Latest Gallup poll shows young Americans overwhelmingly support Palestine

Large demonstrations against Israel's assault on Palestinians in Gaza were staged across the US on Saturday. The public outpouring of support for Palestinians in US streets suggests that Washington's pro-Israel policies are becoming increasingly unpopular, a trend supported by a recent poll on Israel's latest aggression, which finds that young Americans are twice as likely to support Palestinian rights than Israeli occupation.

Tens of thousands of Americans held a demonstration in front of the White House in Washington, DC. Protestors travelled in buses from around the country to join the national rally, waving Palestinian flags and chanting "free Palestine" in the US capital.

Thousands of people have taken to the streets around the world over the weekend to protest Israel’s military operation in the Gaza Strip. The largest demonstrations were held in Australia, France and Chile.

Thousands of people gathered for a pro-Palestinian rally in Sydney, Australia on Sunday, calling for an immediate end to the Israeli military operation, which has so far cost the lives of over 1,700 Palestinians and 60 Israelis. They were chanting “Free, free Palestine.”

Many Jewish people around the world don’t support the Israeli crackdown on Gaza, Peter Slezak from Independent Australian Jewish Voices told the Sydney Morning Herald.

"The state of Israel does not represent all Jews,” Slezak said. “I am one of very many Jews who is horrified and deeply ashamed by what the Jewish state is doing in my name. I stand with the people of Gaza and with Palestine as a whole."

In photos: Israeli bombs destroy historic al-Omari mosque in Jabaliya

Israeli forces bombed the historic al-Omari Mosque in the northern Gaza City of Jabaliya on Saturday morning.

The mosque, which is believed to have stood on the same site since 647 AD, was almost completely destroyed in the bombing.

The portico and minaret dated back to the medieval Mamluk period, or at least 500 years.

The mosque stood at the center of Jabaliya and was known as the “Great Mosque” by local residents.

Israel said that their forces had bombed five mosques over night, claiming that “weapons caches and Hamas command and training facilities” were concealed within them.

The continuing slaughter of innocents in Gaza brought a crowd of what one police officer estimated to be 10,000 people into the streets of New York on Friday. They met at the headquarters of CNN and then marched through the crowded theater district to the Fox News Building. At both places they accused the corporate news entities of lying to the public and shouted “Shame!” repeatedly. The crowd was mostly young, multi ethnic, sad, and very angry. The tourists on the streets along Broadway looked astonished and fascinated. They read the signs and explained what was happening to their children. Some gave a thumbs-up and said they were glad to see people out protesting what was happening. It seemed that very many of the demonstrators were young Palestinian Americans who felt a strong tie to the Palestinian people struggling in Palestine and Israel and wanted to express strong feelings of solidarity with them as well as protest the torment that Israel was inflicting.

An Israeli air strike has hit another UN-operated school in Gaza Strip, killing at least 10 people and injuring 35 others, Palestinian health authorities reported.

The missile fired by an Israeli aircraft hit the entrance to the school in the town of Rafah in southern Gaza Strip.

The school served as a shelter for some 3,000 Palestinians amid the ongoing violence in the region, as Israel continues its operation against Hamas.

The Israeli military declined immediate comment on the attack.

Foreign Affairs Minister Baird under fire for Hamas comments

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird has come under fire from Human Rights Watch over comments that “Hamas will be solely to blame for any further loss of life” after a Gaza ceasefire quickly unravelled Friday. In a statement , Mr. Baird said Hamas had violated the ceasefire and that Israel was forced to defend itself. “Hamas has lost all credibility, and we must continue to work to isolate this terrorist organization that values death over peace,” Mr. Baird said.

Human Rights Watch issued its own statement, saying Mr. Baird’s comments amounted to a “green light for more unlawful Israeli attacks that kill civilians.”

Israel broke the cease fire 9 minutes after it started with a missile attack into Gaza. The soldiers "decommissioning" a tunnel inside Gaza were another violation. That Baird is unaware of this only proves his incompetence at his job.

NYT on why it hasn’t shown photos of Hamas fighters: We don’t have any

Of the 37 images that make up the Times’ most recent three slide shows of photos from the conflict, there’s not a single shot of a Hamas rocket launch (though more than 2,800 rockets have been fired at Israel) or of Hamas fighters using mosques, schools or hospitals as bases of operation.

Why not? After all, Hamas attacks against Israel are crucial to understanding what’s underpinning this conflict.

Here’s what Eileen Murphy, the Times’ vice president for corporate communications, says:

Our photo editor went through all of our pictures recently and out of many hundreds, she found 2 very distant poor quality images that were captioned Hamas fighters by our photographer on the ground. It is very difficult to identify Hamas because they don’t have uniforms or any visible insignia; our photographer hasn’t even seen anyone carrying a gun.

The inescapable conclusion is that Israel is lying about the HAMAS rockets being there in the first place. That is, after all, Israel's official reason for the starvation blockade on Gaza ever since HAMAS won the elections. One may assume that the New York Times, which remains a loyal servant of Israel, would publish every photo they could find of HAMAS fighters in Gaza, their rockets, or the remains of rockets and rocket launchers in the debris of the bombed hospitals and UN schools. The New York Times admits its photographers are looking for such damning images, but simply cannot find them. Daily we are told that the "poor suffering" people of Israel live in fear of HAMAS' rockets, yet the hills above Gaza are filled with Israelis and their picnic baskets, enjoying the slaughter much as the Romans cheered as the Emperor threw the Christians to the lions, apparently unconcerned about the rockets the media claims terrify them.

Likewise, were their actual attacks in Israel creating equivalent damage to what is seen in Gaza the obedient and pro-Israel corporate media would splash it across the papers and TV screens of the world, to offset the political damage arising from the images and videos coming out of Gaza. again, there just isn't any. The claim that tiny Gaza is a threat to the world's sixth largest nuclear power is as phony as the claim that HAMAS kidnapped and killed those three teenagers in the West Bank that Netanyahu used to justify this latest aggression against Gaza, the third in the last six years.

The Israeli military appears to be winding down its ground operations in Gaza, amid reports that some troops and tanks have begun to withdraw.

Two Israeli television stations reported that some ground forces began pulling back from the Gaza Strip on Saturday.

So now the people of Gaza will start to rebuild their lives again and two or three years from now Israel will gin up some other excuse to come back in and smash it all.

Israel's morality is that of a small child who likes to knock over ant hills just to see the ants scramble.

There is no question that Israel's military might, paid for by the US taxpayers despite overwhelming taxpayer opposition to their money being spent this way, prevailed against Gaza. How could it not? Israel has F-16s, tanks, drones, guided missiles and bombs; the very latest high-tech weaponry to fling mass death onto a people trapped inside an open-air gulag without an army, navy, or air force, trying to fight back with unguided rockets cobbled together from plumbing supplies. Victory is always assured against an unarmed, trapped and helpless people.

There is also no question that Israel lost this war in terms of world public opinion. While Israel's bought-and-paid for governments and bought-and-paid for media have tried to sell Israel's moral rightness to the world, they have utterly failed. Israeli General Moshe Dyan once stated that "Israel must be like a mad dog", and today the entire world sees Israel as a mad dog for its repeated aggressions against its neighbors.

As for the corporate media, this was supposed to be their finest moment of propaganda; their shining victory in proving that they are still in control of what the general population is thinking. That too went down to defeat. The media and the politicians are realizing that the days when they would tell us what to think and what to believe are really and truly over. Hopefully they will adapt and adjust to than new reality. To fail to do so leads to their extinction.

For all of its suffering. the people of Gaza have won a huge victory for all of the people of planet Earth against those who would presume to enslave our minds with lies, deceptions, and frauds.

Obama Calls on Hamas to Release Kidnapped Soldier

U.S. President Barack Obama on Friday called on Hamas to unconditionally release Second Lieutenant (Platoon Leader) Hadar Goldin, who is feared kidnapped in Gaza.

Releasing Goldin, Obama said in a statement, would show that Hamas is serious about a ceasefire.

Webmaster's Commentary: 

Every time I think the President has hit the bottom in terms of bald-faced lying, he sets a new low for pure USDA choice bovine excrement.

1. There is no evidence that Goldin was captured by HAMAS. If they had him, they would use him as a bargaining chip. Given Israel's long history of deceptions, I suspect that Goldin is actually relaxing in a four-star resort somewhere on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean, courtesy of the Israeli government (and paid for by the US taxpayers).

2. The word "kidnapped" is dishonest in the extreme. Goldin was a combatant inside Gaza destroying a tunnel in violation of the supposed cease fire (which Israel had already violated by sending missile into Southern Gaza 9 minutes after the cease fire started. Goldin is a prisoner of war, not a kidnap victim.

3. This is the same deception Israel pulled back in 2006 when they sent two uniformed IDF soldiers across the border into Lebanon into the village of Aitaa al-Chaab, where they were promptly captured. Israel, aided by the corporate media, declared Lebanon to be at fault for the "kidnapping", and launched their attack for the Litani River.

4. If you, Barry, are serious about prisoners being released, then it is time for you to release those prisoners in Guantanamo and elsewhere who you just ADMITTED have been tortured by the US to find Saddam's non-existent nuclear weapons or provide politically useful confessions. The military tribunal has already admitted that at least 1/3 of those prisoners are innocent of any wrongdoing against the United States are were sent to be tortured for the bounty money being offered by the US. Should not these people be released before we talk about an Israeli POW captured during an act of war?

How do you justify such hypocrisy, Barry?

Netanyahu Tells U.S. 'Not To Ever Second Guess Me Again' On Hamas

Following the quick collapse of the cease-fire in Gaza, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told the White House not to force a truce with Palestinian militants on Israel.

Sources familiar with conversations between Netanyahu and senior U.S. officials, including Secretary of State John Kerry, say the Israeli leader advised the Obama administration "not to ever second guess me again" on the matter. The officials also said Netanyahu said he should be "trusted" on the issue and about the unwillingness of Hamas to enter into and follow through on cease-fire talks.

Translation of Netanyahuspeak:

1. Keep sending us the money and weapons, even though according to US law, such acts are illegal, under the Symington Amendment.

2. Let me slaughter and maim as many Palestinians as I think are necessary to slaughter, particularly the women and children, because that causes the demographic advantage Palestinians have over Israelis to be ratcheted down, at least a little.

3. Don't ever try to pressure us to do what we don't want to do, or otherwise, we will tell the world who the real perpetrators of 9/11 actually were.

IF President Obama had ANY "male attributes" whatsoever, he would, right now, stop ALL funding of all weapons and economic programs to Israel, until Netanyahu's government went back to the bargaining table with Hamas.

But unfortunately, he doesn't, so this genocide will continue just as long as Israel wants it to go on, which will down to the last Palestinian standing.

And for the Israeli government, Palestinian genocide is infinitely preferable that actually negotiating a just and lasting peace.

Congress approves $225 million in funding for Israel’s Iron Dome missile defense system

The US Congress approved $225 million for Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense system, credited with destroying missiles fired by Hamas before they could reach their targets.

House of Representatives approved the funding by 395-8 in a late Friday vote. The Senate earlier approved the measure unanimously before the start of its five week summer recess.

The measure now awaits President Barack Obama’s signature.

The emergency spending funds, which adds to the US deficit, will restock Israel’s Iron Dome system with interceptor missiles.

The funding is part of the administration’s request of $3.1 billion for military assistance to Israel, the world’s largest beneficiary of US foreign aid.

Daring and lethal Palestinian raids from Gaza sap Israeli morale

The Israeli army is reeling from two attacks behind its lines by fighters of the Qassam Brigades, the military resistance wing of Hamas.

The attacks are feeding a sense in Israel that its ground assault on Gaza is turning into a disaster and there are indications that Israeli anger and frustration are being taken out with even more deliberate killings of Palestinian civilians.

On Monday, four Israeli soldiers were killed and ten injured when Palestinian resistance fighters fired mortars across the boundary from Gaza.

But the most dramatic incident was a commando raid in which seven Qassam fighters emerged from a tunnel, raided a fortified Israeli army outpost at Nahal Oz inside Israel, killed five soldiers according to the Israeli count, and returned safely to Gaza through the tunnel.

Why Israel's blockade of Gaza was a mistake

Mohammed Deif, head of Hamas' military wing who has been on Israel’s “Most Wanted” list since the mid-1990s, disseminated a recording this week (July 27) in which he stipulated the removal of the closure on the Gaza Strip as a pre-condition for a cease-fire. All of the military conflicts between Israel and Hamas revolved around this issue. Hamas wants, more than anything else, to end the blockade because this state of affairs makes it difficult to rule the Strip and provide for the needs of the population. Israel, on the other hand, obstinately refuses to revoke the decision taken by former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert on June 15, 2007.

The starvation blockade of Gaza was Israel's punishment for the Gazans voting for HAMAS in the 2006 elections. Israel hoped that by starving the people of Gaza they would abandon their elected government and accept proxy Israeli rule through Abbas' PA. This is a repeat of 1948, when the Soviet Union blockaded the highway leading from West Berlin to West Germany, to try to starve the West Berliners into accepting East German rule. The world responded to this obvious atrocity by mounting the Berlin airlift, flying food, water, medicine and other supplies into West Berlin for almost a year, until the Soviets abandoned their plan and re-opened the highway. It is a telling reminder of just how much Israel has subverted the governments of the world that the same nations that united to save West Berlin do not lift a finger to save Gaza.

An Israeli missile attack on the south of the Gaza Strip has killed eight people, including three children, 9 minutes after the announcement of a ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian resistance movement Hamas.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza has said an Israeli missile caused the fatalities, striking a home belonging to a family in the city of Khan Yunis, the International Middle East Media Center reported on Friday.

The ministry said the projectile also wounded more than 10 Palestinians.

Nine others were also killed earlier when an Israeli warplane attacked a house in the al-Nuseirat refugee camp, near the central city of Deir al-Balah.

Rescue workers also found another body at the site of Israel’s recent strike in Shejaiya neighborhood.

Israel has been targeting the Gaza Strip with military attacks since July 8. The air, sea and land strikes by Israel have so far killed at least 1,458 people and injured over 8,300 others.

This is Israel’s third major offensive against the densely-populated Gaza Strip over the past six years.

Gaza cease-fire unravels; Israeli soldier captured

The latest attempt at an Israel-Hamas cease-fire disintegrated Friday. After the capture of an Israeli soldier, the conflict edged closer to escalation than to peace.

The soldier was "abducted" by Palestinian militants during an attack in Gaza in which two other Israeli soldiers died, Israeli military Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told CNN's Wolf Blitzer. The soldiers were decommissioning a tunnel at the time, Lerner said.

If the soldiers were "decommissioning a tunnel at the time", then Israel was already in breach of the cease fire!

I am reminded of how Israel started their last war with Lebanon in 2006 by marching two uniformed IDF soldiers across the border and into the town of Aitaa al-Chaab where they were promptly captured. Israel declared them "kidnapped" and used that as their excuse to launch an invasion of Lebanon in a failed attempt to gain control of the Litani river to divert its water to Israel.

Israel's consistent propaganda goal is to attack others but make it look like it is somehow the fault of the victims, not unlike the current attack on Gaza, which Netanyahu started by blaming HAMAS for the kidnapping and killing of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank, even though local authorities in that area say the suspects in the case have a reputation for defying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble, which suggests that they may be agents provocateurs.

Gaza Cease-Fire Collapses; Israeli Soldier Is Captured

A newly agreed cease-fire in the Gaza conflict collapsed soon after it came into effect on Friday with the Israeli military announcing that two soldiers were killed and a third appeared to have been captured by Palestinian militants who emerged from a tunnel near Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Gaza health officials said that 35 Palestinians were killed and more than 100 wounded as Israeli forces bombarded the area. Palestinian witnesses said by telephone that Israeli tank shells hit eastern Rafah as residents returned to inspect homes they had evacuated.

Hamas blamed Israel for violating the truce, saying in a statement that the announcement about the capture of one of its soldiers was “to cover up the barbaric massacres, especially in Rafah.”

Bombed Gaza power plant investor insured by US development agency

The Overseas Private Investment Corp., a U.S. government agency that offers investment services to assist U.S. companies investing in developing countries, provides political risk insurance to U.S. general contractor Morganti to cover its investment in the Gaza power plant that was bombed and destroyed by Israel on Tuesday.

“The investor has notified OPIC that the facility in question has been damaged,” Charlie Stadtlander, a representative for OPIC, told Devex in a written statement. “As of this writing, no official insurance claim has been filed,” Stadtlander added.

So, until now, it is a standoff.

HSBC terminates Gaza-linked Islamic charity’s bank account and others

HSBC has written to an array of UK Islamic charitable organizations to inform them their accounts with the bank will be terminated. One such organization has carried out relief work in crisis-stricken Gaza for over a decade.

In formal letters issued to a think tank, a charity and a North London mosque, HSBC claimed continued provision of its services would counter its “risk appetite".

Family members of a man who runs the think tank have also received similar letters from HSBC. But the multinational bank reportedly offered no explanation for its decision to withdraw its banking services in these cases.

Five Latin American countries withdraw envoys from Israel

The decision of the Latin American countries to recall their ambassadors in Tel Aviv is a "deep disappointment", says Israel.

El Salvador on Wednesday became the fifth Latin American country to withdraw its ambassador from Israel in protest at Israel's military offensive in Gaza.

Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Peru have already recalled their ambassadors.

Israeli Foreign Ministry Spokesman Yigal Palmor said that the move encourages Hamas; "this decision encourages Hamas which has been recognized as a terrorist organization by several countries. The countries standing against terror must act responsibly and should not reward them. While Hamas has been responsible for hindering a ceasfire, El Salvador, Peru and Chile were expected to support international attitude for peace and demilitarization of Gaza", the statement said.

Earlier Israel criticized Brazil over its decision to recall its ambassador in protest at Israel's military offensive in Gaza.

The strike against Cairo was recalled and the official story is that Israel mistook the USS Liberty for an Egyptian horse carrier ship, because as we all know, Egyptian horse carrier ships have huge dish antennas all over them!

Anonymous 'knocks out' Mossad website over Israel’s Gaza offensive

Hacker group Anonymous has reportedly taken down the website of the Israeli secret service Mossad in protest of Israel’s military incursion in Gaza. The ‘hacktivists’ have already targeted a number of organizations in their mission to stop the “genocide.”

Mossad’s website went offline at around 00:40 GMT and is still down at the time of writing. The Israeli government has yet to make any comment on the supposed hack attack.

This newspaper has long admired Israel and its beleaguered and resourceful people, who have suffered appalling provocation from enemies intent on wiping their country from the map.

I was at the bank of Palestine on Saturday and saw lines of people sending money to colleagues and friends in Gaza. We had cloth and food drives. Convoys bringing medical aid are finally being allowed to enter even as 150 bodies were pulled from under the rubble in one neighborhood alone. Israeli soldiers speak to Haaretz of large scale destruction of civilian neighborhoods in Gaza and surprise and fear at the resistance fighters. Most people understand that Gaza is a big crowded prison that is being subjected to a most ruthless occupation that destroyed its economy and means of livelihood.

Israeli military fire hit a United Nations-run school in Gaza today, killing at least 20 people and injuring an estimated 90 people. The school under attack, called the Abu Hussein girls’ elementary school, is located in the densely-populated Jabaliya refugee camp.

The United Nations Relief Works and Agency (UNRWA), the group that serves Palestinian refugees, issued a stern statement placing the blame for the attack on the Israeli army.

Campaigners in Scotland have succeeded in pressuring the organizers of an arts festival into removing the Israeli state-funded Incubator Theater Company from a city center venue in Edinburgh.

Abbas runs out of excuses for inaction on Israel’s war crimes

Israel’s latest attack on Gaza has now entered its fourth week; the number of Palestinians killed is nearing 1,300. And the Palestinian Authority still refuses to take any real action.

During a meeting in Ramallah this week, Mahmoud Abbas, the PA’s president, said, “The ugly and grotesque Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people must be stopped.” He added, “We ask the world to support us in seeking justice, and from now on we will study all our options to reach this purpose.”

That is typical talk from the PA. For years now, the authority has been studying “all our options” — without holding Israel to account.

IDF general: Israel did not target Gaza’s power plant

An Israel Air Force general charged with all aerial ground support during the campaign in Gaza denied Tuesday that Israel targeted the Gaza Strip’s only power plant earlier in the day.

“The State of Israel did not attack Gaza’s power plant,” said Brig. Gen. Yaron Rosen, the commander of IAF Air Support and Helicopter Air Division.

The general said it was possible the plant had been hit by Israel by mistake.

There was a pro-Israel rally of 10,000 people in New York yesterday, a half block from the United Nations, and Rabbi David-Seth Kirchner, the president of the NY Board of Rabbis, suggested that Palestinians who voted for Hamas are combatants who deserve to be targeted by Israel. He said:

When you are part of an election process that asks for a terrorist organization which proclaims in word and in deed that their primary objective is to destroy their neighboring country and not to build schools or commerce or jobs, you are complicit and you are not a civilian casualty.

The crowd cheered. Kirshner went on to say that the Israeli army is “the most moral army in the history of civilization.” He ended his remarks with the word, Amen.

And what about the slaughter of innocent Palestinian children, too young to vote, Rabbi?!?

I am certain that you have some kind of tortured logic with which to justify these actions, and I really wish, in your statements, that you would have just said it, in this speech, just to make your position perfectly clear.

In the last election, vetted by international observers, and characterized as being free and fair, Hamas won the election. THAT really annoyed Netanyahu no end.

And this year, when Fatah and Hamas were to announce a unity government, THAT darn near had Prime Minister Netanyahu exploding, because he could no longer say he didn't know who to talk to about peace. So what did he do?!? He suspended peace talks in April of this year.

And now, another massive IDF attack against Gaza, which will most probably kill hundreds of thousands. Apparently, when he makes that observation that the IDF is " ...the most moral army in the history of civilization.", it is painfully clear, the from Rabbi Kirchners's perspective, that morality equates to genocide.

Oh, and by the way, that statement about Palestinians not building schools or commerce or jobs?!?

I would like to thoughtfully point out that concrete, and other building materials are forbidden in Gaza.

So I would like him to elucidate, please on just HOW the Palestinians in Gaza are supposed to be able to build ANYTHING, with these restrictions in place, and here they are:

These lists include, in detail, a range of chemicals used in the production of explosives (including certain fertilizers); specific types of metal profiles; ball bearings; lathes and their parts; composite materials; hunting knives and machetes; optical equipment, such as lasers and night vision goggles; certain navigation aides; diving equipment; parachutes, gliders and other nonmotorized airborne vehicles; flares and fireworks; avionics and flight control equipment; missile related computer technologies; rock drills and equipment drawing water from excavated sites. List No. 2: Construction Items and Materials to be Allowed Entry into Gaza only for PA-authorized Projects Implemented by the International Community While such items are liable to be used for Hamas military purposes (building bunkers, fortifying positions and digging tunnels) Israel will permit their entry into Gaza so as to facilitate construction projects in Gaza - authorized by the PA and implemented and monitored by the international community. Efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Israel’s ongoing invasion of the Gaza Strip aren’t sitting well with Israeli hawks, and by extension that means they aren’t sitting well with the US Congress.

That’s got Congressional officials up in arms, pushing President Obama to stop trying to negotiate a ceasefire in the conflict, and instead to endorse Israel’s war unconditionally, and irrespective of how bad it gets.

Underscoring just how far they’ll go, Sen. Mark Kirk (R – IL) insisted he was totally comfortable with Israel killing thousands of civilians in the current war if it meant wiping out Hamas, saying it was “worth it.”

Earlier this month The Electronic Intifada rumbled a hoax video claiming to show “Hamas using children as human shields” – in fact the video was from Syria.

Two days ago another hoax video, this one titled “Palestinian child firing an RPG on Gaza Beach July 2014,” was uploaded to YouTube.

But in fact the video is not from from Palestine at all.

The original appears to have been uploaded to LiveLeak three days ago. The description of the video says it may have been from Libya.

Deadly shelling hits UN school, killing 16, as Hamas mulls truce

Israeli shells struck a UN school in Gaza early Wednesday, killing 16, as ground troops made a significant push into the territory despite Palestinian efforts to broker a 24-hour truce.

It was the second time in a week that a UN school sheltering hundreds of homeless Palestinians had been hit, with the latest violence pushing the Gaza death toll over 1,260.

The bloodshed came as a top-level Palestinian delegation including Hamas and Islamic Jihad leaders was preparing to head to Cairo to discuss a new proposal for a temporary humanitarian ceasefire, a top PLO official said.

RAISING ON A BUSTED FLUSH - Israel Still Swears Hamas Kidnapped Those Teens

Prime Minister Netanyahu had promised that Hamas would pay for the murder of Naftali Fraenkel, Eyal Yifrach, and Gilad Shaar. But on Friday, Jon Donnison, a BBC reporter, citing the the spokesman, Mickey Rosenfeld, called Israel’s claim that Hamas was responsible into question.

Donnison tweeted that Rosenfeld told him that while the cell on the West Bank was operating alone, it was affiliated with Hamas. However, it did not receive direct orders from Hamas leadership.

Those tweets became the basis for a widely shared blog post saying Israel now conceded that the kidnappers acted in a lone cell and Hamas had nothing to do with it.

The twittersphere exploded with I-told-you-so’s from pro-Palestinian activists, who claimed Israel had manipulated events surrounding the killing of the teens to prepare for and justify its assault on Gaza, which has since killed more than 1,000 Palestinians.

Rosenfeld is now recanting his admission, but we don't need his word anyway. The claim that HAMAS kidnapped and killed those teens never made any sense at all. HAMAS and FATAH had just formed their unity government. They needed world support for what they were doing and would not have carried out an act that would turn world opinion against them.

Open Letter to the Liberal Party of Canada on Gaza Massacre

Dear Liberal Party of Canada,

Whatever one thinks of the Israel/Palestine "conflict" or Hamas or whether Israel is a democracy, we have one simple question: when will you speak out against Israel’s indiscriminate killing of hundreds of civilians, including over 200 children?

The Liberal Party statement is so detached from the reality of what is taking place in Gaza right now that we have to wonder whether perhaps the second half of the statement got lost somewhere.

Four boys playing soccer on the beach, three kids feeding birds on a roof, and over 200 more; murdered for the sole crime of being Palestinian children. And while the Liberal party's public statement goes to great length to criticize Hamas for targeting civilians, it is entirely silent on Israel's killing of Palestinian children or civilians in general.

The Liberal Party statement fails to point out that it was the Netanyahu government that instigated this "conflict" in the first place.

Let's review the timetable.

Last month, three Israeli teenagers were kidnapped and killed in an IDF-controlled region of the West Bank, not Gaza. ISIS has taken credit and even the Israeli media admits that the two suspects named by the Israeli government are not part of HAMAS, but of a group known for disobeying HAMAS and trying to cause trouble for them.

But Netanyahu declares HAMAS, the legally elected government of Gaza, responsible and launches bombing raids into Gaza using the very latest high-tech weapons provided by the US Government and paid for by the US taxpayers.

To put Israel's actions into perspective, let us recall that over the July 4th weekend, 8 people were killed in Chicago. Using Netanyahu's logic, the Democratic party should be blamed and all of Illinois bombed and invaded!

The Palestinians, who have been attacked without provocation, fight back with their home-made rockets, which so far have mostly knocked a few roof tiles loose.

But to Israel's supporters, we should all forget that Israel attacked Gaza without a valid reason, and view Palestine's attempts to defend themselves as the crime, so that Israel can go on pounding the Palestinians with their superior weapons.

I want to point something out. The Israelis sit in their tanks, or the drone operations centers, or fly high above Gaza in their US-supplied warplanes, dropping the latest in US-supplied high tech lethal munitions, and imagine themselves the heroes they read about in the Torah. The Israelis, clearly unafraid of HAMAS rockets, line the hills overlooking Gaza and cheer the carnage, much as the Romans at the Colosseum cheered as the Christians were thrown to the lions. The Palestinians huddle in their giant open-air prison, without an army, a navy, or an air force, and fight back with home-made rockets made out of plumbing supplies.

Not since Thermopylae has the world seen such courage in the face of overwhelming odds. The Palestinians have balls the US and Israel can only dream of, and the world will remember their courage against the tyrants, and the lies by the corporate media's presstitutes and whorespondents trying to protect Israel's aggression!

The Church of Nativity incident remains one of the most talked about acts of brutality by the Israel’s forces. The world saw a siege of the Church of Nativity on April 2, 2002 and it lasted till May 10, 2002. A group of Palestinian Arabs entered the church in Bethlehem, one of the most sacred sites for Christianity, seeking refuge from the Israeli Defense Forces. Israeli soldiers from the IDF surrounded the church and targeted Palestinians, exchanging fires and plunging into the discretion of Holy places of Christians, for which Israel is much noted for.

The first claim of a wrong move from IDF became clear from the statement of Michael Sabbah, Head of the Roman Catholic Church and the Latin patriarch of Jerusalem. He said:

"The basilica is a place of refuge for everybody, even fighters, as long as they lay down their arms. We have an obligation to give refuge to Palestinians and Israelis alike".

Israel is trying to move away from the embarrassment of having falsely blamed HAMAS for the killing of three Israeli teenagers in the West Bank by re-framing the current conflict as "Jews against Muslims." Israel-Gaza conflict: 10 Palestinian children killed and 46 injured in strike on hospital and park

Two strikes which hit the compound of Gaza City’s main hospital and a nearby park killed ten children and wounded 46 on Monday – hours after Israel and Hamas had declared a truce.

The park in the Shati refugee camp was hit minutes after a strike on the outpatients unit at the Shifa Hospital on the edge of the city.

Ayman Sahabani, the head of the emergency room at Shifa Hospital, claimed that children were playing on a swing in the park when they were killed. Nine of the 10 killed were children under the age of 12, and 46 were injured. Camera crews were prevented from filming the area of impact at Shifa, according to reporters on the scene.

But critics say this effort is just another U.S. affirmation of support and impunity for Israel, despite the fact that Israel's fighter jets, attack helicopters, drones, and soldiers are doing the killing.

"The resolution is a rhetorical statement, but it makes things really ugly," Phyllis Bennis, senior fellow at Institute for Policy Studies, told Common Dreams. "This resolution says that the elected representatives of the American people are standing with the slaughter of children and not saying a word about it. Second Turkish Gaza flotilla will have military escort, group says

The Turkish pro-Palestinian organization IHH announced that its second Gaza flotilla will be launched soon - and will be afforded protection by the Turkish Navy, Israel's NRG reported on Sunday.

The group's chairman told local Turkish media that the mission, titled 'Freedom Flotilla II,' was in the process of finalizing the legal paperwork needed to commence on the trip, and would embark as soon as it got the necessary permissions.

This fleet, as opposed to the group's previous one that was intercepted by the Israeli navy in 2010, would be protected by the Turkish Navy, he said.
