THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

"Our public credit is good, but the abundance of paper has produced a spirit of gambling in the funds, which has laid up our ships at the wharves as too slow instruments of profit, and has even disarmed the hand of the tailor of his needle and thimble. They say the evil will cure itself. I wish it may; but I have rarely seen a gamester cured, even by the disasters of his vocation." –Thomas Jefferson to Gouverneur Morris, 1791. ME 8:241

Lava from Hawaii volcano enters ocean, creates toxic cloud

White plumes of acid and extremely fine shards of glass billowed into the sky over Hawaii as molten rock from Kilauea volcano poured into the ocean, creating yet another hazard from an eruption that began more than two weeks ago.

Authorities on Sunday warned the public to stay away from the toxic steam cloud, which is formed by a chemical reaction when lava touches seawater.

Further upslope, lava continued to gush out of large cracks in the ground that formed in residential neighborhoods in a rural part of the Big Island. The molten rock formed rivers that bisected forests and farms as it meandered toward the coast.

The rate of sulfur dioxide gas shooting from the ground fissures tripled, leading Hawaii County to repeat warnings about air quality. At the volcano's summit, two explosive eruptions unleashed clouds of ash. Winds carried much of the ash toward the southwest.

False tsunami rumors swirl after Big Island quakes

When a 6.9 earthquake shook the Big Island earlier this month, tsunami fears kicked into high gear and so did the rumor mill.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says it received dozens of phone calls asking if a tsunami was coming.

"We've received phone calls even from the mainland asking about a tsunami hazard from Hawaii," Oceanographer Nathan Becker said.

There was no tsunami threat.

There are plenty of dangerous things happening on the Big Island these days, but so far, a tsunami has not been one of them.

Becker reminds the public to always double check their source of information.

May 22 10:28

Explosive eruptions continue to produce plumes of ash at Kilauea's summit crater

Explosions continue at the summit of Kilauea, prompting authorities to warn area residents about the threat of ashfall.

The latest eruption at Halemaumau Crater happened around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday, creating an ash plume that was about 8,000 feet above sea level. They also warned that the wind may carry the plume to the southwest.

Hours earlier, around 8 p.m. Monday, another "very small" explosion occurred. But earlier in the day, about 6 p.m., a more sizable explosion rocked the summit.

And well before dawn, about 12:55 a.m., a large eruption sent an ash plume 7,000 feet above sea level.

FORMER OBAMA CIA DIRECTOR JOHN BRENNAN FREAKS OUT OVER POTUS TRUMP’S DEMAND DOJ INVESTIGATE ILLEGAL OBAMA-ERA POLITICAL SPYING

WEEKS EARLIER D.C. WHISPERS SHARED WITH READERS INFORMATION THAT INDICATED JOHN BRENNAN’S NAME WAS SOON TO BE FRONT AND CENTER IN THE DEEP STATE’S MANUFACTURED TRUMP INVESTIGATION FIASCO.
THAT TIME HAS ARRIVED IN THE FORM OF A FULL-ON FREAKOUT BY THE FORMER CIA DIRECTOR WHO WENT SO FAR AS TO THREATEN HOUSE SPEAKER PAUL RYAN AND SENATE MAJORITY LEADER MITCH MCCONNELL IF THEY DON’T DO SOMETHING TO STOP PRESIDENT TRUMP.
It is a bizarre public post with clear threatening implications on the D.C. Establishment that has a man who likely holds many dark secrets on many powerful figures that if they don’t protect him from President Trump there will be hell to pay.

It also goes beyond Brennan. His public desperation to get the Trump administration to back off from investigating 2016 Election wrongdoing by the Deep State is likely due to immense pressure from the Obama Machine to protect the former president at all cost.

Webmaster's Commentary:

It's too late to stop this train.

President Obama will ultimately be proven, and outed, as one of the most quietly corrupt Presidents ever sitting in that Oval Office, and there is utterly nothing Brennan can do at this point, except to flee to a country which has no extradition arrangement with the US.

I would suggest that some of his aides start a very descreet search in this area; because trust me, he just may well need this information, and quickly.

Beyond honey bees: Wild bees are also key pollinators, and some species are disappearing

By Kelsey K. Graham, Michigan State University

Declines in bee populations around the world have been widely reported over the past several decades. Much attention has focused on honey bees, which commercial beekeepers transport all over the United States to pollinate crops.

However, while honey bees are a vital part of our agricultural system, they are generally considered the chickens of the bee world – domesticated and highly managed for specific agricultural use. They are not native to North America and often can’t be used as a surrogate for understanding what is happening with native wild bees – the focus of my research...

"IT'S RIDICULOUS" - PARENTS FURIOUS AS AUSTRALIA SEEKS TO BAN USE OF "BOY" OR "GIRL" IN BOOKS

"For goodness sake, this is social engineering gone crazy...

Leave kids alone to be kids. Stop trying to destroy kids’ childhoods..."

That is an example of the furious reaction from parents in Victoria, Australia where the local city council has announced plans to audit children’s books and toys with a plan to ban them from kindergartens, schools and libraries if they don’t meet strict gender guidelines.

The Herald Sun reports that the local government's justice warriors were inspired by research from the Australian National University that showed children were influenced by gender stereotyping, and urged a ban on the terms 'boy' and 'girl'.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is utter hogwash, but I understand why Australia is going this way, and for the followng reason:

Teen hormoes being altered by gender-bending chemicals
But this isn't just happening in the UK; it is happening all over the planet.

The Australian government can't fix this, so it is attempting to normalize what they cannot repair in the state of their drinking water.

The next step coming, of course, will be a "Farenheit 451" moment for the Australian people, when banned books will be physically destroyed.

SYRIAN WAR REPORT – MAY 22, 2018: DAMASCUS IS SECURED, DARAA IS NEXT

Late on May 21, Russian air defense systems, allegedly a Pantsir-S short to medium range system, launched at least four missiles at “unidentified” targets over the Khmeimim air base in Syria, according to local sources.

Later, the Russian military revealed that one unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) had been shot down. No damage or casualties occurred as a result of the incident.

A similar incident took place on April 24 when Russian forces shot down at least two UAVs armed with projectiles.

The repeated UAV attacks on Russian facilities in Syria are another sign of the changing situation in the country. After a de-facto military defeat of militants in central Syria, they have shifted their activity to sabotage operations, which may allow them to get more public attention from the media and support from their foreign sponsors.

Syrian experts also believe that the possibility of terrorist attacks in the liberated areas is growing.

The Holocaust Did Not Legitimize Zionism

The Holocaust did not legitimize Zionism
If international public opinion does not understand that Jews deserved Jerusalem and Tel Aviv in 1933 no less than in 1948, it will infer that Zionism owes its legitimacy to Hitler.

Western support for Israel and the Jewish People based on shame and guilt due to the Holocaust is problematic. It implies that Jews in Israel are owed solidarity due to the wrongs of the past, rather than to their being right in the present.

Living in Berlin, I realize that many Europeans and particularly Germans support Israel more out of collective guilt and shame than genuine conviction. This is dangerous. As soon as these painful feelings ebb - as they inevitably are bound to - so will their support for Israel and Jews. Furthermore this guilt and shame can easily morph into resentment and rage.

Watchdog report to fault FBI for Clinton probe delay

Top FBI officials — including former director James Comey — will be criticized in an upcoming report from the Justice Department’s internal watchdog for failing to quickly review a trove of Hillary Clinton’s e-mails discovered in the last months of the 2016 election, a report on Monday said.

The DOJ inspector general will say that leading FBI officials knew about the e-mails on former Rep. Anthony Weiner’s laptop in September 2016 but didn’t get a warrant to review them until the next month, The Associated Press reported.

Comey will be faulted in the report for not moving fast enough to examine the e-mails and for taking too long to get the warrant, the AP said.

Twenty-seven drug regulatory agency warnings cite psychiatric drug side effects of mania, psychosis, violence and homicidal ideation; 1,531 cases of psychiatric drug induced homicide/homicidal ideation have been reported to the US FDA; 65 high profile cases of mass shootings/murder have been committed by individuals under the influence of these drugs, yet there has never been a federal investigation into the link between seemingly senseless acts of violence and the use of mind-altering psychotropic drugs.

VERIZON BEGINS 'TESTING' DSL USAGE CAPS IT REFUSES TO CALL USAGE CAPS

For years now broadband providers have used a lack of competition to impose all manner of obnoxious additional fees on the backs of broadband consumers. That includes arbitrary and obnoxious usage caps and overage charges, which not only raise rates on captive customers, but quite intentionally make using streaming video competitors more expensive and cumbersome. Once caps are in place, large ISPs often exempt their own content from usage caps while still penalizing streaming competitors (aka zero rating).

ISPs used to claim that such limits were necessary to manage network congestion, but as that argument was increasingly debunked (caps don't actually help manage congestion) they've shifted their justifications to more flimsy alternatives. These days, ISPs usually offer no justification at all, or issue vague declarations that they're simply trying to help users "better understand their consumption habits."

Webmaster's Commentary:

With these kinds of usage fees being places on internet services, consumers need to fight back, but that is difficult when a company has a monopoly in specific areas, and there are no other services from which to chose.

Nicolas Maduro Reelected President of Venezuela

Nicolas Maduro won another six-year term overwhelmingly by a two-thirds majority – far greater than polls predicted, turnout disappointing at less than 50%.

His main adversary, Chavista turncoat Henri Falcon, fared much poorer than predicted with around 21% of the vote.

Businessman/evangelical pastor linked to the Panama Papers tax haven scandal got only about 11% support.

Addressing a late Sunday night crowd of supporters, Maduro hailed his triumph as a victory over “imperialism,” saying:

“How much have they underestimated our revolutionary people, and how much have they underestimated me. And here we are victorious,” adding:

“It has been a heroic, beautiful, popular victory forged in the struggle. I’m the president of all of the Venezuelans. I call for a dialogue process. Permanent dialogue is what Venezuela needs. The revolution is here to stay!”

AN ISRAEL-IRAN WAR IS UNLIKELY TO HAPPEN ANY TIME SOON

Writing in the Asia Times earlier this month, David P. Goldman lamented that an Israel-Iran war is unlikely to take place any time soon. His observation appears surprising considering the mainstream media has been hyping up the idea of such a war over the past few months.

Nevertheless, he is correct. Short of something catastrophic that completely upsets the current status quo, there are many signs that Israel and Iran are not headed for a direct confrontation in the immediate future. Though the mainstream media dishonestly advertises such a war, the truth is that Israel’s next war will not take place in Iran — or even Syria for that matter. It is far more likely to take place in Lebanon.

As Goldman explained:

Webmaster's Commentary:

First, why in the name of heaven, is this man "lamenting" that it doesn't look like there will be war between Israel and Iran in the near term, but a war against Hezbullah in Lebanon is close to a dead moral certainty?!?

For intelligent people, any war is to be avoided if there is any other way to resolve geopolitical differences.

Apparently, when it comes to David Goldman's thinking, all wars bringing Israel closer to acheiving the "Erez Israel" model, should be pursued, and immediately.

The summit between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un “may or may not happen” as scheduled, depending on Kim’s actions in the coming days, Trump said in a meeting with the South Korean president.

Trump and Moon met at the White House on Tuesday to discuss the summit, scheduled for June 12 in Singapore. Both remained optimistic about the meeting, though Trump said he was “not happy” about the recent changes in North Korean attitude.

The tone from Pyongyang changed after Kim’s second meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump told reporters prior to the meeting, according to Reuters. He called Xi a “world class poker player” who he would like to think is committed to peace in the Korean peninsula.

Vax-Unvax Study of Mice Implicates Hepatitis B Vaccine – Media Silent

In 1998, Dr. Andrew Wakefield ended up crucified for a paper that only noted what some parents had reported–namely, that their children regressed into autism after the MMR vaccine. Dr. Yao’s second paper, on the other hand, conducted a thorough study of the Hepatitis B vaccine’s impact on the brains of mice, and did so versus a control group of mice who received a saline placebo. This is a “gold standard” animal study that you would typically do BEFORE a drug was introduced to the human population. In a world where vaccines were treated like other prescription drugs, Dr. Yao’s study would have sent up a giant red flag about the neurotoxicity of the Hepatitis B vaccine. Of course, that didn’t happen, and this is the first time you’ve probably ever heard of this study:

Sweden distributes 'be prepared for war' leaflet to all 4.8m homes

The Swedish government has begun sending all 4.8m of the country’s households a public information leaflet telling the population, for the first time in more than half a century, what to do in the event of a war.

Om krisen eller kriget kommer (If crisis or war comes) explains how people can secure basic needs such as food, water and heat, what warning signals mean, where to find bomb shelters and how to contribute to Sweden’s “total defence”.

The 20-page pamphlet, illustrated with pictures of sirens, warplanes and families fleeing their homes, also prepares the population for dangers such as cyber and terror attacks and climate change, and includes a page on identifying fake news.

The publication comes as the debate on security – and the possibility of joining Nato – has intensified in Sweden in the wake of Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and recent incursions into Swedish airspace and territorial waters by Russian planes and submarines.

Webmaster's Commentary:

The question I need to ask here is, why now?!?

You have to love the irony of this story, written by John Henley, as the Swedish officials talk about how to spot fake news, then in a couple of paragraphs down, Henley makes the false claim that Russia "annexed" Crimea, which never happened.

In 2014, after the coup threw the duly elected Ukrainian President Yanukovich under the proverbial bus, and replaced him with Poroshenko, Crimean officials realized that there was no true rule of law in Ukraine at that point.

What they did was a two-step referendum, first asking their people if they wanted to stay with Ukraine of leave it (the people voted overwhelmingly to leave, due to Ukraine's massive corruption), and secondly, petition the Russian Federation to join it, and Russia accepted that petition. These are the facts on the ground which cannot be erased, period, end of discussion.

And John, for having included that codswallop "bit" about Russia having annexed Crimea, because that is the American And European narrative, and you have been given your "marching orders" not to stray from it, even though you know it never happened, shame on you, sir.

Israel is the first country to have used the U.S.-made F-35 stealth fighter in combat, the Israeli air force chief said on Tuesday in remarks carried by the military's official Twitter account.

Local media further quoted Major-General Amikam Norkin as saying in a speech to the chiefs of 20 foreign air forces convening in Israel: "We are flying the F-35 all over the Middle East and have already attacked twice on two different fronts".

Norkin also displayed a photograph of an Israeli F-35 overflying Beirut, local media said.

DUMA PASSES BILL ON COUNTER-SANCTIONS, GIVES RUSSIAN GOVT POWER TO IMPOSE RESTRICTIONS

The Russian State Duma has passed a bill aimed at defending "economic interests and security" in response to the latest sanctions introduced by the United States and its allies.
The motion was drafted by State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin and the heads of all four parliamentary caucuses in mid-April, days after the US Treasury Department released a list of 24 Russian citizens and 14 Russian corporations that fall under new sanctions imposed over Russia’s foreign policy.

“The main objective of this federal law is to defend the economic interests and security of the Russian Federation, its territorial integrity and the rights and freedoms of its citizens, from unfriendly actions of the USA and other foreign states that impose political or economic sanctions against the Russian Federation, its citizens and companies or any other activities aimed at destabilizing Russia’s politics or economy,” reads the freshly approved bill.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And so, the escalation continues, essentially due to the US government punishing Russia for things it has not done, like allegedly annexing Crimea, which never actually happened.

I hate the way trade wars can escalate into shooting wars, which the Presidents of both countries claim that they do not want, but right now, it looks like a question of when, rather than if, we are looking at a military confrontation between the two.

I cannot tell you if we are looking at that confrontation in Syria; Iran; Dombass/Ukraine, or elsewhere; but I can feel it coming, and with a certain, particular dark aura of ...inevitability.

WATCH: BORDER PATROL AGENT IN MONTANA DETAINS TWO US CITIZENS BECAUSE THEY SPOKE SPANISH

Last week, near the US border with Canada, an incident took place at a convenience store gas station in the small town of Havre, Montana that has garnered national attention, thanks to a video posted to social media.

Ana Suda and Mimi Hernandez ran what should have been a quick late night errand to buy milk and eggs, as many Americans have. After getting in line, the errand took a turn for the worse. The American Civil Liberties Union is now looking into the incident that transpired.

Suda and Hernandez, who are both fluent Spanish speakers as well as U.S. citizens, unsurprisingly and legally conversed with each other in Spanish while waiting in line. Their exchange of words caught the ears of a nearby uniformed Border Patrol agent who interrupted and eventually detained the women.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Having a second language in this country is always a blessing, and keeps the brain sharp.

But the agent should apologise to these women; having a 2nd language should never be construed as a crime, particularly when they have shown their ID, which has been shown to be legitimate.

DIGITAL TIME-TRACKING SYSTEMS ARE DRAINING WORKER PAY

The days of the soul-sucking manual punch clock are over. Digital systems now use things like facial recognition to monitor when a worker arrives and has finished for the day. Combined with certain legal ambiguities, the software that’s replaced the 19th century technology is helping some employers chisel away at workers’ hourly pay.

This so-called wage theft is a problem for many healthcare workers, drivers, and food-service and factory employees, according to a study by Elizabeth Tippett, associate professor at the University of Oregon School of Law, published in the American Business Law Journal. An earlier report from the Economic Policy Institute found that wage theft in the U.S. may account for more than $15 billion each year.

How digital wage theft works

Tippett’s study of 330 cases litigated in state and federal courts found three main types of digital wage theft:

Supreme Court Rules That Employers Can Make Signing Away Your Right To Sue Them In A Class Action Suits A Condition Of Employment

***
This means that in cases of wage-theft, unsafe working conditions and systematic harassment, workers would not be able to band together to sue gigantic corporations whose net worth dwarfs their own a millionfold or more, and would have to individually pay lawyers to argue each of their cases, one at a time.

US Hostility Good Opportunity For Europe, Iran To Abandon USD

The re-imposition of US sanctions on Iran and Washington’s threat to punish European companies for doing business there provides a good opportunity for ditching the dollar, according to RT’s Keiser Report host, Max Keiser

The US uses the dollar as a weapon to promote US dollar hegemony and the US Empire. The world now sees clearly that the US dollar is a Ponzi scheme in the hands of the Central Bank, backed by the extraordinarily violent Pentagon whose multi-trillion- dollar budget can only be justified via wars of convenience, torture, and election meddling around the world,” Keiser wrote.

Unfortunately, European corporations are defying the EU and EC by threatening to abide by the preposterous US sanctions and financially censor Iran in ways that will boost the fortunes of these CEOs, but endanger millions of Europeans and people around the world,” he added.

Investigators Admit Victims in Texas Shooting Could’ve Been Killed by Police Fire

But it’s unclear whether all the victims were shot by the suspect, or whether some were shot by deputies during the crossfire. Trochesset said authorities are waiting for the medical examiner’s autopsies to make that determination.

A “decent amount of cameras in the school” will help investigators piece together a timeline, Trochesset said.

The idea that police may have killed some of the victims is chilling.

School shootings have decreased since the 90’s but Democrats would like you to believe the opposite

In an early 2018 piece, Mises Wire editor Ryan McMaken pointedly articulates the fact that official U.S. government documents indicate a decline nationally in homicides and school shooting since the 90’s which means that schools are actually far safer today than they were over two decades ago.
