The MPAA Isn't About Helping Hollywood. It's About Preserving Its Own Need To Exist.

In the past we've discussed the Shirky Principle, named after a statement by Clay Shirky that:

"Institutions will try to preserve the problem to which they are the solution."

In some ways that's a corollary to Upton Sinclair's famous quote:

"It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!"

My Songs Got 151,781 Plays on YouTube. I Received $10…

By the end of 2013 YouTube made their agreement with Swiss copyright society SUISA and thus finally became open to Swiss authors. By the end of January 2014 I was a YouTube partner and started uploading all my content and my so far 28 videos. But above all I was able to monetize the many third party uploads of my music. Or so I thought because it soon became clear that all my views added to next to nothing in my income reports.

‘Old’ albums now outsell new albums on iTunes in America

They don’t make ‘em like they used to: MBW has discovered that ‘new’ albums were outsold by ‘old’ (catalogue) albums online in the US for the first time in 2014.

The feat of catalogue albums outselling frontline releases was first achieved back in 2012, but that was a momentary blip; it’s never taken place over a whole year before.

The all-female cast of the "Ghostbusters" reboot has reportedly been chosen: Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and "SNL" stars Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon are negotiating to star in the film, which Paul Feig will direct.

Hollywood uses ‘American Sniper’ to destroy history & create myth

The moral depravity into which the US is sinking is shown by American Sniper glorifying the exploits of a racist killer receiving six Oscar nominations, whereas ‘Selma’ depicting Martin Luther King’s struggle against racism has been largely ignored.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We saw the same thing back in 2010 when the pro-war movie "Hurt Locker" won six Oscars while the anti-corporate-war "Avatar" was ignored.

Of course, being in the industry, I learned that the Oscars are driven by politics and money when Stargate was removed from the nominations by the Academy's "Blue Ribbon Committee" to clear the way for "Speed" to win the Oscar for visual effects.

"I don't give a fuck it's your house": American Sniper's Failure

American Sniper is a film about stupid people who were brainwashed into doing something stupid and it justifies their stupidity so that the stupid people watching can feel good about themselves. See, the one thing you can't separate out from the film is history. It tries to elide over history, but just because it isn't mentioned doesn't mean it isn't there. Because of that, the overwhelming feeling the Rude Pundit had was pity, not pride.

'American Sniper' - A Review By John Barbour

Clint Eastwood is now by far a much better Director than he is an actor. In the last ten years two of his films rank amongst America's best, 'Grand Tourino' and the under-rated, excellent 'Hereafter.'

In 'American Sniper.' he has kept Directing until he got it wrong. As a film, it fires blanks. As a video game and recruitment poster it is right on target. As a piece of cinematic storytelling, it has absolutely the clumsiest, sloppiest, most gutless ending I have ever seen in a movie.

The MPAA Isn't About Helping Hollywood. It's About Preserving Its Own Need To Exist.

The real issue here is that, as younger, more internet-savvy filmmakers continue to bubble up throughout Hollywood, sooner or later more of them are going to realize what a farce the MPAA has become. And just like the MPAA's "content protection" strategy has totally failed Hollywood, eventually it's going to totally fail itself as well. That's what you get for fighting the future, rather than embracing it.

‘American Sniper’: American Hero or American Psycho?

Breaking box office records, director Clint Eastwood’s newest film, “American Sniper,” raked in $107 million in its wide release in theaters over the four-day Martin Luther King holiday weekend, the biggest-ever January weekend film opening. A week earlier, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences rewarded the film with six Oscar nominations, including nods for best picture and best actor. It even moved Vice President Joe Biden, who reportedly teared up while watching it.

Dirty Harry Goes To Iraq

Back in 1979, reviewers liked to point out that Francis Ford Coppola’s Vietnam epic Apocalypse Now was so plagued with difficulty and confusion (the star suffered a heart attack during shooting and a devastating typhoon destroyed all the sets) that the making of the film paralleled the reality of the Vietnam War itself.

A similar observation might be made of Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper about Iraq. Like the Iraq War itself, Eastwood’s movie begins by exploiting a historically inaccurate delusion and, then, sustains itself for two hours on the mission to protect US soldiers against the insurgency that arose in opposition to the US invasion and occupation based on the initial delusion.

'American Sniper' Is Almost Too Dumb to Criticize

I saw American Sniper last night, and hated it slightly less than I expected to. Like most Clint Eastwood movies – and I like Clint Eastwood movies for the most part – it's a simple, well-lit little fairy tale with the nutritional value of a fortune cookie that serves up a neatly-arranged helping of cheers and tears for target audiences, and panics at the thought of embracing more than one or two ideas at any time.

TOP GEAR - Patagonia Special, Part 2

Webmaster's Commentary:

This video is only viewable in the UK, but I linked to it anyway in order to make this comment.

There are very few shows I call myself a fan of, but TOP GEAR is definitely one of them. I figure I will have arrived when I get to take the reasonably-priced car around the track. :)

So, I tuned in for the season premier, a two-part adventure across Patagonia, starting with a visit to one of Butch Cassidy's actual hiding places, and ending, rather dramatically, with an aborted plane to hold a car soccer match in Tierra Del Fuego.

Now, having worked in film and TV I assume that much of the "peril" faced by the presenters is contrived, but I do wonder at some of the risks the producers seem to take, such as sending men of that age to dangerously high altitudes during the episode where they drove across the Atacama Desert (that trip into the high atmosphere was also aborted). And in the Patagonia special, James May did get thrown from a horse and cracked three ribs, but soldiered on for the rest of the show.

But apparently the show's producers forgot that the people of nations one makes war on take a long time to get over such insults, and the locals still have hard feelings regarding that little episode in the Falkland Islands a while back. It didn't help that one of the cars being driven had a license plate that seemed to refer to the war. TOP GEAR producers insist it was just a coincidence; the Argentinians thought otherwise, and basically chased the show out of town, indeed out of the country, with riots that severely damaged all the vehicles of their production and injured members of the crew.

It makes for great television, but it should serve as a reminder that the people in all these nations abused by Great Britain, or for that matter the United States, do not "forgive and forget" all that easily, nor do they hate us just for our freedoms!

The Pseudo-Courage of Chris Kyle

American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History, the ghost-written memoir for which Kyle claims primary authorship, offers convincing testimony that Kyle not only failed to display genuine courage in Iraq, but was incapable of recognizing it when it was exhibited by desperate patriots seeking to evict the armed foreigners who had invaded and occupied their country.

The insurgents who fought the American invasion (and the few “allied” troops representing governments that had been bribed or brow-beaten into collaborating in that crime) were sub-human “savages” and “cowards,” according to Kyle.

“Savage, despicable evil,” writes Kyle. “That’s what we were fighting in Iraq…. People ask me all the time, `How many people have you killed?’... The number is not important to me. I only wish I had killed more. Not for bragging rights, but because I believe the world is a better place without savages out there taking American lives.”

‘American Sniper’ complaints grow in Hollywood: Should Clint Eastwood be celebrating a ‘killer’?

Even as “American Sniper” breaks January box-office records and revels in six Oscar nominations, criticism over the subject of the film, sharpshooter Chris Kyle, is rising and reaching into the Academy of Motion Picture of Arts and Sciences, which votes on the Academy Awards.

Over the weekend, multiple Academy members told TheWrap that they had been passing around a recent article by Dennis Jett in The New Republic that attacks the film for making a hero out of Kyle, who said: “The enemy are savages and despicably evil,” and his “only regret is that I didn’t kill more.” Kyle made the statements in his best-selling book, “American Sniper,” on which the film is based.

I will be the first to admit that I don't like this video, at all. I don't like watching it and I don't really like several aspects of the way I handled the situation. This all started one day when my wife and I were on our way somewhere and we stopped to use the internet at Starbucks. Then, all of a sudden, we're surrounded by cops screaming at me to freeze. Besides the Ron Paul sticker on my rear car window, I had two other bumper stickers on my car that day: '9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB,' and 'Same Sh!t Different Piles,' with photos of Bush and Obama. We never found out why the cops really came to Starbucks to accost us, or if there was even a real call.

Why Is the Real American Sniper -- a Hate-Filled Killer -- Being Treated as a Hero?

I have to confess: I was suckered by the trailer for American Sniper. It’s a masterpiece of short-form tension – a confluence of sound and image so viscerally evocative it feels almost domineering. You cannot resist. You will be stressed out. You will feel. Or, as I believe I put it in a blog about the trailer, “Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper trailer will ruin your pants.”

But however effective it is as a piece of cinema, even a cursory look into the film’s backstory – and particularly the public reaction to its release – raises disturbing questions about which stories we choose to codify into truth, and whose, and why, and the messy social costs of transmogrifying real life into entertainment.

As The Years Roll On, A Tribute To Ron Paul Supporters & The Tireless Spirit Of Liberty

The Ron Paul Bumper Sticker Is Still On My Car- "Beautiful Loser..." Tribute Video: As the video caption states, "Remember the good times.. a tribute to Dr. Paul and his supporters who love liberty." I remember very well how a lot of people were not happy with the outcome of the 2007 campaign and the way it ended. I also know a lot of people didn't support the 2012 campaign with the same spirit and hopefulness. I was not involved in the 2012 campaign at all. But that's not the point here. The spirit and hope of the people at that time, during the grassroots 2007 campaign, to me, was something much more meaningful and revealing than just about the man Ron Paul, strengths and flaws.
If you know what I mean- It was about eternal the hope of how things could be. And that is why that time will always be special. The Fight for Liberty is eternal.

Why was Antonio Sanchez' Birdman score disqualified for an Oscar?

We're concerned artists, composers, musicians and fans who wonder why the amazingly creative and ground-breaking drum score for Birdman by Antonio Sanchez was disqualified by the Academy.

The answers the Academy gave for their extremely peculiar decision disagree with the facts. The Academy reasons for disqualification are below, followed by the facts.

Academy: The biggest dramatic moments of the film were underscored by classical music. This dilutes the original score.

• Fact: The most memorable moments are scored by drums:
—Riggan’s attempt at suicide onstage
—His tormented destruction of his dressing room
—The most climactic moments of the film
• Fact: The classical music is not part of the score—it was part of the play and the events in the movie.
• Fact: The King's Speech score (nomination, 2010) was not disqualified, even though classical music not written by the film composer played a huge role in the film.

It Wasn't North Korea Or Russia: Sony Hack "Perpetrator" Said To Be Laid-Off, Disgruntled Employee

First it was, with "absolute certainly", North Korea. Then, out of the blue, an even more ridiculous theory emerged about the origin of the Sony hackers: Russia. Now, we finally get the truth, and as it turns out it was neither of the abovementioned sovereign actors who had nothing better to do than to hack movie scripts and racist emails: it was Sony's own disgruntled worker who was the source of the hack. According to Politico, FBI agents investigating the Sony Pictures hack were briefed Monday by a security firm that says its research points to laid-off Sony staff, not North Korea, as the perpetrator.

"Researchers from the cyber intelligence company Norse have said their own investigation into the data on the Sony attack doesn’t point to North Korea at all and instead indicates some combination of a disgruntled employee and hackers for piracy groups is at fault."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Emails Reveal US State Department Influenced Sony’s “The Interview” so as to Encourage Assassination and Regime Change in North Korea

The Daily Beast reported yesterday on leaked emails from the Sony hack which show that the United States government was involved at high levels with the content development of The Interview, especially its controversial ending depicting the assassination of North Korean ruler Kim Jong-Un. As the report’s headline states, “Sony Emails Say State Department Blessed Kim Jong-Un Assassination in ‘The Interview.’” The emails also reveal that a RAND corporation senior defense analyst who consulted on the film went beyond “blessing” and outright influenced the end of the film, encouraging the CEO of Sony Entertainment to leave the assassination scene as it was (in spite of misgivings at Sony) for the sake of encouraging North Koreans to actually assassinate Kim Jong-Un and depose his regime when the movie eventually leaks into that country.

My first thought after watching EXODUS was, I can't remember the last time I watched so many people try so hard to entertain me with such mediocre results. Scott seems intent on doing the very most to beef up a dreadfully dull screenplay, and it just ends up resulting in a whole lot of hot air and posturing. This past Thanksgiving Day, having sworn off the now overtly politicized NFL (National Football League) once and for all, I opted to channel-surf instead of watching football. Stumbling across this film took me back to my childhood days, so I parked the dial on New York Channel 11 in eager anticipation of watching a colorized version of the film whose storyline I had long since forgotten, and probably never truly understood, in terms of its hidden meaning.

The "anti-Semitic" (whatever that term really means) and the anti-moneylender message struck the older and informed version of yours truly upside the head like a bolt of thunder. I was not at all expecting to revert to the jumping, fist-pumping and cheering of childhood; but that is exactly how I ended up, much to the bewildered amusement of those clueless family members we were compelled to break bread with on "Holidays"!

Webmaster's Commentary:

Like Wizard of OZ, many films of Hollywood's "Golden Age" were allegories commenting on present times, done in clever ways to evade the censors. Producers with that kind of courage are rare these days.

White House stumbles explaining soap opera producer as ambassador

Asked at the daily press briefing what makes "The Bold and The Beautiful" producer Colleen Bell qualified to serve as U.S. Ambassador to Hungary, White House spokesman Josh Earnest didn't exactly have an explanation.

"(She's) somebody who obviously has succeeded in, you know, in the business world," Earnest said.

"And she is somebody that the President has confidence will be able to maintain our relationship with the government and the people of Hungary."

Earnest also denied that Bell's hand in raising millions of dollars for the President's re-election campaign had anything to do with her appointment.

Webmaster's Commentary:

During my time in Hollywood I met a lot of producers. Some were pretty sharp. Others were producers only because of family or romantic ties, investing their own money, or they were MOCKINGBIRD assets. I have never met Colleen Bell and have no idea what kind of person she is, and being that an ambassador is generally a glorified messenger, stripped of plenipotentiary powers in this age of instant global communication, she might actually be up to the job. That being said, politics is perception and it does look like Obama is going to spend his last years in office handing out goodies to his campaign fundraisers, which is hardly a new practice. Without casting aspersions on Colleen Bell, this looks about as reasonable a decision on Obama's part as when Caligula appointed his horse to the Roman Senate!

Haim Saban Raises $34M to Support Israeli Defense Forces

A tearful Saban told the crowd of more than 1,200 attendees that he discouraged anonymous donations this year because it was important for supporters to "stand with Israel publicly, vocally and very loudly."

Notable donations made at the event included $10 million from Larry Ellison, co-founder and chairman of Oracle; $5 million from top Republican fundraisers Sheldon and Miriam Adelson (who received a standing ovation from the liberal Westside crowd); $5.2 million from brothers Maurice and Paul Marciano of Guess Jeans; $3.6 million from Saban and wife Cheryl; $2 million from Steve Tisch, chairman and executive vp of the New York Giants; $1 million from Leo David, founder of the Western Region of the FIDF; and $1.6 million from The Helmsley Charitable Trust. In addition, first-time attendees and donors Michael and Susan Dell gave $1.8 million to fundIMPACT! educational scholarship programs.

AC/DC drummer Phil Rudd murder plot charge dropped

The Australian drummer of hard rock group AC/DC, Phil Rudd, has had a charge of attempting to arrange a murder dropped in New Zealand.

He will still face charges of drugs possession and making threats to kill.

The U-turn by authorities, announced less than 24 hours after Mr Rudd appeared in court, was because of a lack of evidence, his lawyer said.

On the Way to the City of Dis Across the Sea of Moral Relativity.

Dum de dum dum. Dum de dum dum dum! Heah come de Jolie. Heah come de Jolie. As if this were any kind of surprise, after becoming a member of The Council on Foreign Relations and personally lobbying for UN Ambassador-ship. If you've ever wondered why actors get into politics, you shouldn't. They're actors. This means they are good at playing roles, as good at playing roles as the public is good at being stupid and believing the performance. It's why so many actors do commercials, especially at the end of their career, when there might be some doubt as to whether they were a hack all along, or a walking around stage prop like Alan Thicke and Ronald Reagan gets special mention in that department. The fact that he was a terrible actor melded effortlessly with playing Republican Messiah. The Altzheimers was simply an expression of there never having been anyone there in the first place. If Monsanto were to engineer a presidential candidate it would be Ronald Reagan; actually George W.

DINOSAUR 13

When Paleontologist Peter Larson and his team from the Black Hills Institute made the world's greatest dinosaur discovery in 1990, they knew it was the find of a lifetime; the largest, most complete T. rex ever found. But during a ten-year battle with the U.S. government, powerful museums, Native American tribes, and competing paleontologists they found themselves not only fighting to keep their dinosaur but fighting for their freedom as well.

Based on the book "Rex Appeal: The Amazing Story of Sue, the Dinosaur That Changed Science, the Law, and My Life" by PETER LARSON and KRISTIN DONNAN

Webmaster's Commentary:

Claire and I watched this documentary last night. It is a stunning example of our current government seeing its role in society as bullying people whenever it can. The government went after Peter Larson and Kristin Donnan with a vengeance, railroading them first out of business then into prison while the man who actually committed the crime of selling the fossil T-Rex without US Department of the interior permission walked away with $7.6 million tax free from the sale of "Sue", the most complete T-rex ever found.

Is It Haskalah Or Culture Of Deceit?

The new play by Bernard-Henri Levy, "Hotel Europe," that opened in Paris in September, was scheduled to run until January but will close in November due to a lack of people willing to play audience. BHL induced Sarkozy, Hollande and Valls to promote his play but apparently that didn’t help its reception.

A Swiss comedian, Matthieu Béguelin, commented on Hotel Europe’s aborted run by saying: "La pièce de BHL fait un four." In theatrical vocabulary, the expression means that BHL’s play was a flop. As you probably know, the French word "four" means "oven" and the media were quick to react with commentary that BHL is Jewish and ‘oven’ can evoke the Nazi crematoriums. The comedian replied amongst other things that he was amused that nobody who talked about the walloping of BHL had dared to use the same common expression.

Lights, Camera… Covert Action: The Deep Politics of Hollywood

A variety of state agencies have liaison offices in Hollywood today, from the FBI, to NASA and the Secret Service. Few of these agencies, though, have much to offer in exchange for favourable storylines, and so their influence in Hollywood is minimal. The major exception here is the Department of Defense, which has an ‘open’ but barely publicized relationship with Tinsel Town, whereby, in exchange for advice, men and invaluable equipment, such as aircraft carriers and helicopters, the Pentagon routinely demands flattering script alterations. Examples of this policy include changing the true identity of a heroic military character in Black Hawk Down (2001) due to his real-life status as a child rapist; the removal of a joke about “losing Vietnam” from the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), and cutting images of Marines taking gold teeth from dead Japanese soldiers in Windtalkers (2002).

The Hot Pursuit of the Hamster Swine with the Treadmill Spinning Blues.

They call Hollywood, Tinsel Town. The image implies an electrified atmosphere, with shimmering confetti woven into it. It's an illusion factory. Quite often, the events and abilities displayed are an impossibility in real life; whatever that is. Increasingly, these days, Hollywood has become a propaganda mill and also a showcase for some of the most blatant and embarrassing shilling for exceptionalism that I have ever seen through that medium.

Webmaster's Commentary:

When I quit film and TV, I really thought I was going to miss it, but looking at what Hollywood has become, I know I made the right decision.

Ooooooooooooh, it's Lonely at the Top.

I like my songwriters to be on the right side of history. Most of them aren't. They've all crumbled before the altar of wealth, excess, privilege and VIP invites. Sometimes an artist can ride the waves and have success and demonstrate a conscience and sometimes an artist is pushed to the margins, blackballed and sundry. A true artist is less concerned with this and more mindful of who he or she works for and... if you are a true artist, well... you do the math.. The question of what comprises a true artist may be a difficult one to answer in a time where they are, pretty much, nowhere to be seen. The powers that stink have barred the door to that form of expression. That's why we got, “uh uh uh uh oh, oh oh oh oh uh and uh uh uh uh oh.” all the way from Bimbo Rock to the Olympian rockers.

UPDATED: John Textor Receives Threats over Michael Jackson Hologram

TMZ reports that the HologramUSA head went to court back in May claiming Textor stole the technology that created the holographic image, and asking the judge to block Textor from showcasing the hologram on the show.

After the lawsuit was denied, according to legal documents acquired by TMZ, David went on a hate campaign against Textor, even going so far as to post a photo of Hitler on Instagram tagged with Textor’s name. David also allegedly sent Textor death threats and allegedly tried extorting him with photos and illicit money transfers.

Textor went to court this week represented by attorney Marty Singer, asking for a protective order, which was granted. David was ordered to stop the harassment and steer clear of Textor. He has also been ordered to get rid of any guns he owns and is forbidden from buying more. In addition, David has been ordered to remove the Hitler photos and the various threats from social media.

Bill Maher levels GOP Rep. Kline: He embodies D.C’s ‘easily-swayed whores and sellouts’

Real Time host Bill Maher closed his season premiere on Friday with a scathing takedown of incumbent Rep. John Kline (R-MN), calling on his viewers to help vote him out of office in November.

“More than anyone else we could find, he embodies the easily-swayed whores and sellouts who keep this town running,” he told his Washington, D.C. audience.

Maher said that, besides voting against the Affordable Care Act — 54 times — as well as stem-cell research, marriage equality and raising the minimum wage, Kline also supported last year’s federal government shutdown and was “bought and paid for” by for-profit colleges.

“As the powerful chairman of the Education Committee, Kline has done more to keep twentysomethings in their parents’ basements than anyone else alive,” Maher argued, adding that 88 percent of students at the University of Phoenix, Kline’s biggest supporter, do not graduate.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I watched this last night, and have to share that I have what I would characterize as a "hug and a punch" relationship with Maher's work.

But Bill really needed to have the courage to go further than this particular piece of work, and castigate an entire system, where vote fraud is rampant, and corporations fund election cycles to get what they want out of Congress.

Constituents, under the current system, are expendable and irrelevent to the way business is conducted in Washington, and that is just a cold, hard, reality of the political beast in this country. Oh, yes, one can go through the kabuki process of voting; but after decades of voting, and very few pieces of legislation are actually created which favor small businesses, or We the People, it is hard to imagine the point, unless the entire system changes.

Maher can be so myopically partisan that sometimes he just cannot see what he is looking at. And with the alleged "Affordable Care Act" (written by the health insurance companies themselves), what a lot of people wound up with was infinitely less choice, less care, and more money for what insurance they did get.

As reported at insurancenewsnet.com in November of 2013 in comments by Senator Barrasso, from Wyoming:

"This has been a very rough five weeks for hardworking Americans who are concerned about their health. "Many people were hoping that the Democrats' health care law would actually help decrease costs--that it would actually help increase access to quality health care. "But all of America knows it just hasn't happened. "On October first, the Obama Administration launched its health care exchange. "This was to be the biggest moment of the President's signature achievement in office. It's one that people were looking for years to the opening of the exchanges and I would just say it flopped. It completely flopped. "The website crashed, and it fell right on the heads of the people who were already anxious about their health care. "Because of this law, millions of people are getting letters saying that their insurance has been cancelled. "And I've talked to some of them this past weekend in Wyoming. "At least three and a half million across the country, and the number continues to climb every day. "The Obama Administration says that's no big deal - they say that only three and a half million people are losing the insurance plans they have now. "But this administration's goal, their goal was just seven million people covered in the exchanges. Why does the White House think that 3.5 million Americans losing their coverage is no big deal - when their goal this year is 7 million Americans?

Yes, I am for universal healthcare in this country; but Obamacare was just not the right way to go about it. And Pelosi's remark, "We have to pass the bill in order to see what is in it", was a dead giveaway that this would NOT assist people with real healthcare needs. And of course, Congress has exempted itself from having to use it!!!

WAY TO GO, CONGRESS!!

Israel’s Political Firewall against the Truth

In an article published in the September 6th edition of The Palestine Chronicle (“Imagining Palestinians as Equal”) I began with this quote from novelist Aldous Huxley: “The propagandist’s purpose is to make one set of people forget that certain other sets of people are human.” It is the key to separating out what is blatant propaganda and what is fair and honest communication.

The purpose of Israel’s political firewall is blocking out and discrediting the testimony of the people it abuses on a daily basis and their supporters, through using high level elites.

Robin Williams found hanged with a belt, cops say

Investigators in California said today Oscar-winning actor Robin Williams was found dead in his bedroom, fully clothed, slightly suspended in a seated position with a belt around his neck, with one end wedged between a closet door frame.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The Marin police have just held a press conference in which they report Williams was found "slightly" suspended by a belt around the neck above the floor in a seated position. This is not a typical position for a suicide, but is a method used for a practice called sexual or autoerotic asphyxia, in which the neck is constricted to enhance sexual feelings. It is also very dangerous. Accidental death can occur quickly as was seen in the case of David Carradine.

This is looking like a tragic autoerotic accident being presented as an intentional suicide to save the family embarrassment (and the profitability of re-runs of Williams' movies).

This should serve as a reminder to those looking for that little extra thrill that these practices can go horribly wrong, especially when done alone.

Downsizing: Robin Williams’ Declining Spiritual, Emotional and Financial Affairs Before Suicide

Erotic asphyxiation or breath control play is the intentional restriction of oxygen to the brain for sexual arousal.

In World’s Greatest Dad, a 2009 black comedy written and directed by Bobcat Goldthwait and starring Robin Williams, Daryl Sabara, and Alexie Gilmore, Lance Clayton (Robin Williams) discovers in horror that his son Kyle (Sabara) has accidentally strangled himself in an autoerotic asphyxiation accident in his bedroom, looking at a picture of Claire (Gilmore)’s underwear. To avoid embarrassing his son and himself, the Williams character stages his son’s death as an intentional suicide.

Webmaster's Commentary:

As of this moment it looks like a replay, with Robin William's death being presented as an intentional suicide to save the family embarrassment.

The New McCarthyism

Once again vast sums of money are being spent on a war, this time a hot one and getting hotter. Once again parties with a vested interest are out to smear and destroy anyone who dares ask if the wars are worth the sacrifice of our young people (not to mention the money), indeed if there really is any point at all to the wars aside from justifying the flow of money to defense contractors.

But the Soviet Union has gone out of business. The word "communist" doesn't carry the same psychological impact it used to, so the war hawk smear squad has come up with a new one, "Anti-Semite." Like "Communist", "Anti-Semite" is used to ruin the lives of people who have not actually done anything wrong other than to challenge the war profiteers. It is a new word for an old trick, and I am amazed that they are still playing the same old game, but I guess the FBI can always find some dumb-assed idiot to fall for it and do their dirty work of wrecking a career for them.

Webmaster's Commentary:

People are looking at the firing of Steven Salaita and Hollywood's declared unemployment for Penelope Cruz and asking if there is a new blacklist. There isn't. It's the same one that has been going on all along, usually out of sight of the public. It's the same blacklist whose wrath I personally experienced 20 years ago.

Changeling

Changeling is a 2008 American drama film, written by J. Michael Straczynski and directed, co-produced and scored by Clint Eastwood, that explores child endangerment, female disempowerment, political corruption and the repercussions of violence. Based partly on real-life events – the 1928 "Wineville Chicken Coop" kidnapping and murder case in Los Angeles, California – the film stars Angelina Jolie as a woman who is reunited with her missing son only to realize he is an impostor. When she tries to demonstrate this to the police and city authorities, she is vilified as delusional and an unfit mother.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Claire and I caught this movie on Cable last night (we are avoiding the new movies on the pay-per-view channels in light of Hollywood's blacklisting of Penelope Cruz). I do not recall hearing a lot about this film when it first came out in 2008, which becomes understandable when you learn that this story actually happened and 95% of the screenplay is based on the actual documentation of this incident.

While the film focuses on the struggle of Christine Collins to convince the LAPD they have not found her real son, the scandal was that the LAPD, rather than accept their failing in an election year, railroaded Christine Collins into a mental home where she learned that the LAPD had a common practice of sending political threats to the mental home just to get rid of them. In refusing to further investigate the issue, the LAPD inadvertently delayed the solving of an horrific serial killer case in Wineville, California. I won;t spoil the rest of the film, but if you see it in the fcable guide, you will want to watch this one. It illustrates that the corruption of power is nothing new. It has been going on all along. The only difference is that in the age of the internet, We The People see it now.

Joan Rivers has said she has no sympathy for the plight of the Palestinians in Gaza, declaring they ‘deserve to be dead’.

Stars Face Hollywood Backlash in War of Words Over Israel

When the latest battle in Gaza finally is over, as someday it will be, hard feelings could linger in the corner offices of Hollywood toward the stars who have voiced anti-Israel sentiments. But will the artists who criticize Israel military strikes -- particularly married Spaniards Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, who accused the country of "genocide" in a widely circulated July 25 letter -- suffer career backlash in a town whose power brokers tend to be strong supporters of Israel?

Webmaster's Commentary:

The days of the McCarthy Blacklist are back, only instead of "Commie" the phrase used to wreck careers for political gain is now "Anti-Semite."

I find it amazing that Jewish control of Hollywood, so fiercely denied over the last several decades, is now prominently on display for the whole world to see!
