US in new push to resolve Israel-Lebanon sea border dispute

Israel and Lebanon both claim some 860 square kilometers (330 square miles) of the Mediterranean Sea. Lebanon hopes to unleash offshore oil and gas production as it grapples with an economic crisis. Washington is mediating between the two countries, which have been officially at war since Israel's creation in 1948.

Speaking to lawmakers after the meeting, Berri described the meeting as "positive" and said it would be followed up. He said things are moving in the right direction because of the Lebanese "unified" position that protects maritime and land borders, according to his remarks published in the state National News Agency.

Lebanon-Based Media Claims Blasts Rock Fujairah Port, UAE Officials Deny Reports

Several heavy explosions occurred early on Sunday in the port of Fujairah in the United Arab Emirates, a number of media reports say. The reports, citing eyewitnesses, further suggested that American and French warplanes have been seen flying over the port at the time of the incident.

The government of Fujairah denied on Sunday media reports about several heavy explosions taking place at the emirate's port, insisting that the port is functioning as usual.

"The press service of the Fujairah government denied media reports about powerful explosions in the emirate's port earlier this day and confirmed that ship traffic is as usual," the state-run WAM news agency reports.

Lebanon won’t survive with Palestine, Syria refugees, says Aoun

Lebanon would never survive if half a million Palestinian refugees and 1.6 million Syrian refugees remained in the country, the Lebanese president, Michel Aoun, said yesterday.

Aoun remarks came during a meeting held at the presidential palace in the Lebanese capital of Beirut with a delegation from the Middle East Council of Churches (MECC), headed by its secretary general Souraya Bechealany.

Aoun called on the MECC to help the Lebanese government resolve the Syrians refugees’ issue “by persuading Western countries to accept the refugees return to their countries as soon as possible.”

Russia expands ties in Lebanon’s oil, gas sector

BEIRUT — During a Middle East tour last month, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo focused primarily on Iran’s influence in the region, but on Mar. 20 in Jerusalem he also labeled Russia an adversary of US regional allies in addition to Iran and China when speaking about energy and security in the eastern Mediterranean. “Revisionist powers like Iran and Russia and China are all trying to take major footholds in the East and in the West,” Pompeo said, alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and the leaders of Greece and Cyprus.

Nasrallah Says Hezbollah Able to Crush Israeli Troops in Case of Lebanon Attack

The Lebanese-based Hezbollah militant group has sufficient resources to enter Israel’s border region of Galilee and "destroy" Israeli forces in case if the IDF attacks Lebanon, Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah said.

"The resistance has many strong and decisive means. The time for a quick war is over. The resistance is capable of entering Galilee… That part of Israel that thinks about intervention in Lebanon will be destroyed and crushed," Nasrallah said live on the Al-Manar TV channel on Thursday.

New York Times apologizes again for 'offensive' Trump, Netanyahu cartoon that 'included anti-Semitic tropes'

View image on Twitter

New York Times Opinion

We apologize for the anti-Semitic cartoon we published. Here’s our statement.

"We are deeply sorry for the publication of an anti-Semitic political cartoon last Thursday in the print edition of The New York Times that circulates outside of the United States, and we are committed to making sure nothing like this happens again," the opinion section tweeted Sunday.

"Such imagery is always dangerous, and at a time when anti-Semitism is on the rise worldwide, it's all the more unacceptable," continued the apology, which was widely shared on Twitter.

Webmaster's Commentary:

To the editorial staff of the NYT:

Dear all; yes, I understand why you apologised.

But having said that, is there any place at your table, where one can objectively talk about what is really happening between the US and Israel, under President Trump's watch, where sheer logic could never be construed as being "anti-Semitic?!?

Fact: Israel is the largest recipient of US foreign aid.

US Foreign Aid to Israel

the article goes on to state:

This report provides an overview of U.S. foreign assistance to Israel. It includes a review of past
aid programs, data on annual assistance, and analysis of current issues. For general information
on Israel, see CRS Report RL33476, Israel: Background and U.S. Relations, by Jim Zanotti.
Israel is the largest cumulative recipient of U.S. foreign assistance since World War II. To date,
the United States has provided Israel $134.7 billion (current, or noninflation-adjusted, dollars) in
bilateral assistance and missile defense funding. Almost all U.S. bilateral aid to Israel is in the
form of military assistance, although in the past Israel also received significant economic
assistance.
At a signing ceremony at the State Department on September 14, 2016, representatives of the
U.S. and Israeli governments signed a new 10-year Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on
military aid covering FY2019 to FY2028. Under the terms of the MOU, the United States pledges
to provide $38 billion in military aid ($33 billion in Foreign Military Financing grants plus
$5 billion in missile defense appropriations) to Israel. This MOU replaces a previous $30 billion
10-year agreement, which runs through FY2018.
Israel is the first international operator of the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, the Department of
Defense’s fifth-generation stealth aircraft, considered to be the most technologically advanced
fighter jet ever made. To date, Israel has purchased 50 F-35s in three separate contracts.

With all that money spent, one would think that Israel would be doing everything possible to keep relationships with its neighboring countries stable, and at least, show a little bit of gratitude in that manner to the US government.

Fact: Israel has a real difficulty with "getting along" with most of its neighbors, particularly if they have oil (like Iran), or water(as does Lebanon), and its politicians are consistently screaming at the US to "do something" about their allegedly impossible neighbors, before they "go it alone." (which will only happen when pigs discover they are aerodynamic).

Fact: when Sheldon Adelson gave President Trump all those millions to get elected Adelson reportedly watch the election with Trump, President Trump understood what the quid pro quo was; to declare Jerusalem the capital of Israel (which he did), and second, create a "Middle East Deal" which offered no "right of return" for the Palestinians. The first demand, Netanyahu got; and our current understanding is that Jared Kushner, Trump's son in law, is working on that "deal" for mid-East Peace.

Fact: were I living in Iran right now, I would be very nervous, as President Trump has declared "no waivers" would continue past 2 May for countries which had been buying Iranian oil, in order to attempt to destroy Iran's economy. This includes China, and all the other countries which may not pay attention to Trump's demand. We now have two US carriers in the Mediterranean Sea, allegedly to insure Russia "gets the message" of "no interference" 2 US Navy aircraft carriers are making a statement in the Mediterranean Sea.Color me very nervous about what lengths the US is willing to go, to make that happen.

Fact: if I lived in Syria right now, I would be more than a little bit nervous, because the White House and Pentagon have decided to leave troops here, and there is no definitive pullout schedule which has been released. US keeping +/- 200 troops in Syria.Thinking people have to ask, "Why?!? IS there going to be an attempted "de-cap strike" against Damascus, understanding that Russia's Putin has given Al Assad all the military "muscle power" it needed to have substantially, and pretty successfully, beaten back the (US Trained & funded) jihadis?!?

Fact: were I a Gazan Palestinian right now, I would be very nervous about the lengths Israel is willing to go, to achieve a complete exodus of the Palestinian people (to where, I cannot tell you, because neighboring countries are overflowing with refugees, and cannot take any more), and claim Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, as solely Israeli.

As an American who cares about her country, I am very concerned about the dangerous territory to which the US/Israeli relationship is taking this country. Does it ever concern you, BTW, that the two Middle Eastern men by whom President Trump seems to be so thoroughly fascinated, are the two butchers in the Middle East, Prince bin Salman, the Butcher of Yemen, and Israel's Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Butcher of Gaza?!? And please don't tell me, that in this man's "heart of hearts", he hopes for a just and lasting peace between the Israelis and Palestinians; because with everything he has done, in his numerous terms as PM, he has done the polar opposite of attempting to create peace. He doesn't use the word "extermination" when talking about the Palestinians in Gaza, because he knows that the optics would be terrible; but some of his more rabid followers would have absolutely no problem with this.

I cannot foretell where these relationships is taking this country, but I can tell you this; something wicked this way comes.

And were I a betting woman, I would bet that Israel is pushing the US as hard as it thinks it can, to declare the devolution of the US's ongoing economic war in the region into a shooting war against all of its alleged existential enemies; we're talking about a war with Syria (which would, again, most likely include a war with Russia if not Russia and China); war against Iran (which will most likely, involve war with Russia and China)

To the Editors of the NYT, I have just expressed my fact-based opinion on what is going to happen here, and I am hoping that I am dead-wrong; but I have a very clear understanding of what Israel did to the USS Liberty, and then tried to "fake it" by wrongly accusing Egypt of the attack.

"False flag attacks" by both the Israeli and US military, are a common stock-in-trade they both use.

And if you have any members of your families serving the US militarily, please, as best you can, pray for them; because if what I see coming does come to pass, they -and their commanders, and the collective members of the US government - will need it. And I say this because, at this point in the the US's military history, they do not have the money, the troop strength, the manufacturing, or the weaponry to create a successful outcome to a war against either Russia and/or China.

Lebanon Threatens to Strike Israeli Airport if Military Conflict Erupts - Report

The Lebanese defence minister ruled out the possibility of military conflict with Tel Aviv in the near future, however.

Lebanon's Defence Minister Elias Bou Saab has warned that the Lebanese Air Force will strike Israel's Ben Gurion airport in the event of a military conflict between the two states, the Jerusalem Post reported, citing Hezbollah's al-Manar news site.

Speaking during his tour to the southern part of the country, the minister promised Beirut will react symmetrically to Tel Aviv's military actions.

"If Israel bombards our airport, we will bombard its airport; if it strikes our oil facilities, we will strike its oil facilities," he was quoted as saying by al-Manar.

Webmaster's Commentary:

IF, in fact, this is true, it appears to come right out the CIA playbook, and the pattern is painfully clear; demonize the existing government; create regime change; replace that regime with one which is US-centric; and make sure that the assets which the US wants to expropriate are only sold by US-centric companies, and that they are only allowed to be paid for in the US dollar.

Wash; rinse; repeat.

IF true, color me completely unsurprised by this development.

US Recognition of Golan Heights Annexation Is Trump's Gift to Netanyahu before Election

He also said the recognition of the Golan Heights as Israeli is just the latest in this series of gifts.

Hassan Nasrallah: US Sanctions against Hezbollah are Last Resort, Resistance Axis Triumphs

The US sanctions and financial siege that we currently experience, along with being added to the list of terrorist organizations, and lately, the British decision to add Hezbollah’s political wing to their own list of terrorist groups, and the consequences of all these measures – because in the past, they have already added our military branch, as they say, on the list of terrorist organizations, and a few days ago, they added the political branch, according to their (purely artificial) distinctions… In this respect, when we speak of US sanctions, we should expect them to become even more severe, both against those who support us and against us, that is to say against the Islamic Republic of Iran, against Syria, and against all Resistance movements and the Resistance Axis, and against us (Hezbollah).

Top US General Denies Plans to Leave 1,000 Troops in Syria

US Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Joe Dunford issued a statement Monday denying weekend media reports that the US plans to leave around 1,000 troops in Syria, saying the reports are “factually incorrect.”

Dunford presented the current planned “residual force” as 200, saying that this hadn’t changed since February. The US announced 200 would stay on February 21, but on February 22 officially increased that number to 400.

It’s not clear from Dunford’s statement where the “incorrect” aspect of the new report, which came out of a Wall Street Journal, exists. That report suggested that the 1,000 figure was not yet finalized, but was being discussed. Dunford’s comments didn’t include any details on what is actually being discussed, but just that nothing was finalized.

I think the multiple troop numbers being given, are simply a way of creating confusion about how many US troops the US does have in Syria.

Hezbollah Becomes Theresa May’s Latest Scapegoat In her Battle for Political Survival

Having lost considerable influence in Europe and other parts of the world over the chaotic Brexit process, Britain’s Prime Minister Theresa May is seeking to gain leverage by boxing-in Hezbollah. British politics under the Conservative government not only appears to have lost the plot, but many may not be faulted if they also ask whether May has lost her marbles as well.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah, it has been announced by Home Secretary Sajid Javid, is henceforth to be designated as a “terrorist organization” in its entirety. To date, Britain has only designated the armed wing of the group. The reason given for this move is plainly ridiculous and alludes to why many wonder if Britain has run into a cul-de-sac of its own making. According to Javid, he decided to proscribe Hezbollah because it is “continuing in its attempts to destabilize the fragile situation in the Middle East.”

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – FEB. 11-13, 2019: NEW ISRAEL STRIKES AND ‘SECRET MISSILE FACTORY’ IN TARTUS

Speaking after a meeting with visiting Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte in Beirut on Thursday, Berri said Israel has “licensed two companies to start drilling by April 2020 at most,” warning that the move threatened “to drain a whole basin" and a large part of Lebanon's oil wealth before the country even starts to drill.

The senior Lebanese legislator went on to say that he had raised the issue with the Italian prime minister earlier in the day, and the latter “had shown readiness to back Lebanon up on all fronts.”

The speaker said it was important to warn Italian energy company Eni of the Israeli “violations” against Block 9.

Lebanon's Berri says Israel oil exploration in disputed waters 'dangerous'

Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri says the Israeli regime is violating Lebanon's sovereignty in a “dangerous” manner by licensing a company to "exploit an area" for oil and gas resources near a disputed region.

The maritime dispute between the two sides runs over a sea zone of about 800 square kilometers. The underlying Levant basin of the Eastern Mediterranean has been proven to contain large natural gas reserves, probably even crude oil.

"(It is) a dangerous matter. Israel has licensed and exploited an area adjacent to the Lebanese southern maritime borders," Berri was quoted by lawmakers from Amal party as saying on Wednesday after a meeting.

"This is an infringement on Lebanese sovereignty and targets our oil wealth and waters."

Hezbollah leader warns Israel over attacks in Syria

The head of the militant Hezbollah group in Lebanon warned Israel late Saturday over its continued attacks in Syria, saying a miscalculation could drag the region into a war.

Hassan Nasrallah made the comment during a wide-ranging interview that lasted more than three hours with the Beirut-based Al-Mayadeen TV station.

Nasrallah said Iran, Syria and Hezbollah could "at any moment" decide to deal differently with Israel's actions in Syria and hinted that Tel Aviv might be a target.

Egypt Issues Ultimatum to Hamas on Cooperation with Iran

Israel Hayom has learned that alongside Jerusalem’s decision to postpone the transfer of Qatari funds to Hamas following the escalation on Israel’s border with the Gaza Strip, Egypt has issued the terrorist organization’s political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh (pictured) an ultimatum.

Cairo has made it clear that Haniyeh must decide whether “Hamas takes its orders from Tehran or continues to implement the understandings for calm” formulated by the head of Egyptian intelligence Abbas Kamel.

A senior Egyptian intelligence official told Israel Hayom that senior Hamas members, chief among them Haniyeh, had contacted Kamel with the request that Israel be sent the message that “Hamas was not involved in the grave events on the border.”

MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS LITERALLY MAKING PEOPLE SICK

I do not for one second doubt that Americans are feeling more stressed and suffering more health-degrading symptoms as a result than they were prior to Trump’s election. But Pacific Standard and its “growing body of research” ignore the most obvious and significant culprit behind this phenomenon which is tearing people’s health to shreds: the mass media which has been deliberately fanning the flames of Trump panic.

The always excellent Moon of Alabama blog has just published a sarcasm-laden piece documenting the many, many aggressive maneuvers that this administration has made against the interests of Russia, from pushing for more NATO funding to undermining Russia’s natural gas interests to bombing Syria to sanctioning Russian oligarchs to dangerous military posturing.

Webmaster's Commentary:

What is infinitely more grating, from where I sit, is not the "Trump Panic Syndrome", but the "Trump Reality Syndrome", which includes things he had promised on the campaign trail which he has not done... and things President Trump has done, in these first two years of his Presidency.

1. The massive disparity between the monied and the desperate keeps growing exponentially. There are little victories, of smaller companies moving back to the US (probably with some rich state/town perks and benefits for having done so.) But the consistent off-shoring, out-sourcing of American jobs continues apace. There is an epidemic of homelessness in this country which is unprecedented.

Remember the stunning scenario which inspired Victor Hugo to create his "Les Miserables"?!? In 1845, on the streets of Paris, he observed the same incident that triggers the novel's action. On a sunny but cold day, he saw an impoverished man being arrested for stealing a loaf of bread. As the man stood on the street, an ornate carriage pulled up beside him. Inside there was a dazzlingly beautiful woman dressed in velvet, playing with a child hidden under ribbons, embroidery and furs. The impoverished man stared at the woman in the carriage, but she was totally unaware of him. Hugo wrote that he saw this man as, "The spectre of misery, the ghostly forewarning in full light of day, in the sunshine, of the revolution still plunged in the shadows of darkness, but emerging from them. The moment he became aware of her existence, while she remained unaware of his, a catastrophe was inevitable."

Folks, we're there, right now; history may not necessarily repeat, but occasionally it rhymes. And let me say, for the record; as a Christian pacifist activist, I abhor violence, and would never advocate its use.

And those great pronouncements about the employment in this country, are running so low; this is a marvelous subterfuge, and a neat "hat trick", courtesy of the Department of Labor Statistics.

You see, people who are unemployed for more than 4 weeks, are deliberately purged from the figures as not interested in working, almost as though they had never existed at all.

If the US unemployment rate included everyone who says they want a job, it would be nearly double

2. President Trump withdrew the US from the P5+1 deal, even though the IAEA continues to state that the Iranians are currently keeping their end of the deal. I cannot begin to articulate just how completely insane, and counter productive this was. There are many things about which I rightly criticized the Obama Administration, but this was not of them. And the consequences?!?

Remember: demonization, plus Sanctions, create the American Preludes to War.

We are on the doorstep of such a war against Iran, because Israel's Prime Minister Netanyahu, keeps advocating it, calling Iran "the existential enemy" of Israel. We are plunged into our "2 minutes of hate against Iran", ad nauseum, by the corporate presstitutes. So, let's see, what could possibly go wrong here?!?

Emboldened by one of his BFFs in the Middle East, President Trump, Israel has been making bombing runs into Syria to destroy alleged Iranian placements of personnel, and equipment in that country. Netanyahu: we will not stop fighting Iran as long as I lead Needless to say, Iran is not amused with these actions, and Russia, who has been assisting the Syrian government in getting rid of US backed, equipped, and funded jihadis in Syria, has told Israel in no uncertain terms, to back off. As of yesterday, Russia blasted Netanyahu with the following demand: Israel's airstrikes against Syria must stop. We also see the following headline: World War III: Iran, Syria, Russia and Israel

I do hope our President understands the following: Tel Aviv thoroughly expects the costs of such a war to be borne in American blood and money; not Israeli. Should such a war begin, expect Russia (and perhaps China) to come into the fray on Iran's side.

3. And speaking of war, let's remember the Saudi war against Yemen, where the American government and military are complicit in Saudi war crimes. Why Are U.S. Bombs Killing Civilians in Yemen?

The reason is simple: The Saudis love to buy American bombs to continue to create a genocide in Yemen.Saudi Arabia is the top buyer of US weapons" President Trump has, by default, and his sign-off on all these deals, has given him yet another title: The American Merchant of Death in Chief.

Please think about that for a minute. Did you ever think, when you were a kid, about how you would feel, understanding you would be a citizen of a US government which would be complicit in war crimes?!?

3. The illegal immigration solutions President Trump promised the American people, have gone down in flames.

4. Us sanctions around the globe in places like Russia, China, and Venezuela, are pushing other countries further away from the US, both in relationships, and finding creative ways to ditch the dollar, and come to other understandings about how finance can be conducted.

5. I notice the corporate presstitutes are continually spewing out their vile codswallop against countries which have done nothing to the US, to further the governments'agendas which, at this time, seem to be all-out war-centric. The two countries which come to mind, are Iran, and Russia.

The US government accuses Russia of having "annexed Crimea", which never, in reality, did happen; After the 2014 Putsch in Ukraine, Crimea did two things; in a fair and peaceful referendum, the Crimean government asked the people of Crimea, if they wanted to stay in Ukraine, or petition the Russian Federation for membership. The Crimean people voted overwhelmingly to petition the Russian Federation for a membership, and the Russian Federation accepted this. And please remember: in an interview with CNN, President Obama confessed to have brokered a deal for "regime change" in Ukraine. In a CNN interview, President Obama Confesses that the US brokered a deal for" Regime change" in Ukraine, January, 2015

6. The US has left a ton of military footprints around the world. the list is breathlessly long, and may contain country names you haven't thought about since High School Geography, or may have been recently created

These are the true issues of "The Trump Reality Syndrome".

Please understand that I am just as angry about these issues as many of you are, but realize that I need to channel my anger into logic, research, and coming up with alternate ways in which this country could get what it wants, geopolitically, without resorting to war.

Because right now, war - and the monied who become enriched through war and military conflicts around the world - are winning, and I am singularly depressed about this.

Rivlin warns Macron: Israel may have to hit Hezbollah rocket factories in Beirut

President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday told his French counterpart that Israel could be forced to strike the Hezbollah terror group’s rocket-building operations “in the heart of Beirut,” a development he warned would drag Lebanon into a punishing regional war that neither side wants.

Rivlin made the remarks during a meeting with France’s President Emmanuel Macron at the Elysée Palace in Paris during an official visit to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between Israel and France.

Damascus Threatens to Respond to Israeli Attack With Strike on Tel Aviv Airport

Permanent Representative of the Syrian Arab Republic to the United Nations Bashar Jaafari said that it was time that the United Nations Security Council took action to stop constant Israeli attacks on Syrian territory, adding that Damascus might exercise its right to self-defence and respond to the Israeli attack on Damascus Airport with a symmetric strike on Tel Aviv Airport.

"Isn't it is the right time for this council to take the necessary measures to stop the repeated Israeli aggression against the territories of my country or should we attract the attention of the war makers in this council be exercising our legitimate right for self-defence and respond to the Israeli aggression against the Damascus International Airport by launching an aggression against Tel Aviv Airport?" Jaafari said speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on the situation in the Middle East.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is all for show; Jaafari knows that the UN is impotent against Israel; one world leader, however, who is capable of bloodying Israel's nose militarily, is President Putin of Russia.

There have been reports of conversations between Putin and Netanyahu; I have to wonder how true they are, because it doesn't look as though Putin has been able to neutralize Netanyahu's behaviour.

Time will sort that mystery, however.

IDF chief turned PM candidate touts body count & bombing Gaza into ‘stone age’ in campaign ad

Parts of Gaza were returned to the stone ages,” one clip boasts over footage of the bombed-out shells of Palestinian buildings. As chief of general staff of the Israeli Defense Forces, Gantz led the offensive that bombarded Gaza for 51 days, killing – as the ad boasts – “1,364 terrorists” and bringing “3.5 years of quiet.”

The second ad in the series shows a running tally of deaths over scenes of Palestinian funerals, and a third shows the targeted assassination of a Hamas leader whose car explodes in a ball of flame.

Haaretz notes that even the official Israeli military figures counts less than half of the Palestinian casualties as militants – meaning Gantz included close to 500 civilian casualties in his “terrorist” tally.

These people were the real Nazis, Hitler and the Germans were just caught in their crossfire.

'Jewish state' will soon cease to exist: Israeli historian

Influential Zionist historian Benny Morris, professor of the Middle East studies department of the Israeli Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, has foreseen a bleak future for the Zionist establishment.

"Already today there are more Arabs than Jews between the [Mediterranean] sea and the Jordan. The whole territory is unavoidably becoming one state with an Arab majority," said Morris in an interview published by the Israeli Haaretz newspaper on Thursday.

"Israel still calls itself a Jewish state, but a situation in which we rule an occupied people that has no rights, can not persist in the 21st century, in the modern world. And as soon as they do have rights, the state will no longer be Jewish," added Morris.

"I do not see how we get out of it."

In Lebanon, U.S. State Department official calls Hezbollah 'unacceptable'

The U.S. State Department criticized Lebanon’s Iran-backed Hezbollah group on Monday for digging tunnels into Israel and stockpiling rockets, as Washington steps up efforts to isolate Tehran.

In recent weeks, Israeli forces uncovered tunnels they said were dug by Hezbollah, and Lebanon complained about Israel’s construction of a barrier along disputed parts of the border.

The United States, Israel’s closest ally, regards Hezbollah as a terrorist group and has pledged tougher steps to counteract Iranian influence in the region, but it has also reiterated its backing for the Lebanese government - which includes Hezbollah representatives - and army.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last week vowed to expel “every last Iranian boot” from Syria, where Iran has been fighting alongside Hezbollah, and where Israel has been carrying out strikes against both.

Report: Nasrallah suffers heart attack

The Lebanese media reported on Saturday that Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah was hospitalized after apparently suffering a heart attack.

Additional reports said that Nasrallah is also fighting cancer.

Israel Hayom quoted Lebanese journalist Jerry Mahar as saying that "an intelligence source confirmed that a senior figure in the Hezbollah organization was hospitalized today in a hospital in the capital Beirut, and other sources confirmed that it was Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah, who has been fighting cancer for years."

The reports were not confirmed by any official source in the country and Hezbollah did not respond to the report.

Nasrallah has not been seen in the media since reports of the exposure of Hezbollah tunnels in Operation Defensive Shield.

FLASHBACK - How Hezbollah Defeated Israel

Israel’s decision to launch a ground war to accomplish what its air force had failed to do was made hesitantly and haphazardly. While Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) units had been making forays into southern Lebanon during the second week of the conflict, the Israeli military leadership remained undecided over when and where–even whether–to deploy their ground units.

In part, the army’s indecisiveness over when, where and whether to deploy its major ground units was a function of the air force’s claims to victory. The Israeli Air Force (IAF) kept claiming that it would succeed from the air–in just one more day, and then another. This indecision was mirrored by the Western media’s uncertainty about when a ground campaign would take place–or whether in fact it had already occurred.

Lebanon to lodge complaint with UNSC against Israeli 'border wall'

Lebanon says it will file a complaint with the UN Security Council against the Israeli regime’s violation of a number of points contested by Beirut, especially a wall it has built near the Lebanese border.

Lebanese officials said Thursday they would raise the issue of the wall with the United Nations Security Council and a top US diplomat.

The comments came after Tel Aviv placed 25 cement blocks near the illegal Israeli settlement of Miskaf Aam, opposite the Lebanese town of Adaisseh, with six blocks placed on disputed points. In response, the Lebanese Army deployed reinforcements to the area.

“What happened today is dangerous and could spark a security incident,” a political source told Lebanon’s The Daily Star.

The blocks had been placed “without informing UNIFIL [United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon],” a Lebanese Army statement said.

Pompeo: US Won’t Accept Major Hezbollah Presence in Lebanon

Speaking in Cairo on Thursday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo set an uncomfortabe goal for the United States in Lebanon, the expulsion of Hezbollah. He said the US would never accept the status quo, wherein Hezbollah has a “major presence” in Lebanon.

The US has always had a problem with Hezbollah, viewing them as a terrorist organization because of their history of fighting Israel. Yet beyond its fighting force, Hezbollah is a huge faction inside Lebanon, including a major political party within the current ruling coalition.

While Pompeo tried to spin Hezbollah as part of “Iranian adventurism” across the region, the reality is that Hezbollah is a Lebanon-based organization that is thoroughly Lebanese. There is no place to expel them to.

Lebanon president warns of the consequences of Israel threats

Lebanese President Michel Aoun yesterday warned of the “Israeli threats” which could lead to new wars, displacement and ethnic cleansing.

Speaking before members of the diplomatic corps accredited to Lebanon in the capital Beirut, Aoun said that “peace does not take place while deals are made at the expense of the refugee who was expelled from his land and his identity was stolen”.

“Peace does not come at the expense of manipulating demography and changing the geographical and social parameters of countries. Peace does not result from deepening racism and rejecting the other.”

The Lebanese president was referring to US President Donald Trump’s proposed Middle East peace plan dubbed the “deal of the century”.

Why Trump's Advisors Keep Quashing His Realist Whims

The multitude of policy zigs and zags seems to constitute a case of a president suffering from foreign policy bipolar disorder. Yet a pattern may exist amidst all of the turmoil. Trump’s foreign policy instincts often appear to be a sound and refreshing contrast to the stale conventional wisdom that has led the United States to careen from one interventionist debacle to another over the past quarter-century. (His early hostile stance toward North Korea and his policy toward Iran at all times are the major exceptions to sound instincts.) But time and again Trump has allowed his advisers to talk him out of his initial (usually correct) positions. That’s not surprising. The president is not an avid reader about foreign policy (or apparently anything else), and his knowledge base is alarmingly shallow. That deficiency gives policy advisers an exceptional degree of influence.

Powerful U.S. forces work against pullout of troops from Syria

President Donald Trump’s announcement on Dec. 20 that his administration would quickly pull some 2,000 troops from Syria and 7,000 of the 14,000 in Afghanistan seemed to have caught many high-ranking U.S. as well and U.S. allies around the globe off guard.

It is unclear, however, to what extent the pullout will be able to be implemented. Trump is under a lot of pressure from even his supporters to back off or slow down the plan.

This often happens throughout history, when the core beliefs of a country promulgated by elites are challenged — and in the case of the U.S., it is both Republican and Democratic elites. The dismay at the retirement of Secretary of Defense James Mattis indicates the many battles ahead for a rebalancing of U.S. foreign policy.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The writer of this op-ed misses one very critical fact; the "winner" from this draw-down of US forces in Syria, is Israel's Benyamin Netanyahu, now fighting for his political life because he is on the keening edge of potentially being indicted for corruption by Israel's Attorney General.

Netanyahu has recently dissolved the Knesset, and set the date of 9 April for the next round of elections.

As now both Prime Minister and Minister of Defence, he can now wreak whatever havoc he wants in Syria (or Lebanon, or Iran), for these next 4 months until the election, with US collusion and cooperation from the commanders and their troops still on the ground.

And I would like to politely mention to the writer of this op-ed, that there will be utterly zero "rebalancing' of US Foreign Policy, particularly in the Middle East, as long as Trump is outsourcing his Middle East Policy to Prime Minister Netanyahu.

There are moments where there are goals to be achieved with which we should be aligned with Israel; but a regional war against Syria, Iran, and Lebanon, (with Russia most likely to take the side of these countries)at the enormous costs, which Tel Aviv fully expects to be expended in American blood, and American money?!?

So President Trump, I feel the need to strongly caution you, that the use of US troops, fighting and dying for what can only be characterized as a wretchedly apartheid, rogue theocracy with nuclear weapons, is not the highest and best use of US troops right now.

And at its point in its history, the US military doesn't have the weaponry; the troop strength; the money, or the manufacturing to insure a victory in this kind of war.

you are welcome, President Trump

REVEALED: Israel’s IDF Used Passenger Airliners as Cover During Christmas Day Attack on Damascus

Yesterday, Israel carried out an unprovoked Christmas Day attack against Syria. According to reports citing the Russian Ministry of Defense, six Israeli F16 fighters violated neighboring Lebanese airspace and while passing over Sidon, fired 16 laser-guided GBU-39 bombs towards targets in and around the capital city of Damascus, 14 of which were intercepted by Syrian air defense systems.

More shocking details were revealed today, as the Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed that the IDF jets flew in to firing position – just as two civilian passenger airliners were in the air preparing for their landings into both Beirut and Damascus airports.

As a result, Syrian military defense units did not deploy its surface-to-air missiles and electronic jamming “to prevent a tragedy” and instead allowed Damascus air traffic control divert one of its passenger flights to an emergency destination at Khmeimim in Latakia.

Israeli raids target Iranian weapons depots near Damascus

Syria’s air defenses have responded to a number of air raids in the vicinity of Damascus, Syrian media reported Tuesday night.

Al Arabiya’s correspondent said that the Israeli raids near Damascus were carried out from Lebanon’s airspace.

The director of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that Israeli raids were targeting weapons storage areas of Iranian militias and Hezbollah positions in the countryside of Damascus.

Rami Abdulrahman told Al Arabiya’s sister channel Al Hadath that Israeli raids targeted the western and southern suburbs of Damascus.

State television Al-Ekhbariya carried a breaking ticker saying air defenses had intercepted missiles. But it only referred to “hostile targets” in a later report.

Lebanese state-run National News Agency said Israeli war planes performed mock raids above southern Lebanon.

Israel Attacks Damascus on Christmas, SAA Air Defenses Intercept ‘Hostile Targets’ Over Capital

Reports are still preliminary, but it does appear that Israel is once again in violation of international law, as it violates both Lebanese airspace and Syria’s sovereignty by launching another belligerent attack against Syria’s capital city of Damascus.

According to multiple reports including Syrian state media SANA, the Syrian Arab Army’s ground-to-air missile defense systems around Damascus were deployed against incoming targets.

Thus far, reports of any casualties in Syria are still unknown.

According to Israeli military sources, Israeli air defenses were then “activated” against anti-aircraft missiles coming from Syria to target Israeli jets. Israel claims no damage was done, nor any injuries to IDF personnel.

Israeli forces ordered to stop work on wall near Lebanese border

Israeli forces Wedneday were forced to halt construction of a cement border wall opposite the southern Lebanese village of Kfar Kila after the Lebanese Army disputed several points planned for the wall.

The incident occurred hours after dozens of Israeli forces deployed in the area after Syria shot down Israeli missiles that were launched over Lebanese territory the night before, and also as a separate Israeli operation continued nearby to block alleged “Hezbollah tunnels” with cement.

A team from the Lebanese Army’s Geographic Affairs Unit was seen standing behind a border fence and marking disputed areas just beyond it. The Army then informed UNIFIL personnel on the ground, who in turn ordered the Israeli soldiers to move back seven meters behind the planned course of the cement wall.

IDF Strikes on Syria Created Direct Threat to Two Passenger Planes – Russian MoD

The Russian Defence Ministry has stated that neither of the passenger planes that were threatened due to an Israeli airstrike on Syria was related to Russian air carriers.

Kicking Palestinians Out of Refugee Camps in Lebanon

An eerie video composed of a recorded audio prayer and a photo of one "Hajj Jamal Ghalaini" occasionally pops up on Facebook. The voice is that of an alleged religious sheikh, praying for the well-being of the man in the photo for saving the Palestinian refugee youth of Lebanon, by facilitating their departure to Europe.

The video would have been just another odd social media post, were it not for the fact that Ghalaini is a real person, with his name recurring in the ongoing tragedy of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. Many have credited their successful "escape" from Lebanon by citing this person, who, kindly, they say, has made the journey to Europe far cheaper than all other human smugglers.

We know little about Ghalaini, except that he seems to operate brazenly, without much legal repercussions from Lebanese authorities or the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), which is, supposedly, the caretaker of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon.

Something strange is going on.

Operation "Northern Shield" at the Israeli-Lebanese Border: Why Hassan Nasrallah Remains Silent

Israeli propaganda and its docile Western media relays presented the operation as a large-scale military offensive that would strike a huge blow to the Party of God, as if the Zionist entity had entered Lebanese territory (or was about to do so), whether on land or underground. A speech by the Hezbollah Secretary General was announced for the same day by the Israeli and Western media, which would have seemed to confirm the importance of the Israeli operation. And given Hezbollah's silence, it was ultimately said that this silence was due to the shock in which the Lebanese Resistance found itself after this surprise operation that would have ruined its most secret plans.

Netanyahu is pushing the region to explode

All the signs suggest that the terrorist Benjamin Netanyahu is pushing the Middle East towards instability and the brink of an all-out war. They also suggest that the coming days and weeks may witness serious developments that no one can foresee or predict accurately.

There are many Israeli analysts and writers who believe that the Israeli Prime Minister’s remarks and plans are designed to eliminate or rather alleviate the enormous internal pressures to which he is being subjected, especially the bribery accusations against him and his wife and the police recommendation that he be investigated by the attorney general. This is not the first time that the police have made such a recommendation, and it seems like it won’t be the last.

NETANYAHU THREATENS LEBANON WITH INVASION. SYRIAN, RUSSIAN FORCES RESCUE CIVILIANS IN EUPHRATES VALLEY

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that there is a “reasonable possibility” that the Israeli military may have to conduct operations inside Lebanon territory. This move will go in the framework of the ongoing Operation Northern Shield, which is aimed at discovering and neutralizing Hezbollah cross-border tunnels.

Netanyahu also revealed that Israel will call for a U.N. Security Council meeting soon to demand a condemnation of the alleged Hezbollah actions.

“Israel expects an unequivocal condemnation of Hezbollah, the imposition of additional sanctions on Iran, a condemnation from the Lebanese government and a demand that it stops giving its approval for the use of its territory for these attacks against Israel,” Netanyahu said.

So far, Operation Northern Shield has been carried out on the Israeli side of the contact line only. However, Hezbollah already put its forces on high alert and warned Israel that it’s ready to respond to any aggression.

Operation Northern Shield: Israel’s new wars

Israel announced yesterday morning a military and engineering operation, which it dubbed “Operation Northern Shield”, aimed at destroying what it alleges are offensive tunnels belonging to the Lebanese resistance group, Hezbollah, on the border with Lebanon. This operation represents Israel’s new approach to war, which has been Israel’s favourite in recent years. It calls this approach “the War Between Wars” (WBW) which involves fighting battles with limited goals and avoids direct confrontation, instead relying on intelligence. It focuses on air force and special forces operations in a manner in line with the army’s 2015 strategic document. Why WBW and why “Operation Northern Shield”?

"We see the Hezbollah activities as a flagrant and blatant violation of Israeli authority," he told Reuters.

Leader: Hezbollah fully prepared to face Israel ‘enemy’

Hezbollah is on alert and ready for any attacks by Israel, political bureau member Hassan Hoballah said.

“The resistance today can resist any Israeli aggression and inflict losses on it and can strike the enemy, as happened in the last aggression on Gaza in mid-November and the July war and the one before it,” he said in an exclusive interview with Shehab news site.

“After the July aggression, the Israeli occupation does not dare to do any hostile action against the resistance because it knows that the resistance can hit back.”

“Hezbollah can not allow the [Israeli] occupation to single out any of the resistance fronts,” he said adding that “the resistance is an integrated chain and cannot be separated from the resistance in Gaza and Lebanon. The enemy is one and the resistance is one.”

Hezbollah Warns Israel: 'If You Dare Attack, You Will Regret it'

On the evening of Friday, November 30, Hezbollah's war media broadcasted this video addressed to Israel and subtitled in Hebrew, in response to recent Israeli military exercises simulating an aggression against southern Lebanon, an escalation of violations of Lebanese airspace –from which aggressions against Syria are usually carried out– by Israeli drones, and new threats to assassinate Hezbollah Secretary General. The statement in the video is excerpted from the latest speech by Hassan Nasrallah on November 10, 2018, and the footage shows in particular the precise coordinates of Israeli military bases that would be targeted in case of aggression. Let us remind that Hezbollah's policy is to target exclusively the military, and to hit the colonies and cities of the enemy only in response to the ongoing Israeli aggression against Lebanese civilians.

Israel offered no proof of border tunnels – Lebanon

Lebanon’s Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri said Wednesday that Israel has presented no evidence to prove its claims that a network of attack tunnels has been built by Hezbollah across the countries’ shared borders. The Israeli military on Tuesday launched an open-ended operation to destroy tunnels built by Hezbollah it said are aimed at infiltrating northern Israel. The UN peacekeeping mission said on Wednesday it will send a team to Israel to “ascertain facts,” calling for full access to all locations along the border, AP said.
