Britain 'deplores' Israel Decision To Claim West Bank Land

The British government said on Monday it deplored an Israeli decision to appropriate a large swathe of land inside the occupied West Bank, saying the move would seriously damage Israel's international reputation. On Sunday, Israel announced the appropriation of land in the Etzion Jewish settlement bloc near Bethlehem, a move which an anti-settlement group said was the biggest such claim in 30 years. Some 500,000 Israelis live among 2.4 million Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, territory that the Jewish state captured in the 1967 Middle East war.

In what is becoming an ever more regular occurrence for the NHS, it has been reported that the East Midlands Ambulance Service has lost a disk containing the notes of 42,000 patients’ who had been treated by paramedics in the last few months.

This incident once again underlines the dangers of organisations holding increasing amounts of personal information about individuals both electronically or in paper format. It seems obvious that the greater the amount of information that is held in one place, the more likely it is to go missing, either by accident or as the result of a deliberate breach. Indeed, just last week Kent Social Care Professionals unintentionally sent out an email containing the names, addresses and phone numbers of 120 elderly and vulnerable individuals to nearly 200 people.

Nato to create high-readiness force to counter Russian threat

Nato is to create a 4,000-strong "spearhead" high-readiness force that can be deployed rapidly in eastern Europe and the Baltic states to help protect member nations against potential Russian aggression, according to Nato officials.

Leaders from the 28 Nato countries are expected to approve the plan at the alliance's summit in Wales when the Ukraine crisis tops the agenda on Friday.

The creation of the Truthy database by Indiana University researchers has drawn sharp criticism from free-speech advocates and others concerned over government censorship of political expression.

Police State: US Military Plans to Crush Dissident Political Groups, Target Leaders with Sniper Fire

Links tweeted by WikiLeaks this week called attention to the development of crowd control doctrines by the US military, the most recent of which are codified in a US Army Techniques document dated April 2014, titled “Civil Disturbances.” Main concepts elaborated in the document include crowd dynamics, behavior theories, crowd types, and a “Graduated Response Matrix.”

The document points to various dissident political groups as main targets of the Army’s crowd control planning. “Examples of well-organized groups are anarchists, antiglobalization groups, and anti free enterprise groups,” the US Army document states.

The paper further cites demonstrations coordinated by labor groups, specifically citing the 2011 protests at the Wisconsin capitol. “Labor unions played a large role in the 2011 Wisconsin protests that included passing on information and transporting participants,” the document states.

NAVY Nurse Who Refused To Force Feed Guantanamo Inmates Is Facing Court Martial

Detainees at Guantanamo Bay have been protesting their imprisonment and cruel treatment with ongoing hunger strikes for the past several months, and have been attacked and force fed by guards as a result. These actions were condemned by more that 250 doctors from the UK, the US, Ireland, Germany, Australia, Italy and the Netherlands.

One nurse that was responsible for force feeding the prisoners, recently made news by refusing to do so. For a length of time this nurse obeyed the orders that he was given, but eventually began to regret his actions, and became a conscientious objector. A spokesperson for the NAVY would not release the name of the nurse, nor the details of their case. They only revealed that the nurse was sent home early and that he is currently “pending court martial”.

Anyone who has ever had a doctor recommend NG feeding for a period of time understands that, even when done by the gentlest, and most competent medical professionals, the procedure is still rough on the system.

To have this done as punishment for being on a hunger fast, against inhumane conditions, when one has never been convicted of any wrong doing, is reprehensible, immoral, and brutal, and should never be carried out at all.

Newly declassified documents reveal how U.S. agreed to Israel's nuclear program

The Obama administration this week declassified papers, after 45 years of top-secret status, documenting contacts between Jerusalem and Washington over American agreement to the existence of an Israeli nuclear option. The Interagency Security Classification Appeals Panel (ISCAP), which is in charge of approving declassification, had for decades consistently refused to declassify these secrets of the Israeli nuclear program.

So, let me get this straight.

The US government has known, incontrovertibly, since the late 60s that Israel is a nuclear armed country.

And yet, the US government consistently breaks its own law, the Symington Amendment, by continuing to provide financial and military assistance to Israel, even though this law forbids the US government from doing so to any nuclear-armed country which refuses to sign the NNPT, and does not allow for its nuclear facilities to be inspected.

A logical question, then, has to be asked: how can a government which refuses to obey its own laws expect citizens of that country to obey that country's laws?!?

At the moment, the US government appears illegitimate, corrupt, and totally purchased by the corporations which fund election cycles.

Voters are nearly irrelevant, and totally expendable to those in the bowels of Congress.

Islamist Militia Group Seizes US Embassy In Tripoli, Holds Pool Party

Probably the 'oddest' headline of the day but in yet another show of disdain towards US military might, the Islamist militia group known as "Dawn Of Libya" has 'secured' an annex of the U.S. embassy in Tripoli. As Reuters reports, the United States evacuated its embassy in Tripoli on July 26, driving diplomats across the border into Tunisia; but a YouTube video showed the breach of the vacated diplomatic facility by an armed group, with fighters seen milling around a swimming pool. A rebel takeover of the compound would now deliver another symbolic blow to U.S. policy toward Libya, which Western governments fear is teetering toward becoming a failed state.

Codswallop! After Gaddafi was executed, Libya is a failed state.

Remember how exultant this administration was right after Gaddafi was executed, and the US installed their own puppet government, putting Libya back on the dollar standard, which had been threatened by Gaddafi wanting to create a gold-backed dinar?!?

And Mr. President, do not even THINK about Americans signing off on a second invasion of Libya, considering how spectacularly horrifically the first one has finally gone.

NATO Membership For Ukraine – Another Move On The Grand Chessboard

As the geopolitical tug of war continues to take place over the ravaged country of Ukraine, both sides of the conflict – NATO and Russia – have begun taking steps toward a more solidified structure of alliances that will no doubt have massive reverberations across the world and possibly lead to direct confrontation between nuclear powers.

Indeed, as further evidence that the Western NATO bloc desires an ultimate conflict with Russia and the BRICS powers, NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen has indicated that Ukraine is firmly on the path to become an eventual member of the NATO alliance.

Simultaneously, West Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatseniyuk submitted a bill to the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada that would cancel Ukraine’s “non-aligned” status and restart Ukraine’s official attempt to become a member of NATO.

Webmaster's Commentary: 

Yatseniyuk and Poroshenko have an industrial-strength problem here, and that is one of timing.

The next NATO General Assembly happens this Thursday and Friday in Cardiff, Wales, and NATO has not indicated that it will be adding new members at this time. They may have an emergency consultation after that to bring Ukraine in, but NATO leadership understands that Ukraine has really nothing to give NATO, save for a potential military confrontation with Russia, and because of the effect of existing sanctions against Russia (which may result in a potential turn off of gas which Europe desperately needs), may be very hesitant to accept Ukraine as a member.

Ukraine is dead broke, and in arrears on its payment to GAZPROM, the Russian energy company from which it gets the majority of its energy.

Ukraine may well balkanize, due to its financial problems, long before NATO deliberations on its membership have come to fruition, at which time the issue will become moot, and such a balkanization will put Russia in the ascendency once again.

The U.S. Government Can Brand You a Terrorist Based on a Facebook Post

The US government’s web of surveillance is vast and interconnected. Now we know just how opaque, inefficient and discriminatory it can be.

As we were reminded again just this week, you can be pulled into the National Security Agency’s database quietly and quickly, and the consequences can be long and enduring. Through ICREACH, a Google-style search engine created for the intelligence community, the NSA provides data on private communications to 23 government agencies. More than 1,000 analysts had access to that information.

This kind of data sharing, however, isn’t limited to the latest from Edward Snowden’s NSA files. It was confirmed earlier this month that the FBI shares its master watchlist, the Terrorist Screening Database, with at least 22 foreign governments, countless federal agencies, state and local law enforcement, plus private contractors.

The measure of “extreme poverty” used here is based on one of the World Bank’s key indicators of global poverty: $2 per person, per day. Tellingly, the World Bank does not release official estimates for the United States for this metric because it is meant to capture poverty based on “the standards of the poorest countries.” … Living below this metric is widely considered to be a marker of extreme destitution, which is assumed to be very uncommon among wealthy nations.

They further explain:

Households are counted as being in extreme poverty if they report $2 dollars or less per person, per day in total household income in a given month (approximated as $60 per person, per month in 2011 dollars). … The official poverty line for a family of three would equate to roughly $17.00 per person, per day, averaged over a year, so our measure is roughly 13 percent of the official poverty line.

Over 300 injured in clashes as thousands demand Pakistan PM resign

Police in Islamabad, Pakistan’s capital, fire tear gas as at least 25,000 people people have gathered in the city center demanding Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s resignation. A group of protesters threatened to march on the PM’s house to force him to quit.

At least 300 people were wounded in clashes between police and protesters outside Sharif’s house and the Parliament House, medical sources say.

At least 184people have been taken Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences hospital in Islamabad, spokesman for the hospital, Wasim Khawaja told AFP while the Poly Clinic hospital received 130 wounded so far.

Mexican Judge Departs From Script, Turns Monsanto’s Mexican Dream Into Legal Nightmare

The latest country to put a spanner in the works is Mexico. This past week the country’s Federal Court voted to uphold Judge Marroquín Zaleta’s 2013 ruling to suspend the granting of licenses for GMO field trials sought by Monsanto, Syngenta, Dow, Pionner-Dupont and Mexico’s SEMARNAT (Environment and Natural Resources Ministry). Zaleta’s ruling was in response to a suit brought by a collective of 53 scientists and 22 civil rights organizations and NGOs.

Bloomberg Primes the Pump of the Deflationary Dialectic

Bloomberg offers two editorials on Europe that tell us economic growth is not going well. The one above speaks to the issue of Mario Draghi's lack of courage in terms of implementing a program of aggressive money printing.

The other one, which we excerpt below, is a kind of call to arms by Bloomberg itself – via its editorial staff – demanding that Europe's leaders scrap the fiscal pact negotiated in 2012 that mandates certain austerity measures.

Taken together, they seem to be indicating a certain level of distress, and yet there are other ways to regard this double-barreled explosion of concern over the EU's still-eroding economic condition.

Study: PA’s debt would cost taxpayers $14,500 each to pay off today

Pennsylvania is famous for its potholes, but it has an even bigger sinkhole problem that could cost taxpayers way more than minor car repairs caused by pock-marked roads.

Truth in Accounting, an economic think tank based in Chicago, released its Fiscal Year 2013 State of the States Report last week. It determined Pennsylvania is a “sinkhole state,” meaning it’s “sinking in debt.”

While the Keystone State owns $38.9 billion in available assets, it owes more than $100 billion, the report says. That makes for $62 billion in obligations, which have been pushed toward the future.

China to Begin Building Power of Siberia Gas Pipeline in First Half of 2015

Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli on Monday announced that his country would begin the construction of its part of the Power of Siberia gas pipeline in the first half of 2015.

“The Chinese side has already planned to begin the construction of the Chinese part of the pipeline in the first half of next year. And we must use effort so that we complete construction and the beginning of the pipeline’s use in 2018,” Zhang said during the opening ceremony of the construction of the Chinese part of the pipeline, at which Russian President Vladimir Putin was also present.

After 10 years of negotiations, in May 2014, Russia and China signed a 30-year deal on the supply of 38 billion cubic meters of natural gas to China annually.

The 2,200-mile Power of Siberia pipeline running from the Chayanda oil and gas field in Yakutia will be used to deliver gas to Russia’s Far East as well as to export it to China. The estimated cost of its construction is 770 billion rubles [$21 billion].

Israel announces major West Bank land appropriation for settlement

Israel appropriated a swath of 990 acres in the West Bank on Sunday and declared the Palestinian area south of Bethlehem to be Israeli "state lands," local media reported.

According to the veteran anti-settlement group Peace Now, the declaration is the largest of its kind since the 1980s and stands to change the area dramatically.

For those who still say it's a myth that cops are given quotas for how many tickets they have to write, maybe you've never been to Waldo, Florida. The National Motorists Association listed Waldo as the third worst speed trap for a town of 50,000 people or less in 2012, and it's so bad, billboards like the one above are taken out to warn drivers before they get there.

Millions spent on advertising campaign to help boost Army Reserve...but just 140 recruits join up in six months

Under the Armed Forces shake-up, ministers are cutting the strength of the regular Army by 20,000, while doubling the Territorial Army – now called the Army Reserve – to 30,000 by 2020.

But the latest MoD statistics reveal that the number of trained reservists rose in the first six months of the year from 19,150 to 19,290 – an increase of just 140, or 23 a month. At this rate, it would take 39 years to meet the 30,000 target.

'Biggest in 30 years': Israel expropriates 400 hectares of W. Bank land

The Israeli military-run Civil Administration has announced a land appropriation of some 400 hectares in the West Bank to an almost immediate condemnation from anti-settlement activists, who say this is the biggest seizure in 30 years.

Around 400 hectares of land in the Etzion settlement area near the town of Bethlehem were declared “state land, on the instructions of the political echelon” by the Civil Administration on Sunday. Israel Radio said that announcement was made in response to the killing of three Jewish teens in June by Hamas militants in the same area.

The building of a major settlement in the area, known as Gevaot, has been on the cards since 2000 and last year the Israeli government invited tenders for the building of 1,000 houses on the site.

Israel on Sunday confiscated nearly 1,000 acres of privately owned Palestinian land near an Israeli settlement south of Bethlehem in the West Bank — a move described by Israeli rights group Peace Now as “unprecedented in its scope since the 1980s."

G4S Guantanamo contract ‘breaches UK policy’

The government is being asked to take action against British firm G4S, after it emerged the company has won a £71m contract to provide a range of ‘base support’ services at Guantánamo Bay.

Legal charity Reprieve, which assists Guantánamo prisoners such as British resident Shaker Aamer, has submitted a dossier of evidence to the UK’s responsible business watchdog, the National Contact Point for the OECD Guidelines (UK NCP). According to volcanologist Ármann Höskuldsson, the eruption in Holuhraun lava field is more powerful now than it was this morning.

A video of the lava by Þorsteinn Jónsson of the Institute of Earth Sciences can be seen here on the website of national broadcaster RÚV.

The Aviation Color Code for Bárðarbunga has been lowered from red to orange.

The eruption site is outside of the glacier and the fissure is estimated to be 1.5 km long with lava flowing to the northeast, as stated in a report from the Icelandic Department of Civil Protection issued at 2 pm.

The report also states that to volcanic ash has been detected by the radar system and that the civil protection level is still ‘Alert Phase.’

Highland closures remain in effect and all airports are open.

Monsanto has sued farmers for 16 years, never lost a case

Where is the justice? Since 1997, Monsanto has filed 145 lawsuits, or on average about 9 lawsuits every year for 16 straight years, against farmers who have “improperly reused their patented seeds.”

The biotech giant hasn’t lost a single case, either. Not one. This includes when farmers tried to sue Monsanto over cross-pollination of their organic crops with GMO seed. For example, a federal court dismissed one of those cases, saying that it couldn’t protect Monsanto against unfair lawsuits should they side in the farmers’ favor.

What about unfair business practices? What about 92% of people saying they want their food labeled if it contains genetically modified ingredients? What about the right of farmers to grow food from seed that hasn’t been altered to turn it into a DNA freak show?

Ecuador to replace the US dollar with its own digital currency

Ecuador is planning to create the world’s first digital currency issued by the country’s central bank, in what is seen by many as a step to abandon the US dollar, the currency now used by the Central American country.

The currency is expected to start circulating in December, according to the country’s Central Bank.

The technical details or the name of the currency have not been revealed, although the officials stated that it would not be a crypto-currency like Bitcoin.

The new currency is expected to co-exist with the US dollar, the current official money Ecuador uses, and will be channeled for 2.8 million people in the country – 40 per cent of the participants in the economy – who are too poor to afford the usual banking.

Use of the currency will be voluntary, and it will not be used to pay the state employees.

It will be possible to make and get payments via cellphones, Central Bank’s deputy director Gustavo Solorzano told AP.

European Council President Herman Van Rompuy said the EU was working urgently on further restrictive measures.

If Saudi Arabia really wanted to hurt the United States, they don't need to fly airplanes into skyscrapers to do it. All they have to do is ask for their money back, all at once. The resulting damage to the US financial system would make 9-11 look like a minor inconvenience in comparison.

And it would be perfectly legal for Saudi Arabia to ask for their money back.

I am reposting this article because three pro-Israel congressmen are claiming that there is a secret 9-11 document that they are demanding to be made public, one that places the blame for 9-11 on Saudi Arabia. Walter Jones was on the Ron Paul channel today pushing this latest attempt to protect Israel from the consequences of their actions.

This is actually a repeat of the same stunt they tried 2 years ago in which they tease the public with the story of a secret 9-11 document and try to get everyone to demand to see it. The document frames Saudi Arabia for 9-11, to protect Israel.

But as this article lays out, Saudi Arabia didn't have a motive to do 9-11, and if they wanted to hurt the US, they would not need airplanes into skyscrapers to do it.

It is a new word for an old trick, and I am amazed that they are still playing the same old game, but I guess the FBI can always find some dumb-assed idiot to fall for it and do their dirty work of wrecking a career for them.

Israel confiscates 1000 acres of Palestinian land south of Bethlehem

Israeli authorities on Sunday announced the confiscation of around 4,000 dunums (1,000 acres) of private Palestinian land south of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank.

Palestinian owners of the land were given 45 days to submit formal objections to the announcement in Israeli courts, otherwise all confiscated lands would automatically become Israeli government property.

Mayor of the nearby Palestinian town of Surif Muhammad Ghuneimat told Ma'an that Israeli forces posted signs in private olive tree orchards in the area warning that they have been confiscated by the Israeli government.

NATO plans to dispatch 10,000 troops to eastern Ukraine

NATO is reportedly planning to send an expeditionary force composed of 10,000 troops from seven different member states to Ukraine amid rising tensions with Russia over the conflict in Eastern European country.

The creation of the force will be led by Britain and involve contributions from Denmark, Latvia, Estonia, Lithuania, Norway, and the Netherlands, media outlets reported on Saturday.

Canada is also interested in joining the plan, but it is not known what its final decision will be.

Although no formal announcement has been made yet, British Prime Minister David Cameron is expected to declare the force formation at the upcoming NATO summit in Wales on September 4.

Menendez: US should provide arms to Ukraine to fight Russian ‘invasion’

The chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Sunday said the U.S. and its allies should provide lethal weapons to Ukraine’s military, calling Russia’s recent incursions into the country an “invasion.”

“This is a watershed moment,” Sen. Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) said during an interview from the capital city of Kiev on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “Thousands of Russian troops are here … and they are directly engaged in an invasion.”

President Obama has been reluctant to provide even defensive weapons to Ukraine’s military, believing Kiev had the capabilities to fight pro-Russian separatists in the eastern part of the country.

Menendez said that while that may have been the president’s “initial assessment,” circumstances on the ground today are “dramatically different.”

The Australian Bureau of Meteorology has been caught red-handed manipulating temperature data to show "global warming" where none actually exists.

Ron Paul: US govt. knew about 9/11

Former US congressman Ron Paul has suggested that the US government knew about the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks before the incident occurred inside the country.

“I believe that if we ever get the full truth [about 9/11], we’ll find out that our government had it in the records exactly what the plans were, or at least close to it,” Paul said in a radio interview with Money and Markets host Charles Goyette last Friday.

“You already mentioned that [the US government] had been warned that something was going to happen,” he added.

“Does that prove the fact that our president and others actually sat down and laid the plans and did this? I don’t think it does,” he said.

The former presidential candidate also noted that the crimes committed by former al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden were “minor” compared to the harm the United States has caused since the 2001 attacks.

The Less Americans Know about Ukraine's Location, the More They Want U.S. To Intervene

On March 28-31, 2014, we asked a national sample of 2,066 Americans (fielded via Survey Sampling International Inc., or SSI), what action they wanted the U.S. to take in Ukraine, but with a twist: In addition to measuring standard demographic characteristics and general foreign policy attitudes, we also asked our survey respondents to locate Ukraine on a map as part of a larger, ongoing project to study foreign policy knowledge. We wanted to see where Americans think Ukraine is and to learn if this knowledge (or lack thereof) is related to their foreign policy views. We found that only one out of six Americans can find Ukraine on a map, and that this lack of knowledge is related to preferences: The farther their guesses were from Ukraine’s actual location, the more they wanted the U.S. to intervene with military force.
