Possible Motives for Ousting Hagel

At the start of Barack Obama’s second term, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel was seen as the best hope for standing up to the neocons, inside and outside the administration. Though Hagel proved to be a weak champion, his sudden removal could portend more trouble ahead.

The abrupt resignation of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel – along with the failure to reach a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear program on the same day – does not augur well for the last quarter of Barack Obama’s presidency, reflecting his continuing tendency to let the neocons have their way.

Calling Sens. Mitchell, Daschle—Your “Bipartisan” Center Is In Funny Company

The question is, how was it that the foreign policy project of a “bipartisan” organization—founded by two relatively liberal former Democratic Majority Leaders and two relatively moderate former Republican Majority Leaders—was effectively captured and held captive for no less than seven years by hard-core neoconservatives determined to sabotage a top foreign-policy priority of a sitting Democratic president?

Former Democratic Sens. George Mitchell and Tom Daschle co-founded the Bipartisan Policy Center(BPC), along with their former Republican colleagues and fellow former majority leaders, Sens. Howard Baker and Bob Dole back in 2007. The Center, which describes itself as a “non-profit organization that drives principled solutions through rigorous analysis, reasoned negotiations and respectful dialogue,” has generally promoted mainstream, centrist positions on a range of issues over the years, including economic and energy policy, governance, health, and homeland security.

Israel – America’s Biggest Frenemy

The Jewish State in the Levant is a burden we shouldn’t have to bear.

For decades the Israelis have lived off our largesse without having to offer anything of value in return – unless Israeli interference in American politics is considered of value. We’ve handed them over $3 billion a year in tribute, stood by while they subjected their Palestinian helots to conditions not seen since South Africa’s apartheid, and smiled tolerantly, as one would at an obstreperous child, while they noisily spat in our faces at every opportunity.

And what have we gotten in return? Insults, interference, and outright threats – not to mention one of the most effective (and obnoxious) spying operations conducted on our soil by a foreign power.

Biden in Kiev on US Regime-Change Victory Tour

Russia this week condemned the dangerous escalation of US military involvement in Ukraine. Moscow’s foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said the arms announcement «broke all agreements» and that it would further destabilize the country and make a political resolution of the conflict less likely.

The next US planes to follow Biden’s will be loaded with weapons and other non-lethal munitions, as earlier this week Washington announced for the first time that it is to start supplying the Kiev regime with military hardware. Those weapons are to include anti-tank and air defence systems, sniper rifles and machine-guns.

Will the Iran Deal-Wreckers Prevail?

Iran appears ready to sign an agreement tightly constraining its nuclear program in exchange for some sanctions relief, but neocons and other U.S. hardliners appear determined to wreck the deal, which could make Mideast tensions even worse, writes ex-CIA analyst Paul R. Pillar

As of this writing the greatest chance of wrecking it appears to involve not what is going on at the negotiating tables in Europe but instead what the U.S. Congress may do back in Washington to sabotage the work of the diplomats. The energy for the Congressional wrecking ball comes, as it always has, from three sources.

‘International law is being applied highly selectively, when it comes to Iran’

RT talks to U.S. foreign policy analyst Soraya Ulrich

Soraya Ulrich is not optimistic that a deal would be reached before the deadline. She raises the point that this is not just about Iran, this is a fight about upholding international laws and international treaties, which are being violated by the United States. She notes that Iran has never violated the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), yet it is being accused of doing so. If we succumb to the violation by one party i.e United States and its allies in this case, then international laws and international treaties will loose all meaning and other countries will fall prey to such lawlessness.

Top US and Iranian diplomats have decided to stay in Vienna to continue tense negotiations on the nuclear issue until a consensus suitable to both states is reached.

World powers are trying to agree on limits for Iran’s uranium enrichment, and the sanctions imposed on the country.

Moment of Truth — Iran and Obama

President Obama cannot mollify those critics inside as well as outside his administration who want unconditional surrender from the IRI (Islamic Republic of Iran)and still expect to get an agreement. Humiliation is a dangerous and delicate business. Especially so when the party whom you intend to humiliate is a proud people and its leaders willful.

A recommendation: Sign the nuclear accord with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Announce it with great fanfare. Declare that this opens a new era in relations between the two countries and holds out the prospect for achieving peace and stability across the region. By acting in this way, the United States would redraw the diplomatic map of the Middle East in ways that open opportunities for resolution of its internecine conflicts and for the establishment of a measure of stability.

All-Out War in Ukraine: NATO’s ‘Final Offensive’

Is Poroshenko’s forthcoming blitz against the people of southeast Ukraine designed to provoke a Russian response – to the humanitarian crisis? Will Russia confront the NATO-directed Kiev offensive and risk a total break with the West?

There are clear signs that a major war is about to break out in Ukraine: A war actively promoted by the NATO regimes and supported by their allies and clients in Asia (Japan) and the Middle East (Saudi Arabia).

UN resolution on Iran mockery of justice

The UN consciously or unconsciously plays into the hands of the pro-Israeli pressure groups in Canada and only puts on an ugly show of duplicity in imposing a ruling against the Islamic Republic.

The farce becomes more markedly absurd when you consider the plethora of human rights abuses going unpunished in the world with the UN laying a lid of ignorance on these blatant violations.

Iran has strongly lambasted the UN resolution, saying that “the UN’s legal mechanisms have turned into a tool in the hands of the West.”

The irony of the resolution is that the measure was initially drafted by Canada which has itself a disgracing history of human rights abuse against the aborigines in the country. Further to that, Ottawa has constantly and vehemently thrown its full-throated support behind Tel Aviv in its inconceivably ruthless crimes against the people of Palestine.

Europe Veering From US Abyss Over Russia?

One hopes that Europe is beginning to part ways with the US direction on Russia – a direction that is leading to an abyss.

It’s long overdue but better late than never that Europe might just be back-pedaling on America’s aggressive agenda towards Russia. The business-like visit to Moscow this week by Germany’s Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier suggests that Europe can come to its senses to seek a diplomatic resolution of the escalating tensions over the Ukraine crisis – tensions that could spark a wider continental war, or worse.

Steinmeier met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov in which the pair stressed the need to find a political end to the violence in Ukraine.

Updating JFK In Berlin: “Ich Bin Ein Palestinian”

When President John F. Kennedy told the world on June 26, 1963. “Ich bin ein Berliner”, he was asserting his solidarity with Berliners separated by a wall.

Barack Obama has two more years in which to find his “pairing of the man and the moment”. His presidency has been badly marred by his unwillingness to denounce the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and people.

The inhumane blot of the occupation cries out for Obama action.

NSA monitoring situation: China training Pakistani troops along India border

The report, accessed by PTI, said these military manoeuvres were being conducted at forward defence locations of Pakistan which are usually manned by border guarding personnel– the Pakistan Rangers.

Preliminary inputs analysed by BSF also showed some Pakistan Army units have taken over paramilitary posts of Rangers opposite Sriganganagar sector.

BSF also found a handful of new observation towers have also been set up by Pakistan in recent past along Abohar and Gurdaspur sectors in Punjab.

The BSF intelligence reported that phone intercepts along the border indicate that Pakistan Army and Rangers are planning to deploy snipers and sharp shooters at strategic locations and posts to target Indian soldiers and assets.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, IN FACT THIS REPORT IS TRUE (and note that there is a bit of weasel-wording here), why on earth would China be doing that, and at this point?!?

It appears that Pakistan is attempting to respond to the breakdown of the ceasefire with India, with some help from China; unfortunately, this is being spun as China-sponsored aggression.

The Fall of the Berlin Wall and the Multiplication of Western Walls

The Walls of Freedom and the Walls of Prison

‘Russia uses language Washington understands’

To keep pandering with futile diplomacy and to not reciprocate the show of force with Washington and its minions would be the really reckless option. You don’t encourage a bully. Instead, you have to square up and push back.

Has Russia reached the limit of its diplomatic tolerance of the US and its NATO allies? The announcement this week that Moscow is to begin deploying long-range bombers in the Gulf of Mexico – America’s own backyard – suggests so.

The move may seem like a reckless ratcheting up of tensions between the old Cold War rivals. The Tupolev Russian strategic bombers in question are nuclear-capable, and as expected the decision to patrol the Caribbean seas sparked a stern response from Washington, warning Moscow of risks.

Pakistan court issues arrest warrants for protest leaders Khan, Qadri

Pakistani opposition leaders reacted with outrage on Thursday after a court issued arrest warrants for a top politician and a firebrand cleric who led protests in the capital of Islamabad aiming to topple the government.

An anti-terrorism court issued the arrest warrants for opposition leader and former cricketer Imran Khan and cleric Tahir ul-Qadri late on Wednesday. The warrants accused their supporters of storming parliament and the state television building on Sept 1.

The warrants may provoke fresh unrest at a time when the country is struggling to rebuild its image.

Thousands of protesters led by Khan and Qadri demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over allegations of corruption and vote-rigging in the May 2013 polls.

2 Rebels, Civilian Killed in Indian Kashmir

Two suspected rebels and a civilian were killed in a fierce gunbattle in the Indian-controlled portion of Kashmir, an Indian security official said Friday.

Central Reserve Police Force Inspector General Nalin Prabhat said the clash began Thursday and raged all night. He said the civilian was hit in the crossfire and succumbed to his injuries.

However, local residents said civilians began throwing stones at the troops, who responded with shots, killing one of them. Resentment against Indian rule and the heavy presence of security troops runs deep in Indian-held Kashmir.

There was no independent confirmation of the incident and no immediate comment from the dozens of rebel groups fighting Indian rule.

Rebels have been battling Indian control since 1989. More than 68,000 people have been killed in the fighting and in a subsequent Indian military crackdown.

American neocons are furious that President Obama reportedly sent a letter to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei apparently urging concessions on nuclear talks and referencing joint interests in combating Islamic State radicals, but the letter may reflect smart diplomacy, says ex-CIA analyst Paul R. Pillar.

The bursts of criticism — from those who inveterately oppose any dealing with Iran, and those who inveterately oppose anything Barack Obama is doing, which include some of the same people — of a letter Mr. Obama reportedly sent to the supreme leader of Iran can readily be dismissed for multiple reasons.

Russia’s Vulnerability to EU – US Sanctions and Military Encroachments

President Putin has the backing of the vast majority of Russian people; he has the scientific and professional cadre; he has allies in China and among the BRICS; and he has the will and the power to “do the right thing”. The question remains whether Putin will succeed in this historical mission or whether, out of fear and indecision, he will capitulate before the threats of a dangerous and decaying West.

The US-EU sponsored coup in the Ukraine and its conversion from a stable Russian trading partner, to a devastated EU economic client and NATO launch pad, as well as the subsequent economic sanctions against Russia for supporting the Russian ethnic majority in the Donbas region and Crimea, illustrate the dangerous vulnerability of the Russian economy and state. The current effort to increase Russia’s national security and economic viability in the face of these challenges requires a critical analysis of the policies and structures emerging in the post-Soviet era.

Will the blackmail of British Jewish funders backfire?

The story in The Independent On Sunday was not quite as explicit as its headline. Its message was not that very many Jewish funders had already pulled the plug on funding for the Labour Party but that they were intending to do so.

Question: What’s the difference between the Zionist lobby in America and the Zionist lobby in Britain?

Answer: In America it gives money to politicians to make them. In Britain it denies them money to break them.

What is Miliband’s crime in the eyes of wealthy British Jews who have been contributing to Labour Party funds?

He condemned Israel’s last war on the Gaza Strip which he described as “wrong and unjustifiable.” He also accused Conservative Prime Minister Cameron of being wrong not to have condemned Israel; and he added that Israel was “losing friends in the international community day by day.” (Which is true).

Discovering Iran — Soraya Sepahpour-Ulrich

Marcel Proust said: “The voyage of discovery is not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes.” During the past two decades, I visited Iran on numerous occasions staying 10-14 days at a time. This time around, I stayed for 2 months and heeding Proust, I carried with me a fresh pair of eyes. I discarded both my Western lenses as well as my Iranian lenses and observed with objective eyes. It was a formidable journey that left me breathless.

It is hard to know where to start a travel log and how to describe a newfound world in a few pages. However, given the obsession with the status of women, it is perhaps appropriate to start with the women in Iran as I perceived them.

Canada’s ‘Remembrance Day’: righteous or rancorous?

With Canada’s annual “Remembrance Day” just around the corner, it would be wise to broach the issue of “remembering” those Canadians who fought and died in the two bloodiest conflicts in world history with some humility and skepticism.

With all things considered, “Remembrance Day” amounts to little more than a glorification of war and an exercise in jingoism and self-aggrandizement. It re-enforces the insulting myth of the “good” and “necessary” wars. It encourages the refusal to recognize the wrongs committed by “our side” in those bloody conflicts. This‘day of reverence’ for our soldiers acts as a mind control mechanism to deceive the public into believing that our government has always acted benevolently and in the interests of the people, when in fact the opposite is true.

Kiev’s incorrigible lying always leads eventually to the truth.

Kiev’s President Petro Poroshenko this week called on his fawning Uncle Sam to resuscitate the Geneva format of peace talks. This forum was first convoked back in April between the US, European Union, Russia and the Kiev regime, with the latter arrogating the title of «Ukraine».

Then only two days after this sudden nostalgia for Geneva, the Kiev regime was accusing Russia of a major cross-border military invasion into eastern Ukraine.

911 – Israel Calling John Hamer/Chris Spivey/The Chimp

“September 11, 2001 served as pretext to consolidate power, destroy civil liberties and human rights and wage permanent wars against invented enemies for global dominance over world markets, resources, and cheap labour – notably at home and throughout Eurasia, Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and Asia at the expense of democratic freedoms and social justice.” Stephen Lendman, ‘The Business of America is War’, June 2011

In mid-2000, the now sadly deceased film-maker Aaron Russo was invited to meet the Zionist Nicholas Rockefeller, an invitation which he accepted and they quickly became friends. After a few meetings, Rockefeller confided in Russo that ‘next year there is going to be an event’.

When Russo quizzed him about this ‘event’, Rockefeller told him that this event would give America and its allies an excuse to invade Iraq and Afghanistan in order that they could construct pipelines through to the Caspian Sea and also to take over the Iraqi oil fields and also that the ‘bogeyman’ Osama bin Laden would be blamed.

This then he said, would lead to soldiers looking for non-existent enemies in caves in Afghanistan and Pakistan and that there would be an endless ‘war on terror where there is no real enemy and the whole thing is a gigantic hoax’. It would also lead to further stringent restrictions and controls over the American people which they would accept for their own ‘safety’.

FAKE NAVY SEAL / BIN LADEN STORY?

Navy Seal Rob O’Neill claims that he killed CIA asset Osama bin Laden, in 2011.

The real Bin Laden died in November 2001.

This ‘fake’ Rob O’Neill story has presumably been written by the CIA.

And to make the story sound authentic:

(1) the Pentagon and the Navy Seal Headquarters are pretending to be furious at the naming of Rob O’Neill.

(2) Rob O’Neill is saying that he is speaking out because he is “losing some of his military benefits by quitting the SEALs after 16 years rather than staying for a full 20 years of service.”

O’Neill says that he is not worried about being targeted by ISIS.

This is presumably because ISIS is run by the CIA and its friends.

The Israeli regime does a first-rate job of demonizing itself by its lawless, brutal conduct…. by taking billions of American taxpayers’ dollars and purchasing weapons of horrific destruction to inflict death and misery on its neighbors. America’s Moribund Democracy a Harbinger of More War

The US mid-term elections, which saw the Republican Party take control of the Senate and extending their hold over the House of Representatives, proves one thing: money can buy an election, but it can’t buy democracy. That indictment of eviscerated democracy in America, however, is a portent of more foreign

Congressional elections this week saw $4 billion being poured into media campaigns – a record high. But even with this largess, the majority of American voters were underwhelmed by what was on offer.

The Republicans may have bought the election results this week – from an embarrassing minority of the US population – but this is far from a mandate.

All in all, the Republican dominance emerging this week in Congress spells a hardening of Washington’s foreign policy – or, more accurately, an even more reckless American militarism riding roughshod over diplomacy and international law.

Suicide attack kills 45 on India-Pakistan border

A suicide bombing near the India-Pakistan border has killed at least 45 people, Pakistani police say. Women and children are amongst the dead following the blast, which took place near the Pakistani city of Lahore. The injury count is currently around 70.

"The death toll increased to 45," the provincial police chief in Lahore told Reuters.

A senior police official verified the claims that the blast at the Wagah crossing was a suicide attack. Turkey and China to mediate between Afghanistan and Pakistan

Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong said on Sunday the cooperation among China, Afghanistan and Pakistan would benefit the region and emphasized that building mutual trust and friendly consultations between these countries should be encouraged to promote cooperation.

He made these remarks in his keynote address on the opening day of China-Afghanistan-Pakistan trilateral dialogue here.

A collective regional approach toward countering issues and meeting challenges was emphasized by diplomats, scholars and researchers at the dialogue.

Thanking Pakistan-China Institute Chairman Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed and German political foundation, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS), Pakistan, Resident Representative Ronny Heine for jointly organizing the two-day international conference, Ambassador Weidong said both Afghanistan and Pakistan were close neighbouring countries and were good neighbours to China.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Regional dialogue here, to heal some of the wounds, and ratchet down the tensions, is far preferable to the kind of outside intervention (including extrajudicial assassinations) the US military has been providing here, and may form the basis of real cooperation between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

I wish this process luck.

FLASHBACK 2012 - A CIA gambit in Pakistan threatens a global vaccination program

As an intelligence operation, it must have seemed like pure genius: Recruit a Pakistani doctor to collect blood samples that could identify Osama bin Laden’s family, under cover of an ongoing vaccination program. But as an ethical matter, it was something else.

The CIA’s vaccination gambit put at risk something very precious — the integrity of public health programs in Pakistan and around the globe. It also added to the dangers facing nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in a world that’s increasingly hostile to U.S. aid organizations.

India PM Orders ‘Heavy Losses’ in Pakistan

Firefights continued along the Line of Control between Indian and Pakistani Kashmir tonight, with Pakistan reporting 12 civilians slain in cross-border firing so far this month, and urging the United Nations to stop the growing clashes.

India’s Home Ministry reported the latest orders from Modi are “to ensure that Pakistan suffers deep and heavy losses” in the cross-border fighting, following up on Modi’s bragging about firing 1,000 mortars into Pakistani territory.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF India's Prime Minister Modi actually made those remarks, he will go down as one of India's worst warmonger Prime Ministers in its history.

Because it is not only the Pakistani military which will be killed and maimed for life as this conflict continues; it will also be Pakistan's innocent civilians; children; women; and the medically fragile elderly, unable to escape the firefights.

IF EVER there was a time for the UN and Dr. Ban Ki-Moon to "grow some male attributes" regarding this situation, it is now.

Both countries need to agree to UN peacekeepers on their border, and to back away from escalation of the conflict.

Then, representatives of BOTH countries need to enter into serious, binding arbitration to prevent this from ever happening between them again.

Unfortunately, however, this is very unlikely to happen, even though it desperately needs to happen, to prevent a regional war.

And please remember: the US and India have a mutual defense pact with India, signed in 2005, and goes through December 31st, 2015.
In any major confrontation between India and Pakistan, the US military would have to get involved in India's behalf.

The big question is, what would China do, in a larger military confrontation between India and Pakistan, for Pakistan?!?

India PM: Time for Bullets, Not Talk With Pakistan

Civilians on both sides of the Kashmir Line of Control got a brief respite today from a solid week of cross-border fighting between Indian and Pakistan forces, but leaders on both sides indicate it is likely to remain brief indeed.

In a statement at Maharashtra, Indian Premier Narendra Modi lashed Congress for meaningless statements on the border clashes, saying it is “not the time for empty talk by them, but for bullets by our soldiers.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is a singularly depressing statement for the Indian Prime Minister to have made, publicly, at this time.

I would encourage both sides to ratchet down the rhetoric, and negotiate in a meaningful, good-will atmosphere, to get the shootings and border violations to stop.

More dead and crippled innocents will be an horrific moral stain on the reputations of the leadership of both countries.

Fighting Intensifies on India-Pakistan Border

There have been more civilians killed in cross-border fighting between India and Pakistan in the disputed region of Kashmir.

Indian officials say at least two civilians were killed and 18 wounded Tuesday night in gunfire and mortar exchanges. Pakistani media report three deaths from Indian firing.

Nine people were killed Monday, marking the highest civilian death toll in the Kashmir conflict in more than a decade.

Thousands of civilians have been evacuated on both sides.

Indian Air Chief Marshal, Arup Raha, says India is seeking a quick resolution to bring the border flare-up to an end.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To leadership on both sides of the conflict: STOP IT NOW!!

Get to the negotiating table, check your testosterone at the door, and have the doors locked behind you, until you come up with a reasonable solution to get the fighting to stop.

India, Pakistan exchange fire over Kashmir border for second day

Tens of thousands of villagers fled their homes in Kashmir on Monday, as Indian and Pakistani troops bombarded each other with gunfire and mortar shells over the border separating their portions of the disputed region. At least nine civilians were killed.

Indian officials said the flare-up left five villagers, including one child, dead and 35 injured on the Indian side of the border. The Pakistani army reported four civilians killed on its side, including two children, and three injured.

Monday’s violence — one of the worst violations of a 2003 cease-fire between India and Pakistan — followed several meetings between the commanders of the two countries’ border forces aimed at calming tensions. Two of the three wars between the nations have been fought over their competing claims to Kashmir, though the 2003 cease-fire has largely held despite small but regular skirmishes.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The top leadership of both countries need to check their collective testosterone at the door of a conference building, and have the door locked behind them, until an understanding is reached which prevents any more bloodshed from happening.

How long with this have to keep going, before the people of Indian-controlled Kashmir get the frequently promised referendum asking if they want to continue to be controlled by India, or become an independent state?!?

Millions of Cases of Dengue Fever Are Going Unreported in India

India Holds Bill Gates Accountable For His Vaccine Crimes

“While fraud and corruption are revealed on almost a daily basis now in the vaccine industry, the U.S. mainstream media continues to largely ignore such stories. Outside the U.S., however, the vaccine empires are beginning to crumble, and English versions of the news in mainstream media outlets are available via the Internet.

One such country is India, where the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and their vaccine empire are under fire, including a pending lawsuit currently being investigated by the India Supreme Court.” [1]

US drone kills 10 in northwest Pakistan

A suspected US drone fired four missiles at a vehicle carrying Uzbek and local militants in Pakistan's northwestern tribal region near the Afghan border on Wednesday, killing 10 of them, two Pakistani intelligence officials said.

The missiles hit the moving vehicle when it was about 500 meters (yards) away from the Afghan border in the Pakistani border town of Datta Khel in North Waziristan, the officials said.

Both Uzbek and local militants were among the 10 men killed, the officials said, adding that authorities were trying to get more details. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

The American Establishment Combats Resurgent “Isolationist” Threat

It had become apparent in 2013 that the American people had grown averse to America’s involvement in wars, and this was given empirical confirmation by a poll conducted by the Pew Research Center in November 2013, which revealed that 51 percent of Americans believed that their country’s military involvement was excessive.[1] Once again the bugaboo of isolationism entered the mainstream spotlight, the derogatory label being attached to those who would like to cut back America’s global intervention.[2] Opposition to the alleged resurgent isolationism united all sectors of the mainstream establishment–liberals, moderates, and conservatives, the ultra-interventionist neoconservatives and the more moderate traditional foreign policy establishment.

Iranian Troops Repel Terrorist Attack on Border Checkpoint

The IRGC Ground Force's Quds Base announced in a statement on Tuesday that "a team of terrorists and outlaws attacked a checkpoint station in Saravan border region and intended to capture it, but the IRGC Quds Base forces accompanied by the local people and Basiji troops of the Sistan and Balouchestan province repelled the attack".

The statement said the terrorists had been organized in Pakistan, and launched the attack after crossing the country's border with Iran in the early morning hours of Tuesday.

The terrorists escaped to Pakistan after sustaining heavy casualties during the clashes, it added.

Police in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, fire tear gas as at least 25,000 people people have gathered in the city center demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation. A group of protesters threatened to march on the PM’s house to force him to quit.

At least 300 people were wounded in clashes between police and protesters outside Sharif’s house and the Parliament House, medical sources say.

At least 184people have been taken Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Islamabad, spokesman for the hospital, Wasim Khawaja told AFP while the Poly Clinic hospital received 130 wounded so far.

20,000 Pakistan Riot Police Unleash Tear Gas, Rubber Bullets As Protesters Breach PM's Residence, 230 Injured

Against the background we initialliy explained here, and the escalation we discussed here, Imran Khan's "Pakistan Spring" has grown dramatically. The former cricketing-legend and erstwhile opposition leader's call for people to take to the streets to demand new 'unrigged' elections has 1000s of protesters breaching the Prime Minister's residence in Islamabad. Along with anti-government cleric Tahirul Qadri, Khan urged peaceful protest but, as AP reports, an estimated 20,000 police in riot gear are blocking the procession using tear gas and rubber bullets. Local hospitals report at least 100 injuries.

Pakistan Faces (Another) Military Coup As PM Charged With Murder

Having slammed the US for "liking only those governments in Muslim countries that are your slaves," opposition leader Imran Khan, just as we warned here, has given the army 24 hours to prepare a broad-based reform agreement on behalf of the government (having been asked by Prime Minister Sharif)... i.e. coup-prone Pakistan appears to be back under military rule (for now). Then things got even more bizarre as WSJ reports, Prime Minister Sharif is to face murder chargesrelated to the killing of 10 Muslim cleric Qadri's followers. Qadriu has agreed to wait 24 hours for the army response before announcing his strategy.

As The Times Of India reports,

Political crisis in Pakistan took a new turn on Thursday with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif agreeing to face a murder case relating to the killing of 14 followers of cleric Tahir-ul-Qadri, as Imran Khan kept up pressure insisting on the embattled premier's resignation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Looks like Pakistan is about to undergo yet another military coup.

But, unfortunately, Imran Kahn is absolutely correct about the American government's position on the tin-pot dictatorships it supports.

India, Pakistan intensify cross-border firing as ties sour

Indian and Pakistani troops intensified firing across the border over the weekend killing at least four, an Indian official said on Sunday, straining ties between the arch rivals who recently called off top-level diplomatic talks.

Last week India said its foreign secretary would not meet with her Pakistani counterpart as scheduled on Monday because of plans by Pakistan to consult separatists from the border state of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the meeting.
The cancellation dashed any hopes of near-term peace deliberations, chances of which had risen after Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended the inauguration of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about three months ago.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A war between these nuclear-armed neighbors would be horrific for the region, and possibly lethal for the world, depending upon which countries would be on the side of India, and which would align with Pakistan.

Indian controlled Kashmir, in its entirety, should be given a referendum as to whether it wants to stay with India, or Pakistan, or become an independent country on it own.

Unfortunately, India refuses to let this happen, and Kashmiris are understandably upset by this.

Pakistan Opposition Leader Slams US: "You Like Only Those Governments In Muslim Countries That Are Your Slaves"

It is no secret that of all geopolitical crises in the past 5 years, the US has been the instrumental puppetmaster in virtually all of them: from Libya, to Egypt, to Syria, to Ukraine ("US Revealed As Alleged Mastermind Behind Ukraine Unrest"), even the ISIS insurrection in Iraq whose success would have been impossible without prior US weaponizing of al-Qaeda splinter groups in neighboring Syria. And now it appears the US has found yet another country for its "intelligence services" to alienate. According to go the WSJ, the leader of protests against Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif lashed out at the U.S. Thursday, accusing Washington of interfering in the country's political crisis.

That is about to change when yesterday the Russian central bank announced that having been increasingly shunned by the west, Russia discussed cooperation with Reserve Bank of India Executive Director Shrikant Padmanabhan. Is Bangladesh the Newest Addition to China’s ‘String of Pearls’?

There has been a subtle shift in Narendra Modi’s attitude towards Bangladesh. Although in his pre-election rallies Modi had threatened to drive out the Bangladeshi infiltrators, his foreign minister Sushma Swaraj hardly mentioned the topic during her recently concluded visit to Bangladesh. The reason is very simple. China is now spreading its influence in Bangladesh very fast and India does not want to lose the confidence of Hasina Wazaed, the prime minister of Bangladesh, who is always looked upon in New Delhi as a traditional ally.

Nearly 300,000 suicides in India so far from GMO crop failures

The Western media is steeped in denial about the true damage being caused by genetically modified (GM) crops, especially in the developing Third World. But despite the lies you may have heard from mainstream news sources, nearly 300,000 Indian farmers have committed suicide since 1995 as a direct result of mounting debt and crop failures associated with GMO crops, and mainly cotton crops that were forcibly converted to patented, transgenic varieties owned by Big Biotech.

A report by India's National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) revealed that, between 1995 and 2011, 290,740 farmer suicides had taken place due to economic failure, poverty and bankruptcy caused by GMO adoption. And in the years since that time, for which there is no official data, there have more than likely been thousands of additional suicides, bringing this number to at least 300,000 and possibly higher.

Ukraine conflict: Ground forces 'storming Luhansk'

Government forces in eastern Ukraine have begun storming the rebel-held city of Luhansk with tanks, Russian news agency reports quoting rebels say.

Heavy fighting erupted as columns of government armour attacked from the south and west, rebel military leader Igor Strelkov was quoted as saying.

He said there were unconfirmed reports of special forces landing by helicopter inside the city of 425,000 people.

There was no immediate confirmation from Kiev but bloggers report fighting.

Pro-Russian separatist rebels have been fighting the government in Kiev since declaring independence in Luhansk and the neighbouring region of Donetsk in April.
'Seventy tanks'

"Heavy fighting is under way on the outskirts of Luhansk," Strelkov told Ria-Novosti news agency.

"The enemy has thrown around 70 tanks into the battle in two compact groups of armour. There is as yet unconfirmed information about a helicopter landing of enemy special forces in the city itself."

Webmaster's Commentary:

The number of civilian casualties being created by these military strikes doesn't seem to phase Poroschenko one bit; nor does he seem concerned that the killing of non-combatants is a war crime.

Over 800,000 flee Pakistan anti-militant offensive

More than 800,000 people have fled a major military offensive against the Taliban in a Pakistani tribal area, officials said Wednesday.

Tens of thousands of families have left the North Waziristan tribal area for the nearby town of Bannu.

Hundreds more have moved further afield to the towns of Lakki Marwat, Karak and Dera Ismail Khan since the attacks began in mid-June.

Officials from the FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA) said they were checking registrations for duplicates, meaning the figure may come down.

Some 833,274 people or 66,726 migrating families from North Waziristan were registered in cities of Bannu and Peshawar until Tuesday evening,” Arshad Khan, FDMA director general, told AFP.

Khan said 361,459 of the displaced were children and 248,633 women.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That the Pakistani government cannot do more to protect these helpless women and kids demonstrates an absolute breakdown of governmental capabilities.

Ahead of key vote, Pak's Gilani offers to resign

On what seems to be a an action packed day in Pakistan, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, who offered to resign, hours after being served a contempt notice by the apex Court, is slated to face a confidence vote on Monday.

Today is the vote on a resolution that seeks endorsement and support for "efforts made by the political leadership for strengthening democracy" and calls for reposing "full confidence and trust" in the leadership.

The Supreme Court, meanwhile, has also ordered the PM to appear before the court for failing to pursue long running corruption cases against President Asif Ali Zardari and other officials.
