UK Moves to Block US Senate Report to Protect Blair, Straw and Dearlove

From a British diplomatic source I learn that Britain has lobbied the United States against the publication of the Senate Intelligence Committee report on torture and extraordinary rendition. The lobbying has been carried out “at all levels” – White House, State Department and CIA. The British have argued that at the very least the report must be emasculated before publication.

The British argument is that in a number of court cases including the Belhadj case, the British government has successfully blocked legal action by victims on the grounds that this would weaken the US/UK intelligence relationship and thus vitally damage national security, by revealing facts the American intelligence service wish hidden. [We will leave aside for the moment the utter shame of our servile groveling judges accepting such an argument]. The British Government are now pointing out to the Americans that this argument could be fatally weakened if major detail of the full horror and scope of torture and extraordinary rendition is revealed by the Senate Intelligence Committee. The argument runs that this could in turn lead to further revelations in the courts and block the major defence against prosecutions of Blair, Straw and Dearlove, among others, potentially unleashing a transatlantic wave of judicial activism.

As a gesture of goodwill to my supporters, I am making my book available for download. It is 212 pages and contains many illustrations. Entitled “Masters of Deception: Zionism, 9/11 and the War on Terror Hoax,” this book covers all of the stops concerning Israeli/Mossad involvement in the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, documenting a Jewish-Zionist conspiracy behind 9/11, the subsequent wars in the Middle East, the “War on Terror” hoax and other Orwellian plots against humanity.

I do not intend to pursue this subject, or this cause, any further. The reasons for my departure are clear enough to anyone who has read the previous posts on this blog. I am content that I have left a body of work behind that will wake up future generations to the truth, and I therefore feel that my services are no longer needed in this area. UK urged to admit that CIA used island as secret 'black site' prison

The government is under mounting pressure to "come clean" about the role of an overseas UK territory leased to the US and allegedly used as a secret "black site" detention centre.

An opponent of Colonel Gaddafi who was rendered in a joint MI6-CIA operation, and a leading human rights group representing him, have demanded that the foreign secretary, William Hague, clarify the UK's position on Diego Garcia, an atoll in the Indian Ocean leased to the US until 2016. The Senate's intelligence security committee is preparing to declassify a file that reportedly confirms that the CIA detained "high-value suspects on Diego Garcia" and that "the black site arrangement on the atoll was made with the 'full cooperation' of the British government".

Webmaster's Commentary:

Britain has already admitted to the existence of a CIA torture facility at Diego Garcia, but without providing details of what went on there. With the leaked Senate Report confirming that worse things were done to those prisoners than waterboarding, it is clear that the facility at Diego Garcia is the perfect place for such atrocities to be carried out.

Pressure mounts on UK over CIA’s ‘black site’ jail in Indian Ocean

A human rights group is urging Britain’s Foreign office to “come clean” over claims that a British-administered island in the Indian Ocean, Diego Garcia, was used as a secret "black site" detention center by the CIA.

“We need to know immediately whether ministers misled parliament over CIA torture on British soil,” Cori Crider, strategic director at Reprieve, a legal action charity group, said in a letter to UK Foreign Secretary William Hague.

“If the CIA operated a black site on Diego Garcia, then a string of official statements, from both this and the last government, were totally false,” Crider said.

The Cliven Bundy Standoff: Wounded Knee Revisited?

Cattle became the successor to buffalo in the late 1860s and early 1870s. That was the era when the ancestors of Cliven Bundy settled in what was to become the State of Nevada, and began to graze cattle in what would later be called the Bunkerville Grazing Allotment. The Bundy family made peaceful and productive use of that allotment for more than 120 years, mixing their labor with the land to create original wealth.

Unfortunately, the Bundy family -- like the American Indians – had been living on a reservation: They were never allowed to exercise ownership of their grazing “allotment,” in much the same way that Indians were not permitted to have clear title to their lands. The land on which the Bundy family raised cattle was “owned” by the government, and the Bundys were required to pay rent – in the form of grazing fees – for the “privilege” of making productive use of it.

CIA’s use of harsh interrogation went beyond legal authority, Senate report says

A classified U.S. Senate report found that the CIA's legal justification for the use of harsh interrogation techniques that critics say amount to torture was based on faulty legal reasoning, McClatchy news service reported on Thursday.

The Central Intelligence Agency also issued erroneous claims about how many people it subjected to techniques such as simulated drowning, or "water boarding," according to the news service, citing conclusions from the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence report obtained by McClatchy.

The report also concluded that the CIA used interrogation methods that were not approved by its own headquarters or the U.S. Justice Department, impeded White House oversight and actively evaded oversight both by Congress and its own Inspector General.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To everyone still championing torture, I challenge you to have what was done to Binyam Mohamed publicly, with cameras rolling:

Gitmo Detainee’s ‘Genitals Were Sliced With A Scalpel,’ Waterboarding ‘Far Down The List Of Things They Did’ Last week, two British High Court judges ruled against releasing documents describing the treatment of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident who is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. The judges said the Bush administration “had threatened to withhold intelligence cooperation with Britain if the information were made public.” But The Daily Telegraph reported over the weekend that the documents actually “contained details of how British intelligence officers supplied information to (Mohamed’s) captors and contributed questions while he was brutally tortured.” In fact, it was British officials, not the Americans, who pressured Foreign Secretary David Miliband “to do nothing that would leave serving MI6 officers open to prosecution.” According to the Telegraph’s sources, the documents describe particularly gruesome interrogation tactics: The 25 lines edited out of the court papers contained details of how Mr Mohamed’s genitals were sliced with a scalpel and other torture methods so extreme that waterboarding, the controversial technique of simulated drowning, “is very far down the list of things they did,” the official said. Another source familiar with the case said: “British intelligence officers knew about the torture and didn’t do anything about it.”

George Bush, Dick Cheney, and Donald Rumsfeld...I'm waiting for you to volunteer to have this done publicly, then swear it was not torture!!

British gave 'full co-operation' for CIA black jail on Diego Garcia, report claims

The British government allowed the CIA to run a “black” jail for Al-Qaeda suspects on the Indian Ocean island of Diego Garcia, it was claimed last night.

The report, based on leaked accounts of a US Senate investigation into the CIA’s kidnap and torture programme after 9/11, contradicts years of British government denials that it allowed the US to use Diego Garcia for its “extraordinary rendition” programme.

The alleged Diego Garcia black site was used to hold some “high-value” detainees and was made with the “full co-operation” of the British government, according to Al Jazeera America, quoting US officials familiar with the Senate report.

The Astounding Conspiracy Theories of Wall Street Genius Mark Gorton

Mark Gorton does not have a reputation as a crackpot. Quite the opposite. He's been favorably profiled in the New York Times for his business acumen and charitable deeds. His experience as the head of Limewire—which disrupted the music industry and then lost a $100 million lawsuit as a result—was closely followed by the press. And when Michael Lewis's blockbuster new book about high frequency trading was published recently, prominent media outlets turned to Gorton to learn what HFT firms are really like. The Huffington Post even dubbed him "the new face of Wall Street." He is a very respected and very wealthy man.

This week, we were forwarded documents that Gorton was sending out to employees at Tower Research. These documents—embedded at the bottom of this post—are essays by Mark Gorton, laying out his theories on the secret high-level murderous criminal "Cabal" that is responsible for, among other things, the JFK and RFK assassinations, the presidential careers of the Bushes, Clinton, and Obama, the Oklahoma City bombing, the 9/11 plot, and the murder of countless witnesses, politicians, and journalists who sought to expose them, including Sen. Paul Wellstone and even Hunter S. Thompson. Everything, according to Gorton, has been an inside job.

White House Allows CIA To Heavily Edit Torture Report

The head of the Senate Intelligence Committee appealed to President Barack Obama to reconsider his administration’s decision to task the CIA with editing a torture report harshly critical of the spy agency’s treatment of terror suspects after the Sept. 11 attacks before it can be made public.

In a letter to the president, Sen. Dianne Feinstein said the White House should head the declassification process. Feinstein’s committee voted last week to publicly release parts of the 6,600-page review, subject to the executive branch blacking out sections compromising national security. Obama has backed that decision, but the White House has said the CIA will take the lead in redacting information.

Webmaster's Commentary:

If the CIA takes the lead in redacting information, there will be nothing left of the report which will ever trickle down to the American public.

So I think, in the interest of fairness, ANYONE supporting the use of torture on prisoners of war, past or present, should have done to them, with cameras rolling, precisely what was done to Binyam Mohamed, and declare publicly that it didn't hurt a bit:

The 25 lines edited out of the court papers contained details of how Mr Mohamed's genitals were sliced with a scalpel and other torture methods so extreme that waterboarding, the controversial technique of simulated drowning, "is very far down the list of things they did," the official said. Another source familiar with the case said: "British intelligence officers knew about the torture and didn't do anything about it. They supplied information to the Americans and the Moroccans. They supplied questions, they supplied photographs. There is evidence of all of that."

Your tax dollars at work, folks: doesn't that make you feel proud, to know that this gentleman's genitals were sliced open to get him to confess to anything, just to get the torture to stop?!?

What is morally disgusting about this is that, when the US government tortures, or outsources torture, it telegraphs to the world that all the blather our national leadership talks about in alleged defense of "democracy" and "human rights" is only observed in the breach in this country.

And when the US government tortures, it gives carte blanche to other countries to torture American civilians and our military.

Please, those of you with friends and family in the military, chew on that last one for a little while, won't you?!?!?!?

Is the US or the World Coming to an End? — Paul Craig Roberts

2014 is shaping up as a year of reckoning for the United States.

Two pressures are building on the US dollar. One pressure comes from the Federal Reserve’s declining ability to rig the price of gold as Western gold supplies shrivel and market knowledge of the Fed’s illegal price rigging spreads. The evidence of massive amounts of naked shorts being dumped into the paper gold futures market at times of day when trading is thin is unequivocal. It has become obvious that the price of gold is being rigged in the futures market in order to protect the dollar’s value from QE.

The other pressure arises from the Obama regime’s foolish threats of sanctions on Russia. Other countries are no longer willing to tolerate Washington’s abuse of the world dollar standard. Washington uses the dollar-based international payments system to inflict damage on the economies of countries that resist Washington’s political hegemony.

Police killings in America

Hardly a week goes by without a video emerging of another wanton killing by police somewhere in the country. The so-called “justice” system in America is notorious for its brutal treatment of workers and youth who get caught up in its web.

Despite having only five percent of the world’s population, the United States holds one quarter of the world’s prison inmates. Some 2.2 million Americans are in prison, and 4.8 million are on probation or parole. The US is one of a handful of developed countries that carries out the barbaric practice of capital punishment.

Capitalist rule in America has always been carried out by violent means, but the presence of police, armed guards and the military in daily life has grown rapidly in the aftermath of the financial crash of 2008. Its growth has paralleled a further increase in already staggering levels of social inequality.

NATO and Turkey’s Genocidal War on Syria

On March 16, the third anniversary of the NATO-led covert war on Syria, the Syrian army won a landmark victory by taking back the Yabroud town on the Lebanese border.3 Hours later, NATO-backed ‘Al-Nusra Front in Lebanon’ retaliated by launching a false-flag bombing attack in Lebanon.4

On March 18-19, the Israeli army bombarded Syrian Army positions by tank and artillery fire and airstrikes.5

On March 21, NATO-backed mercenary forces and Turkish Armed Forces launched a massive offensive on the Syrian border town of Kasab in the Latakia province. The unprecedented overt military aggression by Turkey and its NATO allies is the clearest indication of their desperation in the face of Syria’s steady progress towards a decisive victory on all fronts.

Waterboard Cheney!

ick Cheney has defended torture techniques so many times that a frustrated U.S. senator has finally offered to waterboard the former vice president.

“The accusations are not true,” Cheney told college television station ATV last week. “Some people called it torture. It wasn’t torture.”

“If I would have to do it all over again, I would,” he insisted. “The results speak for themselves.”

A report that has been completed by the Senate Intelligence Committee, however, has found that the CIA misled the government and misstated the effectiveness of the so-called enhanced interrogation program. The report concluded that the CIA lied when it said it had gotten “otherwise unobtainable intelligence that helped disrupt terrorist plots and save thousands of lives.”

This has been revealed by research from the daily Süddeutsche Zeitung, and the radio networks Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR) and Westdeutsche Rundfunk(WDR), based on details from American military documents and former drone pilot Brandon Bryant.

Hayden suggests Feinstein too ‘emotional’ about CIA interrogation techniques

Former CIA and National Security Agency director Michael Hayden suggested Sunday that Senate Intelligence Committee Chairwoman Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) might have compromised the objectivity of a report on CIA interrogation techniques because she personally wants to change them.

On "Fox News Sunday," Hayden cited comments Feinstein made last month in which she said declassifying the report would "ensure that an un-American, brutal program of detention and interrogation will never again be considered or permitted."

Hayden suggested Feinstein feels too strongly about the issue on an "emotional" level.

"That sentence -- that motivation for the report -- may show deep, emotional feeling on the part of the senator, but I don't think it leads you to an objective report," Hayden said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This response is disingenuous in the extreme; and General Hayden, shame on you for having said that.

I would sincerely like to invite General Hayden to have his sons or daughter waterboarded or otherwise tortured in his very presence, and then proclaim to the world that what he witnessed is not torture.

And do I need to remind this man that for some prisoners of war held by Americans, waterboarding was kind of far down on the list of tortures done to them?!?

I am curious, General Hayden: did you PERSONALLY sign off on this torture, knowing, as the entire world has known from the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that the only reason to torture is to force confessions, and not arrive at actionable evidence?!?
IF so, you are in desperate need psychiatric assistance, and right the flip now.

General Hayden, I would strongly suggest that you allow this to be done to you with cameras rolling; then, and only then, do you have permission to call Senator Feinstein "too emotional" on the issue of torture.

The then prime minster and Jack Straw, his foreign secretary, were kept informed “every step of the way” by MI6 and were shown Bush administration legal opinions that declared “enhanced interrogation” techniques such as waterboarding and stress positions to be legal, the source said.

The Americans passed over the legal opinions saying that this was now 'legal’, and our politicians were aware of what was going on at the highest possible level,” the source, who was reported to have direct and detailed knowledge of the transatlantic relations during that period, told The Telegraph.

“The politicians knew in detail about everything – the torture and the rendition. They could have said [to M16] 'stop it, do not get involved’, but at no time did they.”

Mainstream media coverage of the departure of Canada's last troops from Afghanistan has, with very few exceptions, ranged from unquestioning celebration of the Canadian state's work in that country to asking whether the war was worthwhile.

Police cadets in New Mexico trained to have “warrior mentality” and to use more deadly force

The face of evil IMHO! This is why all the police murders of Americans by APD!

The director said he'd rather burn his curriculum than disclose it to the media. NEW MEXICO — All new police cadets will be trained to use more deadly force — not less — thanks to a new curriculum by director of the state’s Law Enforcement Academy. Cadets are being trained by the former Army Colonel to have a “warrior mentality” with a strong emphasis on “Officer Survival.” The cadet program, which has also been shortened by six full weeks, leaves cadets more paranoid and more prone to use deadly force, critics say.

Jack Jones, a retired Army colonel, was granted sole authority by the LEA over the training curriculum given to all of New Mexico’s new recruits. He says the old model was too restrictive with the use of deadly force.

“Evil has come to the state of New Mexico. Evil has come to the Southwest. Evil has come to the United States,” Jones said to the Santa Fe New Mexican.

Lindsey Graham Pines for the Bush Days of Torture

I may simply be dense, but it sure seems to me that Huckleberry J. Butchmeup is pining for thumbscrews here, and waxing nostalgic over black sites and packing crates at Bagram. He was first to the fainting couch when the possibility of trying Khalid Sheikh Muhammad in New York City was raised, and worked to make that trial impossible, because of his fear of jihadi bat-missiles and KSM's well-known hypnotic powers which would be used to Muslimize everyone in the tri-state area. And we have now passed into the period in which many of the criminals of the late Avignon Presidency are being more open about the pride they take in their history of governmental sociopathy.

Israel Must Be Held Accountable

Citizens from 20 countries came to Istanbul to hear testimony on March 27, 2014 against Israeli officials and to offer their support to the victims on board the Mavi Marmara. Many of these supporters had also been attacked on other flotilla boats; suffering wounds, unlawful detention, torture and theft of money, credit cards and possessions at the hands of the Israeli militants.

“The real purpose of these hearings is to hold Israel accountable,” said American, David Schermerhorn, passenger on board Challenger 1.

The Israeli officials who ordered the raid on six civilian boats in international waters should face arrest by Interpol.

Why BDS Should Target All Israeli Institutions

Some people, although they wish to see an end to the occupation and settlements, believe that BDS should target only institutions that directly support the occupation and/or settlements. They want settlements-related business to be “disentangled” from other Israeli businesses and institutions.

For reasons given below, I believe that this view would lead to a sadly truncated “movement”, shorn of most of its potential power to effect change—that BDS should target all Israeli businesses and institutions.

US jazz musicians were drafted into the CIA’s MKULTRA

Here is a bit of US history that shows the reach of the CIA’s infamous mind-control program, MKULTRA.

During the 1940s and 50s, it was common knowledge that musicians who were busted for drug use were shipped, or volunteered to go, to Lexington, Kentucky. Lex was the first Narcotics Farm and US Health Dept. drug treatment hospital in the US.

According to diverse sources, here’s a partial list of the reported “hundreds” of jazz musicians who went to Lex: Red Rodney, Sonny Rollins, Chet Baker, Sonny Stitt, Howard McGhee, Elvin Jones, Zoot Sims, Lee Morgan, Tadd Dameron, Stan Levey, Jackie McLean.

It’s also reported that Ray Charles was there, and William Burroughs, Peter Lorre, and Sammy Davis, Jr.

It was supposed to be a rehab center. A place for drying out.

But it was something else too. Lex was used by the CIA as one of its MKULTRA centers for experimentation on inmates.

The White House Has Been Covering Up the Presidency’s Role in Torture for Years

On May 10, 2013, John Brennan presented CIA’s response to the Senate Intelligence Committee Torture Report to the President. Official White House Photo by Pete Souza.

The fight between the CIA and the Senate Intelligence Committee over the Committee’s Torture Report – which Dan Froomkin covered here – has now zeroed in on the White House.

Did the White House order the CIA to withdraw 920 documents from a server made available to Committee staffers, as Senator Dianne Feinstein says the agency claimed in 2010? Were those documents – perhaps thousands of them – pulled in deference to a White House claim of executive privilege, as Senator Mark Udall and then CIA General Counsel Stephen Preston suggested last fall? And is the White House continuing to withhold 9,000 pages of documents without invoking privilege, as McClatchy reported yesterday?

Webmaster's Commentary:

"Torture: why, it's as downright American as apple pie!!" - Official Obama White House Souse.

When this country tortures, or outsources torture, it tells the rest of the world that we only value human rights and due process in the breach of those values; not in their observance.

And when this country tortures, or outsources torture, it gives carte blanche to any country not particularly friendly to the US to do the same thing to our civilians and our military members.

Please, to all those who have friends or family serving in our military, please chew on that one for a while.

White House refuses to hand over top-secret documents to Senate committee

The White House is refusing to hand over top-secret documents to a Senate investigation into CIA torture and rendition of terrorism suspects, claiming it needs to ensure that “executive branch confidentiality” is respected.

In the latest development in the spiraling clash between Congress and the administration over oversight of the intelligence agencies, Barack Obama’s spokesman Jay Carney confirmed that certain material from the George W Bush presidency was being withheld for fear of weakening Oval Office privacy.

“This is about precedent, and the need, institutionally, to protect some of the prerogatives of the executive branch – and the office of the presidency,” said Carney.

“All of these documents pertain to and come from a previous administration, but these are matters that need to be reviewed in light of long-recognised executive prerogatives and confidentiality interests.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is not about "executive branch confidentiality": it is about the massive reality that under that unholy trinity of Bush Cheney, and Rumsfeld, waterboarding was absolutely not the worst thing that was done to prisoners of war by American or foreign handlers. As reported in February 2009 by "thinkprogress.org":

Last week, two British High Court judges ruled against releasing documents describing the treatment of Binyam Mohamed, a British resident who is currently being held at Guantanamo Bay. The judges said the Bush administration “had threatened to withhold intelligence cooperation with Britain if the information were made public.” But The Daily Telegraph reported over the weekend that the documents actually “contained details of how British intelligence officers supplied information to [Mohamed's] captors and contributed questions while he was brutally tortured.” In fact, it was British officials, not the Americans, who pressured Foreign Secretary David Miliband “to do nothing that would leave serving MI6 officers open to prosecution.” According to the Telegraph’s sources, the documents describe particularly gruesome interrogation tactics: The 25 lines edited out of the court papers contained details of how Mr Mohamed’s genitals were sliced with a scalpel and other torture methods so extreme that waterboarding, the controversial technique of simulated drowning, “is very far down the list of things they did,” the official said. Another source familiar with the case said: “British intelligence officers knew about the torture and didn’t do anything about it.”

Your tax dollars at work, folks: doesn't it make you feel proud?!?!?

Behind Clash Between C.I.A. and Congress, a Secret Report on Interrogations

At the center of the dispute is the classified internal C.I.A. review of the detention and interrogation program, a review that Democratic senators believe buttresses the conclusion in the intelligence committee’s 6,300-page report that the program yielded little valuable intelligence.

The story of how the internal review became the focal point of an escalating fight is based on interviews with more than a dozen current and former government officials on both sides of the battle. Most of them declined to be identified because of the continuing investigations.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Torture is absolutely morally wrong, and rarely reveals actionable intelligence.

But the people who should really be in the dock over these actions are that unholy trinity of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld.

Unfortunately, upon becoming President, President Obama gave them a "stay out of jail free" card, in his emphasis on not looking back, but looking forward. No committees probing the immorality of such actions; and no investigations of how their tortured logic led to the decision to physically torture prisoners of war.

They had to know, as humankind has known from the time of the Catholic Inquisition, that torture simply gets the tortured person to say anything the torturers want them to confess to in order to get the torture to stop.

And yet, they decided to torture anyway; what does this tell you about their character?!? The unfolding picture is none too pretty.

The United States has been on a morally slippery slope ever since 9/11, and that does not appear to be changing any time soon.

The current resident of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue believes he has a right to have anyone he doesn't particularly like extrajudicially assassinated, in foreign, countries, by drone strikes.

I wouldn't be surprised if, soon, he believes he can do the exact same thing to American citizens right here at home.

Obama Knew CIA Secretly Monitored Intelligence Committee

A leading US senator has said that President Obama knew of an “unprecedented action” taken by the CIA against the Senate intelligence committee, which has apparently prompted an inspector general’s inquiry at Langley.

The subtle reference in a Tuesday letter from Senator Mark Udall to Obama, seeking to enlist the president’s help in declassifying a 6,300-page inquiry by the committee into torture carried out by CIA interrogators after 9/11, threatens to plunge the White House into a battle between the agency and its Senate overseers.

McClatchy and the New York Times reported Wednesday that the CIA had secretly monitored computers used by committee staffers preparing the inquiry report, which is said to be scathing not only about the brutality and ineffectiveness of the agency’s interrogation techniques but deception by the CIA to Congress and policymakers about it. The CIA sharply disputes the committee’s findings.

I Can’t Keep Up with the Hypocrisies Coming Out of Washington

“President Barack Obama said the United States and its allies have agreed that Russia had violated international law by launching an incursion into Ukraine this weekend.”

Since when have either Obama or his allies or the U.S. been devoted to international law? Was that when Colin Powell presented fabricated evidence before the U.N. or when Bush and Blair twisted intelligence around the policy they desired? Was that when these allies rushed to devastate Libya after propagandizing about a mythical slaughter of Gaddafi? Was that when they supported insurrections against the government of Syria? Was that when the U.S. invaded Afghanistan and failed to make a case to its government that Osama bin Laden was responsible for 9/11?

Is it part of this law that one group of states sits down over lunch, cocktails or dinner and pronounces that some other state is guilty and should be punished as these diners see fit?

CIA Committed 'War Crimes,' Bush Official Says

A top adviser to former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice warned the Bush administration that its use of “cruel, inhuman or degrading” interrogation techniques like waterboarding were “a felony war crime.”

What’s more, newly obtained documents reveal that State Department counselor Philip Zelikow told the Bush team in 2006 that using the controversial interrogation techniques were “prohibited” under U.S. law — “even if there is a compelling state interest asserted to justify them.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US Federal Government will never have to demonstrate one shred of moral conscience again in its existence, thanks for the "unholy trinity" of Bush, Cheney, and Rumsfeld who defiled some the highest offices in this country with their justification of the use of torture, and their worship at the altar of corporate gain above all else.

And of course, President Obama, who is cut from precisely the same sociopathic cloth as are these men, declared that we, as a nation, had to look "forward, not backward" and away from the ruinous damage they had inflicted, not only to countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, but also, to the moral fiber of this country.

After his inauguration, Obama became not only the country's Commander in Chief, but also assumed the position of a new kind of commander, the "Enabler in Chief", soothingly assuring US citizens that "everything was quite all right, and there was nothing to really worry about" concerning the crimes perpetrated under Bush's watch.

Unfortunately, on this issue, President Obama has been utterly, shamefully, and deeply morally wrong.

The reality that there have been no prosecutions of any of the members of the Bush administration for torture and crimes against humanity, demonstrates, clearly, that we are no longer a nation of laws, but a nation of "national postures" to be justified and rationalized, whenever convenient, no matter the cost to our deeply-enshrined and respectful understanding of American justice and due process.

So welcome, my friends, to a Post-Constitutional Republic; where those freedoms and guarantees which used to be secured by the Constitution and Bill of Rights no longer exist; where indefinite detention without due process, and extrajudicial assassinations of American citizens, and yes - even torture - have been institutionalized and "sanitized" - for our alleged protection.

There now: doesn't that make you feel more safe already?!?

FLASHBACK - WACO - Who Shot First?

Contrary to the image of a dangerous gun nut put out in the media in an effort to justify the burning of the church, official BATF records prove that David Koresch was rather harmless, so much so that the BATF agents invited him to go shooting with them just 9 days before they raided the church. Koresch supplied the ammunition. The BATF agents allowed Koresch to try out their weapons.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The US Government justifies interventions in countries like Syria with the claim "They are murdering innocent people." Yet the US Government does not have a blemish-free history, having tried to stage a publicity-seeking raid then when that turned into a PR disaster, gassing a church full of innocent women and children to death with a poison gas that is illegal to use on enemy troops, then tried to cover it up by claiming mass suicide, then bulldozing the remains and burying the remains in a secret location. Thus, the US Government lacks the moral right to point fingers at anyone.

Man Who Was Waterboarded 183 Times, Confesses Complete Responsibility for 9/11 and Will Be Executed.

It was reported on BBC News tonight that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and four others will be charged with orchestrating the September 11 attacks.

What the report omitted to say was that many sources, including the New York Times (could any institution be less anti-establishment?), reported in April 2009 that Khalid Sheikh Mohammed had been waterboarded 183 times in Guantanano Bay.

The BBC report went on to say, rather comically in the circumstances, was that "Khalid Sheikh Mohammed admits everything relating to the 9/11 attacks from A to Z."

I like to think that this blog specialises in stating the obvious but here is something SO obvious that it does not need stating.

"Guidebook to False Confessions": Key Document John Yoo Used to Draft Torture Memo Released

Air Force Col. Steven Kleinman, a career military intelligence officer recognized as one of the DOD's most effective interrogators as well a former SERE instructor and director of intelligence for JPRA's teaching academy, said he immediately knew the true value of the PREAL manual if employed as part of an interrogation program.

"This is the guidebook to getting false confessions, a system drawn specifically from the communist interrogation model that was used to generate propaganda rather than intelligence," Kleinman said in an interview. "If your goal is to obtain useful and reliable information this is not the source book you should be using."

Webmaster's Commentary:

So, let me wrap my head around this: US agencies signed off on torture methods in order to gain false confessions which were of absolutely no use to them in discerning where clear and present danger existed, to create confessions to adhere to a pre-determined outcome?!?

The reason many of our prisoners of war( forgive me, the terminology almost slipped my mind; "enemy combatants", currently warehoused at Guantanamo without due process)will never be released is that water-boarding wasn't the worst thing done to them in order to extract these false confessions.

Memo shows US official disagreed with Bush administration's view on torture

A memo about harsh interrogation techniques shows that a former US state department official strongly dissented from the Bush administration's secret legal view in 2005 that an international treaty against torture did not apply to CIA interrogations in foreign countries.

Until now, the February 2006 analysis by Philip Zelikow has been a high-level, classified internal critique of the Bush administration's controversial interrogation policies. An Objective Comparison of the U.S. to Regimes that Everyone Labels Repressive

Americans often proclaim our nation as a symbol of freedom to the world while dismissing nations such as Cuba and China as categorically unfree. Yet, objectively, we may be only half right. Those countries do lack basic individual rights such as due process, placing them outside any reasonable definition of “free,” but the United States now has much more in common with such regimes than anyone may like to admit.

These countries also have constitutions that purport to guarantee freedoms and rights. But their governments have broad discretion in denying those rights and few real avenues for challenges by citizens — precisely the problem with the new laws in this country.

The list of powers acquired by the U.S. government since 9/11 puts us in rather troubling company.

FLASHBACK - Most Members of Congress Remain Committed to Israel’s Blockade of Gaza

Administration officials and Washington lawmakers indicated the United States is not willing to urge Israel to lift its blockade of Gaza, even as activists seek to highlight the issue after civilian deaths during Israel’s interception of a Gaza-bound flotilla.

Webmaster's Commentary:

With the recent release of the United Nations Human Rights Council report condemning the brutal Israeli attack on the flotilla and declaring the blockade of Gaza a violation of international law, every single member of the United States Government who supports that blockade is an accessory after-the-fact in a violation of international law. How much longer will we live in a nation run by criminals willing to subvert the laws for Israel's gains?

Back in 1948 and 1949, the USSR imposed a blockade on West Berlin to starve that nation into abandoning their elected leaders and accepting Soviet rule. This is identical to the situation in Gaza where Israel is trying to starve the Palestinians into abandoning their elected leaders and accepting Israeli rule.

But back in 19648, we had a far more moral and principled government that had the spine to stand up for what is right, and the US and its allies launched the Berlin Airlift, flying 200,000 flights into Berlin, delivering 13,000 tons of goods per day for a year until the blockade collapsed.

Oh to have real leaders like that again!

"On the radio talk shows and T.V.

How the U.S.A. stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend

Or the people who finally can't take anymore
So they pick up a gun, or a brick, or a stone

And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons

And there is blood on the wire..."
