Are the Oscars Rigged?

For example, after Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Co., received an Oscar nomination for Inglorious Bastards he said, “We’ll sell another million or two million DVD units” because of the nominations.

That’s real money. Surely enough money to offer some legal payola (trips, dinners, iPhones, etc.) to the Academy members. There was even a payola scandal over Scent of a Woman. (I am sure there are more, but this one was at my finger tips.)

Webmaster's Commentary:

I've been on the receiving end of the behind-the-scenes machinations of the Oscars. Stargate (the movie) was nominated for the Oscar for Visual Effects, but was dropped by the "Blue Ribbon Committee" because Carolco was in the throes of an IRS-induced financial collapse and unable to cash in on the nomination and possible win.

And Al Gore's Oscar for best (you will pardon the expression) documentary exposes the highly politicized nature of the awards.

This year, the bias towards pro-war ("Hurt Locker") and pro-Israel ("Inglorious Basterds") films was obvious and heavy-handed. Avatar, clearly a masterpiece and to judge by the box-office receipts, the favorite film of the ticket-buying public, has garnered relatively few awards this season, possibly due to the obvious anti-war message of the film.

If anyone from Jim Cameron's office is reading this; Jim, Avatar is the best picture this year. The Academy just didn't realize it.

A PEEK AT THE REAL AJAMI…..

He added that the film, which is co-directed by Copti and Israeli director Yaron Shani, features a mixed cast.

“There’s a Palestinian director, an Israeli director, Palestinian actors and Israeli actors. The film technically represents Israel, but I don’t represent Israel. I cannot represent a country that does not represent me,” he said, according to Army Radio.

Why Quietly Pro-War 'Hurt Locker' Has the Oscar Edge

Webmaster's Commentary:

As I speculated when I reviewed Avatar, the fact that it has a strong anti-war statement did result in being snubbed at the Oscars, although it did win (and certainly deserved) the Oscar for best visual effects.

Ajami co-director ahead of the Oscars: I don't represent Israel

Ajami co-director Scandar Copti on Sunday said that he does not represent Israel, hours before his film competes for the best foreign film Oscar at the Academy Awards, Army Radio reported.

"I am not Israel's national team and do not represent her," Copti reportedly said. "It is an extremely technical thing and that's how it works at the Oscars - it says 'Israel' because that's where the money comes from."

Today’s pop music is filled with symbols and messages aimed to shape and mold today’s youth. Apart from the occult symbolism discussed in other articles, other parts of the elite’s agenda are communicated through music videos. Two of those parts are transhumanism and the introduction of a police state. We’ll look at the way those agendas are part of the acts of Rihanna, Beyonce, Daddy Yankee and the Black Eyed Peas.

VIVID TO PRODUCE FILM BASED ON THE LIFE OF ANNE FRANK

Hirsch also announced that label’s first film will be based on the life of Holocaust refugee Anne Frank, though the age of the character will be altered in order to comply with Unite States law.

“The story of Anne Frank is one that I find particularly compelling,” continued Hirsch. “The script we have going is a really interesting and compelling blend of a young girls desire to survive in the midst of the horror of the Holocaust, and the innermost sexual desires of a young woman. We also plan to film an alt version of the film which will of course involve Nazi’s and lots of leather.”

‘Lost’ meant business for many local Hawaii companies and employees

Jean Higgins knew the television series she produces was having an impact on Hawaii’s economy when she pulled up to the set on the first day of shooting the fourth season of “Lost” and counted 10 shiny new pickup trucks on the lot.

The ABC castaway drama will finish filming its sixth and final season this spring. And when it leaves, will take with it the millions of dollars the production has steadily pumped into the state economy since 2004.

Two “Iraq war” movies compete for awards

Mind control and understanding Shutter Island

To understand Martin Scorsese's well-crafted psychological thriller Shutter Island, viewers should do an internet search on the following three terms: MK-Ultra, Manchurian candidates, and Operation Paperclip. For the extended value-added search, throw in the combination of "CIA" and "LSD."

Shutter Island is being released at a very propitious time. Just look at Saturday's (Feb. 21) front page of the New York Times. Above the fold we have two related stories, the first, under the inaccurate headline "A new report, a new verdict, in terror fight." A more accurate title would read "U.S. government and Obama administration reaffirm Bush administration commitment to torture."

Webmaster's Commentary:

Something tells me this guy did not stay until the very end of the movie. I won't explain why for those of you planning to see the film, but in all honesty, I would not bother.

Following on my online review of Avatar a local paper asked me to try being a movie reviewer for them and I decided to try it just once. The movie I was sent to see was Shutter Island.

I will start with the good stuff.

This is a fine ensemble cast all turning in fine performances, especially Leonardo DiCaprio in what is his most complex character to date.

As for the phrase "well crafted", I cannot agree. The editing was disjointed, with the point of view jumping around for no clear reason. I kept wondering if Scorsese was trying to make a point but in the end I get the sense that Scorsese didn't have a clear vision of what he wanted, simply overshot from every angle and hoped the editor could make sense out of it. There were major continuity errors across cuts obvious enough to call attention to themselves and hence a major distraction from the story. In a few cases, the audience was left wondering if we had suddenly jumped to a new scene entirely.

The editing problems were complicated by the Cinematographer, who lit every shot without worrying about consistency, such that the lighting on the characters changed from cut to cut, again calling attention to itself and distracting from the story.

The story (no spoilers) is sadly rather tired and predictable, and not to be saved by the pedantic sound track.

This is a film that proves once and for all that the movie industry does pay people to go onto movie blogs like rottentomatoes.com and post glowing reviews for really bad films. This one will be a fast burn and gone in a heartbeat, and the only way it will get to the Oscars is because it includes the inevitable, obligatory (and pointless) reference to the Holocaust.

Hey Joe Stack.. (Lyrics)

Hey Joe Stack.. Why did this have to happen?
You worked for a bunch of government corporate types that would rival General Patton.

Hey Joe Stack.. It seems your client list was very into 911.
So please don't pretend that you are a good guy sent to us from heaven.

Didn't you know they would tighten the fear in our guts?.. Was it really you who crashed the plane pretending to be driven nutz?

From each according to his ability to each according to his need.
From each according to his gullibility to each according to his greed.

Hey Joe Stack have they found any of your DNA?
I would never trust a lab with that in the U.S.A.

Why The Oscars Are A Con – John Pilger

Why are so many films so bad? This year’s Oscar nominations are a parade of propaganda, stereotypes and downright dishonesty. The dominant theme is as old as Hollywood: America’s divine right to invade other societies, steal their history and occupy our memory. When will directors and writers behave like artists and not pimps for a world view devoted to control and destruction?

Feb 10 09:08

Vfx artist plight at issue

Stranahan wrote, "The writers, composers and actors all will receive well-deserved residual payments for decades to come. But the visual effects artists don't receive royalties and residuals. And as one visual effects artist told me, 'even in the credits, we're listed after craft services.'"

Daily Variety has covered the problems of vfx artists occasionally over the years, and with the production downturn and bad economy, matters are only getting worse.

With no union or guild, vfx artists often work punishing hours, without health or retirement benefits. Even when their weekly pay seems generous, they work so many hours their rate can be shockingly low.

Webmaster's Commentary:

I can speak personally to this issue.

In the early days of blues music, blues musicians would be hired to come play at a recording studio. The fee for the recording session was all the money they ever got, while the record companies would churn out endless profits with endless copies of the recordings, some of which are considered classic and historically important today.

Years ago, when I worked at Robert Abel & Associates, we did some cutting edge and now historically important work

Much of that work was repackaged into a series of videos called "The Mind's Eye" and sold in video stores. As you can see from this article at Wikipedia, the original artists at Abel's (and other studios that produced the actual imagery) were not given any credit at all, while the music composers are named.

In the case of films like "Avatar", the CGI work is the dominant element seen on screen, yet the artists creating those visual wonders do not get the residuals that even the actors standing around the back of the set do!

Two years ago, you were invited by Israeli President Shimon Peres to attend a conference in Israel marking Israel‘s contributions to medicine, science, and conservation; we urged you then, as a prominent activist on issues of global inequality and a campaigner for basic human rights, to say no to Israel, especially since the invitation coincided with celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the founding of the state.[1] You did not go to Israel then; we call on you now not to grant legitimacy to a state that practices the most pernicious form of colonialism and apartheid.

THAT'S a ROBOT? (or, Red Tape Killed Her Nursing Career, But That Isn't All Roxxxy Can Do)

Lifelike Sexy Robot Girlfriend Talks Sports as Well as Having Sex with You

summary by Anne (praiseworthy and tireless) of The Internet Patrol.

The ultimate female robot has just hit the scenes. The Roxxxy robot - (not Roxxy robot or Roxy robot because, you see, "Roxxxy" is triple-X) - is one sexy robot girl. In fact, Roxxxy is a sex robot - which means that as girl robots go she is, well, the ultimate fantasy robot. And, indeed, for some the ultimate fantasy girlfriend. Not only does Roxxxy talk sports, respond to touch, and come with three ... er ... serviceable ports ... but she also sports five distinct personalities, ranging from 'Frigid Farrah' to 'Wild Wendy' (bad robot!) and everything in between - including a 'Mature Martha' and 'S&M Susan' (we kid you not). Want a topless robot? A bottomless robot? Roxxxy can be anything you want her to be!

MEL GIBSON GETS MAD OVER ANTI-SEMITIC QUESTIONS

After starting out pleasantly, the interview turned nasty when Rubin - a Jew - asked the star about the time he reportedly made a series of unpleasant remarks to the Jewish cop who arrested him for drink driving over three years ago.
Rubin asked the actor, "Some people will welcome you back, some people will say you should never come back."
A seemingly offended Gibson sat forward and angrily asked, "Why?", before Rubin answered, "Because of what happened before. The remarks that were attributed to you."
Gibson returned, "The remarks that were attributed to me. I didn't necessarily make those comments," before asking, "I gather you have a dog in this fight? Do you have a dog in this fight? Or are you impartial?"

Webmaster's Commentary:

Normally I would not bother with this story, but I feel I need to make a point.

It seems that Jews can make any public comment they want about Arabs and the media will always give them a free pass. But Mel Gibson makes a comment, in a private moment, and this idiot reporting is suggesting his career should be over?

Here follows some perspective.

"There is a huge gap between us (Jews) and our enemies not just in ability but in morality, culture, sanctity of life, and conscience. They are our neighbors here, but it seems as if at a distance of a few hundred meters away, there are people who do not belong to our continent, to our world, but actually belong to a different galaxy." Israeli president Moshe Katsav. The Jerusalem Post, May 10, 2001

"The Palestinians are like crocodiles, the more you give them meat, they want more".... Ehud Barak, Prime Minister of Israel at the time - August 28, 2000. Reported in the Jerusalem Post August 30, 2000

" [The Palestinians are] beasts walking on two legs." Menahim Begin, speech to the Knesset, quoted in Amnon Kapeliouk, "Begin and the Beasts". New Statesman, 25 June 1982.

"The Palestinians" would be crushed like grasshoppers ... heads smashed against the boulders and walls." " Isreali Prime Minister (at the time) in a speech to Jewish settlers New York Times April 1, 1988

"When we have settled the land, all the Arabs will be able to do about it will be to scurry around like drugged cockroaches in a bottle." Raphael Eitan, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Defence Forces, New York Times, 14 April 1983.

David Ben Gurion (the first Israeli Prime Minister): "If I were an Arab leader, I would never sign an agreement with Israel. It is normal; we have taken their country. It is true God promised it to us, but how could that interest them? Our God is not theirs. There has been Anti - Semitism, the Nazis, Hitler, Auschwitz, but was that their fault ? They see but one thing: we have come and we have stolen their country. Why would they accept that?" Quoted by Nahum Goldmann in Le Paraddoxe Juif (The Jewish Paradox), pp121.

"We have to kill all the Palestinians unless they are resigned to live here as slaves." Chairman Heilbrun of the Committee for the Re-election of General Shlomo Lahat, the mayor of Tel Aviv, October 1983.

"Every time we do something you tell me America will do this and will do that . . . I want to tell you something very clear: Don't worry about American pressure on Israel. We, the Jewish people, control America, and the Americans know it." - Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, October 3, 2001, to Shimon Peres, as reported on Kol Yisrael radio. (Certainly the FBI's cover-up of the Israeli spy ring/phone tap scandal suggests that Mr. Sharon may not have been joking.)

" ... we should prepare to go over to the offensive with the aim of smashing Lebanon, Trans-jordan and Syria... The weak point in the Arab coalition is Lebanon [for] the Moslem regime is artificial and easy to undermine. A Christian state should be established... When we smash the [Arab] Legions strength and bomb Amman, we will eliminate Transjordan, too, and then Syria will fall. If Egypt still dares to fight on, we shall bomb Port Said, Alexandria, and Cairo." " David Ben-Gurion, May 1948, to the General Staff. From Ben-Gurion, A Biography, by Michael Ben-Zohar, Delacorte, New York 1978.

"We must use terror, assassination, intimidation, land confiscation, and the cutting of all social services to rid the Galilee of its Arab population." Israel Koenig, "The Koenig Memorandum"

Rabin's description of the conquest of Lydda, after the completion of Plan Dalet. "We shall reduce the Arab population to a community of woodcutters and waiters" Uri Lubrani, PM Ben-Gurion's special adviser on Arab Affairs, 1960. From "The Arabs in Israel" by Sabri Jiryas.

"It is the duty of Israeli leaders to explain to public opinion, clearly and courageously, a certain number of facts that are forgotten with time. The first of these is that there is no Zionism, colonialization or Jewish State without the eviction of the Arabs and the expropriation of their lands." Yoram Bar Porath, Yediot Aahronot, of 14 July 1972.

"Spirit the penniless population across the frontier by denying it employment... Both the process of expropriation and the removal of the poor must be carried out discreetly and circumspectly." Theodore Herzl, founder of the World Zionist Organization, speaking of the Arabs of Palestine,Complete Diaries, June 12, 1895 entry.

"One million Arabs are not worth a Jewish fingernail." -- Rabbi Yaacov Perrin, Feb. 27, 1994 [Source: N.Y. Times, Feb. 28, 1994, p. 1]

"We Jews, we are the destroyers and will remain the destroyers. Nothing you can do will meet our demands and needs. We will forever destroy because we want a world of our own." (You Gentiles, by Jewish Author Maurice Samuels, p. 155).

Now you tell me what Mel Gibson said that is anywhere near as morally offensive!

I dare you!

Oscar Preview

MK: “Two years ago, the Academy came to the belated realization that holocaust movies and documentaries are getting a disproportionate amount of nominations just because of their subject matter. Moreover, many of these films are thematically repetitious, stereotypical and historically dubious. They don’t so much present historical entertainment as they do historical dogma. As such, they constitute propaganda. Of course, you can criticize any film genre, but since the U.S. movie industry is dominated by a hierarchy of Jews, many of whom support Israel, the Academy felt that holocaust movie genre was compromising the aesthetic and moral integrity of the awards. Therefore, it decided to create a special category for holocaust-themed propaganda—‘The Leni’ for short.”

The troubling politics of Avatar

Our elite Boomer ethos—that America is wrong, that machines are bad, that the Bad Dad who made us go to Vietnam is who America is—gives us cultural expressions like Avatar that sell massively in theaters and video-game consoles alike and inculcate a species of self-loathing.

If stories of heroes are the stuff that keeps cultures going, what we are devouring is another story of a hero who is heroic only in rejecting who we are.

This sort of thinking is distinctive to the post-colonialists of the West. Today’s active colonial powers will have none of that thinking.

SEX DIFFERENT IN 70S: POLANSKI WIFE

Film director Roman Polanski's wife has said she "understands perfectly" that women were shocked by the under-age sex case revived by her husband's arrest in Switzerland for possible extradition to the US.

But she said that in the 1970s, when the crime took place, society viewed sex and drugs in a different light.

Webmaster's Commentary:

You know, I was a horny young guy in the 1970s, and I recall vividly that even back then, sex with a 13-year old girl, drugged or not, was a tacky no-no!

I think that all those Hollywood celebrities who are clamoring to defend Polanski fail to understand that they are doing themselves and the entertainment industry grave harm by defending the indefensible. They are perpetuating the image of Hollywood celebrities as "I can do anything I want because I am rich and beautiful and powerful" perverts.

And that comes across as a bit hypocritical in an era where the RIAA and MPAA are portraying file copiers as immoral monsters.

Filmmaker Loach urges cultural boycott of Israel

The acclaimed British director and winner of Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, Ken Loach, has called for the boycott of Israeli movies at the international film festivals and cultural events.

“The massacres and state terrorism in Gaza make the showcasing of Israeli films in various sections of international film festivals unacceptable,” Loach was quoted as saying at a ceremony commemorating Israeli offensive on the besieged Gaza Strip by IRNA.

“Tel Aviv sponsors various international film festivals with the intention to open the way for Israeli films.”

Medvedev and Putin dance in New Year cartoon duet

Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev and Vladimir Putin, the country's prime minister, are the subject of a rare spoof in a New Year's cartoon that shows the leaders dancing across Red Square.

Mr Medvedev plays an accordion and turns pirouettes while Mr Putin performs traditional dances while thwacking a tambourine on his bottom.

It may only have been a cartoon, but a two-and-a-half-minute segment broadcast on state television on Friday gently mocking Russia's ruling pair was greeted with surprise by Russians used to stern-faced messages from their leaders.

Strip Gore of His Oscar

Defying the stereotype that Hollywood luminaries are tree-huggers and bleeding-heart liberals, conservative Academy members Roger Simon and Lionel Chetwynd are trying to rewrite history. Incensed that Al Gore won an Oscar for An Inconvenient Truth in wake of "climategate," they're urging the Academy to strip him of his award.

Webmaster's Commentary:

And here I thought I had already shattered that image of Hollywood types as tree-huggers and bleeding-heart liberals.

For the record, I am a Claire-hugger!

Internet piracy measures 'will cost consumers £500m'

The Digital Economy Bill, which requires internet service providers (ISPs) to disconnect users who are accused of illegal filesharing, will cost consumers up to £500 million, the Government has estimated.

The Bill, which is expected to become law next year, will add £25 a year to the cost of broadband, according to ISPs. The Government’s impact assessment document [available in PDF form], which examines the likely effects of the Bill, estimates that around 40,000 households will give up their broadband connections entirely to avoid the higher fees.

Avatar: a humanist call from Mt Hollywood (film review by Gilad Atzmon)

"Avatar may well be the biggest anti War film of all time. It stands against everything the West is identified with. It is against greed and capitalism, it is against interventionism, it is against colonialism and imperialism, it is against technological orientation, it is against America and Britain. It puts Wolfowitz, Blair and Bush on trial without even mentioning their names. It enlightens the true meaning of ethics as a dynamic judgmental process rather than   fixed moral guidelines (such as the Ten Commandments or the 1948 Human Right Declaration). It throws a very dark light on our murderous tendencies towards other people, their belief and rituals…"

"A serious man": the poetic side of self-hatred

Gilad Atzmon views Joel and Ethan Coen’s film “A serious man”  as “a cinematic allegory of Jewish cultural detachment from nature” and “a masterpiece that elaborates on the abnormalities of the Jewish tribal existence”. It “reflects on Jewish Diaspora life, Jewish segregation and the misery of operating within the kosher tribal template”.

"'A serious man' does not explicitly touch upon issues related to Israel, Zionism, occupation, organ harvesting or anything distinctly identified with the Jewish state... Yet, [it] portrays a clear message regarding Israel and Zionism, for Israel is the Jewish state and, in spite of the Zionist promise to erect a civilized nation, Israel functions as a Jewish ghetto and is subject to all the symptoms of abnormality conveyed by the Coens."

A Film review: A Serious Man, the Poetic Side of Self-Hatred by Gilad Atzmon

A Serious Man does not explicitly touch upon issues related to Israel, Zionism, occupation, organ harvesting or anything distinctly identified with the Jewish state. It instead reflects on Jewish Diaspora life, Jewish segregation and the misery of operating within the kosher tribal template. It is about Jewish alienation both natural and human. Yet, A Serious Man also portrays a clear message regarding Israel and Zionism, for Israel is the Jewish state and, in spite of the Zionist promise to erect a civilised nation, Israel functions as a Jewish ghetto and is subject to all the symptoms of abnormality conveyed by the Coens.

An Avatar Awakening

Nineteen years ago, Americans packed theaters for "Dances with Wolves" in which Native Americans became the heroes, but the story was set in a previous century and the message understated.

The Na'vi people of "Avatar" are very explicitly Iraqis facing "shock and awe," as well as Native Americans with bows and arrows on horseback. The "bad guys" in the battle scenes are U.S. mercenaries, essentially the U.S. military, and the movie allows us to see them, very much as they are right now in 177 real nations around the world, through the eyes of their victims.
