US military chief visits Israel amid tensions with Iran

The top U.S. general made an unannounced visit to Israel on Friday to discuss “regional security challenges” at a time of heightened tensions with Iran and its allies across the Middle East.

Army Gen. Mark Milley, the Joint Chiefs chairman, met with senior Israeli military and intelligence leaders at an air base in southern Israel and held a video conference with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The visit came days after an air raid on the Syrian capital, Damascus, suspected to have been carried out by Israel, killed five foreign fighters, including a member of the Iran-backed Hezbollah.

Late on Friday, the Israeli military said its attack helicopters struck several positions of the Syrian army in response to unspecified munitions that were fired on the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The targets in southern Syria included observation posts and intelligence collection systems, according to a statement from the military.

Trump’s All-Stick, No-Carrot Approach Has Brought Two US Adversaries Together

Chinese investment in Iran is not a new phenomenon. The Persian Gulf nation is a critical corridor for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s $1 trillion Belt and Road infrastructure initiative. Iran has increasingly benefited from tens of billions of dollars in credit from China’s state-backed financial institutions. Beijing has a hand in wide swaths of the Iranian market, including the transportation, nuclear, and energy sectors.

A draft strategic partnership agreement, however, takes Beijing’s investment in Iran to a new level. Reports that Beijing and Tehran have settled on a $400 billion accord covering 100 separate projects across the Iranian banking, telecommunications, port, and oil industry—not to mention increased cooperation between the two nations in weapons development and intelligence—is a reflection of the importance the Chinese Communist Party attaches to the untapped Iranian market.

'Flagrant violation': Iran protests US jet approach at UN

Iran has protested the "flagrant violation" of international law to the United Nations after it said United States fighter jets sparked panic on an Iranian passenger plane over Syria.

Iran's state-run television broadcast footage of Thursday's incident with passengers screaming as the pilot of a Mahan Air plane on a flight from Tehran to Beirut changed altitude to avoid collision with a US fighter jet.

A passenger with blood running down his forehead and another who had fallen to the floor were seen in the video, and one jet could be seen through the window in the video.

‘You’re almost dying but can’t do anything about it’: Iranian plane passengers tell Ruptly about encounter with US fighter jets

What the US Air Force called a routine “visual inspection” of an Iranian commercial plane in Syrian skies turned out to be horror for everyone on board, passengers told RT’s Ruptly video agency shortly after the drama ended.

Adam Hazimah and Feryal al-Ali, a Lebanese couple, were among dozens of passengers who boarded Mahan Airlines Flight 1152 which departed from Tehran earlier on Thursday. Bound for Beirut, Lebanon, the Airbus A310 crossed into Syrian airspace later in the day, with neither passengers nor pilots knowing what lay ahead.

As the plane flew over the Syrian desert close to the Iraqi border, passengers were shocked to see what appeared to be a pair of grey-painted F-15 fighter jets close to their aircraft. Iranian media also reported that there were two warplanes, though the Pentagon later said only one jet was sent to perform a “visual inspection” and see if the commercial plane posed any danger to the US forces at Al-Tanf military base in Syria.

Explosion Hits Central Iranian Power Plant Few Weeks After Natanz Nuclear Site Blast

The blast occurred a few weeks after an explosion ripped through Iran's Natanz facility for enriching uranium, in an incident that was reportedly caused by a bomb.

An explosion took place at a power plant in Iran's central Isfahan Province on Sunday, the country's IRNA news agency reports.

The news outlet cited Saeid Mohseni, chief executive of Esfahan Power Generation Co., as saying that the blast did not disrupt the plant's electricity supply to customers.

The JCPOA at 5: How the U.S. squandered an unprecedented diplomatic opening with Iran

The deal was never intended as a grand bargain. But by stopping the nuclear capability clock for a decade and a half, with intrusive inspections, it offered an off ramp, an ecosystem conducive to diplomacy and a stepping stone to a mutually brighter future.

President Trump’s impatience has proven costly. Iran has reduced its compliance with the nuclear deal and floats consideration of abandoning it altogether and the NPT as well.

If change is to take place, as much effort, persistence, financial resources, and patience should be devoted to diplomatic solutions as has been devoted to sanctions and pressure.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The reason President Trump did this, is that he can only see Iran, and its political and economic struggles, through the jaundiced perspective of Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, who continually describes Iran as an "existential threat" to Israel, when the "threat" is primarily economic in nature, rather than existential.

Recently, Iran's Chief Rabbi, Yehuda Gerami, made the following statement:
"There is a big difference between Zionism and Judaism," says Rabbi who also hails former Quds Force commander Qassem Soleimani as a "national hero."

Iran's chief rabbi: The Israeli government doesn't care about Judaism

The article goes on to state: "The chief rabbi of Iran's Jewish community, Yehuda Gerami, lambasted the Israeli government on Sunday, denied any connection between Judaism and Zionism and said there was "total freedom of religion" in Iran.

In a Hebrew-language interview with Al-Monitor, published Sunday and broadcast on Israel's Channel 12, Gerami denied that the conflict between Iran and Israel is a religious one and took aim at the Israeli government.

People tend to get confused, but there is a big difference between Zionism and Judaism. Judaism is a religion that is 3,300 years old, while Zionism is a national and political movement that is just 100 years old. As a country, the State of Israel has nothing to do with religion in general and Judaism in particular," he said.

"The Israeli government doesn't care about Judaism at all. Everything that they supposedly give to the Orthodox is because of some political deal or other, and not because of their religious approach," said Gerami."

What Netanyahu is trying to conjure, is for the US to confront Iran militarily, so that it's "the others of the earth" who get their hands dirty with yet another immoral, illegal war, with no basis in realty; in the 20th and 21st century, the US government has excelled in such wars..

But he is going to have to do this well before the elections, because, unfortunately, President Trump is just unhinged enough, and completely under Netanyahu's Svengali-like influence, to think he can justify such a war with the American people; he cannot, and I would like to hope that there is at least one "adult in the room" who can dissuade him from such an insane act, because such a war... will most probably mean a war with Russia as well.

Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

Time is very much running out for Netanyahu to get this to happen, as we are are at the end of July, and the election happens 3 November; unfortunately, however, with Netanyahu a politically wounded animal, facing massive corruption charges in Israel, one cannot tell of what he might be truly capable, to divert attention from this trial, and plunge the world, if he thinks this is "the only way out" of his trial woes.

China: World must stop US push to reinstate Iran sanctions, kill JCPOA

China has reaffirmed its firm support for the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and five other world states, calling on the international community to put pressure on the US — which left the deal in 2018 — to abandon a hostile push to reinstate sanctions against Tehran and deal even more blows to the multilateral accord.

Speaking on the occasion of the fifth anniversary of the conclusion of the deal, named the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Hua Chunying on Monday hailed the accord as an efficient and successful model of multilateral diplomacy in resolving international issues.

“The JCPOA has become a key element of the international nuclear non-proliferation system, an important positive factor in maintaining regional and global peace and stability, and good practice of resolving regional hotspot issues through multilateral approaches,” she said.

Zarif: Iran will keep trying to send Yemen relief aid despite Saudi siege

Despite the ongoing restrictions and setbacks, Iran will keep up its efforts to transfer humanitarian aid to Yemen, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif says, denouncing continuation of the Saudi-led war and siege against the impoverished country as “unacceptable.”

Zarif made the remarks on Tuesday during a video-call with Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, his counterpart from the Yemeni National Salvation Government.

Yemen’s popular Houthi Ansarullah movement formed the government together with its allies in 2016 to undertake administration of the country’s internal affairs.

The allies were forced to come together after Yemen’s former Riyadh-allied government fled the country amid a political deadlock, refusing to stay behind and negotiate power.

Tehran Rejected Washington’s Demand for No Response to Soleimani’s Assassination - Iranian Deputy FM

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mohsen Baharvand alleges that Tehran immediately rejected Washington’s attempt at preventing a retaliatory attack by Iranian forces, shortly after the January assassination of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Quds Force commander Major General Qasem Soleimani.

“The US had sent a message to Iran via the Swiss ambassador (whose mission also acts as Washington’s interests section in Tehran) to demand Iran not to give a response, but it was rejected immediately,” Baharvand said on Sunday, as reported by Iran’s Fars News Agency.

The January 3 assassination strike near Baghdad International Airport also killed Deputy Commander of Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, four IRGC officers and four PMF troops. IRGC forces responded on January 7 with ballistic missile strikes on Al Asad Airbase and an airbase near Erbil, both facilities in Iraq which house US troops.

Iran informs JCPOA Joint Commission of Europeans' violation of commitments: Senior diplomat

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Abbas Araqchi says the three European signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal with Iran have not abided by their commitments and this is why Iran has requested activation of the deal’s dispute resolution mechanism in a letter to the European Union’s foreign policy chief.

The EU foreign policy chief said on July 3 that he had received a letter from Iran that demands triggering the dispute resolution mechanism of the nuclear deal over the failure of the three European signatories to the agreement to honor their commitments.

Josep Borrell said the letter written by Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif referred Iran's concerns regarding the implementation of issues on the part of France, Germany and Britain to the Joint Commission of the nuclear deal -- officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) -- for resolution through the dispute process set out in the agreement's paragraph 36.

Iran-China deal to ditch dollar, bypass US sanctions: Leader’s advisor

An advisor to Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei says a pending roadmap for strategic partnership between Iran and China is to help ditch the dollar in bilateral trade and bypass illegal and unilateral US sanctions.

Ali Aqa-Mohammadi said the 25-year document is more than an “agreement” which usually encompass just a certain issue.

The official said the partnership roadmap solidifies the two countries’ economic and defensive cooperation by protecting their dealings from “third-party intervention.”

It would “close up and eliminate the key spots,” where sanctions, including those targeting defense cooperation between the two countries, could be implemented, he noted.

China Inks Military Deal With Iran Under Secretive 25-Year Plan

Last August, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Zarif, paid a visit to his China counterpart, Wang Li, to present a roadmap on a comprehensive 25-year China-Iran strategic partnership that built upon a previous agreement signed in 2016. Many of the key specifics of the updated agreement were not released to the public at the time but were uncovered by OilPrice.com at the time.

One of the secret elements of the deal signed last year is that China will invest US$280 billion in developing Iran’s oil, gas, and petrochemicals sectors.

Iran Says Radar Operator "Forgot" To Make Crucial Adjustment, Leading To Airline Downing

Iran has made a key announcement revealing shocking details behind the tragic downing of Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 shortly after it took off from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airport on January 8. All 176 passengers and crew were killed when it exploded in the sky after direct missile impact.

Recall that the Islamic Republic and the US were on the brink of war over the US assassination by drone of IRGC Quds Force chief Qassem Soleimani in Baghdad days prior, and that two surface-to-air missiles took out the passenger aircraft, mistaking it for an inbound American attack.

After six Iranians were arrested in June over the accidental shoot down, with no details or identification given, Tehran officials announced Saturday that it was ultimately triggered by human error related to monitoring defensive radar. Personnel "forgot" to make a crucial radar adjustment after resetting the defensive system, Iran's Civil Aviation Organization (CAO) said.

US Warns Iran and China Against Major Investment and Security Deal

The exact terms haven’t been announced, but Iranian officials are reporting that they are close to finalizing a major deal with China that would expand security ties, and greatly expand economic ties, including in the all-important banking sector.

This stands to benefit both China and Iran considerably, but runs counter to US interests in isolating both of them internationally, leading the State Department to oppose the deal and threaten to impose more costs on Iran and China if they try to make the deal.

Despite US anger, Iran keeps looking to make deals with other nations the US is hostile toward. Recent trade with Venezuela has been met with a furious US backlash. Similar anger can be expected with this new deal with China.

Syrian president: Iran-Syria military accord rooted in years of anti-terror cooperationThursday, 09 July 2020 4:48 PM  [ Last Update: Thursday, 09 July 2020 5:22 PM

Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad says the recent military agreement signed by Damascus and Tehran is the result of years of cooperation in fighting against terrorism in the Arab country.

The Syrian president made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Chairman of the Chiefs of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri in capital Damascus on Thursday, a statement by Syrian presidential office said.

“This agreement reflects the strategic level of relations between Iran and Syria and is the outcome of years of common measures and cooperation in the fight against terrorism in Syria,” Assad said.

Baqeri, for his part, underlined “the importance of Iran’s continued efforts aimed at boosting bilateral ties between the two friendly and brotherly nations in all fields.”

Israel’s Sabotage of Natanz Shows Shift to Direct Attacks on Iran Program

Israel has been picking up its attacks against Iran in recent weeks, notably a recent sabotage of the Natanz uranium enrichment site, which analysts are seeing as a sign that Israel is looking to directly attack Iran’s civilian program.

This is hardly the first time Israel has done that, and the Natanz strategy of cyberattacks as sabotage are in line with past efforts. Iran’s civilian nuclear program does not have military dimensions, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be targeted.

Israel tends to attack Iran for non-specific reasons, beyond general hostility, and in recent weeks Israeli officials have called for the nation to be on alert in case all the attacking of Iran leads to retaliation.

Israel's attacks on Iran's nuclear sites signal a new phase of conflict

Over the past week, mysterious explosions and fires have wracked key infrastructure connected to Iran’s nuclear programme at Natanz and Parchin, key facilities engaged in uranium enrichment and the production of rocket fuel for ballistic missiles.

The US and Israel have accused Iran of violating UN resolutions and the nuclear deal in testing new ballistic-missile technology. Although Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has repeatedly denied any intent to create nuclear weapons, even going so far as to issue a fatwa against it, Iran’s enemies are convinced it plans to “go nuclear”.

The recent attacks appear to be an attempt by a hostile state to degrade that programme and delay Iran’s ability to potentially send such weapons to targets outside of Iran. Tehran has said that a cyberattack could be behind the explosion at Natanz, which destroyed a building that allegedly housed an advanced centrifuge system that could increase the speed of enrichment by up to 50 times.

US’ Illegal Killing of Soleimani ‘Same Deal’ as Past Wars Over ‘Sphere of Influence’ - Journo

In a recent report, a United Nations expert found the January killing of Iranian Major General Qasem Soleimani by a US drone strike was against international law. One journalist told Sputnik the killing fit a long pattern of the US destroying places it cannot control, which is linked to the proliferation of poverty in the US.

Kei Pritsker, a journalist with BreakThrough News, told Radio Sputnik’s Political Misfits Tuesday that “for most of US history, we’ve just attacked countries purely out of our interest to extend our sphere of influence for power and take out governments we don’t like, and it’s really the same deal with Qasem Soleimani.”

Iran brags that new ‘missile cities’ are nightmare for enemies

In the Iranian rhetoric playbook, every failure must be met with an equal and opposite claim to some form of success. The failure of Iran to protect critical infrastructure, as well as a series of explosions at a missile factory and nuclear site over the last week and a half, led Tehran to point to new “missile cities” as part of its arsenal, which makes it a “nightmare” for enemies. What is a “missile city” and why is Iran talking about this now?

The comments were made Sunday by Iran naval chief R.-Adm. Alireza Tangsiri, who said Iran has “underground cities that house vessels and missiles.” The entire shoreline of southern Iran has these weapons, he asserted.

Leader: Iran, as ever, will spare no effort to fight off Israeli evil

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has assured Palestinian resistance fighters that as ever, Iran always has their back and will not forsake its duty of confronting the occupying Israeli regime’s evil nature.

Ayatollah Khamenei addressed the remarks to Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political bureau of the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas, in a letter dated Saturday.

“The Islamic Republic, as before, does not stint on any effort to support the oppressed Palestinian people, redress their rights, and also fight off the bogus and usurping Zionist regime’s evil,” the Leader noted.

Iran stays true to the cause in line with its religious and humanitarian duty and also in keeping with the value-based principles of its Islamic Revolution, the letter noted.

Iran operates underground missile cities along southern shores: IRGC commander

Iran’s Armed Forces have developed underground missile cities along the country’s entire southern shores, including the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman, says the commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy.

Brigadier General Alireza Tangsiri made the remarks in a detailed interview whose text was published on Sunday, noting that such cities accommodate both naval vessels and missiles.

“We [in the Iranian Armed Forces] have underground cities, which house both vessels and missiles,” the commander said, adding, “Our entire shoreline [in southern Iran] is equipped with [various types of] arms.”

Tangsiri emphasized, “Our shoreline is equipped with weapons and there is no chanting about it.”

Israel DM: Israel Not Necessarily Behind All Iran Attacks

The latest in a flurry of incidents in Iran, all of which have been blamed on Israel, saw explosions and fire last week at Natanz nuclear site. Iran initially downplayed the seriousness of the fire, though they’ve since admitted the damage was more severe.

Earlier reports were that this was some dissident group, but reports of sabotage later led to claims Israel carried out the attack as a cyberattack causing the damage. Israel has, of course, regularly attacked Iran, particularly with cyberattacks.

Israel hasn’t officially commented on what happened at Natanz, and still hasn’t, as on Sunday Defense Minister Benny Gantz cautioned that it was “not necessarily” Israel behind attacks just because they happened in Iran.

Iran Admits Fire in Natanz Is a Setback to Centrifuge Program

Last week, an incident of “sabotage” was reported on the site of Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment facility. The fire was claimed to have damaged a shed, and Iran said at the time that damage was minimal, there were no casualties, and no radiation leaks.

Over the weekend, experts began warning that damage was much worse than previously admitted. Fire appears to have wiped out an above-ground lab, leveling it, and Iranian officials concede it has set back their centrifuge program substantially.

Satellite images showed broader damage on the surface, though it is not believed the centrifuges, which are installed underground, had anything happen to them. Either way, the fire and sabotage are more substantial than was initially understood.

US Moves To Seize Iran Petroleum On New Tanker Group Bound For Venezuela

Via AlMasdarNews.com,

US prosecutors will seek to put an end to Iran’s oil deliveries to Venezuela, as they have filed a new suit to seize the contents on these tankers.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the U.S. prosecutors are targeting the oil from four Iranian tankers, along with the payments between Tehran and Caracas.

Iranian oil tankers off the port of Bandar Abbas, via AFP.

Tehran will help fund the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), who Washington has designated as a terrorist organization.

“[These payments] support the IRGC’s full range of nefarious activities, including the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery, support for terrorism, and a variety of human rights abuses, at home and abroad”, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Zia Faruqui claims in the filing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump seems to believe, magically, that he can flout international law because he wants a specific outcome to happen here, through a muscular "mis-juxtapositioning" of American law, and this is not the first time Faruqui has tried to pull this this, as you will see about with a similar attempt against Syria:

Unsealed Warrant and Forfeiture Complaint Seek Seizure of Oil Tanker “Grace 1” for Unlawful Use of U.S. Financial System to Support and Finance Sale of Oil Products to Syria

This happened in August of last year.

I have to wonder just how far Putin is going to let this madness play out, until he feels forced to act, and what he will do when he feels he has no other course to play, than to protect Iranian and Venezuelan commerce.

Explosion in Iran's Natanz Nuclear Facility Caused by Bomb, Report Claims

An explosion at one of Iran's most important nuclear facilities, Natanz, took place on Thursday, damaging the power plant, but leaving its reactor intact. The cause of the explosion has not been officially confirmed.

An explosion at the Natanz nuclear power plant in Iran's Isfahan was caused by an "explosive device planted inside the facility", The New York Times reported, citing an unnamed Middle East intelligence official.

According to the official cited, the blast destroyed "much of the aboveground parts" of the facility, where cutting-edge centrifuges had been placed before being put into operation.

US Prosecutors Try to Seize Iranian Fuel Destined for Venezuela via Court - Report

Iran has recently been helping Venezuela, another nation hit by US sanctions, by supplying it with fuel after the country's own refineries lost most of their capacity to work with the ultra-heavy blend of crude extracted from Venezuela’s oilfields, leading to petrol shortages.

The US has made another attempt to stop the oil trade between Venezuela and Iran as federal prosecutors have filed a new suit seeking to seize gasoline that Tehran has purportedly sent to Caracas in four tankers, The Wall Street Journal reported. According to the newspaper, Washington is looking to both stop the delivery of gasoline to Venezuela as well as the payments for the shipped resources, which will allegedly be used to fund the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – a branch of the Iranian Armed Forces that the US has designated as a "terrorist organisation".

Russia says the United States’ controversial bid to extend an arms embargo on Iran that is expected to expire under Tehran’s nuclear deal with world countries jeopardizes the prospect of the agreement’s continued preservation.

Speaking on Thursday, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said the US push was “not only unjustified but also counterproductive in terms of the prospects of preserving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA),” Russia’s Sputnik news agency reported.

She was referring by official name to the landmark deal that was reached between Iran and the P5+1 group -- the US, Britain, France, Russia, and China plus Germany -- in 2015 in Vienna.

Iran Issues ‘Murder and Terrorism’ Arrest Warrant for Trump Over Soleimani Assassination

The Iranian government on Monday issued an arrest warrant for U.S. President Donald Trump and recommended that he face “murder and terrorism charges” over the January assassination of Gen. Qasem Soleimani that brought the two nations to the brink of all-out war.

Ali al-Qasimehr, Tehran’s top prosecutor, said Iran is also seeking the arrest of 35 other unnamed officials the country believes were involved in the assassination of Soleimani, who was a leading commander in the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

“The 36 individuals who were involved in the assassination of Qasem Soleimani have been identified and they include political and military officials from the U.S. and other governments,” al-Qasimehr said during a meeting of the Iranian judiciary Monday. “At the top of the list is U.S. President Donald Trump, and his prosecution will be pursued even after the end of his term in office.”

Netanyahu Warns Assad Not to Ally With Iran’s Ayatollahs, Hints Israeli Ops in Syria Will Continue

The Israeli Air Force has carried out hundreds of strikes in Syria in recent years, justifying air and missile attacks by accusing Iran of trying to establish a proxy presence in the Arab Republic. Damascus has denied these claims, and accused Tel Aviv of blatant aggression.

Israel will continue its military operations against Iran in Syria to prevent its entrenchment in that country, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced.

“We are absolutely resolved to prevent Iran from entrenching itself militarily in our immediate vicinity,” Netanyahu said, speaking to reporters at the start of a meeting with US Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook on Tuesday.

“I say this to the ayatollahs in Tehran: Israel will continue to take the actions necessary to prevent you from creating another terror and military front against Israel. And I say to Bashar al-Assad: You’re risking the future of your country and your regime,” Netanyahu added.

The Fall of Eliot Engel: Israel-Firster Defeated in Congressional Primary

Sometimes listening to the morning news on television is a bit like entering into an alternate universe. Last Wednesday, the day after primary elections in New York State, CBS News reported that New York Congressman Eliot Engel was “facing a challenge” from Democratic Party challenger Jamaal Bowman. NBC News reported that Engel was “trailing.” The reality, according to the New York Times tally of the results that morning was that Bowman had beaten Engel by a margin to 60.9% versus 35.6% with more than 82% of votes counted. Even though it posted the numbers, the Times felt compelled to describe the apparently impending lopsided loss as if it were something less than that, as a “stiff challenge” for Engel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

We need to advocate, peacefully and logically, for the end of tenure for ALL Israeli-firsters in Congress; if these people are so Israel-centric, they need to leave this country, adopt Israeli citizenship, and run for the Knesset!!

I, for one, am very tired of what this "special relationship" has wrought for this country, in both blood and money, and think it is past the time for the US to examine who its real "friends" are on this planet.

While the World Burns, the Road Map to War with Iran Continues

Let’s face it, the long prediction held by many all agree on one thing, the US empire is on the way into the dustbins of history, but not without a fight to the end. Geopolitically speaking, the US military-industrial complex is still occupying Afghanistan and Iraq and is seeking to increase tensions with China, Iran and Venezuela. It will cost the US taxpayers trillions of dollars more on top of the trillions already spent on war, covert actions involving intelligence gathering, targeted assassinations and regime change operations. There is also the fact that several major powers including Russia, China, Iran and several others are dumping US dollars to reduce their exposure to sanctions constantly imposed by Washington.

No End to Illegal US Sanctions War on Iran

Last week, militantly hostile to Iran Pompeo said the following:

The Trump regime is “clear about our expectations (and) goals (sic).”

“We (demand that) the Islamic Republic of Iran behave like a normal nation (sic).”

“We’re happy to engage in conversations with them when the time is right (sic)…”

“(C)onditions that suggest somehow we give a bunch of money to the Iranians so they can foment terror around the world is simply ludicrous (sic).”

“It’s just not how (the Trump regime) behaves (sic).”

Fact: Intentions of both right wings of the US one-party state are crystal clear — seeking dominance over planet earth, its resources and populations by whatever it takes to achieve its objectives, war by hot and other means its favored strategies.

Fact: Even-handed US engagement with other nations was long ago abandoned. Demanding subservience to its interests replaced it.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, to this administration, hard-won, moral negotiations are a completely unknown process with which their members don't want to wrap their brains around, and this administration's actions may put us head-to-head with Russia and China if we invade Iran.

Mr. President; a war against Iran is a really horrific idea; should Russia and China get involved, we may be looking at putting this world into a state which is unrecoverable, due to potential nuclear exchanges.

A security spokesman for an Iran-backed militia issued a statement on Friday threatening Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi, describing him as an “American agent,” following an overnight raid on the group by security forces.

The Iran-backed Kata’ib Hezbollah security spokesperson threatened al-Kadhimi with punishment, or “torture” after the raid that led to the arrest of over a dozen fighters, which sent a strong message to militias, warning against attacking Iraqi facilities.

Shots Fired: Saudi Arabia Forced 3 Iranian Boats From Its Territorial Waters

A rare moment where Saudi and Iranian vessels were in a direct standoff in what described as Saudi territorial waters has been revealed Saturday by Saudi state news agency SPA.

Saudi Arabia says its coast guard forced no less than three Iranian vessels out of its territorial waters after firing warning shots.

While it's unclear whether the Iranian boats had military personnel or perhaps civilian fishermen, the Saudi maritime border patrol issued repeated warnings, and then fired shots signaling it was ready to engage, SPA described.

Pompeo Mocked For Saying Iranian Jets Could Strike "Asia" Through "One Way" Flights

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is being widely mocked by American pundits and defense analysts for his latest tweet arguing for the extension of the UN Arms Embargo on Iran set to expire based on prior 2015 JCPOA UN agreements.

In a weird last-ditch appeal to members of the UN Security Council, Pompeo argues Iran's air force could attack... Asia?

Bolton: Trump Gave Bibi Green Light For Preemptive Israeli Strike On Iran Nuclear Sites

Among the new revelations and interesting tidbits found in John Bolton's now leaked pre-published edition of “The Room Where It Happened: A White House Memoir,” is that President Trump was said to be prepared to endorse an Israeli preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear sites.

In a section which describes the "elusive search" for an Arab-Israeli peace deal, Bolton writes that Trump told him at a moment of increased Israeli concerns over Iran's nuclear development:

"You tell Bibi that if he uses force, I will back him. I told him that, but you tell him again."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Apparently, Bolton and Trump both suffer from a collective, and severe, case of SMD (Selective Memory Disorder)

Apparently, both gentlemen have "conveniently forgotten" a Diplomatic conclave, held last summer in Russia, where a Russian diplomat assured his Iranian counterpart of the following: Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

The article goes on to state: "“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow.

When asked if Russia was ready to provide material support to Iran if the U.S. attacks it, Kabulov said that “specific actions are a question for the Russian president.”

“But it’s not just Russia, many other countries sympathize and empathize with Iran,” the Kommersant business daily quoted him as saying. “Tehran won’t be alone if the U.S., God forbid, takes wild and irresponsible actions against it.”

Career diplomats like Kabulov don't even "break wind" without Putin's express blessing, so if he made that statement in this meeting, you can bet your sweet bippy that Putin is putting his very considerable geopolitical weight behind Iran NOT getting invaded or bombed by the US.

A proxy war for Israel against Iran, with Russia coming in on Iran's side?!?

Is THIS how completely, insanely stupid this administration has become?!?

China, Russia see US 'bullying' as IAEA adopts anti-Iran resolution

China and Russia have rebuked the International Atomic Energy Agency for giving in to US "bullying" as the IAEA's board of governor on Friday passed a resolution critical of Iran for the first time since 2012.

The resolution, submitted by France, Britain and Germany, comes at a time when the United States is working to extend an arms embargo against Iran.

Diplomats attending the Friday meeting in Vienna were cited as saying that the resolution called on Iran to allow access to two former sites mentioned in two IAEA reports.

Iranian officials have said Tehran has responded to all outstanding questions about its nuclear activities and the IAEA has repeatedly confirmed it. The new questions, they say, have been raised based on information fabricated by Israel.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Folks, this is a demonstration by the IAEA as to just how intensely the US and Israel have grabbed it by a very sensitive portion of the human anatomy, and is forcing it to go along with their agenda, which is a pretext for a war against Iran.

I cannot tell you who I think will win the Presidential elections here in the US in November, but I am almost prepared to bet real money on the following; no matter who gets elected, we will most likely see this country go back to a draft as a preparation for this, and other, endless wars of conquest and occupation.

And this time, the Federal Government will be coming after both our young men and our young women.

Iran Defiantly Touts Domestic 'New Generation Cruise Missiles' In Naval Drills Near Gulf

Amid crushing US sanctions aimed at strangling its defense, aviation and nuclear development sectors, Iran is increasingly focused on ramping up high tech domestic missile defense production.

Ultimately it hopes to showcase its domestic military wares to signal the West that sanctions aren't working. In its latest test Iran's Navy displayed the abilities of newly developed land-to-sea and sea-to-sea cruise missiles.

The drills were conducted in the Sea of Oman and Indian Ocean this week, and involved live-fire tests against targets nearly 300km away, which Iranian media said were successful.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I don't know if I would characterize this test as "defiant" (and there are moments when I have to wonder how much the collective writers using the "nom de plume" Tyler Durden at zerohedge.com have invested in defense stocks; this is not a criticism, just an occasional observation).

I would, rather, characterize this test as an expression of "If you won't let us buy it, we'll make it ourselves!"

Lavrov says, after meeting Zarif, Russia will do 'everything' to preserve nuclear deal between Iran and world powers.

President Trump declared a national emergency last Thursday — but it wasn’t about the covid-19 pandemic or police brutality or nationwide protests. Iran's IRGC Gears Up For 'Routine' Fuel Shipments To Venezuela, Defying Trump

Here we go again — Iran is prepping a round two of major sanctions-busting gas delivery to fuel-starved Venezuela, which is of course rich on heavy crude oil but currently lacks the capacity to refine it based on its derelict and badly in need of repair facilities.

Amid continued White House threats of military intervention to uphold a sanctions blockade on the Latin American country, “Iran may send two or three shipments per month in regular sales of gasoline to Venezuela,” reports Reuters.

It's a clear direct challenge to the Trump administration, after both "rogue" states last month celebrated five Iranian tankers loaded with gasoline successfully making it to Venezuela and offloading fuel, for which Maduro sent a military escort which included jets, helicopters, and naval patrols.

‘Proud to be one of the ‘bad actors’ on RT,’ says Rose McGowan after DHS report smearing channel for coverage of BLM protests

American actress Rose McGowan said she is “proud” to be one of the so-called “bad actors” appearing on RT after the US Department of Homeland Security criticized the channel for covering protests over George Floyd's death.
In a bulletin reported this week, the DHS accused Russia, China and Iran of using state-owned media to “amplify criticism” of the US in relation to Floyd's death in May. The unarmed black man died at the hands of a police officer who kneeled on his neck for nine minutes ignoring his pleas for life.

Webmaster's Commentary:

But what if some of this coverage is actually reasonable, and just?!?

It would appear to me that DHS has some fundamentally more important things to do in this country..... perhaps like, peacefully, taking back the autonomous zone in Seattle, known now by the acronym CHAZ, if that is possible?!?

How long is it's mayor willing to allow what is happening to continue, and at what point will the devolution here be made to stop?!?

That question right now.... is anyone's guess.

UPDATE: this is now called "Capitol Hill Occupied Protests, or CHOP for short. (Sigh; either way, these protestors are looking at a world of hurt, if they believe this is going to be allowed to become a permanent, "no-go" encampment zone.)

US Sends F-35s to Middle East, Likely Targeting Iran

The US is sending a new group of F-35s to the Middle East, though exactly why is subject to speculation, as Centcom’s report was just a list of things the costly plane could conceivably do.

Things like close air support are capabilities, but not strengths, and the US has other planes better suited to that role. This is fueling speculation that the move is aimed at Iran.

There seems no particular reason to be after Iran just now, but US hostility toward Iran comes and goes like the seasons, so it is as good an explanation as any.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears to me that the US military is sending these fighter jets around, so that they can appear as though they are actually "doing something", when in reality, many of the critical infrastructure problems have never gotten fixed.

Five F-35 issues have been downgraded, but they remain unsolved

The article goes on to state: "The F-35 Joint Program Office has put in place stopgap fixes for five key technical flaws plaguing America’s top-end fighter jet, but the problems have not been completely eliminated.

Last June, Defense News reported exclusive details about 13 major technical issues, known as category 1 deficiencies, impacting the F-35. The JPO has since quietly downgraded five of those issues to the lesser category 2."

IRANIAN OIL TANKERS DEFY US THREATS, ENTER VENEZUELAN WATERS

SOURCE: MIDDLE EAST MONITOR
Iran ignored warnings of retaliation from the US as the first of five Iranian tankers entered Venezuela’s exclusive economic zone on Saturday.

The tanker, named Fortune, reached the Venezuela’s territorial waters at around 7:40 pm after passing north of Trinidad and Tobago in the Carribean, according to vessel-tracking data.

Tareck El Aissami, Venezuela’s economy vice president said: “The ships from the fraternal Islamic Republic of Iran are now in our exclusive economic zone.”

Venezuelan state television showed images of a navy ship and aircraft preparing to meet it.

The defense minister had pledged that the military would escort the tankers once they reached Venezuela’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) due to what authorities described as threats from the United States.

The five tankers are carrying a staggering 1.53 million barrels of gasoline and alkylate to Venezuela, according to both governments, and sources.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I am glad that this situation did not devolve into a shooting war yet; President Trump was wise not to carry through with his threats, because considering how badly the Venezuelan economy is going, coupled with a massive spike in Covid 19 cases, such actions would have truly made the US to look like a real bully in the region.

“The United States And Israel Have Created An Unbreakable Alliance Between Syria, Iran, And Hezbollah.”

20 years after Israel’s unconditional departure from Lebanon, what has been achieved?

Following its defeat in the Second Lebanon War, Israel discovered that the only way to suppress Hezbollah would be to close the supply line between Lebanon and Syria.

This could only be achieved by removing President Bashar al-Assad from power, altering the “Axis of Resistance” stretching from Tehran to Baghdad, Damascus, Beirut and Gaza. But Israel and the United States, supported by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Emirates, Turkey, Europe, and many other countries, have failed to achieve the goal of making Syria a failed state.

US intelligence acknowledges Iran not after destabilizing Afghanistan despite Pompeo's claims

The US intelligence agency has acknowledged that Iran is not seeking to destabilize Afghanistan where the US he's engaged in an alleged peace process.

The US military intelligence announcement runs counter to previous remarks by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, The National Interest reported.

“Iran’s strategic objectives relating to Afghanistan continue to be maintaining a stable Afghan central government and security along Iran’s eastern border,” the Lead Inspector General wrote. “Iran’s objectives also include protecting Shia populations, eliminating [Daesh in Central Asia], opposing the US presence in the region, and securing Iranian economic interests.”

Iranian Supreme Leader Tweets Country Will Support Any Nation That Fights Israel

Iran's Supreme Leader announced on Wednesday his country would "support and assist any nation or any group anywhere" in its struggles against Israel. His comments follow a Palestinian withdrawal from agreements with Israel over its proposed annexation of the West Bank.

"The Zionist regime has proven it won’t abide by any treaty & understands no logic except force," Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei wrote in a Wednesday statement posted on Twitter as a series of tweets. "The nature of the Zionist regime is incompatible with peace, because the Zionists seek to expand their territories & will certainly not be limited to what they have already occupied."

Regime Change Back In Focus: Pompeo Targets Iran, Cuba & Venezuela In Epic Tweet Thread

Given the very noticeable rise in threatening rhetoric focused on Iran over the past week, it seems thoughts of regime change in Tehran are once again top of the agenda. Or perhaps simultaneously the administration needs a significant distraction of sorts amid the coronavirus pandemic, and the persistent national reopening question and agenda.

On Wednesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo went gloves off on Twitter, attacking Iran's 'Supreme Leader' Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, blasting him as “anti-Semitic”, “disgusting” and as someone representing “hate speech,” according to Pompeo's remarks.

Pompeo Accuses China Of Helping Iran's 'Gas For Gold' Sanctions-Busting In Venezuela

We predicted earlier that the United States is headed for another 'tanker war' with Iran, but unlike last summer this will take place far away from Persian Gulf and Mediterranean waters, instead in the Caribbean off Venezuela's coast, however unusual that scenario might be. Recall that Trump recently ordered a US naval build-up there to boot.

Currently there are five Iranian-flagged tankers transporting fuel to Venezuela across the Atlantic Ocean, with plans to break the American blockade on the Latin American country. Iran has warned that any US attempt at intercepting its fuel tankers "would have serious repercussions for the Trump administration ahead of the November elections."

Webmaster's Commentary:

President Trump, a word, please; having this country participating in a full shooting war against Iran, China, and Venezuela, will not assist your chances for re-election, come November; rather, they will destroy them.

Your "grasp" (or lack thereof) regarding true, hard-won ethical negotiations with which to gain what the US government wants to see happen, geopolitically, reminds me of a Gandhi quip, when asked about what he thought about "western civilization"; he said, that it would be a great thing if they, Westerners, would try it (being civilized, that is.)

Right now, you, and your minions (like our "Rapture-Centric" Secretary of State Pompeo) need to be revising and stepping up your playbook, but not from a standpoint of bullying and slapping sanctions on every political system with which you do not agree, but from a standpoint of what you can do, peacefully, to achieve the Federal Government's geopolitical goals.

And Mr. President, for a 71 year old gal as I am, who has seen numerous US election cycles in her lifetime, it appears that you and your team are desperately trying "misdirection" against Iran, China, and Venezuela, because of the way in which you have handled the Covid-19 pandemic, and how this took an already shaky economy (for all those except the truly monied), and threw it under the proverbial bus.

The American people are angry, Mr. President, and feel they have no one but you and your administration to blame regarding the medical and fiscal crisis which have left many Americans homeless, and jobless; how, sir, are you going to respond, honestly, and honorably to this?!?

Create more wars?!? Mr. President, you are not an intellectually ungifted individual, and you have to know that the existing wars are bleeding this country to death, fiscally.

So were I you, I would pull US troops out of Yemen; Afghanistan; Iraq; Somalia; and in every other country in which US troops are occupiers right now.

OR, you can continue the current disastrous course of events, and hand the election, on a platter, to the serial sexual predator, and Artiste Extraordinaire of Dirty Deals (like the ousting of the Ukrainian judge investigating his son's tenure at Burisma) Joe Biden.

The choice is yours, sir; I sincerely hope you make the right one, and soon.

Major Confrontation Developing: Trump Administration Warns Iranian Regime on Gas Shipments to Maduro Regime

According The Commander, U.S. Southern Command Admiral Craig Faller, Iran is interested in assisting Venezuela because it wants to gain territory in Latin America.

As a result, the United States government is investigating with its allies Iranian support by Iranian President Hasan Rohaní for suspected terrorist groups in the Middle East and working with the Maduro regime in Venezuela.

The Iranian regime recently sent 16 flight with spare parts to restart an Venezuelan oil refinery. It was also reported that the government of Iran arranged five oil tankers to transport gasoline to Venezuela. Socialist Venezuela has the largest oil reserves in the world and now needs gas shipments from Iran to operate.

Iran ready for worst-case scenario in faceoff with US, all options considered: Spokesman

The spokesman for Iran’s administration says the Islamic Republic is ready for the worst-case scenario in its current confrontation with the US over Iranian tanker ships delivering oil to Venezuela, stressing that Tehran-Caracas relations are not other countries’ business.

Ali Rabiei made the remarks in a weekly news briefing on Monday when asked about Iran’s possible reaction if the United States attempted to block the passage of Iranian tanker ships bound for Venezuela.

“Our foreign minister has issued necessary warnings and this issue has been also discussed by the [Iranian] administration and the Supreme National Security Council. We hope that the US would not make such a mistake, but in any case, we will take all possibilities into account and are ready for a worst-case scenario,” he said.

Iran: US bears responsibility for any foolish act against tankers heading to Venezuela

US Headed For Another 'Tanker War' With Iran - This Time Off Venezuela's Coast

Iranian state TV has announced at least five least five Iranian-flagged tankers are transporting fuel to Venezuela through the Atlantic Ocean and plan to break the American blockade on the Latin American country.

Iran has warned that any US attempt at intercepting its fuel tankers "would have serious repercussions for the Trump administration ahead of the November elections."

State-funded PressTV underscores that "Iran is shipping tons of gasoline to Venezuela in defiance of US sanctions on both countries in a symbolic move guaranteed by Tehran’s missile prowess."

Both countries have been targeted under US sanctions and various levels of covert military action of late. President Trump has taken a personal interest in renewed pressure on Maduro, within the past months reportedly pushing his generals to go forward with a 'naval blockade' of the socialist nation.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just what those "measures" will be, to prevent a breakage of the blockade.

Back in March, China warned the US not to attempt to change the government ov Venezuela by force China warns of repeating history's mistakes with Venezuela

Of course, the US government didn't listen, but signed off on a disastrous attempt by would-be private Rambos, to attempt to "snatch and abduct" Maduro from his Presidential Palace, and bring him to the US (this attempt to abduct a Constitutionally elected President of a country was done through a signed contract, no less!), and these collective congenital idiots wound up getting caught and interrogated by Venezuelan authorities.

How completely stupid these people were, to believe that this was going to be a "walk in the park", and how stupid were the US governmental officials who signed off on this?!?

The short answer, unfortunately, is, VERY.

But what concerns me deeply here, is that President Trump may well feel he needs some kind of " intense distraction" from the current fallout of his handling of Covid-19, both medically and economically, and he may think that the Venezuelan/Iranian connection is "just the ticket"; so Mr. President, another word, please.

And would someone, cursed with having to read this website daily on the President's staff, PLEASE BREAK THIS CONCEPT DOWN IN SMALL WORDS, SO THE PRESIDENT UNDERSTANDS WHAT I AM SAYING HERE?!?

A year ago last Summer, the following article appeared in the Moscow Times, 26 June, 2019, English language edition:Iran ‘Won’t Be Alone’ If U.S. Attacks, Russian Official Says

The article goes on to state: "“Iran will withstand this type of fight and Iran is not alone,” Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, said at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow."

Mr. President, career Russian politicians like Kabulov do not even pass wind, without Putin's permission; if this statement was made, you can bet your sweet bippy, that this assurance comes straight from Putin, and the one thing for which he is known, both nationally, and internationally, is keeping his word.

Now, this guy is NOT the "poster child" for sainthood; far from it. However, when words come out of the mouths of his spokespeople, you can bet that he has "blessed" the saying of them, as Kabulov did in this summit.

We are NOT in a position, militarily, to pick a fight with Russia right now; and if your military, and those defense contractors who "sit at the table" when you dine, are not telling you this, they are not being honest with you.

You, and your team, need to get this fixed, and pronto.

And Mr. President; please move forward by picking your battles.... carefully.

Outcry as Tomb of Mordechai and Esther in Iran reportedly set ablaze

An ancient shrine revered by Iranian Jews as the burial place of the biblical Esther and Mordechai was reportedly set on fire overnight, US Jewish groups said Friday.

US ‘knocks on closed door’ seeking to extend arms embargo against Iran – Russia’s UN envoy

The US cannot demand the extension of an arms embargo against Tehran since it is no longer a party to the Iran nuclear deal, Russian UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia told reporters via a video link-up.

“I do not see any reasons why [an] arms embargo should be imposed on Iran. It expires on 18 October. It was temporary,” TASS quoted Nebenzia as saying. “It was not in fact even an embargo. It is the provision where Iran is allowed to export/import armaments on the consent of the [UN] Security Council,” he noted.

Two years ago, the US “proudly announced” that it withdrew from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and closed the door behind it, the diplomat said. “Now they knock on that door and say ‘Just wait a second, we forgot to do one little thing on the JCPOA. Let us back, we will do it and leave again.’”

Trump attempting to intrude into Iran’s backyard to please Israel, pro-Israel voters: Analyst

US President Donald Trump is attempting to make an intrusion into Iranian sphere of influence on behalf of Israel, according to a political analyst.

Edward Corrigan, an international lawyer and journalist based in Canada, told Press TV on Tuesday that the Trump administration's aim to target Iran's backyard is to pander to the special interests of the pro-Israel Jewish community in order to win the Israeli lobby's support in the upcoming US presidential election.

The Trump administration is essentially pandering to special interests and AIPAC (the American Israel Public Affairs Committee) by embracing pro-Israel policies which are illegal in international law, but which win them support in terms of prevailing in elections and getting funding for elections.

Iran vows harsh response to any US escapade after Trump veto of war powers resolution

Iran will give a harsh response to any military escapade the US president may resort to, the Iranian envoy to Russia says, after Donald Trump vetoed a congressional resolution that was seeking to limit his power to launch military operations against Tehran without congressional approval.

Kazem Jalali said in an interview with the Sputnik news agency on Wednesday that by vetoing the congressional resolution, Trump followed two objectives, namely to secure victory in the next presidential vote and to have a free hand to launch military aggression again Iran.

"Trump's actions related to the veto may have two aims. First, this comes in the context of disagreements between political parties in the United States, and of the attempt to secure victory in the upcoming election. Secondly, the US is likely primed for a military conflict with Iran,” he said.

Israel attempted to block humanitarian sanctions-waiver that helps Iran combat coronavirus

Israel reportedly tried to impede attempts to relax international sanctions on Tehran over humanitarian concerns in recent months, as Iran became the Middle East epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak.

In a Sunday report, Israeli outlet Haaretz cited unnamed Israeli diplomats saying the Jewish state tried to exert pressure on international institutions against the easing of sanctions on Iran as a humanitarian gesture – even as the Islamic Republic struggled to contain a sweeping coronavirus outbreak.

Iran has confirmed over 106,000 coronavirus infections that have resulted in over 6,500 deaths as of Sunday.

There is so much focus on the COVID-19 pandemic right now that Americans can’t be blamed if they’re not spending much time studying other developments.

Israel Mulls Response to Alleged Iranian Cyber Attack That Breaks 'All the Codes of War'

Tel Aviv has accused Tehran of targeting Israel in cyber attacks "on a daily basis", despite Iran denying the accusations and insisting that the country "does not engage in cyber warfare".

The Israeli "high-level security cabinet" has reportedly condemned an "Iranian cyber attack" on Tel Aviv's civil water infrastructure, according to the Times of Israel. The participants of the meeting were reportedly forced to sign confidentiality forms.

The alleged attack in question that reportedly took place in late April was described by one of Israeli officials as a "significant escalation" by Iran that "crossed a red line" as it targeted civil facilities. Officials note that the attack did little damage, despite minor problems reported in local councils.

“This is an attack that goes against all the codes of war. Even from the Iranians we didn’t expect something like this", the official said, quoted by the report.

AIPAC Finally Gets The Best Of Ilhan Omar

It looks like AIPAC, the most influential pro-Israel organization in the U.S., has gotten to Rep Ilhan Omar.

The Muslim-American congresswoman who had been targeted by the lobbying behemoth a year ago for her “anti-Semitic” comments about “dual loyalty” in regards to members of Congress supporting a ban on American’s boycotting Israel businesses (BDS), has now signed onto a typically loaded AIPAC letter calling for the extension of a UN arms embargo against Iran.

The move has her supporters and political observers scratching their heads. The wider sanctions regime against Tehran, by all reports, was crushing the Iranian people long before the COVID virus began spreading through the country. Oil revenues, imports of basic necessities, all have been brought to a grinding halt thanks to the Trump Administration’s “maximum pressure” campaign. Now Iranians are struggling for life-saving equipment and medicines in the wake of a pandemic.

'Insulting Resolution': Trump Vetoes Congressional Measure Curbing Military Action Against Iran

US President Donald Trump has vetoed a bill that would have reined in his power to unilaterally make war against Iran. The bill was passed by lawmakers after the White House's January decision to assassinate a leading Iranian general without notifying Congress, bringing the region to the brink of war.

In March, federal lawmakers passed a resolution amending the War Powers Act of 1973 by requiring the president to obtain Congressional approval before ordering military actions against other states.

"Congress should not have passed this resolution," the White House said in a Wednesday news release on Trump's behalf announcing the veto decision.

"This was a very insulting resolution, introduced by Democrats as part of a strategy to win an election on November 3 by dividing the Republican Party," the statement read. "The few Republicans who voted for it played right into their hands."

US forfeited any right to seek renewal of UN arms embargo on Iran: European diplomats

European diplomats say by withdrawing from a nuclear agreement with Iran, the US forfeited any right to demand an extension to a United Nations arms embargo against the Islamic Republic that the deal has mandated to expire later this year.

Bloomberg News cited the officials as making the remarks on condition of anonymity in a feature that it ran on Tuesday.

The United States has expressed a resolve to have the embargo on the sales of conventional weapons to Iran prolonged. US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo first announced the intention and Special Representative for Iran Brian Hook told reporters last week, “We are operating under the assumption that we will be able to renew the arms embargo.”

The ban is to expire by October under the 2015 nuclear deal, and Washington is legally prohibited from seeking its extension as it left the deal in May 2018.

To impose further sanctions on Iran, the US rewrites history and engages in semantic gymnastics

On May 8, 2018, President Trump withdrew from the Iran Nuclear deal. In an effort to enact crippling “snap-back” sanctions, his administration is now pretending it did no such thing.

“All our words”, the American-Lebanese poet-philosopher Kahlil Gibran observed, “are but crumbs that fall down from the feast of the mind.” If words are judged by their intellectual weight and adherence to integrity, the statements issued by the Trump administration in relation to its standing as a “participating nation” in the context of the agreement (known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or JCPOA,) is more famine than feast.

Words have meaning, a reality that escapes those who formulate what passes for Iran policy in the US State Department today.

IRGC Navy warned US to leave drill area, will pursue them: Commander

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy chief has said a recent incident with US forces in the Persian Gulf happened as they entered a drill area despite despite having been warned in advance not to approach it.

Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri said US forces will be pursued in the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman.

“They had entered our training area while it had already been announced that drills would be held there...hence, they were ordered to leave,” he said.

Last month, the US Navy Central Command alleged that 11 IRGC vessels had “harassed” up to six US ships in the Persian Gulf.

The claims were firmly rejected as “baseless” by Iranian officials.

The IRGC issued a statement describing the American allegations as “Hollywood tales”, detailing that the incident happened after an American vessel repeatedly harassed an Iranian boat.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Iranian Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, this is a very dangerous game; tensions need desperately to be diffused here, and not accelerated.

Of course, it is not helping things, that the US refuses to negotiate with Iran in good faith; and I seriously hope that there is some kind of brokered agreement to put off any military combat between both countries, before something irreversible happens here.

The Trump Regime’s Latest Diabolical Anti-Iran Scheme. With the Support of Bibi

US domestic and geopolitical diabolical aims are humanity’s greatest threat, a nation hostile to virtually everything just societies hold dear — with super-weapons able to extinguish life on earth and willingness to use them.

China and Iran are in the eye of the Trump regime’s storm — Beijing for its growing economic, industrial, technological, political and military strength.

In Iran’s case, it’s for its vast hydrocarbon resources the US seeks control over, along with wanting Israel’s main regional rival state neutralized — despite no threat to any nations posed by the Islamic Republic.

Machiavellian Pompeo’s latest anti-Iran scheme reinvented history.

Defying reality, he falsely claims the Trump regime never left the JCPOA.

Despite unlawfully abandoning the Security Council adopted agreement, making it binding international and US constitutional law, Pompeo turned truth on its head, claiming Washington remains a “participant state.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

The real problem for the Trump administration, is that the embargo is over as of Friday, 23 October, which gives it a very steep curve of 11 days before the US elections on 3 November.

IF some kind of military activity by the US will be focused against Iran, my suggestion is that it will be far sooner, to be able to influence US elections in Trump's favor.

And of course, let's not forget the 3,000 lb gorilla, restfully draped over the Bosendorfer Grand Piano in the living room; that, my friends, is Russia.

Iran won't be alone, of the US attacks it, Russian official says.

It would be horrific for the US to go to war against Iran, only to find itself at war with Russia as well.

And please remember, as the world has witnessed in Syria; Russian military equipment does precisely what its manufacturers say it will do, why there is such a demand, globally, for these products.

And the "best of the best" the US has to offer?!?
Five F-35 issues have been downgraded, but they remain unsolved

Frankly, were I an American military fighter pilot, I would be more than reluctant to fly one of these birds, understanding the gravity of these unresolved issues.

US State Dept. Says Russia and China Have No Reason to Vote Against Prolonging Iran Arms Embargo

Russia and China have no reason to vote against the prolongation of the arms embargo on Iran, US Special Representative for Iran, and Senior Advisor to the Secretary of State Brian Hook said.

"Russia and China have great equities in a peaceful and stable the Middle East, and Iran’s sectarian violence and its export of weapons is the principal driver of instability in the Middle East today. And because they voted on it in the past, there’s no reason why it can’t be voted on again", Hook told reporters on late Thursday.

America The Victim: Are Enemies Lining Up For Revenge In The Wake Of COVID-19?

Authored by Philip Giraldi via The Strategic Culture Foundation,

When in trouble politically, governments have traditionally conjured up a foreign enemy to explain why things are going wrong.

Whatever one chooses to believe about the coronavirus, the fact is that it has resulted in considerable political backlash against a number of governments whose behavior has been perceived as either too extreme or too dilatory. Donald Trump’s White House has taken shots from both directions and the response to the disease has also been pilloried due to repeated gaffes by the president himself. The latest mis-spoke, now being framed by Trump’s press secretary as sarcasm, involved a presidential suggestion that one might consider injecting or imbibing disinfectant to treat the disease, either of which could easily prove lethal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What we appear to be seeing here, is an out-of-control President, who somehow has never, either in his private life, or his extraordinarily disappointing and thoroughly vilifiable public life, been told that when you screw up, particularly in his role as "Leader of the Free World", one takes responsibility for one's screw ups, listens to true wisdom as to how to fix them, and does the work to do so.

Not this President; he is ready to blame; vilify; sanction; and literally threaten multiple wars across multiple parts of the earth, in order to make it appear that he has utterly no responsibility for the state of the world today, in terms of health, from the global pandemic, and how it has affected the US; geopolitics; or the economy, which has just fallen into the proverbial, undrainable gutter, and may not get up again for a very long, long, time.

I don't know about you, folks, but I cringe at our options this November; on one hand, we have a mentally enfeebled, potential serial sexual predator, who may well, if he wins the election, have to be replaced by his running mate and Vice President shortly after the election, by the invocation of the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution, or... the man currently residing in the oval office, who is pathologically incapable of taking personal, or professional responsibility over the intense, foul harm his presidency has caused this country... and the world.

Pompeo Demands Countries Block Airspace To Iran's 'Terrorist Airline' After Venezuela Deliveries

The US is going on the offensive once again against Venezuela, this time attempting to break up growing Iranian cooperation and assistance to Caracas. The two so-called 'rogue states' recently targeted for US-imposed regime change are helping each other fight coronavirus as well as Washington-led sanctions. Specifically Tehran has ramped up cargo deliveries related getting Venezuela's derelict oil refineries fully operational.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo in new statements has called on international allies to block airspace specifically for Iran's Mahan Air, currently under US sanctions, and which has in recent days delivered cargoes of "unknown support" to the Venezuelan government, according to Pompeo's words.

Late last week it was revealed Venezuela received a huge boost in the form of oil refinery materials and chemicals to fix the catalytic cracking unit at the 310,000 barrels-per-day Cardon refinery, essential to the nation's gas production.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Oh holy crud, is Pompeo attempting to pull another "Libya" toward Iran and Venezuela?!?

Please remember what was done here, and why:

Military intervention in Libya

The Wikipedia article goes on to state: "On 19 March 2011, a multi-state NATO-led coalition began a military intervention in Libya, ostensibly to implement United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973, in response to events during the Libyan Civil War. The United Nations' intent and voting was to have "an immediate ceasefire in Libya, including an end to the current attacks against civilians, which it said might constitute crimes against humanity ... imposing a ban on all flights in the country's airspace – a no-fly zone – and tightened sanctions on the [Muammar] Gaddafi regime and its supporters."[26]

American and British naval forces fired over 110 Tomahawk cruise missiles,[27] whereas the French Air Force, British Royal Air Force, and Royal Canadian Air Force[28] undertook sorties across Libya and a naval blockade by Coalition forces.[29] French jets launched air strikes against Libyan Army tanks and vehicles.[30][31] The intervention did not employ foreign ground troops.[32]

The Libyan government response to the campaign was totally ineffectual, with Gaddafi's forces not managing to shoot down a single NATO plane despite the country possessing 30 heavy SAM batteries, 17 medium SAM batteries, 55 light SAM batteries (a total of 400–450 launchers, including 130–150 2K12 Kub launchers and some 9K33 Osa launchers), and 440–600 short-ranged air-defense guns.[14][33] The official names for the interventions by the coalition members are Opération Harmattan by France; Operation Ellamy by the United Kingdom; Operation Mobile for the Canadian participation and Operation Odyssey Dawn for the United States.[34] Italy initially opposed the intervention but then offered to take part in the operations on the condition that NATO took the leadership of the mission instead of individual countries (particularly France). As this condition was later met, Italy shared its bases and intelligence with the allies.[35]"

I would like to remind you of the very sober, and thoroughly terrifying, observation, that those who do not understand history... are doomed to repeat it.

Libya lies in ruins today, still suffering from the horrifically violent upheaval of a civil war which has raged across the country from this military intervention in 2011, well into today, in April of 2020, making it 9 years of civil war.

Can NATO be talked into such a monstrous reality yet again, and if so, could they be demanded/cajoled by Pompeo, in creating another "no-fly", coupled with a "No Sail" zone over Iran and the Persian Gulf, while the OAS is also cajoled/commanded to do the same thing to Venezuela? and if so, how would they enforce it?!?

Please remember: Venezuela left the OAS in April of last year, Venezuela leaves OAS, Claiming that President Trump "Runs Over Member States."

And how will Russia react, if such a thing happens?!?

Remember, Russia assured Iran last year, that if the US attacks it, Iran will not be alone, if the US attacks.

Folks, we are about to be introduced to an alleged, new "Axis of Evil"; I would encourage you to examine those claims before you "jump on the bandwagon here and say, "HELL, yes, let's go to war with Venezuela and Iran, they are colluding like twin halves of an evil empire!!".

Venezuela may not be very useful in a long-term, geopolitical firefight, but Iran is, and would be; Russia's strategy, would then probably be to attempt to make any potential US invasion of Iran draw quick and immediate parallels with the horrific, ultimate ending of the war against Vietnam, in which the US government and military just got "ground down."

The longer I live, the more I understand that both the US government and military, seem to have very difficult challenges in learning from their mistakes; I wish I could see this as being otherwise, but 20th and 21st US history and logic, forbid me from seeing the facts this way.

In Letting Navy Sink Iran Boats, Trump Grabs Illegal War Power

At 5:08 a.m. (EST) on April 22, 2020, President Donald Trump wrote on Twitter: "I have instructed the United States Navy to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea."

Wags have mocked Trump for wanting to “shoot down” boats, which don’t fly. Infinitely more important is the heightened risk of war with Iran – and thereupon with Russia – if the military carries out Trump’s intent. Consider too his blow to the rule of law by –

Treading on Congress’s exclusive authority to declare war (Constitution, Article I, Section 8, eleventh paragraph).
Disregarding the United Nations Charter’s ban on the use or threat of force against any nation contrary to the UN’s peaceful purpose (Article II, Paragraph 4).

Trump Regime Aims to Suppress Iranian Truth-Telling

US hostility toward Iran is all about its sovereign independence — free from US control.

It’s also because of its large hydrocarbon resources the US seeks control over, along with wanting Israel’s main rival neutralized.

Hostile US policy toward Iran reached a unprecedented level under Trump and hardliners surrounding him.Earlier the Obama regime falsely claimed that the US can “seize any .com, .net and .org domain name because the companies that have the contracts to administer them are based on United States soil.”

Cyberspace is the last frontier of press freedom. Without it, the Internet would be like cable TV, controlled by corporate giants.

Truth-telling would be marginalized and silenced, speech and press freedoms consigned to the dustbin of history — where things are heading without redoubtable resistance.

Republicans and Dems are hostile to free and open expression.

To Pressure Iran, Pompeo Will Argue US Remains a Party to Nuclear Deal

or years, one of the big criticisms of the US reneging on the P5+1 nuclear deal and withdrawing as a party was that the US had lost its seat at the table as a party to enforcement of the deal. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is now trying to find a way to have his cake and eat it too.

Under a new legal argument Pompeo is in the process of putting together, the US will argue that it is still a party to the nuclear deal with Iran, even though the US withdrew from the deal in May 2018 and never provided promised sanction relief. Pompeo would argue that this allows the US to force snapback sanctions on Iran even if everyone else objects.

Pompeo’s plan will argue that President Obama said at the time of the deal that the US wouldn’t need UN support for a snapback, though its almost certain Obama did not envision the US attempting this years after withdrawing from the deal.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What the hell is Pompeo ingesting on Air Force One, please?!?

I'd really love to be able to laugh at this insanity; but what concerns me, is not being able to stop, in light of the reality that President Trump, concretely and completely, walked away from the deal in 2018, period, end of discussion.

US Beefs Up Gunship Presence In Gulf Ready To Back Trump's Iran 'Red Line'

American forces in the Persian Gulf have greatly bolstered their ability to respond to Iran at a moment President Trump has renewed trading threats and barbs with the Islamic Republic, ordering the US Navy "to shoot down and destroy any and all Iranian gunboats if they harass our ships at sea."

This includes the Pentagon bolstering its AC-130 gunships and Apache attack helicopters to target and destroy small surface threats in the Arabian Sea. Tehran has meanwhile responded with its own threats to 'destroy' American vessels of course.

It was apparently this beefed up presence that led to the April 15 confrontation about which Trump was responding by ordering destruction of boats that "harass" American vessels.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Just because something would be the most ham-fistedly, pig-headedly stupid thing the US government could do is, unfortunately, no guarantee that it will not do it.

US elections are to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020; that is only 160 days from today; and between the Dementocrats' "race to the bottom" with their Candidate appearing to suffer from both dementia AND a potential history of sexual predation, "Sleepy Joe" Biden, and President Trump's fumbling and bumbling on Covid 19 and the shutdown that has destroyed huge swathes of the the American economy, God only knows how this campaign is going to unfold.

But I can tell you one thing for certain; Team Trump desperately needs a win, of some kind, and I am hoping (and praying) that a war against Iran is NOT what they are looking at right now, as their "pre-election" win."

Russia's Putin has been very clear, that if the US goes into Iran, they will most probably be facing the Russian military as well, and as we have seen very clearly in Syria, their weaponry does work as advertised, which cannot be said with a completely straight face, regarding some of the US's most costly weapons programs.

The F-35 still has hundreds of problems the Pentagon has no plans on fixing

"Driving The Gringos In The White House Crazy": Iran & Venezuela Deepen Sanctions-Busting Cooperation

Two so-called 'rogue states' recently targeted for US-imposed regime change are helping each other fight coronavirus as well as Washington-led sanctions.

Late last week it was revealed Venezuela received a huge boost in the form of oil refinery materials and chemicals to fix the catalytic cracking unit at the 310,000 barrels-per-day Cardon refinery, essential to the nation's gas supply.

This as a fuel and food shortage crisis has driven protests and clashes with police, especially in hard-hit rural areas, over the past month.

“Thanks to the support of our allies in the Islamic Republic of Iran... We will overcome our difficulties,” Erling Rojas, vice minister for refining and petrochemicals in Venezuela’s Oil Ministry, stated when the much-needed refinery parts arrived last Thursday.

He further underscored in colorfully provocative rhetoric that Iran’s support is “driving the gringos in the White House crazy.”

Webmaster's Commentary:

What did the Trump administration think, that both governments were going to roll over and play dead, as their responses to these sanctions?!?

I am very much reminded of a one-liner from the American comedian Ron White, which is: "You can't fix stupid!"

And unfortunately, the "stupid" when it comes to Iran, is that President Trump, and his cabinet, are, collectively, pathologically incapable of seeing Iran, except through the jaundiced eyes, and equally jaundiced perception, of one of his BFFs in the Middle East, Israel's Prime Minister, Benyamin Netanyahu.

The other bit of "stupid" comes from ignoring a statement made by one of Putin's confidantes a year ago last summer to their Iranian counterparts at a summit last summer: Iran will not be alone, if the US attacks.

The statement was made by Zamir Kabulov, the Foreign Ministry’s special envoy for Asian countries including Iran, at a Russian-Iranian policy forum in Moscow\ last Summer, and reported by the Moscow Times.

There is one thing of which I am very certain; Kabulov would never have made the statement without Putin's absolute backing: if the US government attacks Iran, we will most probably be facing Russian military in Iran as well.

And Putin will move heaven and earth to insure that any US invasion of Iran.... will have precisely the same outcome as did the US invasion of Vietnam.

Iran’s Nurses Are Martyrs to Trump’s Maximum Pressure

The Trump administration’s sanctions have made it impossible for Iranian medical personnel to keep themselves safe amid the pandemic.

Medical personnel work at Razi hospital, which has been allocated to treat COVID-19 patients in Ghaenshar, Iran, on April 9. Majid Saeedi/Getty Images
Narjes Khanalizadeh was a 25-year-old nurse in Gilan, a province along the Caspian Sea in northern Iran. In late February, after working with coronavirus patients at a hospital in the city of Lahijan, she fell sick. Within a few days, she was dead.

A week later, results from a coronavirus test that had been administered before her death came back positive, sparking anger and fear among the country’s nurses. Khanalizadeh, who had been working without adequate protective gear, is one of more than a dozen nurses who have died from the coronavirus since February, despite desperate warnings from nurses about shortages of personal protective equipment at hospitals, including at Khanalizadeh’s.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is precisely what this US Administration wants to see happen in Iran; first responders dead, sick unto death, unable to work, and a spectacular spike in the death toll in Iran.

Well, it appears that the current Administration is definitely getting their wishes here, in spades.

Congrats, folks; Josef Mengele would have been SO PROUD OF YOU!!

Israel Kills Nine in Attack Near Syria’s Historic Palmyra

At least nine people were killed Tuesday in Israeli attacks on a Syrian military base near the historic city of Palmyra. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the death toll, saying six of the slain were “not Syrian,” but were believed to be Lebanese.

Israeli attacks in Syria are common enough, and often target foreign Shi’ites, who irrespective of their country of origin will be labeled “Iranian” by Israeli officials. The Syrian government confirmed the attack, saying they’d intercepted several Israeli missiles.

Palmyra is not a major site of combat lately, so it’s not clear why Israel would attack it in the first place. Palmyra is an important historical site, and after years of complaining of damage ISIS might do there, its likely there will be a backlash if Israel damages anything as well.

Webmaster's Commentary:

One has to wonder just how long Russia's President Putin will allow these Israeli targeted assassinations to continue; I would like to hope, not much longer.

Here we go again with the regime change

In a new Foreign Affairs article this week, Eric Edelman of the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies and the Council on Foreign Relations’ Ray Takeyh argue that the United States should be using every tool of statecraft at its disposal to aid dissidents in Iran to overthrow the regime.

They bluntly state that, with Iran, the “only U.S. policy that makes sense is to seek regime change.” They contend that the Iranian regime is inherently revolutionary, and as such, American interests in the Middle East can only be secure once the regime is deposed.

‘Armageddon’: When Coronavirus Struck a Tehran Hospital

It was like scenes from an Armageddon-like movie made in Hollywood instead of a real-world Tehran hospital, Hesam Khezri said, describing the state of Masih Daneshvari during the first days of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran.

“Looking down from the rooftop of the hospital…you could see dozens of ambulances rushing with their sirens blaring. People in sanitary clothes were going hurriedly from side to side transferring patients on stretchers,” Khezri told Middle East Eye.

Khezri is a doctor’s assistant working in the hospital’s surgery department but was transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU) as the demand for more personnel to deal with the crisis grew.

He was diagnosed with Covid-19 on 1 April.

“Suddenly, we were spearheading the fight against Corona,” Khezri said of Masih Daneshvari, a big hospital built in a mountainous area north of the capital.

Iran vs US: Tehran ramps up its defences with groundbreaking new system

The two long-ranged radar systems were unveiled on Sunday in a major sign of the country’s defensive development as seen in pictures released by Fars News Agency. Opened by high-ranking army officials, the Khalij-e Fars has an operational range of 800km (497 miles). The second, named Moraqeb, is a mobile unit which has a smaller range but is able to detect low-altitude UAVs.

Both systems are hugely significant and would allow the country to detect most foreign aircraft entering its airspace.

In a further upgrade to its military arsenal, Iran has acquired three bomb-carrying drones.

South Korea blocks test kits for Iran on Saudi-funded TV's request

Iran says South Korea has rejected a SWIFT payment request by Tehran for purchase of coronavirus testing kits over the US sanctions.

Iran's Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour late Saturday released a document that shows a Saudi-funded TV had asked a Korean bank to reject the request.

"As a result, the Korean bank rejected Iran's request and the kits were not delivered to Iran," he said.

IRGC’s new device can help detect coronavirus in seconds

Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) has unveiled a new technology that enables the detection and diagnosis of the new coronavirus within a 100-meter radius in just seconds.

The technology was inaugurated in Tehran on Wednesday, in the presence of Major General Hossein Salami, the chief commander of the elite IRGC force, which has joined the countrywide battle against the viral outbreak along with other ranks of the Armed Forces, IRNA reported.

The technology can detect infected surfaces and diagnose individuals who carry the pathogen within five seconds. It has been developed by the scientists serving the country’s Basij volunteer force.

The IRGC commander described the development as a “novel and singular scientific advancement.”
