Do you want to tap into your local scene? Are you a tourist looking for some action-packed nightlife? Or do you want to find a quiet out-of-the way place for a romantic evening?

A new facial "detection" app has hit the bar market in San Francisco, and its intentions are coming under scrutiny by potential patrons.

SceneTap is one of a plethora of private companies who are using the military tech of biometrics to database your face in a quest to offer convenience and enhanced social networking, paving the way toward making "anonymous" biometric information part of one's entertainment repertoire with trendy tech applications...

BitTorrent Piracy Boosts Music Sales, Study Finds

A new academic paper by a researcher from the North Carolina State University has examined the link between BitTorrent downloads and music album sales. Contrary to what’s often claimed by the major record labels, the paper concludes that there is absolutely no evidence that unauthorized downloads negatively impact sales. Instead, the research finds that more piracy directly leads to more album sales.

Sacha Baron Cohen's Father: B'nai B'rith UK President, Hillel Director

Sacha Baron Cohen's claim to fame is deceiving and mocking individuals and ethnicities for laughs; videotaping interviews where the subject is made to look foolish. He refuses to say how these oftentimes high-profile interviews are arranged. In 2009, Sky News documented that Baron Cohen deceived a Palestinian Christian into an interview and deceived his viewers to believe that the subject was a hostile Muslim terrorist. The man filed a defamation lawsuit. The 'Anti-Defamation' League of B'nai B'rith was nowhere to be found, however. There's a reason for that.*

TPP: Internet Freedom Activists Protest Secret Trade Agreement Being Negotiated This Week

Maira Sutton

The U.S. content industry will try anything to preserve its profit margin and power over the creative content market at the expense of the Internet. They will use any tactic that circumvents democratic processes to make new rules for the Internet that favor their interests and not the interests of Internet users or the technical community that actually builds the Internet as we know it. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is yet another example of these tactics.

CISPA vs. The Pirate Bay: who will win the future of information sharing?

Noah Bonn, Contributor
Activist Post

In case you haven't looked up from your cave in a while, the biggest, messiest clash of titans so far in 2012 is currently being fought on the world stage. I'm referring to the battle between bills like CISPA and file sharing sites like The Pirate Bay.

Some of the players in this epic include: Internet moguls, governments around the world, media empires, military intelligence, and the ever-ominous power of the people.

The question to be answered is simple: Can Internet users freely share files on the Internet? How you respond to it will decidedly affect the future of not just music, but every industry in the world...

Pirates Beware: DVD Anti-Piracy Warning Now Twice as Fierce

Hollywood and the federal government have partnered to create updated and even more annoying anti-piracy warnings that will be included in new home-release DVDs and Blu-ray discs beginning this week, the government said Tuesday.

The new warnings now have three scary logos intended to deter those who might violate copyright law by making a back-up copy, ripping a movie to a tablet-friendly file, uploading it to a peer-to-peer network or make illegal copies to send to military service members in Iraq.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh yeah; that'll stop the pirates! In a nation where kids see the President stealing other peoples' nations, it gets hard to convince them copying a file is a big deal.

The movie biz gives Mel Gibson another chance -- do you?

Like Rasputin or Robin Swallows, Mel Gibson’s film career just won’t die. One minute, he’s (again) being called “a serial offender, a serial hater, and a serial bigot” by the Anti-Defamation League; the next, it’s reported that he’s in serious talks to appear in an upcoming Robert Rodriguez movie.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Hollywood's decline in profitability has nothing to do with piracy and content theft. Hollywood, ever-ready to barter creativity for political correctness, has allowed a self-selected group of whiners to dictate that only a narrow selections of stories may be told, and then portrayed only from a very narrow point of view.

Hollywood made this mistake once before when the McCarthy hearings drove the top creative people out of the film industry. Box office suffered as a result, but they didn't have content pirates to shift the blame onto back then.

Hollywood is making the same mistake again, and the only difference is that instead of shouting "Commie" the whiners scream "Anti-Semite" to ruin the careers of those whose opinions they oppose, or worse, simply those whose positions they covet.

But behind the language this is still the same pattern of dictating to Hollywood what they may or may not show in film and has resulted in the same endlessly repeated formulaic redo (emphasis on "doo") of what is deemed safe for the public mind. Hence, "The Bourne Malaise" is shown 20-30 times every month on Cable TV, fighting for programming slots with the usual flood of obligatory movies about how evil events that happened in Germany in the last century (before we were born) were.

So, yes, Mel Gibson deserves a second chance because even if you don't agree with him (and I don't on several points) he has the courage to speak his mind, and if you truly support the First Amendment to the Constitution of the United States then you must stand with him against the whiners who feel it is their God-given right to tell others what they may see, read, hear, and think. Mel Gibson's last line in "Braveheart" was "Freedom!" The man walks his talk. We should walk with him.

Who really wields the baton at the London Philharmonic Orchestra?

Calls for the boycott of Israel’s cultural ambassadors just won’t go away. Now London’s Globe Theatre is being criticised for its invitation to Israel’s Habima Theatre, the latter having performed in Israel’s illegal settlements. Prominent arts figures such as Mike Leigh, Emma Thompson, Jonathan Miller, and Mark Rylance, the Globe’s founding artistic director, have publicly called for the theatre to cancel Habima’s appearance. Meanwhile Günter Grass, author of the classic anti-Nazi novel The Tin Drum, created a storm with his poem Was gesagt werden muss (What must be said), which seeks to free Germans from the ancestral guilt that Israel exploits to secure their obedience.

Shame on the management of the London Philharmonic for aiding and abetting an apartheid state!

Illegal downloading 'more like trespass than theft'

An expert on white collar crime says the entertainment industry's efforts to label illegal downloading as theft are not being taken seriously.

In a landmark ruling on Friday, the High Court refused to punish Australian internet provider iiNet for illegal downloads made by its customers.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Dear broadcasters. Your revenues are not dropping because of copyright infringement. They are dropping because TV shows these days are just politically correct crap endlessly repeated. Nobody is going to steal a copy of Bourne Identity when it is being repeated endlessly dozens of times every month on cable.

The fact is that in a tragic repeat of the McCarthy era, Hollywood has driven the most creative talent out of the industry in order to pander to the powers that be, and as a result, cannot produce a TV show or a movie people want to see. "Super 8", a formulaic melange of ideas copied from "Cloverfield", "E.T.", "Close Encounters", etc. is a good example. Havng paid for the DVD I can assure you ... it isn't worth stealing at all.

Hollywood loses final appeal in piracy case

A damaging blow has been dealt to the giants of the film industry in the High Court today after it decided to dismiss their copyright infringement appeal case against internet service provider (ISP) iiNet in a landmark ruling.

The High Court's five judges unanimously dismissed the appeal. In a summary the court observed that iiNet "had no direct technical power" to prevent its customers from illegally downloading pirated content using BitTorrent, a popular protocol used to share files online.

Shades of 1984 Emerge in Broadcast TV Copyright Flap

Echoing Hollywood’s arguments against the VCR before the Supreme Court, broadcasters claim Aereo will doom them and are asking a federal judge to ban the service.

“Unless restrained by this court, Aereo’s unlawful conduct causes plaintiffs to lose control over the dissemination of their copyrighted programming, disrupts their relationships with licensed distributors and viewers and usurps their right to decide how and on what terms to make available and license content over new internet distribution media. That constitutes irreparable harm and Aereo’s service should be enjoined,” Bruce Keller, their lawyer, wrote the federal judge presiding over the litigation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

PALESTINIANS ~~ THE NEW BLACKS

In a first ever musical collaboration between South Africa and Palestine, South African band, The Mavrix, and Palestinian Oud player, Mohammed Omar, have released a music video called “The New Black”. The song is taken from The Mavrix’ upcoming album,”Pura Vida”, due for release in June 2012.

Written and composed by Jeremy Karodia and Ayub Mayet, the song was a musical reaction to the horror of the Gaza Massacre of 2008/2009 and then subsequently inspired by the book “Mornings in Jenin”, authored by Susan Abulhawa. Mayet had penned the first lyrics in 2009 after the Massacre and the song went into musical hibernation. Having read the novel, “Mornings in Jenin”, he then re-wrote the lyrics and the song evolved into its current version.

As we’ve previously noted:

JEWISH ABC AIRS "GOOD CHRISTIAN BITCHES"

There should exist a very powerful watchdog group honestly and fearlessly blowing the whistle when Christianity is defamed by Jewish big media, unafraid to identify its perpetrators as Jewish. The Anti-Defamation League does this for the benefit of Jews. Whenever a politician or Christian leader comments unfavorably concerning Jews or Israel, ADL demands an apology and virtually always gets it. The alternative is political or professional ruin.

But ADL is silent regarding the defamation of Christianity. Good Christian Bitches is a television sitcom to air on Jewish Disney/ABC March 4, based on a book of the same title. Due to protest, its title has been shortened to “GCB” in American markets. No one is fooled. The show portrays Christian women as petty, gossipy and vindictive.

Interesting movie review of "Act of valour"

There's a reason I don't have guidelines to go off for this film like I would for a musical or a buddy-cop movie. It's because we haven't made any movies like this for a very long time, and I'm not quite sure why we needed to start now. This is a film that basically exists to tell you that the only reason you aren't being murdered right now while you read this is because of a Navy SEAL somewhere in the world. Maybe that's true, I don't know. But it's a little unfair to spend a whole movie telling us that and then end it with a poem telling us to live our lives without fear.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I have no intentions of seeing this movie at all.

Katherine Butler: See this film and then say that bombing Iran is ok

The comments yesterday of Israelis who saw A Separation and told an AP reporter they were surprised that Iranians had fridges and washing machines were saddening, and revealing. But hardly surprising when you think about how Iran and Iranians are generally characterised in Western discourse. Our mental images of the country involve fearsome black-clad women or angry men chanting "Death to America". Words like "mullahs" (you barely need the prefix "mad" any more), "hardliners" and "threat" are usually linked in the same sentence. A news report about Iran not containing the words "nuclear ambitions", "nuclear scientists" and "terror" seems unimaginable.

Desperate times: Oprah begs her Twitter followers with a Nielsen box to tune into OWN in botched attempt to boost ratings

Oprah rode the tide of militant feminism to the top of the charts, but she has failed to evolve as her audience shifts their focus onto the issues of the 21st century. As much as we may agree with the wisdom of not watching TV watching someone not watching TV is not worth watching. Oprah has lost her connection with the real world.

Zionism and the three-picture deal

What is happening now, however, is more than a revival or renewal of past ties. Hollywood and Israel have become enmeshed in a relationship that is not about a religious awakening or even fervent Zionism — it is a practical business relationship of investment and trade. Determining how Whitney Houston died is expected to take time

Houston had drug and alcohol problems for years, and last May her spokeswoman said she was going back into rehab. The Times reported that days before her death, she had been acting strangely, skipping around a ballroom and reportedly doing handstands near the hotel pool. According to The Times' Gerrick D. Police said at this stage of the probe, they do not have evidence that drugs played a role in Houston's death.

Dear Hollywood: An Open Letter to the Hardworking Men and Women in the Entertainment Industries

Dear Hollywood,

You don’t need us to tell you that your position on anti-"piracy" laws has been unpopular recently. Last month’s historic protests, with millions of Americans registering their opposition, have made that point pretty clear. Instead, we’re writing today to tell you that the Internet can be great for creators and their community, but your own leadership refuses to recognize and take advantage of its promise. It seems they’d rather spend your membership dues on lawyers, lobbyists and astroturf than innovation. We suspect many of you are realizing this, especially when you see how successful new business models can be.

Hollywood Wants To Kill Piracy? No Problem: Just Offer Something Better

Just John points us to a recent Reddit thread, in which a rather basic suggestion is made for how Hollywood could do a much better job killing movie piracy: by offering something better.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I want to share a personal story of how this digital rights management nightmare, designed by lawyers utterly clueless about computers and the real world, encourages piracy.

I have a new computer, purchased recently when my older computer succumbed to planned obsolescence. This new machine is less than a year old. It has a blur-ray capable drive in it, so I decided I wanted a blu-ray player application to watch an occasional movie while I work. I purchased a professional blu-ray application from a company which presumably licenses all the correct technologies. The blu-ray disk I used to test the player is "Avatar", again store bought, totally in compliance, etc. Also very expensive.

But the disk would not play.

I run the special tool that came with the blu-ray player to validate the system and it turns out that there is a new security protocol that has been ordered by the lawyers to make sure that the blu-ray application is playing to a monitor and not to a recording device, and this security protocol has to be implemented in the graphics card. The card is less than a year old and I am being told it is already obsolete in the eyes of the lawyers.

Now, I have to upgrade the card anyway to add a second monitor so I make certain the new card has this special protocol in it.

Again the disk will not play. Again I run the special tool that came with the blu-ray player to validate the system and it turns out that the new security protocol that has been ordered by the lawyers to make sure that the blu-ray application is playing to a monitor and not to a recording device ALSO must be implemented in the monitor as well as the graphics card. Both monitors are less that a year old; one just came home from the store with the upgraded graphics card and it still does not have this special protocol to play the blu-ray disks. So, between the software and the upgraded card, I am down about $130 and several hours and have already forgotten why I wanted to watch the movie in the first place. I think it had something to do with relaxing, but relaxation is now a distant memory.

In about 5 minutes of web searching I find a pirate blu-ray player that plays avatar with the press of s single button. Now, to be honest, I did not keep the pirate player. I wound up deleting all the blu-ray code on my machine and giving the Avatar disk to a neighbor and will not bother wasting any more money and time on trying to watch Hollywood movies until the process is made user friendly rather than lawyer approved. And until Hollywood starts listening to the audience more than to the lawyers, it is doomed.

The Ice is Thin and the Fix is In.

Madonna came on and it was so bad, so excessive, so egotistically off the charts that I couldn't watch. I saw a minute of it here and there with the sound off. I heard enough of the sound to be able to determine that I should shut it off. I'm assuming it's on youtube already.

STANDING OVATION AGAINST THE OCCUPATION

It was refreshing to see a review on an American Jewish Website of a new film against the occupation. Even more refreshing was reading opinions taken in that review that for sure would not be popular in Israel.

Busted: BitTorrent Pirates at Sony, Universal and Fox

With increasing lobbying efforts from the entertainment industry against BitTorrent sites and users, we wondered whether these companies hold themselves to the same standards they demand of others. After some initial skimming we’ve discovered BitTorrent pirates at nearly every major entertainment industry company in the US, including Sony Pictures Entertainment, Fox Entertainment and NBC Universal. Busted.

Tea Party Founder Calls for Movie Boycott

The corruption between “business” and Washington DC has always been present but this particular display is especially brazen, coming from a lobbyist and spokesperson who’s last gig was screwing the American public when the banks ripped everyone off and then went and begged DC for a bailout.

To Doddering Dodd and the MPAA: That sound you hear is my wallet snapping shut.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am willing to go along with this boycott of the movies because frankly, my attendance at movies is already in major decline, partly because I am sick of having Nazis waved at me over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and and also because most movies today are totally politically correct and remind me of the bland and mindless fare on the screens that followed the McCarthy blacklistings which drove the really creative talent out of Hollywood and left film making in the hands of mostly hacks who took their inspiration from the marketing departments. I will see anything made by James Cameron, and look forward to Lucas' new film (and anything he makes going independent), but otherwise, I have sort of already been on a film boycott for some time now.

Tuskegee airman buried in Arlington on day his remarkable story as a WWII fighter is played out in movie theaters across the country

A Tuskegee airman who shot down two German fighter planes while escorting a damaged bomber to its base now lies in Arlington National Cemetery after a burial with special honors.

On the same day that retired Air Force Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr. took his resting place among other war and military heroes, his real-life story as a World War II aviator played out on movie screens across the country.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am taking my wife to see this movie for two reasons.

1. The Red Tails were true heroes, even if Israel shows no gratitude for their stopping Hitler.

2. Hollywood were total jerks to George Lucas, whom I sincerely hopes does what Robert Redford did and starts an independent film institute where victims of the new McCarthyism can go make important movies.

Oscar for best documentary hopefuls to face newspaper review rule

The arcane processes by which films qualify for Oscar consideration took a bizarre twist today when it was revealed that, as of next year, documentaries will need to have been reviewed in the New York Times or Los Angeles Times to qualify.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Meaning that of the documentary is on a subject that either Israel or corporate America does not like (like last year's winner) they can keep it out of the running by simply ignoring it.

I don’t need replies or comments or anything. I need to feel the good that I did and whatever good I have ever done for you is enough for me. May you all have the happy lives you deserve. Thank you all for being in my life.

Love,

Joe

Webmaster's Commentary:

Tragically, after writing this, Joe Bodalai committed suicide. Joe had been a writer for Saturday Night Live and co-wrote the first draft of "Wayne's World", but after going public with his criticism of Israel and his refusal to accept the official story of 9-11, Joe's career in Hollywood evaporated, as happens to those who speak the truth to power.

He couldn't have cared less and told me that if we stood behind a tent, that would be fine. He walked away completely frustrated and yelled at a local assistant: "I am doing YOUR job! Recent Charges of Sexual Abuse of Children in Hollywood Just Tip of Iceberg, Experts Say

Revelations of this sort come as no surprise to former child star Corey Feldman.

Feldman, 40, himself a survivor of childhood sexual abuse, unflinchingly warned of the world of pedophiles who are drawn to the entertainment industry last August. "I can tell you that the No. 1 problem in Hollywood was and is and always will be pedophilia,” Feldman told ABC’s Nightline. “That's the biggest problem for children in this industry... It's the big secret.”

‘Sesame Street’ composer pleads not guilty to child porn charges

A Grammy-winning musician who’s composed for the likes of Walt Disney and the childrens’ television show “Sesame Street” pleaded not guilty on Monday to child pornography charges he’s facing in South Carolina.

Quoting court records, the paper said that Rivas was caught with images of a a little girl, 4, naked and restrained in handcuffs “and other bondage type devices.”

Yacht captain blames Robert Wagner for Natalie Wood's death

At the time, L.A. County Coroner Thomas T. Noguchi ruled the death an accident, saying that Wood had slipped while trying to enter a dinghy and drowned. Bruises on Wood's left cheek were consistent with her having fallen and striking the yacht as she went into the water, he said at a news conference days after her death.

"It was not a homicide. It was not a suicide. It was an accident," Noguchi said.

Webmaster's Commentary:

L.A. County Coroner Thomas T. Noguchi, aka the "coroner to the stars", is also notorious for two other autopsies suspected of being "less than 100% accurate", those of Marilyn Monroe and of Robert F. Kennedy.

AIPAC Hollywood junket to Israel meets protest

Last night, the actors held a press conference at the Dan Hotel in Tel Aviv in which they detailed their itinerary, which includes visits to Sderot and Ramallah, a tour of the Yad Vashem Holocaust Museum and a visit to an absorption center for Ethiopian immigrants. Actress Patricia Arquette ("Medium" ) said the goal of the trip was to learn about the "nuances" of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Actor Richard Schiff ("The West Wing" ) added that when they return to the United States, they plan to share what they have learned with their friends and others.

Natalie Wood: LA police reopen actress' death inquiry

Police in the US have reopened an inquiry into the death of film star Natalie Wood, who drowned in 1981.

Los Angeles police said they had received new information relating to the case, but have not given details.

Wood was found dead during a boat trip off the coast of California and her death was ruled to have been an accident at the time. She was 43.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Natalie was in the middle of filming "Brainstorm" when she died, the first film to use Doug Trumbell's "Showscan" system, and this being before the era of realistic computer copies of actors, the loss of Natalie forced a major re-edit of the film that never quite worked right. As for myself, I was working on the FOX lot at the time of her death on the remake of "Valley of the Dolls". Robert Wagner was filming his series "Hart to Hart" on the next stage over, and rumors were thick about Wagner's more-than-platonic relationship with co-star Stefanie Powers, and Robert's unease that Natalie's career eclipsed his own. (Cue "Send in the clowns"). During my own rag-setter adventures I put into Twin Harbors at Catalina many times and there were rumors long afterwards that Natalie's death had been anything but an accident.

Thirty years is a long time to wait for justice, but I hope it finally does happen. Too many people get away with murder in Hollywood.

My favorite Natalie performance was as Maggie Dubois in Blake Edward's "The Great Race" opposite Tony Curtiss.

“Space Jews” in Science Fiction

Curiously, it’s OK for science fiction writers to create Jewish-type races on other planets. One reason science fiction writers have gotten away with this is that the ADL would look ridiculous if they complained that a certain mythical alien race seemed “too Jewish”. For example, let’s say the Ferengi are unethical, repulsive, prone to cheating and theft and completely money-obsessed. If the ADL steps forward and whines about how “Jewish” the Ferengi are, the ADL would be admitting that Jews are unethical, repulsive, prone to cheating and theft and completely money-obsessed.

This is a very strange dichotomy that “Space Jews” can be described in great detail, but any suggestion that a race of money-obsessed people have evolved on this planet is completely banned from polite society.
