse in Yemen

Grace Ommer, Oxfam's country director in Yemen, called on the warring sides of Yemen's conflict to establish peace and allow for humanitarian access.

Oxfam strongly condemned Monday the bombing of one of its warehouses in Saada Governorate in the north of Yemen.

"This is an absolute outrage particularly when one considers that we have shared detailed information with the Coalition on the locations of our offices and storage facilities," Grace Ommer, Oxfam's country director in Yemen, was quoted as saying by the organization on its website.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am having a palm to forehead moment, at almost terminal velocity, upon reading this.

Is this woman pathologically incapable of understanding that when Oxfam gives the coalition the GPS locations of food storage places within Yemen, these places will be bombed out of existence?!?

Misery is just what the US and Saudi forces want to inflict on the people of Yemen, who had the utter audacity to throw the US-sponsored puppet, Al-Madi, out on his keister.

There have been reports of schools and hospitals being shelled. As reported in the latimes.com 5 days ago:

Pentagon officials, who pride themselves on the care they take to avoid civilian casualties, have watched with growing alarm as Saudi airstrikes have hit what the U.N. this week called "dozens of public buildings," including hospitals, schools, residential areas and mosques. The U.N. said at least 364 civilians have been killed in the campaign. lRelated Al Qaeda seizes Yemen airport, military base; U.N. envoy resigns MIDDLE EAST Al Qaeda seizes Yemen airport, military base; U.N. envoy resigns SEE ALL RELATED 8 Although U.S. personnel don't pick the bombing targets, Americans are working beside Saudi military officials to check the accuracy of target lists in a joint operations center in Riyadh, defense officials said. And IF, as the article asserts, "Americans are working beside Saudi military officials to check the accuracy of target lists in a joint operations center in Riyadh", only one of two things is possible here: either these civilian targets are being deliberately hit to create as much human carnage and misery possible, or the Saudis, using US gps "smart bombs" cannot shoot straight!!

Iranian support for Yemen's Houthis goes back years

If the U.S. ships intercept the Iranian convoy, they may find it is carrying humanitarian supplies to Yemen to relieve a populace facing massive shortages, Schenker said. Iran for years has provided humanitarian and military assistance to Shiite militias in Iraq and Lebanon, and in the past it has provided similar assistance to Sunni militias fighting Israel in the Gaza Strip.

"There is the possibility of a humanitarian crisis of immense proportions," he said. "Nobody wants to go into Yemen to do this kind of work. But one thing we've learned over the past few years is that the Iranians always stand by their friends."

Webmaster's Commentary:

I did a Google search for the Iranian "warships" on their way to Yemen and all Google showed were photos of the US warships heading for a confrontation. From this I conclude that the Iranian ships are not warships but cargo ships full of humanitarian aid, but Google doesn't think you need to know that.

Israeli President Reuven Rivlin and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu have turned down a request from former US President Jimmy Carter to meet during his upcoming visit to the occupied Palestinian territories because of Carter’s 'anti-Israel' stance, a report says.

According to an unnamed Israeli official, both leaders refused to meet Carter following consultations between the Israeli foreign ministry and the national security council of the premier’s office, Israeli newspaper Haaretz reported on Monday.

The foreign ministry urged Rivlin and Netanyahu to refrain from meeting the 90-year-old due to his "anti-Israeli stance" over the last few years, according to the official.

The report said that Israel has allowed Carter to visit the besieged Gaza Strip during his visit.

The U.S. Is Helping Commit Atrocities in Yemen—And Pretending It's Iran's Fault

In an April interview with PBS Newshour, Secretary of State John Kerry was asked about Iran’s involvement in the escalating war in Yemen. His response was astounding and revealing.

“Iran needs to recognize that the United States is not going to stand by while the region is destabilized or while people engage in overt warfare across lines — international boundaries — in other countries,” Kerry said.

The quip was astounding because Iran is not bombing Yemen or engaged in “overt warfare” there, though it has given some support to one side. The culprit on the overt warfare front is Saudi Arabia.

Red Crescent: Tens of Yemeni Children Killed by Saudi Poison Gas

"We will display a video on the death of tens of children who died after inhaling poisonous gases," an official of Yemen's Red Crescent Society, Abdollah Maboud Al-Shokri, told FNA on Sunday.

He noted that the bomb explosions in the Saudi airstrikes not only destroy a large number of homes, but also create a thick cloud of poisonous and fatal gases.

Yemeni officials had already warned that the bombs that the Saudi regime has used in Sana'a were different from those used in other parts of Yemen.

They said that the bombs were of the very rare and dangerous type that resulted in the suffocation of the residents of the affected regions.

On Friday, eyewitnesses said that Saudi Arabia has used internationally banned weapons in its aerial bombardment on an area near Sana'a.

Iran urges India, China & Russia to counter NATO missile system

Iran has announced its readiness to cooperate with Russia, China and India on the issue of NATO’s missile shield and related threats from the military bloc, the head of its defense ministry said in Moscow.

“I’d like to support the idea of developing multifaceted defense cooperation between China, Iran, India and Russia to counter NATO eastwards expansion and installing a missile shield in Europe,” Hossein Dehghan said on Thursday, at an international security conference in Moscow.

Hours later Dehghan was cited by RIA Novosti as saying that Russia, China and Iran may hold tri-party defense talks.

“We discussed certain aspects of regional security. It was proposed to hold a trilateral meeting of Russia, Iran and China,” Dehghan said after meeting with Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu.

Conference on the Israel Lobby—Press Blackout at the Press Club

So, where were the reporters of the mainstream media? Where was C-SPAN during a week when Congress was on a holiday and their cameras were not preoccupied by Capitol Hill activities—its foremost priority? Apparently, the American people were only to see and hear the extreme views of AIPAC that do not even command the support of a majority of American Jews who do favor a two-state solution, along with a majority of Arab-Americans.

Organized by the Washington Report on Middle East Affairs, which was launched about thirty years ago by a British Army Officer who served in World War II and two retired U.S. Ambassadors to countries in the Middle East (wrmea.org), the day-long program at the prestigious National Press Club should have been intriguing to reporters. After all, are they not interested in important, taboo-challenging presentations on a critical dimension of U.S. foreign and military policy?

Iranian ship convoy moves toward Yemen, alarming US officials

U.S. military officials are concerned that Iran's support for Houthi rebels in Yemen could spark a confrontation with Saudi Arabia and plunge the region into sectarian war.
Iran is sending an armada of seven to nine ships — some with weapons — toward Yemen in a potential attempt to resupply the Shia Houthi rebels, according to two U.S. defense officials.

What's unusual about the new deployment, which set out this week, is that the Iranians are not trying to conceal it, officials said. Instead, they appear to be trying to "communicate it" to the U.S. and its allies in the Gulf.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Which suggests to me that the convoy is actually food and humanitarian aid.

On this day in history, April 15th, 1912, the Titanic sank. Today’s guest Christopher Bollyn, author of Solving 9/11, says the American ship of state is sailing towards doom – and the only way to turn it around is by facing the truth about 9/11.

Christopher just returned to his home in Europe after a “Solving 9/11 Ends the War” speaking tour in the US. (I will be speaking in some of the same venues during next week’s We Are NOT Charlie Hebdo book tour.) We discuss America’s, and the world’s, gradual awakening to the truth about 9/11 – and the possibility that Netanyahu and the neocons could launch another huge false flag to torpedo the Iran nuclear agreement and cover their 9/11 tracks via a wider war that could go global and nuclear.

S-300 missile system serves defense purposes for Iran: Putin

Russian President Vladimir Putin has defended Moscow’s recent decision to deliver S-300 air defense system to Iran, saying the system is meant for deterrence amid the developments in war-torn Yemen.

He made the remarks during his annual televised question-and-answer session with the nation at Gostiny Dvor (Merchant Yard) exhibition hall in the Russian capital city of Moscow on Thursday.

“This is a defensive weapons system. More than that, considering the situation that is building up in the region, especially regarding the incidents in Yemen, we think that the delivery of this kind of weapon is a preventive factor,” Putin said.

The comments come as Yemen has been the scene of deadly aerial assaults by Saudi Arabia since March 26. The attacks have so far killed some 2,600 people, according to Yemeni sources.

The Kremlin and the Neocons

While Clark’s public exposé largely escaped attention in the neocon-friendly “mainstream media” (surprise, surprise!), he recounted being told by a senior general at the Pentagon shortly after the 9/11 attacks in 2001 about the Donald Rumsfeld/Paul Wolfowitz-led plan for “regime change” in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Iran.

This was startling enough, I grant you, since officially the United States presents itself as a nation that respects international law, frowns upon other powerful nations overthrowing the governments of weaker states, and – in the aftermath of World War II – condemned past aggressions by Nazi Germany and decried Soviet “subversion” of pro-U.S. nations.

But what caught my eye this time was the significance of Clark’s depiction of Wolfowitz in 1992 gloating over what he judged to be a major lesson learned from the Desert Storm attack on Iraq in 1991; namely, “the Soviets won’t stop us.”

Geopolitical Ramifications of US-Saudi Armed Interventionism in Yemen

The Houthi rebellion in Yemen that was already in existence more than five years ago had recently turned into a full-blown conflict that escalated into an international crisis in the first week of April of 2015 when Houthi rebels in Yemen deposed President Abed Rabou Mansur Hadi, throwing him out of the helm of Yemeni government. Hadi fled to Saudi Arabia while the Houthis effectively captured the capital Sana’a. Thereafter, Saudi Arabia, has initiated massive aerial bombings against the de facto Houthi government in Sana’a and in various strategic areas of Yemen that are now being occupied by the Houthi militia.

Almost half of all Americans want to support Israel even if its interests diverge from the interests of their own country. Only a minority of Americans (47 percent) say that their country should pursue their own interests over supporting Israel’s when the two choices collide. Russia bashers eat crow as Putin wins Time Magazine poll

Vladimir Putin steals the show in TIME 100 reader’s poll

Western media did their best to hide Putin’s stratospheric popularity in their assigned propaganda task of demonizing Russia and Putin over the Ukrainian Western coup , replacing the Iran nuclear weapons threat hoax with the new Russian Bear threat one.

The biggest threat to our national security comes from treasonous cliques within our own ranks and their recent marriage over that last decade into the international corporate crime syndicates.

We are not really biased here at VT. It is just a simple observation to us… it is Putin and Lavrov all the way. No one can touch them and they own this piece of history, something that the spinmeisters cannot lay a glove on.

How the GOP Became the Israel Party

Bill Kristol and John McCain have replaced Robert Novak and Pat Buchanan in Republican foreign policy influence.

When the unexpectedly detailed P5+1 framework agreement with Iran was announced last Thursday, Illinois Republican Mark Kirk made a bizarre comment. “We all know” said the senator, that this is going to end with “a mushroom cloud somewhere near Tehran”—a result of Israel having to go to war to “clean up the mess” made by American and European negotiators. A few days earlier John McCain had expressed the wish that Israel “go rogue” and attack Iran in order to upend the Iran negotiations.

Two Russian planes evacuate over 350 people from Yemen

Over 350 Russian citizens and foreign nationals have flown to Moscow from Sanaa fearing civil war, a spokesman for the Russian embassy in Yemen told Interfax by telephone on Sunday.

"Both planes flew out from Sanaa at about midday," he said.

Yemen: Another Failed U.S. Military Intervention

The average U.S. voter or taxpayer doesn't realize this important point and thinks that the U.S. government is merely swatting away bad guys who are attacking us because we love freedom. Politicians, such as George W. Bush and Barack Obama, purposefully obscure the decades of U.S. meddling in the Middle East and Islamic countries prior to any terrorist attack on the United States, including that of 9/11. And after that fateful day, the U.S. doubled down on what most inflames militant Islamist radicals -- non-Muslim attacks on and occupation of Muslim soil -- by attacking or invading at least seven Muslim countries. Bush and Obama have told the world that we are not at war with Islam, but Muslims may think differently from the other side of the gun barrel.

U.S. Widens Role in Saudi-led Campaign Against Houthi Rebels in Yemen

The U.S. is expanding its role in Saudi Arabia’s campaign in Yemen, vetting military targets and searching vessels for Yemen-bound Iranian arms amid growing concerns about the goals of the Saudi-led mission, according to U.S. and Arab officials.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It has already come out that the targets are not just the Houthis, but Yemen military still loyal to the former Yemen President Saleh, who was ousted by a US intervention in 2012 and replaced by US puppet Hadi, currently hiding in Saudi Arabia.

Israeli Paper: Israel Needs To Find the Right Time To Stop Iran’s Nuclear Program

“Israel is on its own on Iran and has to find the right time to stop its nuclear program kinetically,” Efraim Inbar, director of the Begin-Sadat Center for Strategic Studies at Bar-Ilan University, told The Jerusalem Post in an interview on Sunday.

“The issue is political will,” said Inbar, arguing that we got to this point “because the US administration does not have the will to act against Iranian nuclear aspirations.”

“US-Israel relations are on a collision course because of [President Barack] Obama’s policy on Iran and during this difficult period Israel needs to minimize the damage to the pillars of US-Israel relations,” he said.

However, he says, “We cannot accept the American policy on Iran and sometimes small states have to oppose even superpowers’ policies.”

BEX Alert - "ISIL threatens to ‘burn America’ like 9/11"

The ISIL terrorist group has threatened to “burn the United States again" by conducting terrorist attacks against the country similar to the September, 11, 2001 attacks in New York City and the Washington, DC.

The Takfiri terrorist organization released a propaganda video on Saturday via the Internet titled “We Will Burn America”, warning that Americans are not safe anywhere in the world.

“America thinks it’s safe because of the geographical location,” a voice-over in the video says. “But the dream of Americans to have safety became a mirage.”

"Today there is no safety for any American on the globe," the voice adds, while showing footage of planes crashing into the World Trade Center in New York City as well as acts of savagery by the group in Iraq and Syria.

Dissent and Freedom of Expression in India

Before being voted out of office last year, India’s Congress-led United Progressive Alliance administration sanctioned open-field trials of GM food crops in India andMonsanto’s share prices rocketed. This decision prompted Rajesh Krishnan of the Coalition for a GM Free India to state that the government was against the interest of citizens, farmers and the welfare of the nation. He went on to state that the government had decided to work hand in glove with the multinational GM seed industry that stood to gain immensely from the open field trails. Since then, the Modi-led administration has continued the policy to drive GMOs into India.

ISIL helps Israel conceal historical origin

“The Zionist paradigm is founded on the distorted story of the Israelites’ Exodus from Egypt and their persecution by the Assyrians and Captivity by Babylonians. But the truth is that the Israelites never set foot in Egypt or Palestine. Actually they never left Ancient Arabia and North Yemen, their origin land, before the Babylonian Captivity” . . .

. . . The question here; why a purportedly Islamist organization want to destroy ancient Assyrian and Babylonia artifacts. Islamic laws don’t ban sculpture per se (most Islamic countries have museums packed with statues) but only prohibits worshiping idols as used to be during pagan cultures. Everybody knew that neither Assyrian nor Babylonian ancient idols/statues were honored or worshipped by modern day Iraqis or Syrians. Still that did not deter ISIL from destroying the ancient statues, cuneiform tablets and artifacts.

Saudi warns Iranian warships not to enter Yemeni waters

A Saudi official warned Iranian warships sent to the Strait of Bab El-Mandeb and the Gulf of Aden not to enter Yemeni waters.

"Iranian ships have the right to be present in international waters, but they won't be allowed to enter Yemeni territorial waters," spokesman of the Saudi-led anti-Houthi coalition forces, Brigadier General Ahmed Asiri told reporters in Riyadh on Wednesday.

Iran deployed two warships including a naval destroyer near Yemen on Wednesday saying the move comes to protect the Islamic Republic's interest in international waters.

Yemen war, beginning of ominous plot to divide Saudi Arabia: Iran diplomat

A senior Iranian diplomat has warned against the fallout of Saudi Arabia’s illegal military campaign against Yemen, saying it is a conspiracy that aims to disintegrate Saudi Arabia.

“The enemies of the [Middle East] region are unfortunately trying to disintegrate and weaken Saudi Arabia, and the aggression against Yemen and its consequences are the start point of this ominous plot,” Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Sunday.

He called on the United States to stop pursuing dual policies in the Middle East and recommended Saudi Arabia to stop counting on Washington’s help in Yemen.

Partner or Pariah? Kerry Calls Lavrov for Help

Naming and shaming over the Iranian nuclear debacle will call out who just is the real pariah and who is the real partner to world peace.

Reading the Western news media is like swimming in a goldfish bowl. News one day gives way to some other transient story the next, and so on and on. With the result that if one were to rely on the Western media for understanding on any particular issue, there is faint chance of proper assimilation. This is because there is typically negligible context, perspective or continuity – as well as, of course, misleading spin and outright disinformation.

To illustrate: one of the most bizarre – unwittingly bizarre – recent news reports was how US Secretary of State John Kerry made an urgent call to Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. Kerry reportedly needed Lavrov for help in clinching a breakthrough in the deadlocked nuclear negotiations with Iran.

All we ever hear from the US government and press is that the US is so incredibly good and altruistic. So, how could this be happening?

''Al-Qaeda Linked Rebels'' Are Al-Qaeda

Brandon Turbeville
Activist Post

Since the beginning of the Western-backed foreign invasion of jihadist terrorists into Syria in late 2010, the American and Western mainstream media has attempted to present the death squad fighters on the ground as two-sided – one group being Islamist extremists and the other being “moderate rebels.” As I have documented extensively, this characterization is entirely inaccurate as there is no such thing as a moderate rebel in Syria. Still, this information has not stopped major media outlets from producing presentations in stark contrast to the facts.

In recent months, however, as more and more evidence surfaces proving the official narrative of the existence of “moderate rebels” to be false, the corporate media outlets have taken to yet more propaganda-based name-changes and distortion surrounding the proxy forces fighting on the ground inside Syria...

The Dönmeh: The Middle East’s Most Whispered Secret (Part I)

Israel has always been reluctant to describe the Turkish massacre of the Armenians by the Turks in 1915 as “genocide.” It has always been believed that the reason for Israel’s reticence was not to upset Israel’s close military and diplomatic ties with Turkey. However, more evidence is being uncovered that the Armenian genocide was largely the work of the Dönmeh leadership of the Young Turks. Historians like Ahmed Refik, who served as an intelligence officer in the Ottoman army, averred that it was the aim of the Young Turks to destroy the Armenians, who were mostly Christian. The Young Turks, under Ataturk’s direction, also expelled Greek Christians from Turkish cities and attempted to commit a smaller-scale genocide of the Assyrians, who were also mainly Christian.

The Collapse of the Obama Doctrine

To suggest that the United States policies in Yemen was a ‘failure’ is an understatement. It implies that the US had at least attempted to succeed. But ‘succeed’ at what? The US drone war had no other objective aside from celebrating the elimination of whomever the US hit list designates as terrorist.

But now that a civil and a regional wars have broken out, the degree of US influence in Yemen has been exposed as limited, their war on Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, in the larger context of political, tribal and regional rivalry, as insignificant.

The Video That Could Indict the Pentagon for Murder

To explain the current war in Yemen, the Washington Post finds someone to quote saying, "nobody can figure out either who started this fight or how to end it."

Really? Nobody? The second U.S.-armed dictator in the past few years is overthrown by militants empowered by opposition to U.S.-armed dictatorship. This after a Yemeni man told the U.S. Congress to their faces that the U.S. drone strikes were empowering terrorists. A larger neighboring U.S.-armed dictatorship in Saudi Arabia starts bombing and threatening to take over, as in nearby U.S.-armed dictatorship Bahrain. Saudi U.S. weapons are destroying piles of Yemeni U.S. weapons, and nobody can figure anything out?

Here are some U.S. children hiding from Soviet nukes many years ago, and a Yemeni child hiding from U.S. drone strikes more recently (source). How does that alone not indict anyone?

Iran – The Story behind the Story

Allowing a country like Iran destroying the US hegemon’s power base by taking a sovereign decision to abandon the dollar for oil and gas trading – no way.

It would have meant the end of the dollar as the world’s chief reserve currency, and giving up the instrument of coercing the world into accepting Washington’s dictate, the tool that serves to dish out sanctions left and right – no way!

Washington’s seemingly blind and preposterous arrogance drives the closest allies into the ‘adversary’s camp. The FED (Federal Reserve Bank) announced on 2 April 2015 that it fined the German Commerz bank with 1.7 billion US dollars for dealing with Cuba, Sudan and Iran – Washington sanctioned countries.

When even the staunchest stooges of empire seek alliances in the East, the writing is on the wall, that the economic winds are shifting, that a tectonic sea-change is in the offing and that the Iran nuclear deal, one way or another, doesn’t really matter in the foreseeable future.

United Arab Forces? A wish Al-Sisi may come to regret

In a recent interview with Daily News Egypt Libyan Minister of Media, Culture and Antiquities Omar El Gawairi said that “supporting the Libyan army” is the only solution to get out of the current crisis in Libya, continuing that “we’ll push for joint Arab defence… [it is] one of the most important steps” to be stressed upon in the upcoming summit.

But at a time when the Arab world is wracked by even more division, void and turmoil than usual, the possibility of nations lining up under one uniform is far from a straightforward affair.

Since Monday, the legislators have been discussing Riyadh’s request from Islamabad to contribute ships, aircraft, and troops to the warfare. In the face of the two countries’ strong alliance, the Pakistani parliament has overwhelmingly rejected the idea of military intervention in Yemen, with lawmakers saying they do not see the impoverished Arab Peninsula nation as a threat to the integrity of Saudi Arabia.

“The Yemen war is not our war...Our advice to the government is that the army should not go,” said opposition member of parliament Shireen Mazari on Wednesday, adding, “As Muslims, we are duty-bound to counter any threat to holy shrines but there is no such threat today.”

Opposition Senator Tahir Hussain Mashadi said the “aggressors” were the Saudis and the victims were the Yemenis. “Now the aggressors are asking another sovereign state, Pakistan, to come to provide military aid to Saudi Arabia.”

The marathon took place late last month at 2 p.m. on a day when the temperature reached 84 degrees. Workers were bused in and forced to run, some in jeans and flip-flops. They were told they had to finish the race in what was an effort to break the Guinness World Record for the largest marathon, which ultimately failed. According to Amnesty International, the migrant workers face extreme exploitation including physical and sexual abuse.

Qatar is on schedule to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup, despite allegations of FIFA bribery, and it has brought in migrant workers to help build sports stadiums and infrastructure. The International Trade Union Confederation has estimated that 4,000 migrant workers will die during construction.

6 children dead in Yemen as Saudi-led coalition airstrike hits school

Half a dozen children were killed after a rocket hit a school in a Saudi-led coalition air raid in central Yemen, Sputnik reported citing a military source. The Red Cross has warned of a “catastrophic” situation as shelling in Yemen intensified.

“So far we have recovered the bodies of three students, the bodies of the remaining [three students] are still being removed,” the source told the agency.

The targeted school was reportedly in a central province, located between Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, and the port city of Aden.

The Nineveh Plains Protection Unit: US Christians fund emerging private war on Iraq jihadists

After fighting with rebels in Libya and embracing the revolt in Syria, Matthew VanDyke has rolled up in northern Iraq, but the celebrity American revolutionary-cum-filmmaker has traded his fatigues for a three-piece suit.

VanDyke, who rose to fame as a foreign fighter backing Libyan rebels against Moamer Kadhafi, has just finished leading his new military contracting firm through its first assignment — training Christian volunteers to take on jihadists.

Funded by Christian groups from abroad, mainly from the United States, the Nineveh Plains Protection Unit (NPU) aims to bring a local Christian militia to bear against the Islamic State group that has seized swathes of Iraq and Syria.

VanDyke is one of the best-known — and least camera-shy — figures in an expanding and complex constellation of foreign fighters, organisations and donors getting involved in a private war against the jihadists.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As a Christian, I am very tired of seeing these battles in the Middle East characterised as a latter-day crusade.

Oh, I am quite certain that there are those in the military, in DC, and the various alphabet soup "security agencies" in this country who LOVE to see these "Christian Soldiers" get lots of press, to inflame the masses in this country to want to enlist and just tear up any Muslim in the region with their bare hands.

I would not bet against some covert US government agencies actually funding these activities.

There is only one minor problem, however: these movements in the Middle East are economic and political in nature, not religious.

Religion is just the window-dressing here, applied sort of like a smokescreen, to keep people from recognizing what is really going on.

It is about who is in control of the vast riches of the region of the Middle East and Africa, and in what currency these assets will be sold.

In this country, and around the world, people are waking up to this reality.

I am sure that these Christian mercenaries are well-intentioned. However, the harder thing to do is to ask those in control and power in this country why the US keeps propping up tin-pot dictators in places like Yemen and Bahrain, and keep getting surprised when a desperate civilian population has had enough, and - literally throw the bums out?!?

Yemen campaign a ‘great mistake’: Iran official in Beirut

The Saudi-led military campaign launched two weeks ago in Yemen is a “great strategic mistake,” an adviser to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Wednesday during a visit to Beirut.

“We believe that a huge mistake has been committed recently in the issue of Yemen,” Morteza Sarmadi, who is also the country's deputy foreign minister, said after meeting with Prime Minister Tammam Salam at the Grand Serail.

“The airstrikes in Yemen have resulted in numerous atrocities, and has shed the blood of innocent civilians... This should be ended.”

US stepping up weapons deliveries to Saudi-led coalition bombing Yemen rebels

Washington deepened its involvement in the Saudi-led air war in Yemen Wednesday as aid agencies scrambled to deliver help to civilians caught up in the campaign now heading into its third week.

The Red Cross has warned of a “catastrophic” situation in main southern city Aden where militia loyal to fugitive President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi have been holding out against Huthi Shiite rebels and their allies within the security forces.

Scores of people have been killed or wounded in the street fighting in the heart of the port city and aid agency Doctors Without Borders said it feared many more had been unable to reach hospitals.

The main Shiite power Iran, which has strongly opposed the Saudi-led intervention, stepped up its efforts for a negotiated settlement with a visit to Saudi ally Pakistan by Foreign Minister Mohammed Javad Zarif.

Webmaster's Commentary:

So far, this Saudi-led bombing campaign has been disastrous, from both a tactical and PR perspective.

It has managed to kill and maim a huge number of non-coms, and not really made a dent in the Houthi takeover of Yemen.

This is, of course, why the internet in this country was taken down late last month; to prevent pictures of the dead and wounded going viral.

But Yemen isn't alone. When conflict strikes, Internet access is often an early casualty -- cutting off communications for civilians when they need it the most. "When there's some sort of conflict, communications ends up being damaged or in some cases intentionally disconnected," said Doug Madory, who watches global online routing data from his perch in New Hampshire as the director of Internet analysis for Dyn. The effects can be particularly harmful in the developing world, where infrastructure is less robust than in other nations. Such is the case with Yemen, whose Internet infrastructure is controlled by one state-run provider and relies on a handful of access points to just two submarine fiber cables. Internet stability in Yemen started to get rocky on Monday, Madory said. But the apparent outages of the Djibouti cable, starting Wednesday as fighting intensified in Aden, caused more significant disruptions. "It's safe to say that national Internet connectivity during that time was degraded," he said.

Bombing the Houthis into submission doesn't seem to be working at all, and I have to wonder; does the Saudi and US military leadership have a plan?!?

Because there is one thing I do know: no military on the planet can actually win what is, essentially, a ground war from the air.

Degrade capabilities?!? Perhaps. But win?!? In a single word, no.

U.S. plan to shut down cell phones and internet in energency. Court ruled no disclosure. Flashback: U.S. condemns cell phone and internet shut down in Egypt and Syria

It seems the courts through a Freedom of information act lawsuit is standing by the U.S. government and not allowing the release of the U.S. governments plan to shut down the internet and cell phone service (plan SOP303) in times of emergencies. In other words if there was civil unrest.

The reason why the lawsuit was filed in the first place was due to when all cell phone service was cut in San Francisco during the BART unrest.

EPIC asked the court to revisit its ruling, arguing that the decision, "if left in place, would create an untethered 'national security' exemption'" in FOIA law. On Friday, the court ordered (PDF) the government to respond—a move that suggests the appellate court might rehear the case.

Yemen – the Big Picture. US Sponsored Civil Wars

As usual, western media are deliberately confusing in communicating on the latest Mid-East conflict which eventually led to the recent atrocious bombing of Yemen by the US-directed Saudi alliance, including Qatar and other Gulf monarchies. They are proxies, to be sure, for their Washington masters. My heart is bleeding for Yemen, a country of warm and generous people I got to know well, working with them in the 1990s and early 2000s.

The Iran Nuclear Energy Agreement: Force Again Prevails Over Law — Paul Craig Roberts

The real question, however, is on what basis can Iran possibly trust Washington?

Iran should ask former Soviet president Gorbachev what Washington’s word is worth. In exchange for Gorbachev’s agreement to the reunification of Germany, Washington promised Gorbachev that NATO would not move one inch to the East and promptly took NATO to Russia’s border and is now working to incorporate former parts of the Russian empire into NATO.

Iran should ask current Russian president Putin what Washington’s word is worth. Sensing Russian strategic weakness, the George W. Bush regime broke the Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty that Washington had signed with Moscow. Pulling out of the treaty, Washington quickly put anti-ballistic missile bases on Russia’s borders, hoping to degrade Russia’s strategic missile forces that serve as a guardian against Washington’s first nuclear strike, a policy now permissible under Washington’s revised war doctrine.

Al-Qaeda militants attack Yemen-Saudi Arabia border post - reports

Suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists reportedly attacked a remote Yemeni military post near the Saudi border on Tuesday, killing several officers. The attack comes amid turmoil in Yemen which has already claimed over 540 lives, according to the WHO.

A remote border base was stormed by suspected Al-Qaeda militants near Manwakh, about 440 km (270 miles) northeast of Yemen's capital, Sanaa, Reuters reported, citing sources in the country's eastern Hadramawt province.

The US and Israel: Diverging interests

Lawrence Davidson says the US’s interests in the Middle East have diverged from Israel’s, with Washington prioritising the jihadist threat while Israel and Saudi Arabia see the jihadists as allies against Iran.

Authentic Journalism that Challenges Empire and Its Centers of Power

Exposing Lies of the Empire is a monumental work.

Some years back, I was approached to come up with a story that I’d really like to cover. There were many, but right away I was drawn to a story whose angle was completely marginalized in any media I had checked. I was interested to go to Zimbabwe and get a genuine impression from Zimbabweans of how they view the direction of their country under the government of Robert Mugabe. How they viewed the redistribution of land within the country.

In the case of theft, when the stolen property is recovered, the usually accepted, and rightful, custom is that the property be returned to its rightful owner(s).
