The OTHER Government Revolving Door: Sheriff's Departments, State Troopers Provide New Homes For Bad Cops

It's not just our nation's legislators that enjoy a "revolving door" -- one that moves them from Congress to the private sector and back again, to the mutual benefit of legislators and certain industries… not so much the rest of America. There's another revolving door out there -- one that keeps bad cops employed in the law enforcement sector. It's incredibly difficult for police departments to shed their "bad apples," what with police unions pushing back hard on the few occasions that the blue line fails to hold. But even if they do manage to cut one loose, there's a good chance this former officer will just end up carrying a badge and gun for someone else. As we covered earlier this year, the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department made sure a plethora of bad cops weren't hurting for money, either by bringing them on board directly or placing them in open positions at the jails under its control.

What the Fake Syria Sniper Boy Video Tells Us About Media Experts

Many mainstream media websites helped a fake video go viral this month. The video showing a young Syrian boy running through sniper fire to save a little girl was exposed as a fake when the Norwegian producer, Lars Klevberg, made the fact public.

One of the stated aims of the Norwegian film makers was to “see how the media would respond to a fake video.” This article examines how that experiment went...

A new study finds highly malignant mumps infections in those successfully vaccinated against the virus...

A provocative new study titled, "Epidemic of complicated mumps in previously vaccinated young adults in the South-West of France," reveals that the MMR vaccine, despite generating high rates of presumably protective IgG antibodies against mumps, does not always translate into real-world immunity against infection as we have repeatedly been told. To the contrary, the study details cases where, despite finding the presence of high levels of antibodies against the mumps virus, patients contracted a malignant form of mumps that only rarely follows from natural, community acquired infection...

West Cynically Plays For More Time to Deny Iran

The Vienna talks this week, involving US secretary of state John Kerry, came unstuck because the Western position suddenly hardened at the last hour, according to the British Guardian. Only last week, Russian officials expressed cautious optimism that a breakthrough could be attained.

After a full year of tortuous negotiations, the P5+1 group and Iran have now extended the nuclear talks for another six months. The move comes after foreign ministers from the US, Britain, France, Russia, China, Germany and Iran failed this week to conclude a final deal in Vienna on the long-running nuclear dispute.

Despite having secured an interim deal last November, which gave a partial lifting of international sanctions to Iran in return for Iranian self-imposed restrictions on its nuclear programme, the group of world powers could not in the end come up with a final accord on the deadline set for November 24 this week.

Ferguson protesters target Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade: Activists plan to stop New York extravaganza

Demonstrators in New York who have been protesting the grand jury decision in Ferguson this week are plotting a revolt against the Thanksgiving Day Parade to 'make people stop and listen' and 'make history'.

The hashtag #StopTheParade set social media on fire on Wednesday night, after thousands took over the streets of Manhattan and Brooklyn on Tuesday after police officer Darren Wilson escaped charges over the shooting death of Michael Brown.

The New York Post is reporting that those protests - in which 10 of an estimated 3,000 were arrested - have inspired a bigger plan to use the spotlight surrounding the parade to push what they say is injustice.

What The People Who Are Telling You What 'The Media Isn't Telling You' Aren't Telling You About Ferguson

Reposted and updated, lest any try to confound the issue further by saying that this is a somehow ill-chosen battle -- and implying (or stating outright) that common sense, armed with the facts, would find that Wilson's use of undue and lethal force ending the life of Brown without cause, was in some way arguable or justified

POLICE LIED:
BROWN WAS KILLED
***148 FEET***
FROM WILSON'S SUV
(NOT 35)

When the police came out the morning after Mike Brown was killed and deliberately included the distance between the SUV and the shooting, it successfully created a very particular narrative. The arc of their initial story, magnified in importance by the absence of even one official report, is that Darren Wilson shot and killed a young man who, in a short distance from the SUV, posed him grave harm. How far Mike Brown actually fled, how far Darren Wilson chased him, and where each of them were in relation to each other and to the SUV, are facts of paramount importance. If Mike Brown fled over 148 feet away from Darren Wilson, it clearly suggests that Brown—unarmed, shot, missing a shoe, in lounge clothes—feared for his life and not the other way around.

Excellent analysis of photo evidence, and video (h/t Daily Kos), as well as police, autopsy, and ballistic reports. Let's not get confused here.

ASEAN Economic Community – Why, For What, and By Whom

Tony Cartalucci
Activist Post

On TV, upon the magazine rack, in schools, and on billboards around the country, the coming ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) is being heralded everywhere across Southeast Asia.

Upon ASEAN’s official website, the AEC is described as:

"The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) shall be the goal of regional economic integration by 2015. AEC envisages the following key characteristics: (a) a single market and production base, (b) a highly competitive economic region, (c) a region of equitable economic development, and (d) a region fully integrated into the global economy."

The AEC is an unquestionable inevitability – and more alarmingly – an inevitability absolutely none of the many hundreds of millions of Southeast Asian citizens have asked for, voted for, or have any direct say in regards to. So inevitable is AEC’s unfurling in 2015, that few have even bothered to ask “why?” “for what?” and “by whom?” ...

What the Media Isn’t Telling You About Ferguson

Whereas the hundreds of cases of egregious police brutality directed against people of all colors every year are routinely ignored or forgotten by the mainstream media and political leaders, the race baiters only ever direct African-Americans to get excited about ambiguous or outright justifiable cases like Trayvon Martin or Michael Brown.

This misdirection succeeds in fooling activists into rallying behind lost causes, while convincing the majority of Americans that people who complain about police brutality are ignorant, stupid, bias and even violent.

This is the one true narrative that the mainstream media won’t tell you about in advance of expected further unrest in Ferguson and other major American cities in the days and weeks to follow.

Possible Motives for Ousting Hagel

At the start of Barack Obama’s second term, Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel was seen as the best hope for standing up to the neocons, inside and outside the administration. Though Hagel proved to be a weak champion, his sudden removal could portend more trouble ahead.

The abrupt resignation of Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel – along with the failure to reach a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear program on the same day – does not augur well for the last quarter of Barack Obama’s presidency, reflecting his continuing tendency to let the neocons have their way.

The CIA and Homeland Security want to delete almost all their emails

Usually, deleting emails is a no-fanfare, one-click affair -- but not when you're the Central Intelligence Agency or the Department of Homeland Security. Both agencies have recently submitted proposals to the National Archives and Records Administration that outline their plans to delete years' worth of emails, which the Archives has already tentatively approved. The CIA apparently turned one in to comply with the administration's directive, ordering federal agencies to conjure up viable plans to better manage government emails by 2016. If approved, all the correspondences of every person to ever be employed by the CIA will be flushed down the digital toilet three years after they leave. All messages older than seven years old will also be nuked, and only the digital missives of 22 top officials will be preserved -- something which several senators do not want to happen.

With Everyone Focused on Ferguson, Obama Quietly Passing 3,400 New Regulations Before Thanksgiving

Although the government and mainstream media perfectly timed the Ferguson grand jury decision to go off right after President Obama passed executive amnesty (which, magically, no one in the mainstream media is talking about anymore), it also works out well for the White House that this event transpired right before the upcoming holiday.

Why, you might ask?

Because the Obama administration has prepared, for the fifth time now, to oh-so-quietly release 3,415 brand spanking new regulations right before Thanksgiving while everyone just so happens to be totally distracted and focusing on the orchestrated civil disorder going on in Ferguson.

Media ‘gagged over bid to report MP child sex cases’

Two newspaper executives have told the Observer that their publications were issued with D-notices – warnings not to publish intelligence that might damage national security – when they sought to report on allegations of a powerful group of men engaging in child sex abuse in 1984. One executive said he had been accosted in his office by 15 uniformed and two non-uniformed police over a dossier on Westminster paedophiles passed to him by the former Labour cabinet minister Barbara Castle.

The other said that his newspaper had received a D-notice when a reporter sought to write about a police investigation into Elm Guest House, in southwest London, where a group of high-profile paedophiles was said to have operated and may have killed a child. Now it has emerged that these claims are impossible to verify or discount because the D-notice archives for that period “are not complete”.

Calling Sens. Mitchell, Daschle—Your “Bipartisan” Center Is In Funny Company

The question is, how was it that the foreign policy project of a “bipartisan” organization—founded by two relatively liberal former Democratic Majority Leaders and two relatively moderate former Republican Majority Leaders—was effectively captured and held captive for no less than seven years by hard-core neoconservatives determined to sabotage a top foreign-policy priority of a sitting Democratic president?

Former Democratic Sens. George Mitchell and Tom Daschle co-founded the Bipartisan Policy Center(BPC), along with their former Republican colleagues and fellow former majority leaders, Sens. Howard Baker and Bob Dole back in 2007. The Center, which describes itself as a “non-profit organization that drives principled solutions through rigorous analysis, reasoned negotiations and respectful dialogue,” has generally promoted mainstream, centrist positions on a range of issues over the years, including economic and energy policy, governance, health, and homeland security.

After Obama and Rice, against earlier promises, secretly extend U.S. combat in Afghanistan, the number decided after 20 NSC meetings is already again up in the air and likely to increase. Such decision making exemplifies mismanagement by Susan Rice, not by Hagel. Rice wanted Hagel fired because she was pissed when Hagel called her out on the chaotic non-policy she developed against the Islamic State and with regard to Syria. As a realist he knows that the U.S. will need the Syrian army under President Assad to push the Islamic State back into the underground. Against the advice of the military Rice, a "liberal interventionist", insists on ousting Assad.

National Guard and police failed to protect businesses targeted by rioters during last night’s chaos, leading to charges that the Obama administration issued a stand down order.

His comments followed Ferguson Mayor James Knowles’ complaint that his request for National Guard assistance was repeatedly ignored by Democrat Governor Jay Nixon last night.

Ferguson: Why was the grand jury decision kept secret for hours?

During the height of the months-long protests in Ferguson last summer, police said demonstrators could protest all they want -- as long as they stayed home after dark.

The reasoning back then: Troublemakers from outside the city come in to create chaos under cover of darkness, making police's job of maintaining order difficult.

And yet, even though a grand jury reached a decision on whether to indict Officer Darren Wilson by Monday afternoon, the decision wasn't publicized until hours later -- around 8 p.m. in Missouri.

So why did officials wait so long?

via Daily Kos. Excellent presentation of facts! Sources and backup sources hyperlinked.

"See his video below and pay attention to the statements at 1:13 & 6:01"

"At that time, when the chief said the "entire scene" was just 35 feet in distance from the "car door to the shooting," every observer accepted it as a negligible fact and thought little about it, instead zeroing in on why Darren Wilson stopped Mike Brown in the first place and why a police officer would shoot a young man who was surrendering with his hands up."

"It turns, out, though, that the distance Mike Brown fled was not 35 feet, as was stated in the press conference and cited in hundreds of articles since. Nor was it 45 feet, or 75 feet, or even 95 feet, but approximately 148 feet away from Darren Wilson’s SUV. Below, you will find photos from the day of the murder, maps, infographics, and more to confirm for you that the distance was more 500 percent farther away than originally claimed by Chief Belmar and subsequently quoted as fact in almost every narrative of the case."

And what have we gotten in return? Insults, interference, and outright threats – not to mention one of the most effective (and obnoxious) spying operations conducted on our soil by a foreign power.

Manufacturers hide information from doctors about ingredients and conceal their sinister plans for vaccine production so that doctors will continue to feel comfortable recommending vaccines. Doctors have no possibility whatsoever of knowing the complete composition of vaccines, nor do health authorities – or, in fact, anyone else.

Here are some of the methods manufacturers use to conceal the presence of ingredients in vaccines...

Biden in Kiev on US Regime-Change Victory Tour

Russia this week condemned the dangerous escalation of US military involvement in Ukraine. Moscow’s foreign ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevich said the arms announcement «broke all agreements» and that it would further destabilize the country and make a political resolution of the conflict less likely.

The next US planes to follow Biden’s will be loaded with weapons and other non-lethal munitions, as earlier this week Washington announced for the first time that it is to start supplying the Kiev regime with military hardware. Those weapons are to include anti-tank and air defence systems, sniper rifles and machine-guns.

Shocker: Up to 30,000 Lois Lerner Emails "Recovered"

Well, well, well...what have we here?

Here's what the Washington Examiner reported today:

Up to 30,000 missing emails sent by former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner have been recovered by the IRS inspector general, five months after they were deemed lost forever.

The U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) informed congressional staffers from several committees on Friday that the emails were found among hundreds of “disaster recovery tapes” that were used to back up the IRS email system.

Does anyone else find it funny that suddenly - shortly after midterm elections - these emails have been recovered?

Will the Iran Deal-Wreckers Prevail?

Iran appears ready to sign an agreement tightly constraining its nuclear program in exchange for some sanctions relief, but neocons and other U.S. hardliners appear determined to wreck the deal, which could make Mideast tensions even worse, writes ex-CIA analyst Paul R. Pillar

As of this writing the greatest chance of wrecking it appears to involve not what is going on at the negotiating tables in Europe but instead what the U.S. Congress may do back in Washington to sabotage the work of the diplomats. The energy for the Congressional wrecking ball comes, as it always has, from three sources.

RT talks to U.S. foreign policy analyst Soraya Ulrich

Soraya Ulrich is not optimistic that a deal would be reached before the deadline. She raises the point that this is not just about Iran, this is a fight about upholding international laws and international treaties, which are being violated by the United States. She notes that Iran has never violated the NPT (Non-Proliferation Treaty), yet it is being accused of doing so. If we succumb to the violation by one party i.e United States and its allies in this case, then international laws and international treaties will loose all meaning and other countries will fall prey to such lawlessness.

Moment of Truth — Iran and Obama

President Obama cannot mollify those critics inside as well as outside his administration who want unconditional surrender from the IRI (Islamic Republic of Iran)and still expect to get an agreement. Humiliation is a dangerous and delicate business. Especially so when the party whom you intend to humiliate is a proud people and its leaders willful.

A recommendation: Sign the nuclear accord with the Islamic Republic of Iran. Announce it with great fanfare. Declare that this opens a new era in relations between the two countries and holds out the prospect for achieving peace and stability across the region. By acting in this way, the United States would redraw the diplomatic map of the Middle East in ways that open opportunities for resolution of its internecine conflicts and for the establishment of a measure of stability.

Why Do We Allow Ukraine’s Government to Write the Official Report on Their Shoot-Down of MH17?

There are only two suspects in the shoot-down of the MH17 Malaysian airliner over Ukraine on July 17th: the separatist rebels, whom the Ukrainian Government charge had shot it down mistaking it for one of the Ukrainian Air Force bombers that routinely drop bombs onto the separatists and their families and indiscriminately onto everyone else in that region; or otherwise the Ukrainian Air Force itself, as a means for President Obama to be able to win increased international sanctions against Russia for Russia’s support of those blamed rebels.

UN resolution on Iran mockery of justice

The UN consciously or unconsciously plays into the hands of the pro-Israeli pressure groups in Canada and only puts on an ugly show of duplicity in imposing a ruling against the Islamic Republic.

The farce becomes more markedly absurd when you consider the plethora of human rights abuses going unpunished in the world with the UN laying a lid of ignorance on these blatant violations.

Iran has strongly lambasted the UN resolution, saying that “the UN’s legal mechanisms have turned into a tool in the hands of the West.”

The irony of the resolution is that the measure was initially drafted by Canada which has itself a disgracing history of human rights abuse against the aborigines in the country. Further to that, Ottawa has constantly and vehemently thrown its full-throated support behind Tel Aviv in its inconceivably ruthless crimes against the people of Palestine.

The very same West who is absolutely outraged about the arrest of Pussy Riot activist and who seems to seriously believe that organizing a "gay pride parade' in Moscow is a human right is apparently totally indifferent to the gang rape of 12-14 year old girls.

American Ranking Plummets in Global Index of 'Personal Freedoms'

In an age of expanding national security powers, increasing surveillance state, and rolled-back civil liberties protections, Americans' perception of their own personal freedoms is plummeting, according to the annual ranking by the Legatum Institute in London.

In Washington D.C. this week to promote their findings, researchers with the Legatum Institute measure a nation's prosperity on a number of factors including health, safety, education, economy, opportunity, social capital, governance and personal freedoms.

According to the 2014 Index (pdf) released earlier this month, in the measure of personal freedom, the United States has fallen from 9th place in 2010 to 21st worldwide—behind such countries as Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

How Police Use Military Tactics to Quash Dissent

As we wait for the grand jury verdict on whether to indict Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson for the killing of Michael Brown, schools in Ferguson are preparing to close, the police are stocked up on riot weapons and white supremacists are pledging to kill. A sand-colored, mine-resistant military vehicle was seen parked in front a local Dairy Queen. Protesters are organized and eschewing violence for clever forms of civil disobedience, but know they will likely face violence: Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has already declared a state of emergency in Ferguson.

Armored trucks in the street and a fear of mayhem are more common abroad, but Ferguson shows they now have a place in the suburbs of America. Police have militarized from to boots to brainstem.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It appears that at both the Federal and State level, the government wants violence in Ferguson, to viciously stomp down with extreme prejudice, and show the world the the US striving to become "number one" when it comes to police brutality, particularly against minorities.

It is very sad to me that the crisis brought on by the killing of Michael Brown cannot become an opportunity for the police to change their institutional culture and reach out to the citizens of this community, which would be the best possible outcome.

Unfortunately, no matter the Grand Jury's decision, I would almost be willing to bet that there will be violence, not only in this town, but in other densely-packed urban areas where joblessness and poverty are rife.

And why?!? Because the good jobs which used to be the bedrock of the middle class in this country have been outsourced/offshored to the cheapest labor pools possible on this planet.

And it hasn't mattered much who is in office, as this development has unfolded over the last 30 years, because those same executives which are doing this are contributing generously to their candidates of choice, who have now become representative of corporations, not at all of We the People.

I sincerely believe that most people, given the opportunity, will work when it is possible; it is just that there are no jobs for them to go to, due to offshoring/outsourcing.

I can never condone violence, as an answer to any societal problem; but I can understand how it comes about, out of intense frustration that absolutely nothing is working properly in your life.

And being unemployed, and barely surviving on public assistance, have to be frustrating in the extreme.

And the longer one is out of a job, the more prejudicial companies are about hiring that person.

US Never Intended to Defeat ISIS

Tony Cartalucci
Activist Post

A torrent of “foiled” terror plots have recently dominated headlines across the Western World. In Rochester New York, the FBI netted a man they claimed was plotting a shooting spree targeting US service members. In Australia, over 800 security agents swooped in on 15 ISIS suspects whom the Australian government claimed were plotting to randomly behead a member of the public. In the UK, 4 suspects allegedly linked to ISIS were arrested before carrying out a plot Scotland Yards claims was aimed at the Queen of England herself.

According to Western security agencies, in addition to ISIS’ regional campaign of brutality stretching from Lebanon, across Syria, and into Iraq, it is also working ceaselessly to carry out attacks against targets within the US, across Europe, and even in the Pacific...

President Obama has committed a mind-boggling $3 billion to a new United Nations Green Climate Fund run by officials from Communist nations, a country that appears on the State Department’s list of terrorism-sponsors and an Arab oil-industry chief.

Banking culture breeds dishonesty, scientific study finds

A banking culture that implicitly puts financial gain above all else fuels greed and dishonesty and makes bankers more likely to cheat, according to the findings of a scientific study.

Researchers in Switzerland studied bank workers and other professionals in experiments in which they won more money if they cheated, and found that bankers were more dishonest when they were made particularly aware of their professional role.

When bank employees were primed to think less about their profession and more about normal life, however, they were less inclined to dishonesty.

"Many scandals..have plagued the financial industry in the last decade," Ernst Fehr, a researcher at the University of Zurich who co-led the study, told reporters in a telephone briefing. "These scandals raise the question whether the business culture in the banking industry is favouring, or at least tolerating, fraudulent or unethical behaviours."??

Webmaster's Commentary:

And this, folks, is the reason the next time there is a major bank failure, or scandal in the US, those bankers responsible should be tried, convicted, and incarcerated in the polar opposite of a "Club Fed".

In this country, crime only seems to pay if one is already wealthy, like for a Bernie Madoff, who ripped off his clients to the tune of anywhere from 13 to 21 billion dollars.

Darren Wilson's supporters attack President Obama for 'failing to support officer's family' - and claim shooting deaths have been turned into 'race war'

The seven-minute clip says that the President should have got in touch with Darren Wilson’s relatives to give them his support in the wake of the August 9 killing in Ferguson, a suburb of St Louis.

The video says that Wilson’s life was ‘turned upside down’ and that Mr Obama aligned himself with Michael Brown, the 18-year-old who was killed.

Gruesome: Citigroup managing director Shawn D. Miller was found with his throat slit in his Manhattan apartment on Tuesday

The body of Shawn D. Miller was discovered in the bathtub of his condo in Manhattan's Financial District and police initially believed a third-party was responsible after finding no weapon.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Why do I not have a lot of confidence in this conclusion? Maybe because slashing ones own throat is exceedingly rare and difficult to accomplish since the carotid arteries are protected by the windpipe! The depth of cut needed to sever those arteries is far deeper than that needed for the wrists.

Russia invades Ukraine. Again. And again. And yet again … using Saddam’s WMD

Thirty miles inside Ukraine territory and not a single satellite photo, not a camera anywhere around, not even a one-minute video to show for it. “Ms. Psaki apparently [sic] was referring to videos of captured Russian soldiers, distributed by the Ukrainian government.” The Times apparently forgot to inform its readers where they could see these videos.

“The Russian aim, one Western official said, may possibly be to seize an outlet to the sea in the event that Russia tries to establish a separatist enclave in eastern Ukraine.”

This of course hasn’t taken place. So what happened to all these Russian soldiers 30 miles inside Ukraine? What happened to all the armored vehicles, weapons, and equipment?

How the Israel lobby protected Ukrainian Neo-Nazis

An amendment to the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) that would have forbidden US assistance, training and weapons to neo-Nazis and other extremists in Ukraine was kept out of the final bill by the Republican-led House Rules Committee. Introduced by Democratic Representative John Conyers, the amendment was intended to help tamp down on violent confrontations between Ukrainian forces and Russian separatists. (Full text of the amendment embedded at the end of this article).

Police in Ferguson Briefly Clash with Protesters

Police in Ferguson, Missouri clashed briefly with protesters outside their headquarters Wednesday night.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Someone is really pushing for riots. Al Sharpton was just on FOX News saying there will be protests regardless of what the Grand Jury decides! This is all staged.

Ferguson: A Highly Organized, Scripted Agenda to Overshadow the Executive Amnesty Announcement?

The Michael Brown/Darren Wilson case in Ferguson, Missouri has blown up. It has been engineered to do so. See the article below on just how highly organized, scripted and surely funded this thing has become. A state of emergency has preemptively been declared for 30 days in Missouri before the grand jury’s decision has even been announced. “Planned responses” (not protests) have been organized for 83 cities across the nation and Canada. They are even holding informational meetings and “direct action trainings” in the lead up to the decision. The cops are stocking up on riot gear and rubber bullets. Residents are emptying gun stores.

Ask yourself. Why is this particular case in Ferguson the one that our government and mainstream media have thrown all of their time and resources into? Why has it blown up so fast?

Anti-Zionism Continues to Rise

Rivlin, who is the president of the Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Israel, seems to have noticed this backlash in Europe. The Jerusalem Post cited him pronouncing a devastating blow on Israel. Rivlin said,

“The time has come to admit that Israel is a sick society, with an illness that demands treatment.”[3]

Rivlin said that the regime has “forgotten how to be decent human beings.”[4]

That certainly is a bad rap for the Zionist regime—and it is just the beginning. Last month, the Israeli journalist Gideon Levy of Haaretz called Jerusalem “the capital of apartheid.”[5]

Jerry (Ben & Jerry’s) lives in a fake world

Consider the November 6th Democracy Now! interview with Jerry Greenfield (of Ben and Jerry’s). When asked, “And, Jerry Greenfield, is Ben & Jerry’s opposed to GMOs, per se?,” Jerry answered:

“No, Ben & Jerry’s doesn’t really take a position on that. We always say we’re not scientists. You know, there really haven’t been independent studies. But our issue is simply about transparency, having a consumer have the right to know.”

Really, Jerry? There haven’t been independent studies? You don’t take a position? You know nothing about gene drift and Roundup? How convenient. How pleasant and liberating it is not to be a scientist.
