Libyan torture victim wins right to sue British government in open court

A Libyan exile, who was allegedly tortured with the complicity of the British intelligence services, has won the right to have his case heard in open court, despite government attempts to prevent the case being heard in public.

Abdel Hakim Belhaj, and his wife Fatima Bouchar, accuse the British government of allowing the regime of former Libyan President Muammar Gaddafi to torture them in 2004, with MI6 and former Labour Foreign Secretary Jack Straw complicit in US-led rendition programs.

Remembering The 54th Anniversary Of The Israeli Massacre In Kafr Qasim

On the evening of October 29, 1956 Israeli troops shot and killed 49 unarmed Palestinian civilians in the village of Kafr Qasem, 20 km east of Tel Aviv near the green line.

Now the village has a population of 18,100 Palestinians, some of whom marched today alongside neighboring Arab villages to commemorate those killed 1956. People marched from the village center to the memorial site and placed candles for those killed; village leaders made speeches in commemoration.

Israelis kill Americans with impunity

Like 18-year-old Furkan Dogan, who was murdered aboard the Mavi Marmara, and 23-year-old Rachel Corrie, who was deliberately crushed beneath an Israeli bulldozer, the latest victim – 14-year-old Orwa Hammad – was martyred trying to stop the genocide in Occupied Palestine.

Unlike the 64,937 US soldiers who died useless and pointless deaths in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq, these three brave young people gave their lives for a just and urgent cause. Wherever human beings care about justice, the young American heroes will be remembered. Yet the US mainstream media, which has been stealthily infiltrated by Zionists to the point that it is now a propaganda instrument of the Israeli government, works overtime to cover up the heinous murder of young Americans by Zionist occupation forces.

How Israel is turning Gaza into a super-max prison

Roads, schools and the electricity plant to power water and sewerage systems are in ruins. The cold and wet of winter are approaching. Aid agency Oxfam warns that at the current rate of progress it may take 50 years to rebuild Gaza.

Where else in the world apart from the Palestinian territories would the international community stand by idly as so many people suffer – and not from a random act of God but willed by fellow humans?

The reason for the hold-up is, as ever, Israel’s “security needs”. Gaza can be rebuilt but only to the precise specifications laid down by Israeli officials.

WATCH: Two photographers shot by Israeli rubber bullets in West Bank

Two photographers, including one working for The Associated Press, were struck by rubber-coated bullets fired at close range by an Israeli border policeman.

Neither photographer was seriously hurt in Sunday's incident, which came during protests that followed the funeral of a 14-year-old Palestinian boy killed in a clash with Israeli soldiers.

It was the latest incident in which journalists have been injured by tear gas, stun grenades and rubber bullets fired by border police, a paramilitary unit often sent in to quell violent demonstrations.

Nobel Peace Prize Winners Urge Obama To Release CIA Torture Report

Twelve Nobel Peace Prize winners penned an open letter to President Barack Obama urging his administration to release a U.S. Senate report on the CIA's use of torture.

In the letter, released Sunday night on TheCommunity.com, the laureates asked for "full disclosure to the American people of the extent and use of torture and rendition by American soldiers, operatives, and contractors, as well as the authorization of torture and rendition by American officials." The letter also pushed for a clear plan for the closing of Guantanamo Bay and other international sites where the U.S. has engaged in torture.

The letter was signed by José Ramos-Horta, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, F.W. De Klerk, Leymah Gbowee, Muhammad Yunus, John Hume, Bishop Carlos X. Belo, Betty Williams, Adolfo Perez Esquivel, Jody Williams, Oscar Arias Sanchez and Mohammad ElBaradei.

The laureates spoke out sharply against any use of torture, but said that the U.S.' tactics were particularly troubling.

Webmaster's Commentary:

A short memo to those who signed this petition: what you are asking for will only happen when pigs fly.

At the end of the day, the US President Obama is no less a complete tool of the banks and the corporations which put him into office than was his Republican predecessor.

Banks and corporations love war, because war is profitable. And if it takes torture elicit confessions with which to justify wars, US leadership is certainly not morally opposed to torturing.

We have known, since the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that torture simply gets the tortured person to say what the torturer wants them to say in order to get the torture to stop; it rarely produces actionable intelligence, if at all.

Israel's internment regime

Every so often some smug liberal will ask the annoying question, Where is the Palestinian Gandhi? Why do the Palestinians not try non-violent resistance to Israeli occupation? And so on, in monotonous fashion.

Those same smug liberals do not bother to inform themselves about the basic realities of Israel's West Bank imprisonment regime.

Palestinian activists, human rights defenders, journalists and academics are frequently picked up off the streets, out of their homes in the middle of the night, in front of their families – Israel's thug soldiers take them off to jail and intern them without trial, often in conditions of torture and isolation.

Military courts then rubber-stamp the actions of Israel's military and spy agencies.

Israeli Settlers Burn 100 Olive Trees near Nablus, Multiple Abductions in Gaza, West Bank

WAFA correspondence reports that a number of settlers from the illegal Israeli settlement of ‘Yitzhar’ set fire to around 100 olive trees belonging to the Khamoos and Salim families, said Douglas, who is in charge of the settlements file at the Palestinian Authority, in the northern part of the West Bank.

Confrontations reportedly erupted between settlers and land owners who were harvesting their olive trees at the time; no injuries were reported.

Settlers target Palestinians each year during the olive harvesting season, either by destroying their cops, attacking farmers or by preventing them from accessing their land.

Such attacks are aimed at further disenfranchising and disposessing Palestinians from their land, in order to make way for increasing illegal settlement expansion.

US-Backed Ukraine Army Used Cluster Bombs Against Its Own People: Reports

The Ukraine Army, backed by both the U.S. and NATO throughout its military campaign against rebel factions in eastern regions of the country over recent months, appears to have fired cluster munitions on the city of Donetsk earlier this month, according to a Human Rights Watch investigation and independent reporting by the New York Times.

Citing the HRW report, physical evidence and its own interviews with both witnesses and victims, the Times reports:

Sites where rockets fell in the city on Oct. 2 and Oct. 5 showed clear signs that cluster munitions had been fired from the direction of army-held territory, where misfired artillery rockets still containing cluster bomblets were found by villagers in farm fields.

The two attacks wounded at least six people and killed a Swiss employee of the International Red Cross based in Donetsk.

Mainstream 'Journalist' Reveals Agenda; Calls For Rape, Destruction of Syria

Brandon Turbeville
Activist Post

It is well-known among informed observers and virtually anyone that has even the smallest shred of discernment that mainstream media outlets are nothing more than the mouthpieces for their respective governments, banks, and corporations. These outlets act as a clear propaganda machine drumming up the beat for war by the presentation of clever narratives, subtle falsehoods, and outright lies.

Such deceit relies on the trust of a beguiled public who simply cannot fathom the idea that they are being lied to on such a mass scale. Indeed, the secrecy of the true agenda is what gives propaganda its power. So it is very rare that mainstream outlets, their “journalists,” or other major figures openly state the agenda that is behind their reporting and gives purpose to their every word.

Global Justice or World Domination

Did the war on Yugoslavia mark the beginning of WW3?

snip: The military spending in the world is heading to reach two trillion US dollars. Step by step, the world has entered a new spiral of arms race. Are we going to respond to it by launching initiatives and activating mechanisms to put it to an end, or are we, just like on the eve of the World War I, going to let this race throw all of us once again into the chasm of disaster?

A short period of global partnership is being replaced by an increasing global distrust. Is there any readiness to seek just compromises in resolving outstanding problems and revert to general interests of the humanity, as embodied in peace and progress for all peoples and nations?

Is The US Government The Master Criminal Of Our Time?

UPDATE: As I read this notice from ClinicalTrials.gov, a service of the US National Institutes of Health, the US Government and Pharmaceutical corporations have been conducting ebola tests on humans. http://clinicaltrials.gov/show/NCT02041715

This is official confirmation of Dr. Boyle and Dr. Broderick’s reports that the US government has conducted ebola experiments. Perhaps the vaccine was not effective, and those on whom the experiment was conducted came down with ebola and perhaps also employees in the US bio-warfare laboratories located in Africa where the experiment was conducted.

It appears that the test consists of giving an ebola vaccine and then exposing the unaware person to ebola, apparently an engineered version for bio-warfare. Whatever the tests are, it is clear that Boyle and Broderick in their articles below are correct that experimentation with ebola by the US government is underway.

Obama considers [officially] allowing torture overseas

In Sunday’s report, Savage wrote that Obama, then a US senator, spoke out adamantly against Pres. Bush when it was revealed in 2005 that his administration had been interpreting the UN treaty in a manner that they argued made it acceptable for CIA and Pentagon officials to disregard the prohibitions against torture if they weren’t on American soil.

Obama the president later condemned that reasoning with an executive order “ensuring lawful interrogations,” Savage added, although next month’s meeting may change that.

Paul Craig Roberts: Is The US Government The Master Criminal Of Our Time?

Experts have brought to the public’s attention that ebola is a genetically modified organism developed in US biowarfare laboratories in Africa.

In the two articles below reproduced from Tom Feeley’s Information Clearing House (a good site worthy of your support), Dr. Francis Boyle of the University of Illinois and Dr. Cyril Broderick of the University of Liberia and the University of Delaware provide their fact-based assessments. Dr. Boyle drafted the Biological Weapons Anti-Terrorism Act of 1989, the US implementing legislation for the 1972 Biological Weapons Convention.

For speaking out, both Boyle and Broderick will be viciously attacked by the US print and TV media. Remember the case of Gary Webb who exposed the CIA’s drug-running that supported the Contras in Nicaragua. The cocaine that launched the War on Drugs was brought in by the CIA.

Report Says Only 12% Of U.S. Drone Victims In Pakistan Identified As Militants

On October 11, the United States carried out its 400th drone strike in the tribal areas of Pakistan since the controversial campaign began a decade ago. Since 2004 thousands of people mostly civilians have been killed in such attacks. The US claims that its drone campaign is only against al-Qaeda and other militants. But a new study challenged America’s claims. In its latest study, the Bureau of Investigative Journalism says only 12 percent of drone victims in Pakistan could be identified as militants. The London based organization also says that out of the 12%, only 4 percent have been identified as members of al-Qaeda. Pakistan has repeatedly condemned the U-S drone program as violation of its territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Gitmo force-feeding manual reveals gruesome practices

Last week the U.S. government submitted to the District Court in Washington, D.C., the most recent standard operating procedures (SOPs) for force-feeding in the Guantánamo Bay detention facility. What remains of the documents, after redactions, is a shameful exercise in doublespeak that attempts to disguise what is really happening in the prison.

The SOPs were submitted in a case brought by Abu Wa’el Dhiab, an inmate represented by Reprieve, the international human rights organization that I head. Dhiab is a 43-year-old Syrian and father of four who has been held without trial or charge in Guantánamo for 12 years. The U.S. government told Dhiab four years ago that he was cleared for release, and yet to this day he remains behind bars. In a last resort to get back to his wife and children, he, along with many others, embarked on a hunger strike. His case concerns the manner in which that entirely legitimate hunger strike has been brutally opposed by the prison authorities.

Webmaster's Commentary:

That this is being done to prisoners of war cleared for release, but have not been released, as they are protesting their status through hunger strikes, is horrifically inhumane.

I will tell you the reason many of these men, cleared for release, have not been released, and will not be released: there have been far worse things done to them than waterboarding. As reported at thinkprogress.org, on 9 February, 2009:

Last week, two British High Court judges ruled against releasing documents describing the treatment of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident who is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. The judges said the Bush administration “had threatened to withhold intelligence cooperation with Britain if the information were made public.” But The Daily Telegraph reported over the weekend that the documents actually “contained details of how British intelligence officers supplied information to [Mohamed's] captors and contributed questions while he was brutally tortured.” In fact, it was British officials, not the Americans, who pressured Foreign Secretary David Miliband “to do nothing that would leave serving MI6 officers open to prosecution.” According to the Telegraph’s sources, the documents describe particularly gruesome interrogation tactics: The 25 lines edited out of the court papers contained details of how Mr Mohamed’s genitals were sliced with a scalpel and other torture methods so extreme that waterboarding, the controversial technique of simulated drowning, “is very far down the list of things they did,” the official said. Another source familiar with the case said: “British intelligence officers knew about the torture and didn’t do anything about it.”

FLA: Scores Held Indefinitely; Grandma Prosecuted For Aiding Detainees

... What was and still is going in the DeSoto County Courthouse are plea deal hearings held behind closed doors inside 12th Circuit Judge James S. Parker’s chambers. The public is not allowed. The closed door hearings are being conducted through audio visual and, at times, an inmate is physically taken there to be threatened. If an inmate is offered a plea deal and does not take it then he/she remains in jail until they are offered another deal, months later. The longest time the accused have remained in the DeSoto County Jail is 3 years. My research has revealed the longest time the accused to remain in a county jail is seven years in Miami, Florida. These detainee’s cases are continued without their knowledge or permission and they remain in jail, “incognito” until they are called for the next plea deal hearing. No defenses are being built in 100% of the cases, if you are arrested you are guilty. This system encompasses the entire United States. Because my story has gone out over the internet I now receive letters from all over the country from inmates...that I am not allowed to answer....

Mainstream Media A "No Fly Zone" For Truth

...... Such is the nature of war propaganda. Its purpose is to goad a gullible public, made up of individuals who would, in ordinary circumstances, not desire war and, in virtually all circumstances, have nothing to gain from it, into supporting an unfounded, immoral, and costly military operation against a people who are very similar to themselves.

It is precisely because of this fact that the propaganda must be incessant and continual. With every report drumming up support for US military intervention in Syria and coloring every report of events taking place inside or surrounding the country, there is no article in any mainstream media outlet that does not make a series of unfounded claims and reinforce the propaganda narratives provided by the State Department.

British Parliament sends a message to Obama: the people see Israel as a ‘bully’

Yesterday the British Parliament voted overwhelmingly (274-12) to recognize a Palestinian state, and if you listened to the debate, one theme above all else explains the crushing victory: The British public has been horrified by Gaza and its opinion of Israel has shifted. Even Conservative members of Parliament cited pressure from the public. As Labour’s Andy Slaughter said, Britain has witnessed a new “barbarism”:

I think that the British people have been on the same sort of the journey as the right hon. Member for Croydon South [Conservative Sir Richard Ottaway] described—it is certainly true of the Labour movement—from being very sympathetic to Israel as a country that was trying to achieve democracy and was embattled, to seeing it now as a bully and a regional superpower. That is not something I say with any pleasure, but since the triumph of military Zionism and the Likud-run Governments we have seen a new barbarism in that country.

The United States is No. 1 – but in what?

American politicians are fond of telling their audiences that the United States is the greatest country in the world. Is there any evidence for this claim?

Well, yes. When it comes to violence and preparations for violence, the United States is, indeed, No. 1. In 2013, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute, the U.S. government accounted for 37 percent of world military expenditures, putting it far ahead of all other nations. (The two closest competitors, China and Russia, accounted for 11 percent and 5 percent respectively.) From 2004 to 2013, the United States was also the No. 1 weapons exporter in the world. Moreover, given the U.S. government’s almost continuous series of wars and acts of military intervention since 1941, it seems likely that it surpasses all rivals when it comes to international violence.

7 Reasons To Doubt Latest "Holocaust" Claims Against Assad

Brandon Turbeville
Activist Post

As the United States and its NATO allies openly eye the possibility of establishing a “buffer zone” and/or a “no-fly zone” inside Syria, a volley of media reports alleging yet more “crimes against humanity” by Bashar Al-Assad are emerging in the mainstream news.

Coming at just the right time to ignite outrage and indignation in the dazed American public, as virtually every other report and “incident” in Syria has attempted to do since 2010, an alleged “Syrian defector” has allegedly provided thousands of photographs revealing what mainstream propagandists are calling a “smoking gun” of Assad’s humanitarian crimes...

The US soldier who killed herself after refusing to torture

More than a decade ago, when I was the editor of Editor & Publisher, I was, as far as I know, the first writer with a national platform who regularly drew attention to the then largely-hidden tragedy of the rising rate of suicides among American troops in Iraq and Afghanistan--and then after they return home.

Despite the decline in fighting in those two theaters for many years, that suicide rate remains at very high or record levels. Last year there was this troubling report.

I have written about dozens of sad, tragic, individual cases. But one of the saddest of all concerns a young soldier who died eleven years ago last month. Appalled when ordered to take part in interrogations that, no doubt, involved what most would call torture -- another wrong turn by the United States following 9/11 -- Alyssa Peterson refused, then killed herself a few days later, on September 15, 2003.

Major Coal Mine Shelled in Southeastern Ukraine: Energy Company

KIEV, October 14 (RIA Novosti) – A major coal mine has been shelled in southeastern Ukraine for four days in a row, the department of public relations of the DTEK energy company said in a statement Tuesday.

"The [DTEK Komsomolets Donbassa] mine has been shelled for four days already. From tanks, artillery weapons and mortars," the statement said, adding that miners took shelter in "defensive structures" as "massive shelling" occurred.

Miners cannot resume their work amid constant shelling, DTEK stressed. If the thermal power stations that DTEK supplies, especially the Kryvorizka TPP and the Prydniprovska TPP, are left without coal, the entire Dnipropetrovsk region, and several neighboring regions, could be left without electricity.

The Ringworm Scandal: When Israeli Doctors Killed Tens of Thousands of Arab Children

The 2004 documentary, The Ringworm Children, presents the historical context of this immigration and is dedicated to the greatest national medical scandal in the state’s history. During this early period, Israel looked with deep suspicion on the Arab olim. They were viewed not only as culturally inferior, but as reservoirs of disease. To be fair, these same views had been prominent in the U.S. during the heights of immigration to this country.

Norwegian Dr Gilbert on the Israeli attack on Gaza (2014)

What can now be said about the massive Israeli attacks on Gaza the summer of 2014? The Norwegian medical doctor Mads Gilbert was there. In this 10-minute interview/essay by Truls Lie of Le Monde diplomatique (Scandinavia), Dr. Gilbert contemplates the attacks, what it means to be defined "a terrorist", the people he met at Al-Shifa hospital, and why peace for all has to begin with Israel ending the occupation and suppression of the Palestinian people – and lift the siege of Gaza.

In a response to the civil rights organization Hamoked Center for the Defense of the Individual, the IDF did not specify the items that were seized or what was done with them. Israeli minister: World may be wasting its money on Gaza

The countries who pledged vast sums to rebuild the Gaza Strip in Cairo Sunday will have made worthless donations if the people of the Gaza Strip return to terror, Transportation Minister Israel Katz said Sunday.

Katz, who is one of the ministers closest to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, issued the warning at a gathering of some 2000 Likud activists outside his Sukka on his ranch on the Moshav Kfar Ahim in the northern Negev.

"The Gazans must decide what they want to be Singapore or Darfur [which rhymes in Hebrew]," Katz said. "They can pick between economic recovery and war and destruction. If they choose terror, the world should not waste its money. If one missile will be fired, everything will go down the drain."

Kiev secretly received data from MH17 crash investigators

Ukrainian CyberBerkut hacktivists claim that they have penetrated the internal network of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry and found proof that Kiev is getting secret data from MH17 crash investigators, including information which implies its involvement.

A document, posted on the website cyber-berkut.net, and allegedly downloaded from Ukraine’s Defense Ministry network, dates back to August 7 and appears to be signed by Colonel Igor Zorin, the chief of Ukraine’s air defense forces. It is a report which maintains that a fragment of a projectile found together with the debris of the crashed flight MH17 is in fact a damage agent of a 9M38 surface-to-air guided missile belonging to the mobile air defense complex Buk or Buk M1.

THE TRAGEDY OF MODERN DEMOCRACY

Once in power, modern democratic governments behave little differently than many authoritarian states do. Wars are started without consent and for purposes not in the public interest. Secret services carry out acts government would be ashamed to be seen openly doing. Armies for needless wars are conscripted or bribed into existence. Rights people regarded as basic may be suspended at any time. Injustices abound. Many “democratic” states practice illegal arrest, torture, assassination, and, above all, secrecy. Secrecy is so much a part of things today that when citizens do vote, they haven’t the least idea what they are voting for.

Roberts vows to ‘shut down the Senate’ if Obama empties Gitmo

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) on Friday vowed to block all legislation in the Senate with a prolonged filibuster if President Obama tries to transfer detainees from Guantanamo Bay to the United States.

A day after Tea Party hero Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) campaigned with him in Wichita, Roberts threatened to wage a marathon talk session similar to the one Cruz held last year to protest the implementation of ObamaCare.

“I stopped him once from trying to send a Gitmo terrorist to Leavenworth. I shall do it again, I shall do it again and if he tries it again I will shut down the Senate,” Roberts said, referring to the military prison located sixty miles east of his campaign headquarters in Topeka where he spoke to campaign volunteers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Here's the deal.

As reported at defenseone.com in June of this year:

Here are the facts about the status of the detainees at Gitmo. The administration has already cleared 78 of the 149 remaining prisoners for transfer. Having never been charged with a crime, these detainees have since been deemed to pose no national security threat by defense and intelligence officials and could be set for departure at any time.

So over what precisely does Senator Roberts have his knickers in a twist about?!?

IS it perhaps that water-boarding is not the worst thing that was done to them to get them to confess, in the very midieval US-created, or sponsored torture?!?

Is it perhaps that moral questions would be asked, about why the Bush administration encouraged torture, when it has been known, since the Catholic Inquisition, that torture only gets the tortured person to say just what his torturer wants to hear to get the torture to stop?!?

In a report from thinkprogress.org,dated 9 February, 2009, the following was reported to have been done to Binyam Mohamed, a British resident:

Source: Think Progress Gitmo Detainee’s ‘Genitals Were Sliced With A Scalpel,’ Waterboarding ‘Far Down The List Of Things They Did’ Last week, two British High Court judges ruled against releasing documents describing the treatment of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident who is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. The judges said the Bush administration “had threatened to withhold intelligence cooperation with Britain if the information were made public.” But The Daily Telegraph reported over the weekend that the documents actually “contained details of how British intelligence officers supplied information to (Mohamed’s) captors and contributed questions while he was brutally tortured.” In fact, it was British officials, not the Americans, who pressured Foreign Secretary David Miliband “to do nothing that would leave serving MI6 officers open to prosecution.” According to the Telegraph’s sources, the documents describe particularly gruesome interrogation tactics: The 25 lines edited out of the court papers contained details of how Mr Mohamed’s genitals were sliced with a scalpel and other torture methods so extreme that waterboarding, the controversial technique of simulated drowning, “is very far down the list of things they did,” the official said. Another source familiar with the case said: “British intelligence officers knew about the torture and didn’t do anything about it.”

I would really like to press Senator Roberts about how justified he beleived this treatment was of this man, and if he would be willing to undergo such a procedure to see for himself just how it feels.

The use of torture by the US government (or outsourced to another government) does two things.

First, it lets the world know that those values US politicians love to publicly embrace, like justice, human rights, and democracy, are not observed here in the slightest, when it comes to prisoners of war.

Secondly, it gives carte blanch to those countries which do not very much like the US to torture both US civilians and our millitary.

Those with family and friends in the military, please chew on that last one for awhile.

CIA didn't know it had Senate 'torture' report

It's a report that's been the talk of Washington's intelligence community for months, yet lawyers for the nation's premier intelligence agency — the CIA — improbably maintained it didn't have a copy.

That claim evaporated Tuesday as a Justice Department lawyer said the government was wrong when it told a federal judge that the Central Intelligence Agency did not have a copy of the unabridged version of a Senate committee report on treatment of detainees. In fact, the CIA does have a copy of the 6,300-page report, DOJ attorney Vesper Mei said.

"There was a miscommunication over at the agency as to what we were looking for," Mei told U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg at a court session Tuesday. "They didn't realize that they had it."

Webmaster's Commentary:

"MISCOMMUNICATION", MY ASTROLABE!!!

‘Obama to be remembered as someone who betrayed his supporters’

President Obama has turned out to be another failed big government president, who put America into a new war, spied on its own citizens, and made a disastrous health care reform, Executive Director of the Libertarian Party Carla Howell told RT.

RT: The US strikes on ISIS have already cost it around $780-930 million, which is not pleasant news for the American taxpayers but makes a profit for the industries involved. Does President Obama even know about discontent among his citizens?

Carla Howell: I’m sure he is fully informed; he has got an enormous staff to keep him informed of what is going on. Clearly, what he is trying to do is take credit for ending the war in Iraq, and yet at the same time he is beholden to the military industrial complex in America, their special interests, that want more military funding regardless of whether our Generals even want it or not. So he is trying to walk that line.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This President has been an epic fail on everything in which he has intervened.

On immigration; wars in the Middle East; Obamacare; Ebolagate; IRSgate, APgate, and NSAgate, he continues to to undercut working Americans, and makes life worse for most American people.

But you have to understand that such behaviour is completely predictable for a man beholden to the large corporations (including the banks) which have funded the election cycles in which he was (allegedly) elected and re-elected.

Large corporations love illegal immigration, because it cuts the cost of doing business; large corporations love wars, because wars mean profit, for so many companies; and large pharmaceutical corporations love illness, because treatments - rather than cures - are far more profitable.

His faux populism is just an act, and not a terribly convincing act at that; no more, no less.

At the end of the day, this man is a slave to all those who put him in power for one reason, and one reason only; profit.

And he has, and continues, to deliver that for them.

Netanyahu: Postpone Probe Into Attacks on UN Facilities in Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got into a heated argument with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Tuesday night, according to Israeli officials, over the planned UN investigation into Israel attacking UN sites in the Gaza Strip.

Netanyahu had demanded Ban postpone the probe into the attacks indefinitely, pending Israel releasing its own inquiry results. He also accused Ban of “discriminating” against Israel by wanting to probe the attacks on UN sites full of civilians at all.

US wants Guantanamo force-feeding hearing to stay secret

Attorneys for the United States government say that an upcoming court hearing concerning the force-feeding practices used on a Guantanamo Bay detainee should be held almost entirely behind closed doors.

The motion, filed by US attorneys on Friday in District Court for the District of Columbia, asks that the preliminary injunction hearing for Gitmo detainee Abu Wa’el Dhiab scheduled for early next month be conducted largely in secret over supposed national security concerns.

“As an initial matter, the hearing should be closed in order to prevent any unauthorized disclosure of classified or protected information,” the motion reads in part. “Furthermore, the hearing should be closed because, although portions of the materials in the record in this case are unclassified, conducting an open hearing in this case would impose significant burdens on the parties and the Court.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

There are NO valid "national security concerns" only "deep embarrassment concerns."

Anyone whose doctor has prescribed this process in their convalescence from an illness understands that even in the most competent and compassionate hands, it is still uncomfortable as hell.

To use this as a punishment for a hunger strike (as it has been primarily practiced at Gitmo, in a restraint chair) is both immoral and inhumane.

I would very strongly suggest that this is being done to prevent these hunger strikers from dying to prevent autopsies being leaked, which may well show the extent to which these men had been tortured in order to get them to confess to whatever their torturers wanted to hear.

Senate Torture Report Vanishes

Since a “forgive and forget” forward-looking White House has already indicated that no one will ever be punished for illegal actions undertaken in the wake of 9/11, why is the torture issue important beyond the prima facie case that a war crime that was authorized by the highest levels of the federal government? It is important because of its constitutional implications and its impact on rule of law in the United States, which is again being flouted by the Administration in its rush to “destroy” ISIS, which is little more than a terrorist group du jour being exploited to terrify the American public. The constitutional issue, in its simplest terms, is that the CIA works for the president and when it operates without legally mandated oversight by the legislative branch and judiciary it does so in defiance of separation of powers, making the Agency little better than a secret army run by POTUS.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This stinks to high heaven; and until and unless this is released, and the accusations of real torture are addressed to their root, the country of the United States of America has absolutely no moral authority whatsoever, period, end of discussion.

CIA 'tortured al-Qaeda suspects close to the point of death by drowning them in water-filled baths'

The CIA brought top al-Qaeda suspects close “to the point of death” by drowning them in water-filled baths during interrogation sessions in the years that followed the September 11 attacks, a security source has told The Telegraph.

The description of the torture meted out to at least two leading al-Qaeda suspects, including the alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, far exceeds the conventional understanding of waterboarding, or “simulated drowning” so far admitted by the CIA.

Webmaster's Commentary:

1/3 of the people being held at Guantanamo have been cleared for release by the military tribunal in charge of their cases. Yet they are not being released. The most likely reason is that worse things were done to them than waterboarding and the US Government dares not let them into the public for fear of what they will say and what scars their bodies carry.

Up to 2,100 Photos of US Soldiers Abusing Prisoners May Soon Be Released

Would the release of 10-year-old detainee abuse photographs, such as one depicting US soldiers pointing a broom handle at a hooded detainee's rectum, incite terrorist organizations and threaten national security?

That's a question government attorneys will have to answer next week when they explain to a federal court judge why as many as 2,100 unclassified photos of US soldiers abusing Iraqi and Afghan captives should continue to be concealed from the public.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The American taxpaying public deserves the right to know precisely what their money bought, and the governmental culture of evil which supported this torture so that it bloody never, ever is allowed to happen again in the US's military chain of command.

We have known since the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that torture is simply about getting the tortured individual to confess to specific charges, just to get the torture to stop. It is rarely about actionable intelligence.

One of the best interregators in World War II was a guy named Hanns Scharff. As reported at knowledenuts.com:

Scharff was the friendliest interrogator of World War II. Fluent in English, Scharff grilled pilots who were shot down over Germany. Unlike the notorious Barbie, Scharff had a much more positive approach to interrogations. This Luftwaffe officer was a master of mind games. Before he quizzed a prisoner at the Dulag Luft camp, Scharff dug up as much background information on his subjects as possible. Even if he could only find basic info, he fooled prisoners into thinking he already knew all about their objectives. Since he was already aware of their activities, they might as well talk about them, right? Next, Scharff disarmed his prisoners by becoming their best bud. He often took them on trips to the local zoo, and he even let one prisoner take a ride in a German plane. After building a rapport with a POW, Scharff would take him on walks through the Oberursel forest. Together, the Nazi and the Allied pilot would stroll through the pine trees, observing the birds and chatting about America or England. The whole time, Scharff was listening for little slip-ups that would reveal information vital to the German war machine. Prisoners might inadvertently mention something about bomb sights or causally say something about operational plans. They might tell a story about their training or talk about the planes they used to fly. Scharff was such a smooth talker, such a friendly guy, that the prisoners had no idea they were being conned. They were just glad they weren’t being electrocuted. Many of them signed his guestbook before leaving the camp. In fact, after the war, he was invited to many POW reunions because he was such a gentleman.

But the instigators of this cultural climate condoning torture is that unholy trio of Bush, Rusmfeld, and Cheney. Instead of living comfortably, as though they had done nothing wrong by signing off of these practices, they should be cooling their heels at the International Court of Justice in the Hague, charged with war crimes for what they allowed to happen.

Unfortunately, that will not take place until pigs fly, because President Obama is highly complict through his "looking forward, not looking back" stance on this moral nightmare into which the Bush admnistration plunged this nation.

In taking this stand, he demonstrated, clearly and unoquivically, that in terms of having any kind of morality whatsoever, he has none.

So yes, these pictures are necessary for the American public to see what price prisoners of war paid in pain, suffering, and death, in the midieval practice of extracting "confessions" their handlers wanted to hear.

In fact, because the American people believe themselves to be a moral people, they need to have their noses collectively rubbed in the immorality of these practices, and figure out how in heaven's name they elected a government so completely comfortable with inflicting horrific pain on POWS, many of whom were simply at the absolutely wrong place at the absolutely wrong time, or got "sold" into American captivity for a bounty.

This is the reason so many Gitmo prisoners of war, who have never been charged with any crimes, will never, ever be released; their bodies bear witness to the unbelievable physical abuse they have endured...frequently for nothing other than the pleasure derrived by the people who tortured them.

Perpetual war, indefinite detention, and torture: The U.S. and Israel’s shared values

The United States and Israel have "shared values" but not when it comes to upholding democracy and the rule of law. Their shared values are perpetual war, torture, indefinite detention, and military courts. Guantanamo is a perfect example of this. Both states have been in a state of perpetual war for quite some time with Israel against the Palestinians since its founding in 1948 while the U.S. can trace back its war to its founding in 1776 and the colonization of Native American lands. Today's global war on terror is the latest chapter in that saga. Under perpetual war, the United States and Israel can justify a litany of draconian policies, such as indefinite detention, torture, and extrajudicial killing.

Cable collaborator: BT accused of aiding US drone strikes

The British government has been asked to investigate whether the country’s major provider of telecommunications networks and services, BT, is aiding US drone strikes.

According to a complaint filed by the charity group Reprieve, BT has built a military internet cable connecting US air force facilities in Northamptonshire to a base for unmanned craft in Djibouti on the Horn of Africa.

The human rights group alleges that the $23 million (£13 million) fiber-optic circuit built by BT in 2012 was installed to facilitate air strikes in Yemen and Somalia by US Air Force drones.

In Senate-CIA fight on interrogation report, another controversy

The background of a key negotiator in the battle over a Senate report on the CIA’s use of interrogation techniques widely denounced as torture has sparked concerns about the Obama administration’s objectivity in handling the study’s public release.

Robert Litt, the general counsel for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, is a former defense lawyer who represented several CIA officials in matters relating to the agency’s detention and interrogation program. Now he’s in a key position to determine what parts of the Senate Intelligence Committee’s 6,300-page report will be made public.

Litt’s involvement doesn’t appear to be an ethics issue, at least by the legal definition. But experts say that while it may be acceptable on paper, his involvement in the review should have been a red flag.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The entire report should be released, completely unredacted, so that Americans know just precisely what was done to these prisoners of war.

Of course, that will happen when pigs fly.

Gaza Under Siege: Israel Destroys Hospitals, Denies Entry to Doctors and Medical Aid

Dr. Swee Ang Chai: All the authors and signatories fear the worse at the beginning of this crisis which erupted in early July based on their previous experience. However the situation has got much worse since the publication of the letter. Gaza has already been declared a disaster area by the UK government. Despite the destruction of infrastructure, doctors and healthcare workers in Gaza continued to work despite severe conditions and their personal circumstances. Their own homes are being destroyed and families killed, and to be landed with more than 12,000 wounded is simply overwhelming for any medical system. That this is why Swee and her surgical colleagues wanted to assist by volunteering to go to Gaza.. As of yesterday (22 August 2014) the death toll reached 2083, with 50% women and children. Eighty five families were annihilated, and 12,656 injured.

Things cannot stay the same after Israeli genocide in Gaza

After every bloody episode of violence perpetrated by Israel, media spin doctors are often deployed with one grand mission: to absolve Israel of any responsibility in their acts of carnage.

Not only do these apologists demonize Palestinians, but anyone who dares to take a stand on their behalf. The main staple of this Israeli strategy has been blaming the victim. Such a tactic is nothing new in the way the so-called "Arab-Israeli conflict" has been presented in Western media, whose narrative has been much closer to that of Israeli official and media discourses than that of Palestinians. This continued despite the decades-long military occupation, successive wars, and countless massacres.

ISRAEL IS KILLING THE FAMILY OF JESUS

So here is the deal. Some of the people walking around Palestine, Gaza, and the West Bank are blood relatives of Jesus. Distant blood relatives, but still blood relatives. Given 2000 years, it is possible that the vast majority of present day Palestinians are remote relatives of Jesus.

Israel is killing them.

And YOU are paying for it, which means you share the guilt. YOU are paying for the weapons used to kill the modern day family of Jesus. The moment you sign that 1040 form, you sign a confession, admitting before all the world that you are an accessory in the murder.

Think you are going to get into heaven after an insult like that?

Webmaster's Commentary:

By using your money to buy weapons for Israel's war crimes, the US Government has made you all accessories to those war crimes. And you cannot get off the hook by saying, "I am only obeying the government." The Nuremberg trials at the end of WW2 established the principle that simply following the orders of your superiors does not exonerate you of guilt. Only by openly opposing Israel's war crimes will history regard you as blameless for what is being done to Gaza.

Pentagon Hands Lucrative Guantanamo Bay Deal to Notorious Private Security Company g4s

A British private security company that has been accused of numerous human rights violations has been handed a $118 million deal by the Pentagon to provide "operating support services" for the Guantanamo Bay naval base that houses the U.S. military's notorious prison.

The Department of Defense announced earlier this week that G4S has been granted the contract to provide services that include "family housing, facility management, facility investment, other (swimming pools), custodial, pest control, integrated solid waste management, grounds maintenance and landscaping, base support vehicles and equipment, electrical, wastewater, water, and limited facilities support functions." The statement did not mention any duties relating to the Guantanamo Bay prison, which currently holds 149 men without charge or trial.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Hey, we HAD to contract these services out to a firm which embraces human rights violations; otherwise, the contract just wouldn't have worked out!! (Official DOD Souse)

But seriously, this company's penchant for violently handling prisoners is well-documented. As reported at huffingtonpost.com on 29 April, 2014:

More than 100 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons launched a mass hunger strike last week against Israel's policy of administrative detention, a draconian practice whereby Palestinians are detained on "secret evidence" and without being charged. According to Randa Kamel, an advocacy officer for Addameer, a group that monitors Israel's arrests and imprisonment of Palestinians, many of these hunger strikers are being held in prisons using surveillance and security equipment provided by the controversial British security firm G4S. Earlier this month, Palestinian human rights organizations launched a campaign calling on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to divest from G4S, which they say is "at the heart of [Israel's prison] system, installing and running security systems at Israeli jails." Across the Israeli-occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, G4S also provides security services at many Israeli military checkpoints that control Palestinian movement. The petition is being spearheaded by Addameer and the Palestine Boycott Divestment and Sanctions National Committee. It was also endorsed by an additional 121 Palestinian and international organizations. The Gates Foundation is a global development organization that works in the areas of global health, global development, and betterment in the United States. Despite its public record as a force for global betterment, the Gates Foundation solicited widespread criticism when it purchased $172 million in G4S shares.

Israel furious as UN Human Rights Council unveils Gaza probe team

Israel lashed out on Tuesday after the UN Human Rights Council named the man who will be running an inquiry into its Gaza offensive.

Canadian international lawyer William Schabas, who will head the commission, is widely regarded in Israel as being hostile to the Jewish state over reported calls to bring Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the International Criminal Court.

“This commission’s anti-Israeli conclusions have already been written, all it needs is a signature,” railed foreign ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor.

“For this commission the important thing is not human rights but the rights of terrorist organisations like Hamas,” he told AFP.

But in a series of interviews with the Israeli media, Schabas defended himself against allegations of bias against the Jewish state.

Webmaster's Commentary:

For all the dead and maimed innocent Palestinians, ISRAEL HAS ONLY ITSELF TO BLAME.

And to paraphrase General Sheridan's horrific statement that "The only good Indian is a dead Indian", for many in the Knesset and the IDF, "the only good Palestinian is a dead Palestinian."

Then they work like crazy to make death the most certain outcome for as many innocent Palestinians as they can, and get upset when the international community calls them on it?!?

Sorry, Israeli leadership; those crocodile tears have been turned on once too often in the 21st century for them to have any real effect.

Israeli army uses Gaza children as human shields

Since the assault on Gaza began, Israeli leaders and their supporters have repeatedly accused Hamas of using Palestinian civilians as human shields in an attempt to absolve Israel of responsibility for deliberately killing more than 1,600 Palestinian civilians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Despite there being no evidence to prove this libelous claim, it has been unquestioningly echoed in major media outlets and invoked by US officials to blame Palestinians for their own slaughter. It has even been used to justify genocide against Palestinians in a newspaper ad created by anti-Palestinian extremists Shmuley Boteach and Elie Wiesel.

But the available evidence demonstrates that it is the Israeli army, not Hamas, that has been using Palestinians as human shields in Gaza.

IDF-Embedded Reporter Says It Fired Guided Missile at UNWRA School, Killing 15 Civilians

An Israeli reporter for Maariv, Aviram Zino, has been embedded with an IDF unit during the current invasion. Noam R writes in his Israeli political blog about Zino’s fawning enthusiastic response to being given the chance of a lifetime to be a reporter in the middle of the “action.” His reporting comes across as cheerleading rather than objective journalism. But in spite of himself, Zino reveals a damning fact that impeaches the IDF’s credibility regarding its denial of deliberately targeting UN buildings housing Palestinian civilian refugees.

Zino reports that the unit commander, Nadav, ordered the firing of a $100,000 Tamuz (aka Spike) heat-seeking anti-tank missile on a UNWRA school in Beit Hanoun on July 24th:

"We Tortured Some Folks" and We Will Do Nothing About It

Someone's gonna have to fuckin' explain this to the Rude Pundit. Someone's gonna have to fuckin' explain how Barack Obama, the President of this damn nation, can go before the press, the TV cameras, the world, and declare, "[I]n the immediate aftermath of 9/11 we did some things that were wrong...we tortured some folks" and not follow that up with "And we're going to prosecute those who did it and those who ordered it."

Aug 05 07:11

THE POINT OF NO RETURN

The people of the United States stand at that point right now. That the US Government is using torture on POWs (just as Hitler did) is beyond argument. One can either stand up and denounce that torture and demand the firing of all who took part in it (and the end of the war), or one is by default complicit, an accessory after the fact, seen by all to condone such barbarism.

Anyone who steps across that line is trapped. Unable to look at what they themselves have become they will refuse to look at what the government has become, indeed will create or accept any justification, no matter how thin and transparent, rather than question that government. And indeed this web site gets email from people who have already crossed that point, and are trying to explain why torture is really necessary "this time".

'Texas Stands with Gaza' rally draws thousands to Capitol

"Texas Stands with Gaza" -- it's a declaration that was also the name of Saturday's rally at the State Capitol attended by thousands who later marched down Congress to City Hall.

"From here at the Capitol building to City Hall with our signs and with our voices to tell the world that we are not complicit with Israel's massacres in Gaza," said organizer Ahmad Kaaki.

Aya Ayaquvi and her husband Monther Abusultan moved from Gaza a couple of years ago.

"It was really hard. We expected anytime to be killed there," she said.

Just weeks ago, Aya learned her pregnant sister Sumar was killed in an air strike along with her children and other family members in the center of the Gaza Strip.

"It's supposed to be the safest place but they were killed in an air strike. They didn't do anything, they were innocent. They didn't receive any warning before they were killed. I don't know what's happening there. They just want to kill people," Ayaquvi said.

Britain 'attempts to censor' US report on torture sites

The government stands accused of seeking to conceal Britain's role in extraordinary rendition, ahead of the release of a declassified intelligence report that exposes the use of torture at US secret prisons around the world.

The Senate report on the CIA's interrogation programme, due to be released in days, will confirm that the US tortured terrorist suspects after 9/11. In advance of the release, Barack Obama admitted on Friday: "We tortured some folks. We did some things that were contrary to our values."

US Senator Defends CIA Interrogation, Torture Techniques

The CIA’s harsh interrogation and torture techniques banned after President Barack Obama took office in 2009 helped foil a number of terrorist plots and capture terrorists, including Osama bin Laden, a senior Republican on the Senate Intelligence Committee said Sunday.

CIA Torture Was Unnecessary, Senate Report To Conclude

A U.S. Senate committee report will conclude that the CIA's use of harsh interrogation after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks yielded no critical intelligence on terrorist plots that could not have been obtained through non-coercive methods, U.S. officials familiar with the document said.

Foreshadowing the impending release of a report expected to suggest that the "enhanced" techniques were unnecessary and also to accuse some CIA officers of misleading Congress about the effectiveness of the program, President Barack Obama said on Friday that the CIA "tortured some folks." He had banned the practices soon after taking office in 2009.

Officials said the Senate Intelligence Committee was unlikely to release the report to the public without some additional review.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This report will most likely NEVER see the light of day.

Humankind has known, since the Catholic Inquisition, that torture simply gets the tortured person to say whatever their torturer wants them to say to get the torture to stop.

And those who "get off" on this one way or another (even from a standpoint of ordering/ allowing it to be done)are deeply psychologically disturbed individuals who need immediate, and possibly, involuntary mental evaluation.

That Obama would not allow the unholy trinity whose faces appear at the top of this article to be tried for torture indicates that the US government is immoral, illegitimate, and cannot be trusted in any way.

Foreign Affairs Minister Baird under fire for Hamas comments

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has come under fire from Human Rights Watch over comments that “Hamas will be solely to blame for any further loss of life” after a Gaza ceasefire quickly unravelled Friday. In a statement , Mr. Baird said Hamas had violated the ceasefire and that Israel was forced to defend itself. “Hamas has lost all credibility, and we must continue to work to isolate this terrorist organization that values death over peace,” Mr. Baird said.

Human Rights Watch issued its own statement, saying Mr. Baird’s comments amounted to a “green light for more unlawful Israeli attacks that kill civilians.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

Israel broke the cease fire 9 minutes after it started with a missile attack into Gaza. The soldiers "decommissioning" a tunnel inside Gaza were another violation. That Baird is unaware of this only proves his incompetence at his job.

In remarks made during a White House briefing on Friday, President Obama summarized the history of CIA abusive practices in the wake of the 9/11 attacks by asking people to remember "how afraid people" were at the time after he acknowledged plainly, "We tortured some folks."

The comments come amid growing anticipation and new controversy surrounding the upcoming—though only partial and highly redacted—findings of a Senate investigation into CIA abuses during the Bush years.

"I have full confidence in John Brennan," Obama said in response to questions by reporters who noted that leading Senators in his own party have called for the CIA chief's resignation over admissions that his agency did, in fact, spy on the investigative panel tasked to explore CIA torture practices following September 11th, 2001 and during the crucial leadup to the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

Hamas not complicit in teens’ kidnap: Israeli police

The Israeli Police Foreign Press Spokesman, Micky Rosenfeld, appears to have falsified the Israeli government’s claim that Hamas was responsible for the killing of three Israeli settler teens in June, by saying responsibility lies with a lone cell that operated without the complicity of Hamas’ leadership.

The kidnapping and subsequent killing of three Israeli settler teens last month is considered to be a flashpoint for the escalated violence in Gaza -- that as of day 19 of the conflict has left 926 Palestinians, mostly civilians, dead.

At the time Israeli authorities placed the blame squarely on Hamas, with Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu saying "They were kidnapped and murdered in cold blood by animals in human form. Hamas is responsible and Hamas will pay."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Let's review the timetable.

Last month, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and killed in an IDF-controlled region of the West Bank, not Gaza. ISIS has taken credit and even the Israeli media admits that the two suspects named by the Israeli government are not part of HAMAS, but of a group known for disobeying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble for them.

But Netanyahu declares HAMAS, the legally elected government of Gaza, responsible and launches bombing raids into Gaza using the very latest high-tech weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers.

To put Israel's actions into perspective, let us recall that over the July 4th weekend, 8 people were killed in Chicago. Using Netanyahu's logic, the Democratic party should be blamed and all of Illinois bombed and invaded!

The Palestinians, who have been attacked without provocation, fight back with their home-made rockets, which so far have mostly knocked a few roof tiles loose.

But to Israel's supporters, we should all forget that Israel attacked Gaza without a valid reason, and view Palestine's attempts to defend themselves as the crime, so that Israel can go on pounding the Palestinians with their superior weapons.

I want to point something out. The Israelis sit in their tanks, or the drone operations centers, or fly high above Gaza in their US-supplied warplanes, dropping the latest in US-supplied high tech lethal munitions, and imagine themselves the heroes they read about in the Torah. The Israelis, clearly unafraid of HAMAS rockets, line the hills overlooking Gaza and cheer the carnage, much as the Romans at the Colosseum cheered as the Christians were thrown to the lions. The Palestinians huddle in their giant open-air prison, without an army, a navy, or an air force, and fight back with home-made rockets made out of plumbing supplies.

Not since Thermopylae has the world seen such courage in the face of overwhelming odds. The Palestinians have balls the US and Israel can only dream of, and the world will remember their courage against the tyrants, and the lies by the corporate media's presstitutes and whorespondents trying to protect Israel's aggression!

Federal Judge Says U.S. Government Can Steal Unlimited Money From Anyone At Any Time Under The U.S. Patriot Act – 27 July 2014

He was held at Guantanamo Baby for more than 10 years without being charged before being released to his home country Dec. 5, 2013. He had opposed transfer to Algeria, because he feared persecution there, according to court papers.

The Pentagon, however, refused to return his money, based on what government lawyers claimed to be a policy “based on a strong national security interest in preventing these funds from being used in a manner that would adversely impact the safety and security of the United States.” The justification was drawn from provisions in the USA Patriot Act, reports said.

Some human rights groups have argued that the policy constitutes a “war crime,” specifically in that it is in violation of an international prohibition of wartime “pillage,” according to Vice News.

Survivors of massacre in Khuza’a say Israeli forces used Palestinians as human shields

Ayman Abu Toaimah, 32, a resident of Khuza’a recalls, “As Israeli invading troops advanced to the village they besieged it and used residents as human shields. When the Israeli army arrested people and then released some of them, they were told they are free to go back to the village, but as they were fleeing they came under fire and some of them shot dead. These people were used as human shields.”

Abu Saleem, 56, a resident of Khuza’a echoed Abu Toaimah, “Israelis claim that Hamas is using us as human shields– how? This is a lie, we do not see fighters in the streets. It’s them, the Israelis who used us as human shields in Khuza’a and Shuja’iyeh. They turned our houses into military posts, terrified residents in the houses. Ex-Chief of C.I.A. Shapes Response to Detention Report

Over the past several months, Mr. Tenet has quietly engineered a counterattack against the Senate committee’s voluminous report, which could become public next month. The effort to discredit the report has set up a three-way showdown among former C.I.A. officials who believe history has been distorted, a White House carefully managing the process and politics of declassifying the document, and Senate Democrats convinced that the Obama administration is trying to protect the C.I.A. at all costs.

The report is expected to accuse a number of former C.I.A. officials of misleading Congress and the White House about the program and its effectiveness, but it is Mr. Tenet who might have the most at stake.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The people who engineered this torture program should not have the luxury of living comfortably, writing their memoirs; they should be cooling their heels at the International Court of Justice at the Hague, awaiting trials for war crimes.

Humankind has known, from the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that torture only makes the tortured individual confess to anything their torturers want to hear to get the torture to stop. Torture does not produce actionable intelligence, is immoral, and should be illegal.

Because when the US tortures, or outsources torture, it gives carte blanche to any foreign government to torture American civilians or military personnel.

Please, those of you in the military, or with family and friends in the military, chew on that one for awhile.

UPDATED 22/7/14: The young man who was murdered in Shajiya after being wounded by an Israeli sniper, has been confirmed as Salem Khalil Salem Shammaly, 23-years-old, resident of Shajiya (http://palsolidarity.org/2014/07/woun...).

20/7/14: International and Palestinian volunteers accompanied Civil Defense and other rescue crews, as well as family members, into Shajiya, in an attempt to locate survivors of overnight and ongoing shelling by the Israeli army. A young Palestinian man, in a green t-shirt, who hoped to reach his family's home, was shot by an Israeli soldier while crossing an alley between buildings. Two additional rounds struck him as he lay injured on the ground.

Israeli Lawyer Doesn’t Deny Nuremberg Crimes on Palestinians

I spoke with the head military lawyer for the IDF, Joel Zinger. And I said … “It’s clear you people are inflicting Nuremberg crimes on the Palestinians. Exactly what the Nazis did to the Jews. What’s your explanation?”

He said: “Military necessity.”

Notice, he didn’t disagree with me.

I said: “That argument was rejected at Nuremberg when the lawyers for the Nazis made it.”

And then he said: “Well, we have public relations people in the United States … and they handle these matters for us.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

And they are clearly doing a wonderful job! :)

Khalilah Sabra: Israel Is Using Banned Weapons against the People of Gaza

As the Tel Aviv regime continues its deadly campaign of airstrikes against the densely populated Gaza Strip, where some 1.6 million people are living in an area of 360 km2 under critical conditions exacerbated by continuous water shortage, power blackout and lack of access to foodstuff and medicine, conscious activists across the world are raising their voice in protest against the inhumane measures adopted by Israel in Gaza, which has been under siege for more than 7 years now.

Israel Firing Experimental Weapons at Gaza’s Civilians, Say Doctors

Doctors treating patients in Gaza have accused Israel of using experimental weapons on Palestinian civilians.

Addressing reporters at a press conference on Sunday, Youssef Abul Resh, undersecretary of the health ministry in Gaza said, “Medical teams have registered injuries consistent with those caused by DIME [dense inert metal explosives] and other banned weapons.”

He added, “Israel has mercilessly targeted Palestinian civilians leaving many of them with life-threatening injuries and future handicaps.”

NY grandma jailed for violating protection order used to ‘quell dissent’ outside drone base

A New York grandmother was sentenced to a year in jail for violating a protection order filed by an Air National Guard commander against anti-war protesters.

Mary Anne Grady-Flores violated the protection order filed by Col. Earl Evans, prosecutors said, when she stepped on the grounds of Hancock Air Base to photograph a peaceful protest against the use of drones.

The judge imposed the maximum sentence July 10 for criminal contempt of court because the 58-year-old Grady-Flores had failed to pay fines and surcharges imposed by the court in a prior case.

Grady-Flores – the daughter of “Camden 28? Vietnam War protester John Grady — knew she was under court order to stay off base property, so she stood on a nearby roadway to photograph about 20 activists at the Ash Wednesday protest.

Her sister admits Grady-Flores briefly stepped onto a driveway on base property so another protester could show her how to take photos with an iPhone.

Webmaster's Commentary:

"...Disorderly conduct for blocking the the roadway."?!?!? ARE YOU FLIPPING KIDDING ME?!?!?

I so hope this gets appealed and thrown out of court.

Apparently, grandmothers who are completely peaceful scare the excrement out of Col. Earl Evans, and the peaceful expression of opinions contrary to war, more war, and extrajudicial assassinations is not to be tolerated on his watch.

It also is a very informative window on Obama's mindset that one of his most favorite ways to wage war is with drone attacks, which not only take out the alleged "bad guy" with no due process, but also takes out scores of innocent people, either killing them outright, or maiming them for life.

'Israel drops cancer-inducing bombs on Gazans'

A Norwegian doctor in the besieged Gaza Strip has strongly criticized Israel for using cancer-inducing bombs against Palestinian civilians.

Dr. Erik Fosse told Press TV that the majority of patients hospitalized in Gaza are civilians injured in attacks on their homes and about thirty percent of them are children.

Dense Inert Metal Explosive, known as DIME, is an explosive device developed to minimize collateral damage in warfare.

Experts say it has a relatively small but effective blast radius and is believed to have strong biological effects on those who are hit by the bomb’s micro-shrapnel.

Fosse, a department head at a university hospital in Oslo, also says some Palestinian in the besieged enclave have been wounded by a new type of weapon that even doctors with previous experience in war zones do not recognize.

Federal Court: No Impunity for Abu Ghraib Torturers

In a ruling that "affirms that U.S. corporations are not entitled to impunity for torture and war crimes," a federal appeals court Monday overturned a lower court's decision that had prevented accountability sought by Iraqi victims of torture at the notorious Abu Ghraib prison.

World outrage followed photo evidence of brutality at the prison between 2003 and 2004, and a leaked, internal Army report noted "sadistic, blatant, and wanton criminal abuses" at the hands of interrogators at the facility.

A Thin Rationale for Drone Killings

Under orders from a federal appeals court, the Justice Department made public a 2010 memo explaining why the drone strike was legal. Considering how long the administration fought the release, which was sought by The New York Times and the American Civil Liberties Union, one might have expected a thoughtful memo that carefully weighed the pros and cons and discussed how such a strike accords with international and Constitutional law.

Instead, the memo turns out to be a slapdash pastiche of legal theories — some based on obscure interpretations of British and Israeli law — that was clearly tailored to the desired result. Perhaps the administration held out so long to avoid exposing the thin foundation on which it based such a momentous decision.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Barry

This is not Great Britain. We fought a war back in 1776 not to BE Great Britain.

This is not Israel. Not yet, at any rate.

While maritime law follows the principle of Jus gentium, the laws of sovereign nations do not. That slavery is legal in one nation does not compel any other nation to legalize slavery within their own borders. Hence, whatever Great Britain and Israel may do is not a valid precedent for actions undertaken by the United States government.

That this drone memo tries to use the laws of foreign nations in its justification for drone assassinations of American citizens sends a clear message that no such legal justification can be found under United States law, and I rest assured the White House staff bent every effort to find one. Hence, the drone strikes are illegal, unconstitutional, and clearly immoral.

Everyone involved in the drone program, from Obama down through the chain of command to the operators clutching those remote control joysticks in their grubby little hands, is guilt of Premeditated First Degree homicide. That multiple parties are involved in these murders adds a charge of conspiracy to commit Premeditated First Degree homicide.

Legally there is no difference between Obama ordering a drone attack on an American and a mafia boos ordering his competition to be "rubbed out." Both are cold-blooded murders committed by organized crime operations.

UK urged by human rights groups to tell all on U.S. rendition flights to Diego Garcia

Human rights groups seeking to confirm the use of a British overseas territory as a US secret prison have uncovered evidence previously undisclosed to the government confirming that more planes were involved in the extraordinary rendition of terrorist suspects around the world than had been admitted.

Based on assurances from the US, the British government has consistently denied the claims. However, experts believe ministers’ denials do not square with the testimonies of several of those held by the US, including an opponent of Colonel Gaddafi, Abdul-hakim Belhadj, and his pregnant wife, Fatima Boudchar, who claim they were detained on Diego Garcia in March 2004.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Memo to all world leaders: in light of the fact that the US government routinely lies to its own people (even from one department of the government, the IRS, lying to another, Congress), please be assured that you have been - and will be - lied to consistently by the US government.

"Assurances" mean nothing to these people; if you do not have the ability to verify what they are saying, don't believe those assurances.

Agents of the US government will say whatever they say to get whatever they want, then gloat secretly that they have pulled the wool over the eyes of their allies yet again.

Will there be blowback by the UK when this knowledge becomes public?!? Absolutely.

But what is worse, is that the United States of America tortures, which is absolutely immoral, illegal, by our own legal statutes, and demonstrates to the world that the US government defiles the Constitution and Bill of Rights when it tortures prisoners of war.

Such torture also demonstrates that the rule of law; the values of democracy; and morality are only observed when these values do not "get in the way of doing business."

But I would like to hope that those precious few adults in the bowels of power in DC understand the following; when the US tortures, it gives carte blanche for other countries around the world to torture both American military members, and civilians.

To those of you who have family or friends in the military, please chew on that for awhile, won't you?!?

Humankind has known, since the time of the Inquisition, that torture only gets the tortured person to "confess" to whatever the torturer wants to hear, just to get the torture to stop, but rarely achieves actionable information.

So if the American military and intelligence personnel understand this, why do they still indulge in this barbaric behaviour?!?

Because they can hurt people, and get away with it with impunity, which has to be one gigantic "rush" for those very psychologically maimed individuals who enjoy it.

U.S. forces used depleted uranium rounds in civilian areas in Iraq, reports finds

US forces fired depleted uranium (DU) weapons at civilian areas and troops in Iraq in breach of official advice meant to prevent unnecessary suffering in conflicts, a report has found.

Coordinates revealing where US jets and tanks fired nearly 10,000 DU rounds in Iraq during the war in 2003 have been obtained by the Dutch peace group Pax. This is the first time that any US DU firing coordinates have been released, despite previous requests by the United Nations Environment Programme and the Iraqi government.

According to PAX’s report, which is due to be published this week, the data shows that many of the DU rounds were fired in or near populated areas of Iraq, including As Samawah, Nasiriyah and Basrah. At least 1,500 rounds were also aimed at troops, the group says.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US military and chain of command, right up to the White House didn't care how many Iraqis (and our own troops) would suffer from horrific cancers, and birth defects, because of the use of these weapons.

This is why that unholy trio of Bush Cheney, and Rumsfeld, should collectively be cooling their their heels at the International Court at the Hague, facing charges of crimes against humanity.

These monsters, and the corporations which own them, and profit handsomely from these immoral and illegal pre-emptive wars, should never, ever have power in this country again, period, end of discussion.

Obama security team ponders black ops mission to kill Taliban 5 in Qatar

A former U.S. intelligence official, who worked on covert operations throughout the Middle East and Latin America, claims the scuttlebutt among Beltway security experts is that there may be an a abrupt end to the freedom of the Taliban terrorists released from Guantanamo Bay's detention center, he intimated on Sunday.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Bergdahl scandal has become a litany of one failed decision after another. First there was the plan to offset the VA scandal by bringing home an American hero. Only that did not work out because the hero turned out to be a deserted and defector. This put the focus on the five Taliban who were released, which, although they may well have been among the 1/3 of Guantanamo detainees already cleared for release by the military tribunal, have been promoted as "really bad guys" in the media. So now the response by the White House is to renege on the release by sending on the drones to kill these five guys and a hundred innocent bystanders, and the White House apparently seems to think this will make the scandal go away!

Kiev’s Use of Heavy Weapons in Crackdown Violates International Law – Russia

Moscow has raised the issue of Kiev using heavy armaments in its special operations against independence supporters in eastern Ukraine at OSCE session, Russia’s envoy Andrei Kelin said on Wednesday.

“The punitive operation led by Ukrainian forces reflects signs of an international human rights violation, in particular, of the Geneva convention of 1949,” Kelin said.

“We drew attention to the tragic outcome of an operation in the Donbas [in eastern Ukraine], a barbaric shelling of a building of the Luhansk local administration,” he added.

He referred to reports claiming the Ukrainian military had used exploding bullets, cluster bombs and artillery.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF these reports are true, they are very horrific indeed.

Cluster bombs, in particular, should be banned immediately as a weapon of war.

Netanyahu Looks to Gitmo to Justify Force-Feeding of Palestinian Hunger Strikers

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is aggressively pushing a bill that would green-light the force-feeding of Palestinian prisoners on hunger strike, citing the U.S. military's routine use of this practice against detainees at the Guantánamo Bay (Image: Addameer) offhsore prison.

Netanyahu told the security cabinet on Sunday to move more quickly on discussions of the bill, Haaretz reports.

The Israel National Bioethics Council andIsraeli Medical Association are vocally opposing the law, and the IMA vowed on Thursday to prohibit Israeli physicians from participating in force-feeding, which it likened to torture, according to reportingby Israel's Channel 2 News.

In response, Netanyahu declared that he would find doctors willing to carry out the controversial practice and mentioned the U.S.'s routine practice of force-feeding hunger striking Guantánamo Bay inmates.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What the prisoners at Gitmo and those Palestinians being held in indefinite detention have in common is, primarily, as follows: they have not been allowed anything remotely resembling due process, to either convict or acquit them.

Netanyahu doesn't want these prisoners to die, because of the potential of creating massive Palestinian unrest through allowing this.

Also, these men probably won't be released, ever, because their bodies, like the bodies of Gitmo inmates, may well bear witness to horrific torture to get them to "confess" to whatever officials wanted them to say in order to justify their detention.

The American officials don't really care if these prisoners die, but feel compelled to be seen as "doing something" to prevent them from dying, so NG tube feeding is what they have chosen.

This is punishment, pure and simple, for their wanting to die because they will not be released, ever, even those who have not been convicted of doing anything wrong.

I would suggest that if Netanyahu is so "gung-ho" on this procedure, that he should have it done to himself...with cameras rolling.

But the process is nasty, and not without consequences; ask any Northern Irish person who was on a hunger strike in jail during "the troubles".

CIA Committed 'War Crimes,' Bush Official Says

A top adviser to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned the Bush administration that its use of “cruel, inhuman or degrading” interrogation techniques like waterboarding were “a felony war crime.”

What’s more, newly obtained documents reveal that State Department counselor Philip Zelikow told the Bush team in 2006 that using the controversial interrogation techniques were “prohibited” under U.S. law — “even if there is a compelling state interest asserted to justify them.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US Federal Government will never have to demonstrate one shred of moral conscience again in its existence, thanks for the "unholy trinity" of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld who defiled some the highest offices in this country with their justification of the use of torture, and their worship at the altar of corporate gain above all else.

And of course, President Obama, who is cut from precisely the same sociopathic cloth as are these men, declared that we, as a nation, had to look "forward, not backward" and away from the ruinous damage they had inflicted, not only to countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, but also, to the moral fiber of this country.

After his inauguration, Obama became not only the country's Commander in Chief, but also assumed the position of a new kind of commander, the "Enabler in Chief", soothingly assuring US citizens that "everything was quite all right, and there was nothing to really worry about" concerning the crimes perpetrated under Bush's watch.

Unfortunately, on this issue, President Obama has been utterly, shamefully, and deeply morally wrong.

The reality that there have been no prosecutions of any of the members of the Bush administration for torture and crimes against humanity, demonstrates, clearly, that we are no longer a nation of laws, but a nation of "national postures" to be justified and rationalized, whenever convenient, no matter the cost to our deeply-enshrined and respectful understanding of American justice and due process.

So welcome, my friends, to a Post-Constitutional Republic; where those freedoms and guarantees which used to be secured by the Constitution and Bill of Rights no longer exist; where indefinite detention without due process, and extrajudicial assassinations of American citizens, and yes - even torture - have been institutionalized and "sanitized" - for our alleged protection.

There now: doesn't that make you feel more safe already?!?

FLASHBACK - WACO - Who Shot First?

Contrary to the image of a dangerous gun nut put out in the media in an effort to justify the burning of the church, official BATF records prove that David Koresch was rather harmless, so much so that the BATF agents invited him to go shooting with them just 9 days before they raided the church. Koresch supplied the ammunition. The BATF agents allowed Koresch to try out their weapons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US Government justifies interventions in countries like Syria with the claim "They are murdering innocent people." Yet the US Government does not have a blemish-free history, having tried to stage a publicity-seeking raid then when that turned into a PR disaster, gassing a church full of innocent women and children to death with a poison gas that is illegal to use on enemy troops, then tried to cover it up by claiming mass suicide, then bulldozing the remains and burying the remains in a secret location. Thus, the US Government lacks the moral right to point fingers at anyone.

Man Who Was Waterboarded 183 Times, Confesses Complete Responsibility for 9/11 and Will Be Executed.

It was reported on BBC News tonight that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others will be charged with orchestrating the September 11 attacks.

What the report omitted to say was that many sources, including the New York Times (could any institution be less anti-establishment?), reported in April 2009 that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had been waterboarded 183 times in Guantanano Bay.

The BBC report went on to say, rather comically in the circumstances, was that "Khalid Sheikh Mohammed admits everything relating to the 9/11 attacks from A to Z."

"Guidebook to False Confessions": Key Document John Yoo Used to Draft Torture Memo Released

Air Force Col. Steven Kleinman, a career military intelligence officer recognized as one of the DOD's most effective interrogators as well a former SERE instructor and director of intelligence for JPRA's teaching academy, said he immediately knew the true value of the PREAL manual if employed as part of an interrogation program.

"This is the guidebook to getting false confessions, a system drawn specifically from the communist interrogation model that was used to generate propaganda rather than intelligence," Kleinman said in an interview. "If your goal is to obtain useful and reliable information this is not the source book you should be using."

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, let me wrap my head around this: US agencies signed off on torture methods in order to gain false confessions which were of absolutely no use to them in discerning where clear and present danger existed, to create confessions to adhere to a pre-determined outcome?!?

The reason many of our prisoners of war( forgive me, the terminology almost slipped my mind; "enemy combatants", currently warehoused at Guantanamo without due process)will never be released is that water-boarding wasn't the worst thing done to them in order to extract these false confessions.

Memo shows US official disagreed with Bush administration's view on torture

A memo about harsh interrogation techniques shows that a former US state department official strongly dissented from the Bush administration's secret legal view in 2005 that an international treaty against torture did not apply to CIA interrogations in foreign countries.

Until now, the February 2006 analysis by Philip Zelikow has been a high-level, classified internal critique of the Bush administration's controversial interrogation policies. An Objective Comparison of the U.S. to Regimes that Everyone Labels Repressive

Americans often proclaim our nation as a symbol of freedom to the world while dismissing nations such as Cuba and China as categorically unfree. Yet, objectively, we may be only half right. Those countries do lack basic individual rights such as due process, placing them outside any reasonable definition of “free,” but the United States now has much more in common with such regimes than anyone may like to admit.

These countries also have constitutions that purport to guarantee freedoms and rights. But their governments have broad discretion in denying those rights and few real avenues for challenges by citizens — precisely the problem with the new laws in this country.

The list of powers acquired by the U.S. government since 9/11 puts us in rather troubling company.

Earlier this week a video of US Marines urinating on dead Afghans went viral and caused pandemonium. Most people condemn the actions of the Marines while others applaud their brutal actions. Rick Sanchez, journalist, author and former CNN host, joins us for more.

Iran rial slides, 'dollar' text messages appear blocked

TEHRAN, Jan 10 (Reuters) - Iran's currency has slid 20 percent against the dollar in the last week despite central bank intervention, and Iranians concerned about the economy said on Tuesday attempts to send text messages using the word "dollar" appeared to be blocked.

The central bank reportedly pumped $200 million dollars into the market last Wednesday after new and much tougher U.S. sanctions prompted nervous Iranians to change rials into hard currency, accelerating a rise in the price of dollars on the open market.

FLASHBACK - Most Members of Congress Remain Committed to Israel’s Blockade of Gaza

Administration officials and Washington lawmakers indicated the United States is not willing to urge Israel to lift its blockade of Gaza, even as activists seek to highlight the issue after civilian deaths during Israel’s interception of a Gaza-bound flotilla.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With the recent release of the United Nations Human Rights Council report condemning the brutal Israeli attack on the flotilla and declaring the blockade of Gaza a violation of international law, every single member of the United States Government who supports that blockade is an accessory after-the-fact in a violation of international law. How much longer will we live in a nation run by criminals willing to subvert the laws for Israel's gains?

Back in 1948 and 1949, the USSR imposed a blockade on West Berlin to starve that nation into abandoning their elected leaders and accepting Soviet rule. This is identical to the situation in Gaza where Israel is trying to starve the Palestinians into abandoning their elected leaders and accepting Israeli rule.

But back in 19648, we had a far more moral and principled government that had the spine to stand up for what is right, and the US and its allies launched the Berlin Airlift, flying 200,000 flights into Berlin, delivering 13,000 tons of goods per day for a year until the blockade collapsed.

Oh to have real leaders like that again!

"On the radio talk shows and T.V.
You hear one thing again and again
How the U.S.A. stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend

But who are the ones that we call our friends
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally can't take anymore
So they pick up a gun, or a brick, or a stone

And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons

And there is blood on the wire..."
