Military members may not have enough time to complete and mail in their absentee ballots for Tuesday’s election, thanks to slow mail delivery, lack of information sharing among election officials, and procedural errors.

The lying woman of Washington

The death of nearly a million Iraqis is more than enough to judge the American invasion and occupation of Iraq as a criminal act of immense proportions, especially in light of the fact that the invasion was based on lies concocted by evil-minded people like Bush, Rice and Powell. The blood of hundreds of thousands of victims in Iraq, Afghanistan, Gaza, Somalia and other places is squarely on their evil hands.

Magnetic Portals Connect Sun and Earth

During the time it takes you to read this article, something will happen high overhead that until recently many scientists didn't believe in. A magnetic portal will open, linking Earth to the sun 93 million miles away. Tons of high-energy particles may flow through the opening before it closes again, around the time you reach the end of the page.

"It's called a flux transfer event or 'FTE,'" says space physicist David Sibeck of the Goddard Space Flight Center. "Ten years ago I was pretty sure they didn't exist, but now the evidence is incontrovertible."

Internet Now Major Source of Campaign News

Many more Americans are turning to the internet for campaign news this year as the web becomes a key source of election news. Holocaust is over, leading Israeli tells Likud

Avraham Burg, whose new book The Holocaust Is Over: We Must Rise From Its Ashes is out in Britain this weekend, says in an interview with The Independent Magazine that the Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is “no doubt a problem”. Mr Burg adds: “He is an issue in the Western world and for Israel’s sense of confidence in particular.” But he continues: “What is [Mr Netanyahu’s] soundbite? ‘It is [19]38 all over again. Do me a favour. Did we have such a powerful state in ’38? Did we have this onmipotent army in ’38? Did we have the most important superpowers siding with us in ’38?

Sources in Rutshuru said more than 150,000 people from the town and the camps had fled north into the jungle.

The End of Prosperity

Something critically needed for a "post-bubble, crisis-torn US economy." To make the Fed "tougher in its neglected regulatory oversight capacity." To counter "bubble denialists (like) Alan Greenspan." To mandate Fed policy "err on the side of caution." To expose the "fatal mistake" in trusting "ideology" over "objective metrics. Like all crises, this one is a wake-up call. The Fed made policy blunders of historic proportions that must be avoided in the future."

Webmaster's Commentary:

At one of the local "big box" discount stores on Oahu, you used to see an array of beautifully trimmed lamb chops and high-end steaks.

Millions of Afghans Face Starvation

With a combination of a summer drought, poor irrigation and rising global food prices, a famine is unveiling in Afghanistan with third of Afghans are suffering chronic food insecurity, a British think-tank warned on Friday, October 31.

"While the eyes of the world have focused on violence which is increasingly terrorist in character, an estimated 8.4 million Afghans, perhaps a third of the nation, are now suffering from 'chronic and transitory food insecurity'," Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) analyst Paul Smyth said in a press briefing on its website.

Webmaster's Commentary:

Welcome to yet more of the real "Bush Legacy" in Afghanistan: one third of its population may face famine conditions this year.

And anyone who believes that the US and NATO will allow airdrops of food to the worst-hit areas hasn't taken a good, hard look at the outcomes of their occupation of this country.

Evidence of sunspot involvement in climate change compelling

Over the last few years, the evidence that sunspots on our sun are directly related to climate change on earth has been steadily increasing.

I explained the exact proposed mechanism in some detail previously. Great work in this field is being carried out by Dr Henrik Svensmark and coworkers in Denmark and elsewhere.

Briefly, the mechanism is that cosmic rays impact on the earth from deep space. These cosmic rays penetrate our atmosphere and lead to the formation of cloud cover. The cosmic rays nucleate sites in the atmosphere, from which clouds form from the natural water vapour.

The Torturer's Tale

Lagouranis saw people crippled through prolonged use of the stress positions he forced them to adopt, and driven to the verge of insanity through weeks of sleep deprivation and psychological disorientation. But maybe it was worth it if it produced valuable intelligence in the fight against the insurgency? No, he says. As a method of getting intelligence it was useless. And besides, the aim of interrogations shifted subtly. "A lot of what we ended up doing was trying to gather confessions, not intelligence."

Webmaster's Commentary:

We have known that torture produces confessions, and not the truth, from the times of the Inquisition.

What US interrogators had, under these circumstances, was the permission to maim, cripple, and kill, "while following orders", with the absolute assurance that there would be little or no consequences for one's actions.

The problem, now is, because the US has de-facto withdrawn from any of the human rights treaties to which it has ever been a signatory, through the application of torture in the alleged "war on terror", this gives other countries the right to do precisely the same thing to US prisoners.

Let that one sink in for a moment.

In its final months, the Bush administration is pressing ahead with a new generation of spy technology designed to strengthen the U.S. military’s ability to detect and eliminate suspected insurgents in Iraq and elsewhere based on computer analyses of their movements and activities.

The marriage of advanced technology and military repression has raised concerns among some human rights advocates that these techniques could open the door to an Orwellian future in which authoritarian regimes repress popular resistance.

UK opposes US incursions into Pakistan: Straw

British Secretary of State for Justice Jack Straw on Friday opposed repeated United States incursions into Pakistan’s territory, and urged Washington to respect the sovereignty and integrity of its vital allies.

Webmaster's Commentary:

This is all posturing, as the UK will do absolutely nothing to stop these aerial bombings.

One has to wonder what US policy makers are ingesting which makes them believe that bombing the heck out of a country which is supposed to be our "great ally in the war on terror" is actually going to accomplish.

Of course, there are two things these bombings are guaranteed to accomplish.

The first is killing a lot of very innocent civilians (women, kids, babies, the elderly, and the medically infirm, who just happened to be at the absolutely wrong place at the absolutely worst possible time).

The second is to radicalize those left standing even further away from the Zardari government and the Pakistani Parliament.

You also have to wonder if continued destabilization is the plan here, in order to pave the way for yet another tin-pot dictator (in the style of a Musharraf) who will be infinitely more geopolitically pliable (read: open to all the taxpayer dollars they'll get, without having to account for it) to the US's agenda in the region.
